Chief, wonder how much you save on all that vehicle stuff you do yourself.
Roy, I tried to pick up that PM, but the site won't give access tonight. I will try again later.
Was a good day, finished way early, got to have lunch with the director of the movies that we make, and had a good afternoon with the kids and bride. Wife made some good 'ol southern style ribs tonight. YUM! Had that with sweet taters and some greens and sweet corn bread, and of course, SWEET TEA!
Mike, none of us know what the tax situation will be next year. Not casting blame, but none of the political types in DC seem to know how to turn things around. All the finance "GURUS" say that it will turn itself around and the best thing they can do is leave well enough alone, but they don't listen. Anyway, I suspect a tax increase is going to happen, just a question of how they do it.
As to the question, it's very important and one we need to keep asking. Like Jack, my father worked a couple of jobs to keep food on the table. He wasn't the most spiritual minded or Godly, but he did what he knew to do. While my kids know I do my best, they see and hear me pray, I don't use foul language, nor watch/look at objectionable things, but I also spoil them a bit much. Not perfect by any stretch, but I also try my best. One area I lack in is that lately, I have been putting in many hours away from home and when I am home, not very active with playing with them. I am working on it.
I think we are giving Jim plenty for his homily, but I am sure he gets his inspiration from the Almighty.
Hope Y'all have a good night,
Dennis
Ray, we were posting at the same time. Sorry for your sister's loss. Also, sorry that another veteran has passed.
TCA#09-63805
Good evening all, cloudy day today with light sprinkles. No real rain and temp. is warm.
Went to foot doctor appointment this morning but got some sad news earlier today that my sister's husband passed away last night. I did not know him very well or I should say hardly at all. I went fishing once with him and my brother and that was over 30 years ago. He has been ill for some time so I guess it was not a shock to his family exactly. I feel real bad that I cannot go to the funeral for my sister's sake at least but my health will not allow me to travel at the moment. I called her today and she understands perfectly and did not expect me to come all the way from California to North Carolina. She knows I would if I could. Most of our other family members will be there for her and the Marine Corps will supply a guard of honor. He was a retired veteran with a whole career in the Marines. R.I.P.

Evening all. New brakes on the front of the pickup. New rotors, wheel seal, repacked bearings and new pads. Ready for another 119K.
Jack, there are remote control kits now available for older ceiling fans. Lowes and Home Depot have them here.
Need to go watch the Great Planes I DVD'd. F104, F15 and one of my favorites, the B25.
Going to hit the road early tomorrow for Greenville, NC and Pit Memorial Hospital [part of East Carolina Med School]. Guy that is like family had cancer operation. He had early pacemaker [large like a bagphone] and never would let them remove it. Dropped down and stuck out on his lower stomach area. They thought the wires had cancer and the heart attachements too. Only cancer area was at the stomach area. He was lucky. Then I will come by Moms. Come home and head to the lake house to work on extra bath. Plumber and I should finish it.
Cold and cold tomorrow. 60's by Thursday and into the weekend. Of course. I'm at at Bass Pro Shops event.

Good afternoon all
It has been a crazy past few days and our internet has been out so that is why I have not been around. Sorry for missing the SPF, and this coming week I will be away again till late Sunday evening so someone else will need to start the SPF again. There is a lot going on right now. My bride and I are working through the legal stuff to get temporary custody of the grandkids. Please keep all concerned in prayers for openness to God’s will.
Youngest daughter got a part time job and should tie her over till something else comes along. Thank you for you prayers for her employment and health after her car wreck. She is feeling better, does have the busted ribs, whiplash and displaced hip, but she is on the mend.
Jim F – Something sounds amiss with your fan. How much is coming off that breaker?
Laz – I remember watching Chiller when I was young and a show with a night owl, can’t remember the name of that show.
Dennis & Mike C – The scripture reading for Ash Wednesday this week speak very clearly of the reward for putting on a good show for the sake of the outward appearance, and is the theme of my homily.
May God bless

To be honest I really didn't want 11 post of the same thing basicly I was trying to get it to post. and thought it was funny that I could still type while waiting for it to post didn't know if it would type but it did in a few. any way did try to delete but we know how that goes on this new forum.
hows it going not to much happening did manage to do a full day at work and not feel like you know what when the day was over so maybe I'm getting over this what ever it is.
Well put a pizza in the oven for dinner so need to check on it should be about done talk to you all later

RT.......I read every one of your posts and found one more fascinating than the next.
Sir James and Charlie......thanks for the videos, though I didn't hear enough back seat driving going on.
Dennis......one thing I carried with me from my parents was their effort. My dad worked 7 days a week with 2 of them 15 hour days. Mom was alone to hold down the fort. And they never argued in front of us. There was always time for us. And as I look back, the quality of time made up for the quantity.
Chief.....liked the idea of the remote control ceiling fans. Wife has a temperature comfort range of about 1.5 degrees, but you cannot predict when the range will change nor how long that range will last. Same with the light intensity. Remote is the ticket.
Patrick.....been having several strange things happen with the forum here. As magically as they appear, they disappear.
DougDG......those aren't NC gophers, are they? Check their IDs.
DougM......was watching some TV commercial where the guy was deliberately trying to clog his toilet so he could hire the neighbor's good looking female plumber. Your wife wouldn't think of doing something similar to kick some interior decorating master plan into high gear, would she?

