Good Morning From Blueberryhill....

It is a cold 15 degrees. About an inch of snow left on the ground. A few flurries today with a high of only 27.

Today, I have a few errands to run. Then some paprwork to do. Maybe I'll get down to train room, later this afternoon.  Not much else new.

Dining car was here and we had the usual for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Wednesday.

Chuck

#1 Never do business with Home Depot.  Been having carpet problems for 4 years and they keep trying to pass the buck.  Never been right.  They are wanting us to fight with their contractor over poor installation.

#2 If you want to renew your subscriptions to CTT and Trains, you have to have the mailing label.  Who keeps the mailing labels on their magazine?  [the reason they are held on with rubber cement is so you can remove them]  You have to have the renewal code on the label even though they have your info on your online account.  DUH

Morning all. Freakin' cold again. It's 7 so with the breeze, feels like 22 below. Ugh. Supposed to warm tomorrow. We'll see. At least no snow.

I think I have most of the wiring issues worked out. When I was experimenting with running back three engines into their house tracks, I noticed one would activate when the switch on the Selector was pushed for another track so I've done something wrong there. I also disconnected the wires to the homemade turntable until I could find a better way to feed them through the bottom. It's easier to move the engine on with power, then spin it and help the engine off by hand, then power it again.

DJ, what instrument did you play in your band days? Anyone else here play anything?  I can still play flute I learned in H.S.

Good Morning,

Orange juice almost frozen on orange trees! Currently 55 at 9:55am, going to be down to freezing tonight in West Palm Beach FL!!!  BRRRRRRRRR!  You can send that northern weather back where it comes from, back to the North Pole!!  Have to use the heater in the house, yes they do install air conditioning with reverse cycle heating this far south because of the chance of a cold blast from the north every now & then. Miami FL may not have heating in their air conditioning as they usually don't get below 40 in the winter.

Went to scrap metal and got $2.50 for all the stuff I took, two brake rotors and some copper pipe scrap. cnw1995, you are correct in that scrap metal prices are really low!!

Good Morning all from Snowy Southern Ohio!

It is beautiful outside!  The grandkids stayed over last night and school was cancelled today so we have lots of company.  The boy and I went out scraping walks and we went around the block scraping neighbors off too.  We ran trains last night for a while and had lots of fun.  Lots of posting on the pot lately.

Cheif - It would seem the contractor is responsible for work done by a subcontractor; what is hard about this?Sigh

May God bless

I agree, very cold this morning.

Went to library Monday night to return a book and a Fine Woodworking magazine.  Checked out a book on the B&O railroad.  Has some interesting pictures and maps.

Watched Extreme trains last night as I had missed most of the Acela episode when it first aired.  kinda strange to bounce between steam loco maintenance and the Acela high balling up the NE corridor.

Have everything to do taxes but can't seem to get enthusiastic about it.  Feel I will have to pay this year, not good.

Jim, check your PM's.

Good Morning

Yep it's cold. tomorrow too.

Charlie my feeling about the seat has always been, if you need it you should check to see where it is. How many times have you fallen in? not many I'd bet, because you look first. At least the seat was dry.

Went grocery shopping this morning, wife picked a nice cold day couldn't wait till thursday when it suppose to be warmer. Still coughing from the cold air.

No trains yet, maybe, maybe not.   S.J.

Afternoon all!

Mike C:  Great to see you here!  Great news about the first shadow!  Continuing in prayer for you.

Charlie:  I close the deck lid too.  Everyone has to lift something.  Paper gets installed to run over the top, right?

Doug:  I grew up playing the clarinet, and played bass in and after high school.  Made a demo as bass player, with a band and was offered a part in another band that was touring nationally, but turned it down to go to school.  I still have everything, but no time to play.  Girls should be old enough for piano soon, and I will be able to practice with them!

Greg:  Continuing to pray for some work for you!  Hang in there.

Patrick:  Just wanted to say hi, just in case you're still around!

Tax papers organized and tallied!  We have ours done.  He seems to find more than he charges.

Chief, I renew all my hobby magazines by phone.  Very easy and no problems so far.

Morning all, this talk about snow all the time makes me wonder if you guys live at the North Pole.  What happened to Global Warming?  Some say that the whole thing is not true.  Maybe polar ice is melting but I suppose it could be colder somewhere else in the world like Snohio.

GregM.....I hate to be the bearer of bad news to these guys, but you hit the nail on the head.

The show has just begun.  Soon these guys will be pining for the good old days when the issues were simple, far less expensive, and infinitely less emotionally draining.  Every time they think they have gotten over the hump, it will start all over.  Big Smile  I have come to believe that the cause of grey hair and male pattern baldness is NOT heredity.  It's environmental.

I agree, Chief.....That " star " rating system means nothing. They should just remove it completely from all threads. We can just reply to a thread and tell the person, who posted, that we like it.

Greetings Folks,

I have a feeling that the star rating system is a bit too trigger happy. I know I read on one of the threads that someone left less than five stars without meaning too. It would be nice if it double checked with the person rating if they were sure that was the rating they wanted to leave, something like the preview option we have when we post.  The Pre War Flyer picture thread carried 5 stars for more than a year and then all of a sudden it lost a portion of a star. But it also happened after some newer members to the forum might have posted.  I can take or leave the star system.  I usually form my own opinon of a thread or a posting, and I have noticed that most folks who do post aren't afraid of sharing their opinions.  Wink.

