I redid my kitchen in Pittsburgh the year before I moved to Baltimore. Installed all Kenmore appliances from Sears. No problems with them ever, and renters love them. I went with higher mid-grade stuff (not stainless) an. Here in Baltimore we have Kenmore appliances stainless, but not the pro line. No problems with them either. Consumer reports always gives Kenmore good grades for reliability (higher than Bosch, Wolf, and the other 'professional' appliance dealers, even Kitchenaide). We're looking to upgrade our stove from a single oven unit to a dual oven unit, going with Kenmore again. I would really like to upgrade the dishwasher because I find ours to be a bit on the loud side. I'm also looking to install a garbage disposer, that too will be Kenmore.  IMHO with Kenmore you can't go wrong.

Been reading about the 'Vision' line... with Lionel's continued disregard to B&O, C&O, WM, Chessie, etc I have a feeling I'll be saying a lot of money in the coming years. Really getting sick and tired of only seeing PRR, NYC, Santa Fe, and UP in their offerings. Very incredibly disappointed with the route Jerry has taken the company. Focusing on the high-end market during an economic downturn, IMHO, is basicly throwing in the towel. I'll be you dollar to dollar that NONE of the Lionel exe staff is at York. Maybe I should just stay away from their booth... I may get thrown out and barred from ever attending again... I'll check out the catalog on Monday and then decide what I'm going to do... last catalog there was ONE thing I really wanted (C&O E7s) and they cancelled them... now this...

Old Timer [you good old REB, you], just finished pruning grapevines and watering greenhouse.  Now changing and calling for rental car.  Go visit friend whose wife died and then Town Hall.  After my "meeting" with Town Manager, off to Charlotte/Concord for Bass Pro Shops event [will rest then].  Man it is real warm.  Shirt sleves and still sweat on the brow.  Then rainy and bottom falls out for weekend.

Chief ... I don't know what it is you take or eat to get so much darn energy ... must be those grits ! Man ... I've never seen a guy so busy and doing so many things all the time .  By the way ... I live below the mason dixon line and fly the stars and bars ... does that make me a southern rebel .... hope so ? Sold my williams cab forward to my brother in law ... but not before buying another mint in the box unit . Man ... they're extremely hard to get ! He begged like a lil kid at xmas time ... LOL . Mine had alot of track time ... this one was only tested and repacked . Nobody wants to give them up ... changed my mind on installing a sound board in it . Going to get a car with steam sounds instead ... couple it up and won't have to alter the tender with holes ... etc. Decided a few weeks ago to go Reading for work train set ... my mistake ... they're premium for rolling stock ... and rarer .

Bosch was a german company back in the day, but who knows where parts are made and who is putting it together now.  JD Power and Associates seem to really like their diswashers...

They are a little pricier, but how much did your dishwasher really cost you in the long run???

Morning all!

I need to call Frigidare today to see if they'll pay for the labor.  Since I already wrote a check to the repair guy, one more and this thing is out.  Parts are in, and can be installed tomorrow.  I asked the repair guy if there are any DWs he doesn't see, and he said no.  So it may be a crap-shoot.  Common boxcars! Daddy needs a new dishwasher.

Jack:  This seems to be an ongoing problem, and I'm sure that Frigidare is aware of it.  We can't be an isolated issue.  The control electronics are covered by the 90 day warranty from the last time they were repaired, or we would be dumping this thing now.

Wes:  I have friends with a Bosch Dishwasher, and they love it.  Super Super quiet, but high end.  Let me know if you find something worthwhile.  Seems like you need to spend really big bucks just to get something that works.

Rich:  That is a nice ride!  Is it loud?  Do mothers take their children off the streets when it comming?  Hope things work out.

Chief:  Plumbing?  Don't you just go outside and reel the bucket up from the well?  Or do you have a fancy indoor bucket?

Doug:  Lights yet?

LAZ, not my pipes but some dumb Yankee that went back Nawth and did not leave enough heat.  Now they are heading to the lake and want everything ready.

Got lots to do today.  Then hit the road.

Have a good one.