Dennis, Don't worry about space in the car, just take the biggest ya' got plus there is always U-Haul. RE the kids, I have always believed in the old adage "If you talk the talk, you gotta walk the walk". Starting at a very early age kids learn so much more by watching than by hearing.

Mitch, Can't be late ? You mean rank don't have it's privelages.......
Hopefully I can try to get caught-up on some yard work. Yard is still a bit soggy, between the sogginess and the gophers in some ares it's like walking on a wet sponge.

Morning all.
Worked from home this morning and now off to office.
Dennis - sent you a PM re your question.
Sunny and cool here. Nice!
Having some e-mail server problems with the new account. I am getting mails but having trouble sending them using my forwarding service. Hope they figure it out. Got the home network working well, but it took a day and a half (will anything ever change).
LAZ - you have the day off today? Fixing spindle sanders (not for hiz honer the Chief is it?) and treadmill time????
Hope everyone has a great day today!
Regards, Roy
cnw1995 Morning all. Unexpectedly frosty this am. Great question, Dennis, and it's never too early for pondering, Mike. Got a gaggle of meetings to catch up from being not here with the flood and all. Meeting an old cubicle mate from 20 yrs ago for coffee later. Will be great to catch up. Laz, wish I got to play with some o f your school toys.

DOUG,
Sometimes it great to have all these toys. And other times people expect you to fix everything. " You win some and loose some, but ya gotta dress for em all."

Good morning all,
Great news! The possible tax issue with Lucas went away at least for 2008! I have a saying, "It is better to be lucky than good because if you are lucky, you do not have to work at it." I am still not sure what the ramifications are for 2009 and beyond, but at least we have time to check on it and prepare for it. As the situation originally stood, we could have been in a world of hurt. I still have some investigating to do, but it is all good for now.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana

RT .... I thought that multi posting was an old coger's problem ... like me .... LOL . Nice to see a young fellow can do it too .... . Jim .... yea ... make sure you're not hanging a much heavier or larger fan on a light mount . I never thought of that when replying . Had the electricians install the heaviest one possible here when I built the house ... in case of future changes ... and a foot of extra wirirng . Halogen ? Scarey to me ... how about one of those new energy effecient bulbs .... ?
HI GYZ,
23 here and windy today. Got the parent teachers conference day today, gotta go in at 1Pm till 830. I have a spindle sander to fix today, a new spindle so I gotta replace it, about a 2hr job. Also got to make 3 picture frames for the NYC pictures of the Hudson, Mohawk and yet to find Niagara pics I got at the Allentown show. Gotta go and do my 4 miles now on treadmill. So FIFE, BUCKEYE and CHUCK watch out your legs might be aching?
Stay Frosty,
Dennis,
That is a good question the preacher posed. I rarely post in the middle of the day or in direct reply to another post, but that is one worth pondering. I think it is important for kids to know their dad loved their mom and that their dad loved them as well. I also think the kids should know their dad lived life to the fullest and that he actually lived as opposed to just existing. As to being a Godly person, that can be interpeted so many ways. I know some people who are involved very little in church activities but attend to their family's spiritual needs in other ways and there are some who are very "churchy" and neglect their kids. There is a balance somewhere, and I like to think most people try to find that balance. We do not always succeed, but the effort is what is important and so is the recognition where we fall short. Whew! This is way too heavy for a Monday morning.
Good Morning from Blueberryhill....
It is a sunny and clear day. Problem is.....it's 20 degrees. Going up to 34 today.
Today is a busy day. I have some errands to run and a few chores around the house. Just a normal Monday. So far.....anyway. Not much else new, here.
Dining car was here and we had the usual for breakfast.
Y'all have a great Monday.
Chuck
Good Morning Y'all! Well, as of 0700 this morning, I am off call! (at least for the next week). Had some honey dos to attend to and then church. Had a very dynamic preacher from TN as a guest speaker. Was very good and left us with the thought: What will your kids say about you when you are gone? Will they know that you were a Godly man?
I have been compiling a list of what I'd like to get at York.... I will either run out of money, or run out of space in the car. A budget, I will need a budget so I will know when to say when.
Going to look at SPF and then get to work. Plan to do some work on the control panel this week and then get the whole thing running. Need to do some final runs with my largest engines/rolling stock to make sure everything works at track speed before closing in with scenery.
Hope everyone has a great week ahead.God Bless,Dennis
PS: Roy, you have email
IIABSDISEI with temps near 30 for a high. Drive in was ok. It was good driving the Tardis last night since all the fixes have been made. Had leftover pancakes and sausages this morning on the dining car for breakfast. Did not warm them up enough and put too much butter on them. Will not make that mistake again. Might send the remainder down south instead of to "Points East" as I do not want to ruin the "saucy wench's" reputation among those who appreciate good food :-) Beacon is lit after the high school band concert tonight. I hope everyone has a good day.
Morning. Lucy woke me early this AM. Got lunch with African-American minister of big Church in Roseyville and the Chairman of the County Commissioners Chairman [was a Tuskegee Airman]. Then do a front brake job on the pickup this afternoon. Off to cook breakfast. Later.
Morning!
Chief: Thanks!
Brutus: If that's a new ceiling fan, Chef's right. Make sure you have additional support connecting that junction box to the joists. If it's in a ceiling that's not accessible, there is an overhead support that's made of cast metal, 2-piece, that will unscrew and press against the joists, and fit thru the box hole. Only tool for this is an adjustable wrench. You will need to remove the box, and install the brace to the joists, and reinstall the box to the support. Better safe here than to have this thing in your lap. I'll be right over. I think the halogen is too hot. Can't wait to see what's in the mail. Thanks!
Sir James & Charlie: Great videos! The Ann Arbor cars, and trailer trains were great! 3 Trainmasters!!!!

