Morning gang. Well noon almost. [second time typing, it ate the first post ????? [:(!]] Went to Sunday School. Hope all the gang down in the path of Dennis comes out OK. Mother dove and one of her little ones is sitting out the back door. She hatched it in the rose and calamitous arbor. Wife took some pictures and I will post later. Been watching the movie Gyttesburg on TV. The D*~# Yankees think they won the war. I'll show you. Going to go get a glass of sweet ice tea. Afternoon everyone,

It's another beautiful day. Just got back from swimming at the local rec center.

I'm just going to sit around and do nothing but enjoy the weather today.

Have a good day[:)]

Thanks for the concern John, just haven't had anything to say today. The weather here is completely overcast today and humid. All the bad weather has been in Atlanta and to the west. They were hit again Friday night with wind and heavy rain from the band that broke off and headed north early. Hope Dr. John is ready, Dennis should be ashore by now, haven't seen a report since noon. A buddy of mine lives in Starksville, Miss. which looks right in the path for Monday afternoon, hope he fairs well.

Our prayers are out to those in Dennis's path.

We're doing pretty well thus far through Dennis. Lights have flickered a couple of times but so far we still have power. LOTS of rain and pretty strong wind, probably 30 mph right now. Stronger stuff should arrive between 6 and 7 pm local time.

My father in law and I managed to get the generator going, so we have that as a back-up. Phones were down about half an hour but are back for now. So far, cable (and modem) are doing fine.

That's all for now.

Hang in there, Dr. John! Wish I had some of your rain - spent today split between running a baseball team party at the beach and running a birthday party of 3 yr. olds at the local McDonald's (bad scheduling). I'm tired!

Evening all.... Dr. John, I know the weather down your way is bad. Here in Anniston we've got high winds [ some more than 50 MPH ] and a lot of rain, and some trees are down. The worst here is yet to come. Be safe, maybe this thing will be out of here soon.
Everyone have a great evening.

Beautiful day here in Jamestown area. We went to Bemus Point today and listened to a great concert on Chautauqua lake. It's only about 5 minutes from home. It's in the small town of Bemus Point which for 2 months a year fills with tourists. My wife grew up there and we ran into a lot of people we knew.

Hey Buckeye, I was looking forward to hearing from you. How did you lose that cell phone in the lake? Are you coming back this way this summer?

I hope everyone down south is doing ok with the weather. I see it's down to a tropical storm already. Hopefully it won't do to much damage or injury.

Hope you all had a good weekend.

Dr. John, hope things hold OK for you and my buddy that lives in West Blocton. Picked 5 1/2 gallon buckets full of tomatoes and did not pick them close so more tomorrow AM. Off to Kerr Lake tomorrow PM and not back until Tuesday PM. I'll try not to throw my cell phone in the lake. [;)] I have mine insured just in case. The following picture is for Tom.

This is not the largest but the best. The larger ones [really big variety] have big cores. This one became tomato sandwiches shortly after the picture. One slice was as large as a slice of bread. Good night and God Bless all.

Morning gang,
It's going to be a warm one here today. Of course you southerners won't think so but it is warm for us. Going to get to almost 90 and when you do not have air-conditioning that is a little warm. The last time it was this warm around here was in 1999 which is why we don't bother with air-conditioning. I hope Dennis was not too mean to those of you in that part of the country. We could use a little of that rain up here, but it does not look like we will get any. Everything is pretty brown around here. Well, have a good one guys.

Wow, Chief, now that's a tomato! Spent last evening in the cool of the basement doing some MoW work - some engines were 'detaching' themselves from their tenders on a particularly bad part of the RoW that had settled - as the engine went over the bump, it lifted the coupler just enough to come off, so I was experimenting with stabilizing it with some cut-down wooden coffee stirrers. Going to the U.P. of Michigan at the end of the month to a church camp - hope it's not that hot, IronHoarse.

Good Morning,

What a way to start off the week but it's over and done with. I just got back from the regular dentist and had one filling completed, not bad considering that's only the third one in 60 years. It all started in May when I had my regular check up with a new Dr. (who I really like)........ long story short........ 5 visits betweeen the regular Dr. and the Periodontist. All is well but what a process of cleaning and deep cleaning, the really good news though is that I will never need dentures and teeth are fairly good. The even better news is, thanks to dental insurance, it hasn't cut into the train budget[:D]

This week I will begin wiring the AIU to the switches and convince the boss that I have to rip up some sidings so I can add power switches to those sidings so I can kill them when not in use. She ballasted those sidings one night when I was gone and I didn't have the heart (at that time) to tell her what had happened. I'm looking forward to getting these projects completed and get going on the skirting, I'm going to put quarter around the edge of the table and have my oldest son, the wood worker, do a fancy bevel cut with his router.

