Mornin' Fellas.

Mitch - you need an IT guy?

Don - Now I know how to model you on the RR... standing at the front door to your building looking at your hands and rubbing your forehead! Thumbs Up [tup]Laugh [(-D]

Well I didn't get much done on the layout last night, just mostly some playing around with tunnel portals and digital cameras! LOL! The first shipment of electrical components arrived yesterday. Now have 10 Euro style terminal blocks. Next I need the rotary switches and knobs (have to order today I guess). Did stop at Lowes last night and got 150' of 18-3 wire for the switches. This ought to be fun because the wires aren't black/green/red so I have to remember what order I attach them to each switch. Also picked up some 18-2 so I can run the feeders to the gantry crane and will also serve as the power bus for the lighting. I've been contemplating this as well... not sure how I want to do the lighting... really like the idea of the lights coming on randomly and not all at once when you flip a switch... but don't know how to make that happen.

The weather around here has been on a rollercoaster, Monday it was in the upper 60's, this morning it's below freezing and not expected to get out of the 40's and then back into the 60's before the end of the week.Confused [%-)]  Luckily, for our area, the storms that raced through here Monday did their worst to the North and West of here.  They're still trying to determin if some of the major damage was done by tornados or downblasts.  It seems that we're in an area that the weather from the west passes around us.  I feel we're in a weather shadow from Atlanta, the city breaks up the patterns pushing them north and south.  Good for storms but bad for needed rain.

Morning all.  Clear but suppose to be windy and cold [high 45].  Off to VA to do a training class on batteries and chargers.  Will come back by Mom's for a visit.  Now to cook stuffed country sausage and biscuits.  OH RockIsland, is that what those things are.  Us Southerners are not familiar with snow blowers.  Thought it might be a small silage cutter. Whistling [:-^]  Actually bought those 1/2 off at a store after Christmas.  Halmark.  Got those in honor of you Yanks.

Have a great day.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a cold 18 degrees. Got about 2 more inches of snow last night. Going up to only 28 today. Winter is still here.

Today is the grocery shopping day. We are going to go to Cambridge and hit a few stores. Gas prices have crept back up to $3.10 a gallon. Food prices are still high. Coffee is very high. It looks like we will be stuck with the economy in a slump. No train time today.

Dining car is here and ready for breakfast. Later.

Y'all have a great Wednesday.

Morning Folks.

A fresh pot is on.  I had the usual breakfast, oatmeal and toast.

Today is the last day for teacher interviews. Hooray.  Five to go then I am done interviewing teachers.  We will have interviewed well over 100 teachers.  After this comes interviews for kitchen, secretaries, custodians, assistants.  Will it ever end?  Actually it has been a pretty pleasant experience, only one or two real bad interviews in the whole bunch.  I am blessed that I have so many quality teachers to choose from.

Take care,

Mitch

Evening All (Good Morning)

Expected to come home today and do some control panel wiring.  (Today was bill paying day, so figured that would work out well.)  But boy it sure didn't go as planned.....

1. Got to office this morning, went to open the door, and realized I took the wrong keys, and didn't have an office key.  So had to go home and get it, and start all over.

2. On the way back, realized had to get gas, was putting it off.  But couldn't any longer.  Of course the lines were now long, and the gas price went up this morning again!  $3.11

3. Get the office open, and no internet access.  After 20 minutes trying to figure that out, disconnected the router, and tried the modem direct.  NO LUCK, re started the modem and things began to work, got the router back on, and all computers going.

4. Person came in with a "defective" cartridge and was inssistent we gave her the wrong one, as it turns out she has two printers and brought the wrong users manual in.  Plus she was not a native, and had a TERRIBLE time trying to understand her.  FINALLY got it squared away and she bowed at least 14 times as she was leaving.

5. Worked on getting month end accounting done, and bills paid.  Usually takes the better part of the day, today barely got through 1/2 the accounts.  All do to Invoices now being emailed and if I open the email Dat the wrong computer its a hassle.  The files are always in pdf format, so you dont know what they are until after its opened.  Invoice, or Shipping confirmation.  Then have to forward it back to myself and hope I remember not to check email before I get to the office.  (If I don't check email 2 or 3 times a day will end up with 500 messages, and if there are too many, it affects the website, and performance.  Just love this new technology crap.  BTW other mailboxes tied to mine can have as many as 3 or 4 thousand by the time I think about dumping them.

