Hi everyone,

I just got back from a week of camp with 20 High School students. They are 20 youth from all over western NY. Their job is to plan this next year's youth activities for the U. Methodist Church in WNY. They plan all the youth gatherings ( 2 of them at about 600 youth each), some training events, plus a few other things. We got a lot of work accomplished plus had a great time playing Ultimate and frisbee golf. It's a lot of fun being with wonderful youth. The weather was very hot and humid. I am looking forward to the cool down tomorrow. Three of our kids will be home later this evening for the long weekend and we are looking forward to that!

I hope you all have a wonderful and safe holiday weekend.

Dave, Set up one of those runs like they use for the Greyhound races, not the bus the dog, just let her run laps around the backyard. Just barkin' like [censored]. [:D]

Hello All: It's been a while since I have posted, I have been enjoying the new job, do my 8 a day & 4 on Friday's, Life is good. It has been outright stinking HOT for the last few week's, the morning radio guy say's it's not fit for Man or Beast ( Our boss say's it's okay for construction worker's). Been reading the post's from the last month LOL a lot. Glad to see everyone is doing well. Today is Canada's 138th Birthday, been enjoying the Day off with celebrations & festival's across the country, The night Sky is lit with firework's from all over. Came across a real find from the fifties, a nice Lionel set in boxes & paperwork, quite a story behind it, will tell you about it tomorrow. All be well & Kind Regards Steve

Steve, glad to see you posting again. We set a record high today. Right at 100. Did not seem that hot but was humid. Cooler for the weekend and holiday. Finished "redoing" the GP 7 that is now a GP9 [added brake blisters]. It is now a NS. Off to bed. God bless all.

Cool and sunny today again. It only hit 80 yesterday - got into the 50s last night - supposed to hot up again today- going to try the local carnival / gala by the lake later - I'm not a big fan of overpriced rides and the crowds, but I know the kids will love it.

Jon, that man who walked to Chicago from Ariz. to support diabetes research showed up at Wrigley yesterday to get a big hug from Ron Santo. Working with Santo's son, he raised about $250K...

Wow, a late night, Chief. Show us a picture of your redone GP. Speaking of engines, the UP has parked quite the motive power in town this weekend - a huge ballast train, SD-40 and AC units...

Bob - If you are going to the Headlands, then you should stop by for a visit. If you are going to Berea, stop at the Station Resturant for lunch or dinner. It's an old NCY train station, right on the tracks.

Thanks for all the suggestions about BB and offers for help. Maybe I can run a 3-rail track thru the back yard with a suped-up 4-4-0 hauling a mechanical bunny back and forth. I suppose that's what they do at greyhound races.

Jon's wooded area in Iowa sounds like a nice plan. Maybe instead of completing the whole house, just put a roof over the basement and the train room is ready. After all, what are other rooms in the house, but wasted space.

I'm busy today pulling my layout apart and beginning to pack up for an eventual move to somewhere's. The Iowa offer is rather tempting and I still may consider it and other places but I've also got a lot of job satisfaction at work right now. And, still might hear back again from the Kalmbach folks, although I'm not expecting much there as although I can do the journalistic bit pretty well, there are some real train brains that might also fill the bill rather nicely.

Sorry to be rambling. Had a nice thunderstorm here last night. really needed the rain. Dr. John, that is fortunate that your hound is OK after the snake bite. Tho snakes have been known to come as far as my street, there's likely a bigger chance of her getting bit in the woods.

Morning all. David, seriously, one beagle chasing a rabbit is not a noise violation. BB is moving and not sitting in one place howling. Bet you have a SPCA nut or PETA persons and they think that BB is going to kill the rabbit. Build a garden RR and have a loud shistle on the engine. Now that would get them going. Maybe a "sit down" with them would get better relationships. If that does not work, explain that you have a Rebel friend who will bring the troops nawth and make them drink sweet ice tea and eat grits. [the Saprano approach] Idea, remember when Tony had these guys with big speakers go out on a boat and play loud music at the guy's house until he gave in and returned Tony's deposit. I have a tape of hounds running foxes and etc. I will send it to you and you can play it with loud stereo speakers on your deck or patio. [}:)] Well, grass is to mow and things to do. Might get more showers today [hope so]. Got to get ready for the big Fourth party we have here each year. Lots of folks coming for cookout. Watch fireworks over the fence that evening. Have a good one and God bless all.

Good morning everyone ! Went to races last night, great, but very loud! Picked up another Conrail eng. on the way. An Atlas this time, so I've been getting the MTH one lashed up with the new one. Seems to be working well as they both have TMCC & Railsounds. All have a great weekend!! Thanks, John

Here it is. Started with this shell. Removed the paint.

Finished job with frame stripes too. Added brake blisters to make it GP9. [Used wife's new camera. Need to reduce the pixels too strong and takes a long time to download. Real sharp though]

Shot it with Dullcote. Don't like my engines and rolling stock shinny. Real trains are not shinny.

Great job Chief!

With the temp. 90+ this afternoon I went out to the train room, turned the temp. down on the AC and watched the trains go around for an hour, or so. Too bad I didn't have a good cigar to add to the smoke cloud.

