Now that I have the hurricane supplies laid in, time to gas up the vehicles and fill up the jerry cans for the generator. Hope we won't need it. Looks like Dennis is tracking a bit more eastward toward the central panhandle of Florida. Not to wish ill on those folks but Pensacola needs a break. They haven't finished cleaning up from Ivan.

In the meantime life goes on. At least gasoline prices haven't jumped up here (yet.) Father in law is coming up from Mobile after boarding up his house. We're trying to get him to move up here. Maybe this storm will give him a nudge.

Good afternoon, everyone!

Awful what happened in London. The victims and their loved ones will definetly be in my thoughts and prayers.

I just got an e-mail regarding the train show planned in Melville on August 6. I was planning on exhibiting at it. Unfortunately, it has been cancelled due to them having trouble finding enough exhibitors. It seems that with centennial celebrations going on all over the province this summer that many people are too busy. They say that they plan on having a show next summer, though. However, this winter there will be the Regina train show. Since I'm going to university and have an apartment in the city, I plan on exhibiting there this year.

Good evening all,
Nice day here, 79 for a high and very low humidity. Can't beat that. Still we need some rain, the weather report says maybe Monday, but I have heard that before. The lady across the street has her daughter and two grandchildren visiting. This afternoon they came down to see the train run. I think the mother enjoyed it more than the two little kids. Probably because the kids are a little shy. It is always fun to have kids come and see the trains.

Roger,

Great photos. Looks very real.

Sorry haven't checked in too much as I'm on the internet dating circuit trying to get a bite or even just a nibble. Rain much welcomed here. Nice day in DC & tomorrow promises the same.

We think our train electronics are expensive. AC compressor stopped working. One capacitor (is pretty big) was $123.00. Needed to get it fixed as next week it is supposed to be HOT here again.

Gas is as high as $2.39 a gallon. Can't afford to go anywere, can't afford to stay home.

I did it!!!!!!!![:D] The ceiling exhaust fan is installed in the train room and switch in the wall. Works great. Now to install two outlets in the wall [one 110 and one 220 with twist receptical]. Then painting will begin. Painting done and benchwork will begin. [:D]

Evening fellas

Can't belive its Friday already. Were did my vacation go? At least I'm still off Monday because of the holiday(4th).

Greg- I feel your pain, the compressor in my AC locked up on Monday morning(3:00AM). It was a hot one. The AC is only a month old. My Brother the AC guy replaced it today. So lets hope this one will last. Kind of reminded me of some of our trains, you know run for awhile then kaput.
I wanted to go to the tracks and get some photo's but my daughter took the digital camera to myrtle beach. Oh well maybe next vacation in August.

I took my K-Line A-5 over my buddys house last night to show him how it operates with the EOB drop in board. It ran great. Today a guy from work stopped over and when I showed him the trains the A-5 acted all goofy, kind of like my AC. Anyhow they're both running fine now.

Have a good weekend everyone.

Good Morning All from NE Ohio

where the temp is 69 and going to 82 with Blue Clear Sky’s

Things look great here on the North Coast. Should be a great day for the local Air Show. You can buy a ride on a B-17 for $400.00 or on a SNJ-4 for $275.00 each.

Never fear Roger, we are here. It’s Saturday, so we slept in a little. During the week I am at the office at 6:30am.

PE Tim – just about.

GregM – we will know when Chief really picks up a hammer, we will have a break in the Heat.

Pick of the Day

Tom - Is the bridge a scratch built, or kit? It looks like siimlar to one I built when I started my current layout. I used modified plans from one of the mags. and used rough cut pine and bass wood with pieces of coat hanger for the rods.

Roger – I bought it already assembled. It was at a train show several years ago (like 8 years). I believe it was custom built. The guys making them where handicap. Heck I could do as good as they did.

Morning. Tom, I had to click on the picture before I saw the clothes on one. [;)] Good job. Better watch out Tom, I'm on a roll. Debating on something. If I go into the walkin closet for more track and longer second level grade, I may have to go with a low table for the lower level. This is due to the real steep roof [Cape Cod] and the width of the first closet [see, you walk thru a closet to get to the attic closet which is wider and long]. This will not bother me as long as I can get some of the wife's plastic bens under it. I had my old layout lower level real low as I could reach across the wide table. Will do some measuring today. Got to mow grass [it RAINED] for neighbor and me. Think the heat will be up today. Only way I got into the big attic yesterday was cloudy and high was 82 until middle of the afternoon. Then it got hot up there!!! Happy railroading and God bless all.

