Thanks for the e-mail! I tried to respond but I kept getting an "Invalid domain" error when I would reply.[?][?][?] Anyway, it's been a busy summer between getting my oldest daughter ready to move to Birmingham, re-sodding my parents' yard and a lot of summer activities with the church. We're heading to Arkansas next week to visit some of my wife's relatives.
I haven't done any work on the layour since May. I hope to get back with it after Labor Day.

which terminals did you hook the wires up to? The #2 on the lockon should be connected to the letter F or C on the R. And the #1 on the lockon should go to the B post on the R.

Looks like our monsoon season has finally passed down here in Lower Alabama. It's been about four days since our last thunderstorm.
My new Snapper riding mower arrived this AM. Just got finished cutting the yard - love the Honda engine - lots of torque to cut through some of the tall and thick grass in the back yard.

I'll be off to Arkansas to visit some of my wife's family next week. Does anyone know of any train stores in the Little Rock area?

Looks the same down here in .E. GA, no rain for several days in the Athens area, hot 90 yesterday, hotter today. The wife's veggie garden is taking a beating, I gave it a good soaking last night hopefully not too late. At least I went a week and a half with out cutting grass, cut it yesterday after getting home from work, hope it doesn't burn.

Ran trains last night, glad the AC in the train room works well. Time to head for work, have a good day all.

Pigseye, you have real winter but better summers. Going to be hot here today too. Got to mow too. Twice a week. No rain but chance tomorrow PM and maybe off and on through weekend. That means I need to hit the pond this PM. Got some good looking grapes this year. Father-in-law has several acres of blueberries and they are hanging. Another day with no rain in sight and temps. in the 90's. The Athens, GA area is 13" below norm for rain this year and July should be the second wettest month of the year, no wonder the garden is suffering.

Today's one of my off days from work so I'll have some time to work on another detail for the layout. I've been building a stairway with landings to get from the trailer park down to the river, as protypical for me I've probably over designed the structure. Can't have those little people suing me for a collapse.

Spent better part of yesterday walking on an old horse trail through Manassas battlefield. 90 deg +++ temps and not a soul in sight.

I was trying to put myself in the frame of mind of a Civil War soldier, to help along my screenplay, which is doing fabulous thus far and is in the research stage.

After walking for about 6 hours, I was covered with sweat and bug bites, had a bruised baby toe and some bad wedgies. But a CW soldier would have been carrying about 40 pounds of stuff and would have been shot at and probably very hungry and thirsty. So, I guess I really cannot ever experience what they went thru unless I don't eat for a few days and put on a deer suit and tramp around the countryside during deer hunting season.

During my jaunt yesterday, I did have a small reprieve from the heat, bathing in a shallow stream. When I was finished I climbed to the top of a small ridge where the forest gave way to an open field with several cannon and large stone monuments to some New York battalions. I read them and they indicated that the ridge I'd just climbed had been a major battle for one of the NY battalions, which was surprised by the bulk of a confederate division coming over the ridge. The unit lost 2/3, said to be the unit most decimated during the entire war. A Confederate soldier afterwards remarked that the ridge looked like a field of bluebonnets in Texas, so thick were the corpses.

It was a humbling experience and made me realize how little I really am in the grand scheme of things.

Thanks David for the excellent description of yesterday's adventure. It's always fun to hear first person experiences and you have a gift of painting a picture with words. That's an area we've never visitied and hopefully someday we will be able to. There's so many times I'd just like to liquidate everything and live in a small motor home and travel with no schedule or deadlines. Probably not as romantic as I imagine but I'd sure like to try.

Jon, you are right. So much to see in this country and most never see even a small portion of it. David does a great job of writing. Well, one chore to do and then off to the pond to catch a few. Went for an hour and 1/2 late yesterday and caught 3. Suppose to be hot and then sky crack this evening. Tom, a buddy [retired railroad cop] in Chicago had a bad storm last night. He's got to clean up yard this AM. Buckeye, got the call to deffinately work the Bass Masters Classic next week. Get to sit and talk fishing. Tough job. God bless all.

Those storms were south of us. It looked really black down there as I headed over a rise on my way home. Hope it doesn't rain today. I'm taking my 13 year old daughter to a Cubs baseball game. We drive down there - park a few El stops away - and take the train to Wrigley. I bought these tickets ages ago - I figure to spend a fortune on 2 hot dogs and some pops...don't particularly know what we'll chat about - but I'm looking forward to spending the time together.

name for your DAD. [:D] [:D] Now I need to teach you how to make sweet ice tea* and eat pork bar-be-que eastern NC style [chopped and not pulled with vinegar base sauce]. [;)]


* put almost one half of a gallon of hot water [from tap] in a pitcher. Put in one and one half cups of sugar [I use Splender instead] and stir with wooden spoon. If glass pitcher, leave wooden spoon in pitcher to prevent cracking of pictcher. Boil water in small pot and put in two family size teas bags. Boil for 1 and one half minutes. Pour hot tea into pitcher. Squeeze out tea bags with spoon and pour in pitcher. Stir good. Pour over full glass of ice cubes and add some lemon. Note: some southerners would put two cups of sugar. Some say it is suppose to be sweet enough to make your teeth hurt. Little too sweet for me.

It is a great looking Blue Clear Sky in NE Ohio. Its been a while since I have been able to say that. The temp is a very pleasant 72 deg with a light breeze. All you southern boy can eat your hart out.

Dang, it's not even 70 today. What a switch from a few days ago. Any day I don't have to run the air conditioning is fine, but I think we'll pay for this in the winter. I like that rocker on the porch