Enjoying the World's Greatest Hobby

Edit:

Yikes!!  I just tried to add a 5 star rating and it looks like it dropped to 4.  If it did, my apologies.  Talk about sticking my foot in my mouth.

Good Day, Gentlemen Whistling,

Sunny and 20 now.  Got another 6" of the white stuff yesterday and last night, powder, accompanied by 14 degree temperatures and a hefty blow off the ocean.    We're pushing about 55 inches so far this Winter with (feasibly) snow into late March.  More than the seasonal average of 44" but won't approach the 140+" we got back in the Winter of 1996-1997, I think.

What are the single snowfall and seasonal snowfall records for yuz guyz?

After 6 years the wife finally took her rear wheel drive car out in the snow after I made the investment in some all season radials.  Bridgestone RE 960 Potenzas.  She had a problem on just one incline getting out of her parking lot at work, so I'm going to add 80 pounds in the trunk and go from there.  Folks ahead of her were struggling too, and I bet they were front wheel drive.  At the risk of being repetitive, snowblowers rock.

Ran some trains earlier today (no pileups despite a cranky coupler) and began my annual angst over whether I should touch up or repaint some pieces or leave them as they are.  Some like Northwoods would observe there is an interesting story behind every nick or scrape, especially with trains that have survived childhood and have been running for over 5 decades.  My engines get wiped down and wrapped in old white t-shirts when pulled off and replaced on the track with another.  Guess I'll procrastinate until my obsession with perfection passes.

Garage fridge is stuffed with beer, leftover from the SB.  None of it got consumed because my daughter and son-in-law decided to hosted the party and told me not to bother dragging it over to their place.  What do you guys think I should do with it all?  I'm worried it will go stale, and I have read somewhere that it is a sin to waste.  Smile,Wink, & Grin  I'll probably call Laz for advice.  He seems to be the brewskie expert around these parts.

Later Gents,

Jack

Good afternoon Y'all!  Well, it was real cold out this morning when I came in.  I think it was in the 20s and supposed to head down to 18 tonight.  During the day it warms up to the 50-60s.  Can't tell as I have been inside the whole day.  I am tired as have had plenty to do.  A few emergencies and a couple of scheduled cases.  Hopefully it will be clear soon that I may go home and visit family.  Have a dinner at a Japanese place tonight.  One of our reps is taking a couple of us out.  No wives, no kids, so I won't stay long.  Need to go over some details and eat, then home.  Have a few cases tomorrow, so sleep will be needed.

Charlie, want to have fun?  Start making a fuss anytime folks leave the seat down.  tell them that if  they don't lift it, you'll start peeing on the seat!  After the swelling goes down, you can then say "yes dear, I'll remember to put the seat down".

Chief, say it ain't so.  No SnOhio in NC!  It may have gotten a littl cold down these parts, but the chance of snow is rather limited.

Spoke with wife, one of the secretaries on the floor where she sometimes works died.  She was 70 and really looking forward to retirement.  More evidence that I want to retire early and enjoy life with loved ones while I can.  Wife is going to attempt to attend funeral tomorrow.

God Bless,
Dennis

Jack, I am certainly glad that you do your running log of responses to posts here...makes me remember from 4 pages ago, who said what (except a little slip with Jon, but I digress).  In answer to your question:

"What are the single snowfall and seasonal snowfall records for yuz guyz? "

That'd be a big goose egg.....O.O inches!  I really have never heard of any snow down this end.  When I was in Columbus, we once had 1/2" of snow that lasted a few hours.  All told, I have lived here for 15 years and that was the grand total of snow for me in Georgia.....1/2".

I guess I don't see the value in the rating system, am I missing something?  It's way to subjective to rate most topics.  I also see no need to see how many posts we all have made except who has the most hot air, Chief Laugh

Snow will all be gone by Friday AM, heat waves forecast 50's +.  Sadly, it appears that winter is taking a break Ashamed

I have learned to sneak up on the stars from the right side, if you just move your cursor over them, they react.  Very sensitive on my computer.

We had a crazy weather pattern in the county last night. At my home we did not get a bit, some parts of the county got 12" .

Need to run some trains. Maybe get something out of storage that I haven't run for a while.

Fife - that station looks mighty nice. Since the 'rock' in this area is a deep maroonish color, and the water tower is orange I really think the buff and brown B&O paint scheme will look better than the grey and maroon WM scheme. I did give a lot of thought to the tower option, but then a water tower wouldn't have made much sense, and since I have the water tower and really wanted it on the layout I decided the station and water tower would work fine. I have been thinking of getting a switch tower to put where the void is where the switch used to be that I removed this past weekend.

We need to arrange a 'session' soon. My layout is out of commission due to a gaping void where the curved trestle is going to be, and I have to figure out if I am building this or having someone build it for me. I found someone who builds VERY nice trestles complete with lookouts and railings, and I don't think I have the patience to build it myself... depends on cost I guess.

Sir James, what we need is a Door into Summer Wink  Tardis is ready, sorry it was running late last night and forgot to post.  Mike, you are on man!  SJ - sounds good!

Watching Fringe online - good show but I can't watch it in real time as it scares my wife and I never get to watch my shows on the dvr anymore, guess I'm low man on the totem pole.

Got my prewar tank car I won on ebay for $3.  Trucks, frame, latches are good.  The tank was roughed up pretty badly on top, but not rusty, more like it was stored in a box full of nails or something?  I think I can just sand it smooth and then repaint it. One end is popped out a little, but I can fix that easily.  Now, should I restore it or do a custom job on it?

Where's RT - working OT I hope?