Morning all. A beautiful day here - I'm not used to saying that so often - not a hint of rain... and not a big project in sight. Sounds like everyone is enjoying the summer - hope Dennis doesn't bother anyone too badly. Every day our A/C works is a blessing. It's due to blow anytime now - the last time it stopped working - nobody could find the leak - they were musing about replacing everything in order - condensors, coils, compressor - the dollar signs were spinning like the reels on a slot machine. Avoided it so far. $2.39 a gallon for gas is cheap - it went from $2.19 last week to $2.60 for regular. What a con job - thank goodness we don't have a large-engined vehicle... I used to get half a tank a year ago for $6-7; now it's doubled - and to fill the van, oh, I don't want to go there - I don't even look at the pump anymore.

Roger, let me join the chorus of kudos for those farm pictures - I like the depth of the green stuff - how did you make it? Looks like the soybeans right down the street.

Chief, great job on the ceiling fan. Frankly, I'm a bit scared of working with serious electricity on the house. I think going a bit lower on the layout in the closet in exchange for the extra run is a great exchange - especially if you're going to try to fit those Rubbermaid bins under it - you won't be going too low to hurt your back.

Spankybird, great shots - it's not a new day without the picture of the day. Glad those trespassers on the bridge seem to be dressed.

Doug - I cut a scree, templet, out of poster board and used a thinned mix of wall compound to put in the rows/mounds. After dried and painted I ran a bead of white glue along the top of the rows and sprinkled on Woodlands grass, when dry vacuumed up the excess and sprayed with wet water and diluted white glue. The last, and most tedious, was again using a bead of glue and glueing on small chunks of coarse foliage piece by piece using tweezers. When dry again sprayed with wet water and diluted white glue.

If you want different colors just use different color foliage and grass. Was time consuming but not hard if in an easy to reach spot.

You guys [yuz giz for the Yanks] are too meticulous. I hope the wife will do that. I like to get track down and run the trains. Scenery is not my thing.

Forget it, the numbers just jumped.

Roger, it looks just grand - and to think I've been gluing green pipe cleaners I attacked with a scissors to look uneven to a square I cut out of a brown paper bag...

Hot and humid in central Alabma today. Calm before the storm I suppose. We are about as ready as we can be. Only bad thing is can't get old generator to start. Bought it in 1982 and it has served well but can't get parts anymore (at least not locally). Spent the morning tinkering with it but no luck. Oh well, maybe we'll be lucky and won't lose power this time.

After this storm passes I am going to put an AC unit down in my shop. I decided that if I'm going to build a layout in it, I might as well be able to enjoy it year round, not just fall thorugh early spring.

If you don't hear from me for a while after Sunday night, it means either my power is out or cable modem is down (or both).

Dr. John - when I built my train room I put in a motel type through the wall heat pump, it does a great job. If your lucky you may find a motel/hotel going under and get a used one.

Took wife and her friend to Dresden Ohio today. Dresden is the location of the Longaberger basket factory. Another expensive hobby in this household. Lucked out, found gas for $2.13 a gallon on way back.

Zwbob,

Domicile is couple miles east of Akron/Canton airport.

Dr. John, good luck. Got my generator wired so I can plug in under the shed or the lawn mower garage. Fire her up and feed back to the house [throw the main breaker]. Ran for three days and a half during the last ice storm. Natural gas heat and water heater. Generator will carry the air handler. During hurricanes, no A/C as not that strong. Runs everything else though. Keep us posted so we will know how it is going. God bless.

Hello All: Getting ready for the trip west. Spring cleaned the trailer, tested the gas appliances for safety, fridge works, greased the bearings everything is A-okay. I think I am going to pick up a N scale Kato kit to run in the trailer or on the picnic table. Kind of hard to run O in a 27' trailer( Imagine the smoke). Leaving on Thurs. crossing the border into Mich. to Wis. Minn. ND. Montana up to Alberta, Staying in Banff for 5 days, up to Edmonton, Head back through Sask. Manitoba to N. Ontario. Hope to stay in touch from the trailer parks as most have on-line services. Dr. John : Hope All goes well on the storm front, thoughts are with you. Bought the boy a digital Nikon 7.2 (He thinks it's his) hope to shoot the mountain & prairie trains & post when I get back. If it makes you feel better gas is 95.6 cents a litre in Ontario for reg. Sounds like the Chief might have a layout before Christmas (What Year[8D]). Kind Regards to All Steve

Good Morning All from NE Ohio

where the temp is 71 and going to 88 with Blue Clear Sky’s

It hard to believe that we have such a great looking sky when looking at the news and watching the Gulf Coast.

Scratch – you better hold onto your hats.

Redhawk – sounds like a great trip. You should drop Jerrylovestrains. He lives in Wes.

GregM – See how they have converted you. You now think that $2.13 is a good buy.
