Big day today in Ohio and Texas!  No matter your party affiliation or candidate preference, All the Ohioans and Texans need to exercise their constitutional responsibility today by getting to the polls.  I hope the weather is accomodating.

Morning to All,

A fresh pot is on.  Usual fare this AM, bagel and ceram cheese. Lots of rain headed our way, along with gusty winds.  Flood watch is in effect for this evening into Wednesday, the Susquehanna may come out of it's banks as well as many other small streams.  The weather person was saying that some strong fast-moving thunder storms could dump the equivalent of 1 to 2 inches an hour.  Could be worse, it could be snowhizo.  Yesterday was very warm, over 60, so was this AM, with the temp at 58 as I write.

More meetings today.  Yesterday we met with Playground installer, nothing is ever as easy as it seems it should be. Local government requires gravel and PVC pipe drain under playground, which is good, but  space is too narrow and may require a "special" design, which really means more $$$. Rather than going with a pre-approved design under another contract, we may have bid out the whole project.... Hopefully installer can work around issues and come up with a proposal that will meet our needs and satidfy our construction department.

Have a great day.

Mitch

CSXect:  Awesome!

Rock Island:  I always wonder about those man on the street interviews.  They always seem to find the morons that have no idea what the questions are about.  I guess it makes for good TV.  Everyone can't be that clueless.

Brutus:  Sorry to hear about Chewy.  Hope she's better.

Hats off to the members of our armed forces, past and present, whose ultimate sacrifice guarantee the freedoms we enjoy today, including forums like this.  I watched Leno tonight with those segments where he asks people on the street what should be elementary history questions.  Over 400,000 American servicepeople gave their lives in WW II, and the people on the street don't know where it was fought, by whom, or when.

Thats sad.

We had an old RCA console tv, record player and radio/8 track combo for many yearsand I replaced many diodes to keep it functional eventaly the pc boards themselves were deteriated well the copper on the boards anyway and became beyond my skill at the time to patch up. Thought about removing the tv guts and putting a newer tv in it but mom said it was time to update the living room. I like old wood radios had two but mom gave one to my brother when he got married at least I got the cool one with the electric eye on the dial.

Evening all!

Seems the weather is similar in numerous areas.   Just got in from a meeting and the drive home was through driving rain which gradually changed to snow and sleet.  The roads were just getting messy by the time I got back.

Ran some trains yesterday...3 at once on 2 loops under Legacy.  Now I understand why it's seemingly important to report " no pile-ups " after a running session.  It means that some of us can pay attention long enough to avoid accidents.  Not so here!  To me, there's something fascinating about the outcome of those accidents.  The look of a GS4 Daylight trying to climb under an N8 cabin gives me a kind of perverse thrill.  Muhahahaha!

Playing with the real old clunker TV's, one is reminded of what used to be the norm before the advent of chips and transistors and such.   Each change of the channel required that station to be manually tuned in...usually needing 3 or 4 adjustments of different knobs ( vertical hold, contrast, etc. ) before good reception happened.  Repair guys will tell you it takes a tube TV from the '40's or '50's a good 20 minutes to warm up before final adjustments can be made.

BTW.  I got that old Crosley I mentioned the other day.  A 55 year old TV that actually works...poorly, but it works!

Brutus looks like your weather is headed my way, just light rain at the moment, total of 83 pounds lost so far. I see tons of Pontiac cars in Columbus old and new they seem to be doing something right. Hope to be back to work around the 10th.

All the talk about cable and satalite tv reminds me of my first job out of colledge the first time around 1990. I worked for a local company who refurbished cable converter boxes and line equipment. Cable tv is very much like a computer network only the server is called the head end, I worked on warner, panisonic, jerold, scientific atlanta, texscan and a few other brands of converter boxes.

Doug - I got that email, too!  Wink [;)]  Nice gauge!

Sir James 1 - I'll be off tomorrow with the kids, maybe get some train time!?  I think we're going to batten down the hatches.  PS - Chewy is stressed, I think she ate something that didn't like her little tummy.  All evidence points that way, if you know what I mean....