Almost time to go turn on the TV and watch NASCAR for the rest of the evening. Have a good evening all.

Chief, That turned out great, even if you did desicrate a piece of B&O beauty. [;)]
I think what Dave needs has been right here in the forum for a couple of days now. A nice little "G" scale live steamer with a REAL good(loud) steam whistle. Talk about a wake up call. [:-,] [*^_^*] [;)] [:-^]

Got a nice rain today. It was very much needed.

Morning,

I may have found a couple of new comers to the hobby, my step son and his son. They are here for the weekend and enjoyed the train quite a bit yesterday. After we played with the train my grandson saw a K-line catalog that I have and wanted to look at it. I told him that he could have it for keeps. He quickly started going through it and found a train that he wants very much, the Trackside Construction Set. He has been begging his dad to get him that train and another one that is in the catalog but I am not sure which one. He is only 5 years old and likes to play with legos. He has constructed a train engine with them. His dad spent about an hour going through the catalog too. I think a train may be in the works for Christmas.

Question: is Atlas n/s track designed for outdoors. I believe I heard that it is but just want to confirm this. Also, are the attached switch motors OK for outdoors as well? I've got some ideas and plans for an outdoor pike, built atop a lawncare storage shed.

Chief: That's super. What decals did you use. Also, how did you add the blister, strip the paint and paint it.? Forgive me if you described it in a post or further back. That's really nice.

David, sometime ago I ordered several NS diesel decal sets from Mircoscale. I got this unit from OGR Buy and Sale for a steal [MPC with dual can motors in trucks and matching caboose, never run in the box]. Well, since it had a B&O shell [who wants a B&O? [;)]], I started switching it to NS. Removed the horns, clear windows and number boards. Used Polly S Easy-Lift-Off, decal and paint remover. Lifted most of the paint by wiping with a clean rag after application. Washed the shell in soapy dish washing detergent. Rubbed the shell with OO steel wool to get all residue and any paint striping, numbers and etc. left. Washed again. Shot it with Testors black gloss [very close to NS black, decal sheet gave a paint number which comes up CSX black. I used it on the S2 switcher I re-painted and decaled. Black is exactly the same as this]. You want a very glossy shell [if not glossy enough, shoot with Testors Glosscote]. Applied decals and melted them in with Salvaset decal solvant. I appled a coat on one side and let it dry. Then the other side. I applied about 8 coats to insure that the decal "sank" into the door seams, louvers and etc. Once I was satisfied with the decals, I washed off any decal solvant with clear cool water and dried. Then I shot it with Testors Glosscote to seal the decals. This makes them look like new Lionel. I do not like my re-done engines and rolling stock looking like new toy trains. I then shot it with a light coat of Testors Dullcote. Ready to roll.

PS: The blister is a Lionel part I had left from the 80's. Don't know if you cn still get them.

Very nice job Chief, Thanks for sharing........Low this morning 42 headed for a high of 78 with clear blue skies. A perfect 4th weekend.
Unloaded 4 tons of hay and loaded it into the hay loft yesterday. Moved tools and toolboxes from old truck to new one. Today , change oil and hyd. fluid in tractor, what a messy job...yuck!!!!! Also need to mow and weed eat. Have found some time to run trains , and 3 more Lionelville buildings arrived Friday. Stocking up on scenery to put on layout this winter. Looking at K Line Allegheny steamer on ebay, looks interesting....Tim

Hope you enjoyed a good 3rd of July. After a long day at church helping to produce the service, and a nap, we went to a friend's cook-out and now, after putting the baby to bed, I'll walk a block with the older kids to watch the town's fireworks over the lake. The highlight of the day is examining the friend's layout during the cook-out - he built a layout in his dining room - filled the space except for a little hole in the middle where he can stand. Nicely done too. He ran a Lackawana Trainmaster and Golden Rocket trainset with TMCC.

Hello All: Beautiful Day up here, Mid to high 70's. Anyone catch the Live 8 concert yesterday ? Neil Young closed out the Canadian Concert, Glad to see him doing well since his illness April 1st. I picked up quite a find last week, 1688E Loco, 2689T tender, 2679Baby Ruth yellow & blue roof & orange doors, 2680 Sunoco 3 Dome grey tank, 2682 caboose Red Lionel Lines, WX Transformer In boxes. The set is in excellent condition the boxes are rough. Here's the real treasure, in the bottom of the carton was an envelope from Lionel in New York with the Red happy dude saying "ALL ABOARD". In the envelope were three catalogues Plans & Blueprints for Lionel Model Railroaders ( Mint Condition) , Candid Camera Shots Lionel Trains in Action (Mint Condition), both from 1946. Finally Lionel Track Layouts Rough to okay from 1937. This set was purchased for a disabled young Courageous Veteran in 1946 He passed on soon after. His Mother passed on a few years back & had kept her Son's possession's all these years. I happened to be in the right place at the right time & assured the family the set was going to a good home. By the way the thing run's like a well oiled clock. All have a great week Kind Reagards Steve