Then the good stuff.

Contacted a guy on the OGR forum about a cable for Legacy, TMCC, and DCS.  Its an easy mod, but he is selling the whole thing for $16.  Not worth messing around with for that price, including shipping.  (This will prevent me from having to purchase a TPC and still be able to have maximum control of everything, with the all 3 hand remotes.)  Cable ordered.

Then got word that our train club is going to have a Santa Fe night, especially passenger trains.  So got one I have had packed away for atleast 15 years.  (Lionel 2833's), Found it and the passenger cars.  Fixed the lights on 2 cars, a coupler on the dummy unit, and oiled and greased the A unit.  All works great!!  CAN'T BELIEVE I PUT THAT THING AWAY WITH A BATTERY IN IT !!!!  The expiration date on the battery was 1999, so had that mess to clean up.

But all things considered a very good day!!!  Especially regarding the Santa Fe !!

So didn't get any wiring done.

Doug I'm definetly missing something on that caboose !!!!!

Laz, curiosity got the better of me and I looked up Millersburg PA on a map.  I must have passed within 15 minutes of your place while travelling on Route 81 about 20 times.  Stayed in Carlisle every time and made some of the classic auto shows there.  You live up in the mountains!  Blue Hills anyway?

Brutus, how are Chewey's dew claws doing?  I mentioned the problem a while back to my wife and she wanted to know how it turned out.

Chief, was that (green of course) John Deere in one of your layout photos a snowblower mounted on a tractor front or a tiller?

John Bakeer, we need more UK participants.

CSXect, the race goes to the slow and sure.  Keep it up.  My SIL is doing the same drill with his closest friend.  Thought of joining him.  Saturdays are cheat days as long as progress has been made for that week.

CNW, sorry for the post about Glenview IL.  I thought you lived there.  Now I can't remember who on the forum said they were from there?  Was it Paul, pbjwilson?

Sir James I, ever been to Beaver Island MI?  Had relatives there many decades ago.

Sounds like a great project, Buckeye - will there be a bridge or 2?  Laz, I'll get some Old Mill for you next time, promise - noticed you did try one of the Sam Adams though!  Wink [;)] Snowed today, but didn't stick and for once school was open.  Wife got word of a reorg at work that might lead to promotion, so that should be good, keep fingers crossed.  I preordered a trolley and a couple of cars, also 2 teddy bears for the kids (shhhhhh!) as they collect those teddy bears from the mall.  Can't decide wether to preorder John Bull or just wait until it is out and get at LHS - in case it has problems like I used to have with my BFOC...  Still plenty of time to consider and actually one of my LHS's is doing a preorder by the 1st, so could do through them...  Need to load RR Tracks on this laptop and start on a new track plan.  I've got about 50 linear feet of gargraves to play with and 2 switches now - will have to expand my current table, though.  I heard about the power out in FL, did that affect St. Pete?  Plenty of girlscout cookies left over - lemon creme, peanut butter, samoas, trefoils, and I think some thin mints?  I'll grab some boxes and meet you guys at Kurt's, okay Sir James and Doug?

Hey Doug, I was looking at the Talyllyn website and they have a calendar, might order that for work.

Oh, and I finished giving training today - it went pretty well, but training is training after all.  I found out they will move my work space to be in the same room with the trainees when they come back and that should last about 8 weeks.  I know they'll be really challenging me on stuff when they come back, but we all seem to be getting along and I love interesting puzzles and problems, so I'm really looking forward to it!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Chief,

By any chance was your cruise on the Holland America Line, if so did you happen to leave a bag of grits behind ?

(San Diego, CA) -- Crews aboard a Holland America cruise ship had to do some major sanitizing after more than 100 people got sick during a trip to Mexico. An elderly woman was taken to the hospital for dehydration when the vessel returned to San Diego on Monday. Most of the people who were ill had flu-like symptoms. The source of the sickness isn't known.

Just couldn't pass this up !

