great buildings what material did you use?how much room did it take for the town scene it looks like you have quite a lot happening without being over powered are there any operating accessories in the scene?i hope you don`t mind the questions,i`am trying to figure out what i want to do,my theme will be logging along with a dirty old mountain town built by the company that does the logging.i had ho most of my life and want to get back in 3 rail o scale so will strike a happy medium on the weathering.don`t mind if you have any suggestions,chief eagles was very helpful on the dcs hook up ,etc.thanks roy p.s really enjoy this forum

In my scratch building I use a number of different materials. The church is 1/4" foam core poster board covered with "sandstone" styrene, windows left over from a kitbashed IHC engine house I needed to shorten, door scratch built, roof styrene shingles over 1/4" plywood, steeple leftovers from an IHC victorian house with shingle over the paper used to separate xray plates (wife's a tech.). If I remember correctly the bank is an Ameritown, its moved from my first layout so I don't remember the details. I've also used a lot of DPM panels for making buildings. The town is 2 streets wide and about 4' long, I'll show some details with the next set of photos in a week or two.

For operating accessories I have my original milk car, cattle car and coal loader. My theme is coal as y'all see when I take the next set of photos. As I post I'll give a brief discription of building materials if your interested.

I can’t believe the great weather we are having for our vacation. It’s another Blue Clear Sky morning in NE Ohio, temp 65 and going up to 81 today.

And the newsman said we had an earth quack at 12:03am today. [:O] It was centered about 12 miles east of hear. 3.3 mag. – I sleep thru it. [|)] I think thunder makes more nose. [B)]

And we didn’t win the Maga Million so we better plan on returning to work next week.

I was thinking of you last night as there were 500 antique tractors at our county fairgrounds last night and many of them were John Deer. Every year the major radio station in Iowa sponsor's the "Great Tractor Ride", it's a 3 day ride of about 50-60 miles per day. My wife was a "farmer's daughter" and everybody on my parents side were farmers except for my dad. It was great fun to talk with the drivers last night and hear their stories, they truely have a love of the land and their equipment. Nearly every tractor has been restored and they are beautfiul. Fun to hear the older John Deers and that single putt-putt. It's probably another hobby I could get hooked on............

All our neighbors had John Deeres and some big ones. Dad was a Farmall/International man. I got my first John Deere at age 6. Won the peddle tractor at John Deere Days [had family John Deere movie and drawings in local town]. Was hooked from then on. Dad would not give in [he had a friend that owned IH dealership]. Still have it. Going to repaint and decal it. Was made of real "cast" and not tin plate nor plastic. Has a metal flapper that hits the cogs on the chaindrive to make it "putt putt". [:D]

I'm a garage sale addict myself and am always buying lots of junk at them. Garage sales can be a good place to find things that you can use on your layout. I often find things by rumaging through boxes of toys at garge sales that are just perfect for use on my layout. As for actual trains, I haven't found any this year yet, but I have in the past. Generally, when you do find things they're dirt cheap. Usually what you find are HO trains as opposed to Lionel, Marx, etc. which I have never seen at a garage sale. I once found a Tyco HO set with a Southern 0-6-0 for $3. Another time I got a mixed lot of HO trains with 2 engines and 9 cars for only $10. I've also found other HO items as well as newer plastic battery powered train sets. My best garage sale find ever was two Haji Japanese train sets from the early 1970's for $2. I'm very interested in tinplate Japanese toy trains and have a large collection of them and this is just the sort of thing I'm interested in. The sets have plastic engines and tenders with tinplate rolling stock. There was the original box for one set and everything was in mint condition. So, to answer your question, yes, garage sales are much cheaper than ebay, but it isn't very often that you do find trains at garage sales and the chances of finding something really great are slim. But still keep on checking them-you never know what you'll find!

Good Morning all,
Once again, the Lord has blessed us with another Blue Clear Sky morning and the weatherman says it will last all day, temp 68 and going to 81, how great is that for a vacation day.

Yesterday made a trip to our local MTH discount dealer (about 45 miles away) and pick up two 19th century box cars (see my review) and placed an order for a C & O Hudson, which is due in this month.[tup]

Gee, I thought that NC was the place for Northerner to go to get warm in the winter and SC, well you know.[:-,]