Morning Folks,
Stopping in for a quick cup before I head out to work. Like Roy, I was hoping the 24 car could pull it out. Spent most of the day yesterday after church shopping with the Mrs. That gal sure does like to shop, she shopped most of the day Saturday shopping with a girlfriend and then yesterday. Can't complain though because she is such a bargain shopper, never buys anything fill retail. Got gas yesterday for $1.75, in Camp Hill, PA, much cheaper than near home ($1.93), seems like the price may be dropping a bit in the last few days as it had been $1.99 and a bit higher. .
I best get going, not good when the Principal is late for school.
Take care,
Mitch

LAZ,
I think the day they showed "The Day the Earth Stood Still" they also showed "Crack in the World". Maybe it was a traveling package of reels eh?
Like you said - those were good times!
Brutus - I have dealt with the same thing several times - rarely is there too much wire on a ceiling fan.
Good race in Fontana this evening. Hoped Jeff would win one, but Kenseth deserved it also. Bad '08 for both of them. Too bad about engine troubles for Martin and Earnhardt. Hope they fix it for next week in LV.
BTW - forum is reallyslow tonight.
Reclinerized a little. Did watch a good western on Halmark.
Brutus, you screw the bracket to the box [I hope the box is mounted to a 2X4 or has a bracket between two 2X4's], there is a little hook to hang the assembled fan on while you wire the fan and then you finish the mounting. If it is a plastic box just mounted to the ceiling drywall like in new houses, your fan will be hanging by the wires from the ceiling soon.
RT, I know you want to catch up with me in number of posts. Trying to do it with one posts is not good.
Good night all. Sleep tight and don't let the Ohio Yankee bed bugs bite.
Well, I started on the ceiling fan project today at about noon. Had to get tools and ladder and take down old one etc. Stopped for a lunch break and a couple breaks for water and potty. Whoever designed this fan was not very bright. Instructions tell you to install bracket, assemble fan to pole, put on bracket, add the reciever, then cover and move down to blades and light. Okay - the wires for the reciever are about 3 inches long and come out the sides. Not enough room to go back up to the box above Finally solved it by literally assembling just the receiver to the house wiring, then with the fan already in the bracket, mounting that to the box while at the same time pushing the receiver on these little wires into the bracket My shoulders are killing me from holding this thing out at arms length for basically an hour or so while I messed around with this thing. Okay, got it done. Fan works. Light works. But, after a while, the light turns off - like the max time is about 2 hours and it turns off? So we dimmed the light with the control and it lasted longer but eventually did the same thing. We think it's a switch inside to keep it from overheating?
My criteria was simple - we have two wall switches and I wanted one to control an incandescent bulb and one to control the fan, with no remotes involved. Wife picked out a fan that only has a remote control for speed and light, which is a halogen light. I think this is a plot to claim my life insurance?
No trains today and no drywall mudding. I did have a small glass of wine and nice email chats with RT, then Doug, Charlie and Sir James. All fine gentlemen and a good time was definitely enjoyed. Kurt - I sent you an email, did you get it? Excellent job on the sand house! I'll put something in the mail for you tomorrow.
Guys, I'm too tired to list you all, but I see a lot of beacons and I'm on the way. Mike will have to drive until he can get one of you to take over? I'm not sure if one small glass of wine would blow positive, but I don't take chances
Anybody want a slightly used ceiling fan?
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
LOL... RT just wasted 15 posts for us!
Well worked on little layout for about 3 hrs today. Got track down buildings down and wired, and street lights down and wired. All works no problems. Now gotta paint and make streets.
ROY, did the same with the horror flicks in the 60's. For 15 or 25 cents gotta see some good ones. I saw the one you seen, The Day the EArth stood still with the Crack in the world. Saw lots o Frankenstien Movies, Dracula,The Thing, Monster from the Black Lagoon. Great times! Older teenagers that worked the theaters use to dress up as the Characters and scare all the kids. Imagine them doing that today.... Lawsuits! But back then it was kinds neat.
Evening All
Its late for me but I just had a great evening on a chat line with some of the "pot" guys, lots of fun and even got some info passed around have a great Monday.