Thanks Greg!

I heard back from Tom today and they have PDFs on their site of all their switches. You download the PDF and print it on a printer capable of printing tiled images... works great! I now have a HUGE printout of a #170 4-Way switch. Going to check fitment tonight.

Greg,
I emailed them this morning to see if they have a full-size template available. That way I can set it where it needs to go and see if it will work.

Brent , let me know if Ross can't supply a template.  I can send you a rough but usable outline I just made of the switch for planning purposes.  Out of curiosity I looked up what I paid for the switch back in 2002.  Was surprised, it was $214.95 but it did come with the motors installed.

I'll try to remember, Jack. There's a restaurant/bar right by the now-CN tracks in Schiller Park - it's an old freight house - that's set up like that, complete with IC photos. Feel sorry for our Floridians without power. At least it's warm down there.

Good Morning !

Looks like the weather is getting back to normal, supposed to be 74 today with clear skies!! Its tough be the weather tester for all you guys back east, the storm that's headed your way is a tough one. We do have some significant waves going on. Seal Beach which is our closest beach, (3 or 4 miles), had 18 foot waves. Also sustained some damage to the pier there.

http://www.presstelegram.com/portlet...shipId=1842437

Went to a movie last night, what a waste of time that was! Lots of good movies out but we went in the wrong door. (Jumpers) Definiely one that will be easy to forget!

Hopefully will find some time to wire up the track controllers (switches) in the control panel tonight.

John B, sure like that icon, watching the trains run!

Looks like a quiet day for work, hope everyone has a GREAT DAY !!

Doug,

What's the name of that famous really old bar on Glenview Road near the commuter rail tracks/station in Glenview, I think Pine Street dead ends into it coming from the North.  Once upon a time they had some great framed photos of old trains that ran by there hanging on the wall.

Arose from my pit at 0630GMT in a cool damp Stockport, sun peeping over the horizon, birds coughing and looking out the bedroom window????? The Magnolia is in blossom, this shouldn't happen until late March-early April. last time this occurred we had the coldest wettest summer on record. Current temperatures are running 2-3C above average.

On matters IT, it appears that the telephone network in South Manchester is getting over loaded as is my ISPs server, so at breakfast and at tea time I am occasionally denied access to the system and when I am on line the system runs at reduced speed. One e-mail last week took three days to go three miles! Snail mail beats that! ERNI is currently behaving well, with no disasters apart from MSTS playing up, am now having a dip int AURAN TRAINZ. I don,t like the way this site doubles the line spacing when I hit the space bar.

 Computing

After Easter I may in a position to do something about Lionel if funds permit? I'm missing the noise.

Morning all. I'll have a piece of Kurt's chocolate cake for breakfast. Actually had coconut-and-chocolate macaroons last evening. Yum. Thought Chewey and Sir James might like a few. Still snowing-and-blowing here - and supposed to get much colder. Not as much fell as the media panic-mongers said - more like 4 than 9 inches. On its way to Kurt and Sir James and Mike C. Of course, school is open here. Today's my late night - hopefully, the middle boy will clear the driveway before I get home and it's all frozen.

Ran trains last evening. Boy, was it fun. I swapped the tracks where Percy and James run so P can shunt the now-connected yard. I swapped some track where Percy was derailing. It's amazing how sensitive he and Thomas are - without a pilot truck. Speaking of Thom, he shunted some troublesome trucks and sure enugh, whilst pushing them, they prompted derailed in the far corner of the layout - for no apparent reason but to live up to their names. Wink [;)] Have a good day!

I am tempted but think I better keep it for now.  That switch is an odd size and doesn't come in a box as I remember making shipping a little problematic.  I ordered it from Jim's Train Shop in PA and when it was delivered it was wrapped in several layers of heavy bubble wrap.  If you can wait, contact Ross switches and ask them to bring one to York so you can pick it up.

I would like to get another arch-under bridge if I can, if not I'll have to think of something else to use as bridge for the last section of track through the gourge... I hadn't thought of it as a gourge so I guess it will now become Pollock Gourge (since Kurt was the first to call it that).

Now I really need to go back and get all those posts from last week... brb!