On the topic of appliances.....seems everyone I talk to is dissatisfied with what (brand) they have because the suckers just don't seem to have any quality built in on the front end, break down, and then don't have the longevity either even when repaired.  Wife and I outfitted the entire kitchen and laundry with Kenmore when we moved in here 20 years ago.  Got the best package deal from Sears.  Only the dryer is original.  The second pass at purchases not as good as we have had 2 repairs on the fridge ($600 out of pocket).  Microwaves...we're on our third.  Garbage disposal, #3 as well.  When any of the appliances start leaking water and you have hardwood in the kitchen.....Banged Head

Wes.....$2,800 for the four pieces you noted would be a good deal up this way.  Appliance places are really wheeling and dealing.  Higher $ if you get into the ridiculous brands with features no one would ever use.  Your quote is about what daughter and SIL got three months ago for the same 4 pieces.  Re stainless, daughter got this finish with the alleged "doesn't show smudges and fingerprints."  It works with the 5 year old Granddaughter.  Daughter got a 6 burner glasstop with the center griddle and uses that feature to death.  Plus she cooks a lot and needs more than the standard 4-5 burners.  Warmer in the bottom drawer that some stoves use for just storage also works well and comes in handy every time she's trying to keep everything warm for serving.  I'll get the brand they bought, all the same.

Kurt.....Consumer Reports had an issue some time back on appliance life expectancy.....not good, scary.  They also provided advice about when you should repair vesus replace.  If my memory serves me correctly, 6 years was the cut off and 8 was "Don't even think about repair."  Seems that we are perpetuating the throw away mentality out of financial necessity.  Daughter got just short of 6 years out of her last side by side fridge which included $550 of off warranty repairs and was facing a new compressor to boot.  Extended warranties on appliances might be worth it after all.

DougM.....re Rex Grossman's replacement.  Patriots' Matt Cassel ain't available, at least not yet.  Has been franchised at $14M for one year, though Tom Brady's recovery from knee surgery is allegedly moving along nicely now despite post operative infection issues.  Cassel is a winner.

Dennis and wifey playing the violin?  Reverse torture.  Will drive the kids nuts. Thumbs Up  I'm for it.  Big Smile

Sir James and Charlie's next set of videos......more steamers and shots of you guys walkning around the layout with beers, like one of Laz' videos from about a year ago.  He said it was a soda can in his hand, but the rest of us weren't buying it.

Later, gang.

Kurt, sorry to hear about your Fridgidaire dishwasher.  I'm actually glad you posted that (but with obvious regret), since I'm in the market for all new kitchen appliances.  The wife wants stainless steel.  Appliance Mart has a good deal going with be rebates on the Fridgidaire Professional line.  I didn't want to break the budget on appliances, and these looked to be a god solution.  Electric flattop range, side-by-side fridge with water in the door, microwave, and dishwasher for $2800.  That doesn't seem like such a good deal anymore...I guess I'll see what Sears has.

Morning all. This is my bride's 'retreat day' so I am handling everything today - LOL. Kurt, sorry about that dishwasher  - I still roll my eyes every time our 'new' Whirlpool lights up all these LEDs when it is doing something. But at least it works.  Mike, I am resisting the clarion call of that tinplate catalog - I am imagining trolleys! Standard Gauge!  Good ride on the Tardis last night - thanks to Laz' brews. Nothing like an Ol' Mill. Speaking of Bears, I wonder where QB Rex Grossman will end up.

Good morning all,

It is foggy and warm in SE Indiana with temps in the 60s.  I am still wiping the drool from last night off my face, but the breathing is normal.  Laz, thanks for the extra Old Mils as it was a night for celebrating, not fogetting.  It was extra nice at the YMCA as the exchange student was there.  All the gym space was taken so we went to the side of one and just passed the ball back and forth for 20 minutes.  We also worked on our outisde of the foot passes as well.  Watched "Lost".  Stranger episode than normal.  IRL completed two days of testing at Homestead.  As expected, Team Green and Team Red dominated the speed charts, but there were a few surprises.  Will Power was slow in the Penske car.  The "Princess" was only two spots faster than Milka the moving chicane.  Meira was 13th quick for AJ's team.  Sounds like there has been an outbreak of plumbing and music issues on the pot lately.  You have to tune in daily as you never know what will occur.  I had the regular fare on the dining car for breakfast before heading to "Points East".  It is pretty bland so it might past thru the southern borders.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Evening all!