Stay cool everyone.

Jon

Good morning, everyone.

Just got back in from cleaning up the yard. Good news - no trees lost and no house damage, just small limbs and twigs, etc. Got that done. Went ahead and took down a pine tree that looked "iffy" and a few scrubby trees. Can't tell a storm came through now. Only lost power for 90 minutes last night, so did not bother with the generator. We came through very well.

Chief, that is some tomato! Wish I could grow them that big.

Dr John,

Glad to hear it wasn't too bad for you guys. Sounds like the kind of damage we get from heavy spring snow storms.

Glad all is well.

Good evening everyone! Now it was my turn to say, there goes an engine, as we had to get the air cond. repaired today. New motor & all, but it's nice & cool here now. Glad the boys down South came thru OK, & now Dr. John, sounds like you got the generator going for a future emergency. Glad Roy & Buckeye are back ,too! Last summer I was talking to a friend on his boat & thought he hung up on me, but his hands were a little wet & the cell ph. is in Lake Erie, now! I guess that is a pretty common thing now a days. Thanks, John

Tom,
Yes, the cell phone hit the bottom of Lake Chautauqua. I was getting the boat ready to take the kids tubing down the lake and was taking the cover off of the boat. Somehow it popped out of my back pocket, unclipped itself and jumped into about 5 feet of water. And yes, I dove in after it and retrieved it. (Red Cross Lifesaving lessons 41 plus years ago still come in handy, but I don't go in for anybody that lives in the swamps with gators and such. Needless to say if the Chief fell overboard in NC, he would be bait. )[}:)]

We thought we would be back in July to Chautauqu, but my wife's high school reunion and family reunion have filled up July already. I sent you an email with the next date we should be in NY and this time I want to stop and see Spankybird so my wife can see his trains especially the circus tent.

You forgot to tell everyone that Bemus Point is the Key West of Western New York, or so I have been told. [:D] Have you ever seen the free movie on the floating screen? We saw the Budweiser Clydsdales there last year. [8D]

What did you think of the fish kill? I have never seen so many dead fish. They did a great job cleaning up the mess before the 4th of July. Speaking of the 4th, the red flares around the lake are awsome.

The church services at Chautauqua were again excellent this year. The best part about the institute is figuring out how to get in free. I swear you could wave a blank 3x5 card at those guys at the gates and you could get in.

Buckeye,

I look forward to your next trip here. We can meet in Bemus for some kind of refreshment....

The fish kill was interesting in that it only hit the adult carp and nothing else. Some of them were in the 40 lb range. They say it could have been something as simple as someone emptying their aquarium in the lake to cause it.

I would recommend seeing the flares around the lake to anyone who can get here on the 4th. I figure about 35 miles of coastline with almost every yard covered by 30 minute flares all lit about the same time. It is a beautiful sight.

We have not been to the movies on the lake yet but we just talked about that yesterday as we watched the concert from the floating stage. We definitely have to get together when you are here next time.

Chautauqua is interesting. I don't know how to describe it here to those who don't know about it. I do some work for the religion dept there in the summer so the they give me a couple of gate tickets. But you're right, there are ways to get in.

Have a good evening all.

The flares should be done on every shoreline in America on the fourth. It is so cool! Do you know how it started?

Good Morning All from NE Ohio

where the temp is 78 deg at 6:00am with mostly overcast skies and a high in the mid 90’s. Isn’t Summer great!!!

Buckeye – great to see your back. Let me know when your next trip north is. We will be looking forward to you and Mrs. Buckeye stopping by.

This morning on the way across town I saw the Amtrak going west. It must have been about 2 hours late for me to see it. It usually goes thru Cleveland about 4:30 am. I couldn’t get a pick of it, as I was on the interstate doing 65mph at the time.

Morning all, spitting a bit of welcome rain here. Last evening, finally stopped trying to fix track and just fastened the tender to the engine with a twisty-tie - works fine. I'm motivated to make everything shipshape by a bunch of visitors coming to a cookout this weekend.

Good afternoon everyone. Got called out at 5 this morning for a derailment in Ashtabula, which may have delayed Amtrack a bit, though it wasn't obstructing 1 or 2 main. They may have got nervous as it was on 4 main. Not many having coffee today, but it sure was a hot one! Twister ties are very usefull sometimes! We need rain! Thanks, John

OK, I've been hiding from the forum for a while on match.com. Just popped in here to tell you that about 5 minutes ago I sent an email to a lady who said she is looking for someone who is "passionate about his hobby."

Hmmmmm. Can you guess where I can go from there!

I may get going on a cool toy train layout idea soon and post pictures. It's a pretty far-out idea, but I want to make it a surprise so I'll perhaps start building this weekend again.