A long one today. We get a new general manager at work Friday. 4th one in 3.5 years. Wonder how long this one will last.

Jack - another 81 today - no orange ones needed here!

Ray - condolences.

Fifer - its not even a competition...

Mike C - be careful you're hyperventilating....

Kurt - that's a pain. It has been a while since we have had a bad appliance here, and I was finally able to get it fixed myself. We have a neat shop in the area called the Appliance Man and can get any part if it is available and seels it at discount to boot.

Grits - looks like Chief will be on his way to the White House for breakfast.

Doug and Dennis - I don't know - Jack Benny comes to mind here...

Another nice day on tap for tomorrow. We are 9 inches behind on rain and they are predicting another dry season here. Lakes are already 85% and it has not been warm here at all this past winter.

Have a great evening and a great day tomorrow all!

Regards, Roy

Home from the lake.  Plumber never showed as he had big repair job.  Seem these folks left no heat in there house except space heaters.  Forgot space heater for utility room.  Seems copper piping is split.  I got wall up and shower over tub installed.  Got a lot of the trim done and installed one medicine cabinet.  Came back tonight when I found out plumber will not make it tomorrow either.  Got to visit a close friend whose wife died yesterday.  She was in her 70's and had heart trouble for several years.  Then meet with Town Manager and drive to Charlotte BPS.   This old boy is tired.  Good night.

Good evening Y'all.  Ol'Timer, yeah, they did buy new china....last occupants stole it all.  Actually, it is common for incoming president to pick new china and other items.

Well, I had spoken to a guy wanting to sell his trains from the late 40s to mid 50s.  Went over there tonight, let's just say that a 2037 without tender was the best thing he had.  Had a scout set, several Marx pieces, including a Rock Island F3 set, but it was missing some pieces and the windows on the dummy unit were missing.  He had all these high hopes as a friend of his has been checking eBay for prices.  I think he was either looking at MIB or over inflated asking prices.  I doubt he was looking at prices for items that had actually sold.  I did my best to inform him and then told him that I had the items that he had that I would have had any interest in.  Oh well.  He at one point had said that he thought the O gauge track would be selling for $10-$15 each piece, but would take the lower end of $10.

Went to kids violin lessons.  Instructor had the bride and I doing it too.  Came home and the new violins were here.  I just need to rosin the bows.  Very impressive pieces.  Now wife wants me to order some full size ones for us to play.  This could be interesting.

God Bless,
Dennis

Good evening all,

A rare late night post during the week.  The new Lionel MTH Tinplate catalog is online. www.lionelcorporation.com OMG!  Holy s---!  This is the first catalog in a long, long time that I can be excited about.  Real Trac Standard gauge track.  Standard guage sized Lionel villas!  The Brute (3, count 'em, 3 motors!!!)  They are unloading all the big guns on this one.  Wow!  (Tell us, Mike, how do you really feel?)  Have a good evening everybody!   Last night, I left beer foam all over the floor of the Tardis.  Tonight, it will probably be drool.  Have a good evening everybody!

Keep on training,

RockIsland - Strateegury only.  He's got a lot of work to do.  While I am only a few work sessions from completing my Cumberland section.  Golden Spike time is near!

As soon as the bridge is built and installed I'll be back to running trains without having to back them up - on the upper level at least. The bottom level I could run trains, but right now I'm using it to store freight cars... and that track is probably very dirty due to construction.

Hence my list for York includes a track cleaning car. Don Baker - is Aztec at York?

Evening all!

Fridgidare Dishwasher dead AGAIN!  Angry  Repairman out AGAIN!  Need to replace all the electronics....AGAIN.  One still under origional, and rest less than 90 days from last replacement of same.  Still under warranty.  We still have to pay $114 in labor each trip.  This makes 4-trips.  2- we needed to pay labor on.  I'll be researching the Michigan Lemon law.

Off to dinner.  Pancakes and sausage...4-yo idea.