Oh, I called a local LHS to find out their price on some track and they want nearly $10 per piece for gargraves phantom flex.  Uh, nope - that's like $4 to $5 more per piece than other stores and especially online.  They have good prices on Ross switches, though and a great selection of stuff, so I'll be back - just pay better attention next time for sure.

How about a "SawzAll", you could probably rent one for a day or two cheaper than buying. Course there is always a good excuse to buy a new tool. Hmmm wasn't there an e-mail going around not to long ago about new tools? Blush [:I]Wink [;)]

Laugh [(-D] - Roy, you always think outside the box, excellent idea!  I think I might try that, I can just see the garbage men trying to lift those outside yardwaste brown bags full of ice and snow - I think I could fill up about 10 of them if we get the predicted snow fall!

Jim,

Good to hear about your mom!

Jim and Jack - it is now sleeting, snowing, and raining all at once! I think I can use my mulching mower as it vacumms leaves real well. I can just run it over the driveway and sidewalk and use the leaf bag collect all the snow and then put it in trash bags for Thursdays pickup!

Mom's doing very well, thanks for asking Jack Smile [:)]

Roy - it's freezing rain and sleet right now around St. Louis and we are expecting 6 to 8 inches of snow overnight and tomorrow.  After the earlier storms, most of the speeders/4-wheel drive means immune to ice types have been weeded out and traffic continues to flow, although slowly.  Mrs. Brutus (Bruthilda?) has a birthday coming up at the end of the month and usually there is one more ice storm after her birthday or that same week.

Brent - this is the jigsaw I bought (I'm not sure it's the exact same model number, but this one looks exactly like the one I have) and it is a real winner.

Check it out Bosch Jigsaw!

Doug, I can't understand why half the little kids in school aren't dead with what they pass around and then bring home.

Brent, I get the leaves blowing toward the garage door too.  Wasn't a leaf in my yard after the last cleanup.....neighbors using leaf blowers must have blown all of theirs into my yard when I wasn't looking, and the kids & wife leave the garage door open so the leaves have a nice dry place to spend the winter.  Top soil for labor day?????  You really plan far in advance.  Try pelletized lime on the moss as part of an annual program....keeps it under control.  I get all of mine on the North side of the house.

Roy, just break out the snowblower.  Thanks for the news about the near air disaster.  Bet that's making John really comfortable about now as he's leaving on a trip tomorrow,

This is the one I am looking at: http://www.dewalt.com/us/products/tool_detail.asp?productID=8949 is this one you have?

Not sure what a 'bottom alignment bearing' is.

Brent,

As you know, there really is a big difference in jigsaw quality.  I finally broke down and got the dewalt (hey, it was still cheaper than the bosch).  Money well spent.  Whatever you do, get something with a bottom alignment bearing.  I have not be dissapointed in the least with my dewalt.

I think all the remaining reporters are on the phones calling us to vote for their candidate - man I love caller ID - we are not answering the phone from any number we do not recognize. Phone has been ringing all day today. They are taking a short break as they will resume when we sit down for dinner later.

Hey it is raining ice now! Buckeye - send the dogs - the ones with the whiskey casks aorund their necks!

Wow - incredible video on the NBC nightly news of a Lufthansa jet that got caught in 100 mph crosswinds on landing and somehow the pilot avoids a crash and pulls out - only scraping a wing. It appeared to me that the jet hovered and even went backwards for a moment. Check it out if you can - wow - scary. What a fantastic pilot!

Great! They'll probably all end up in front of my garage!

Every time we get a good wind storm the front of my garage gets inundated with a leaf pile about 2 feet deep. Takes about an hour to vacuum them up and bag them... Banged Head [banghead] I love Oak Trees, but man do they drop a boat load of leaves!

I do have a bit of clearing out to do this year. Lots of saplings and some dead trees that need to be cleared out, also have two large stumps that I have to get ground up.  Then maybe I'll have some screened top soil delivered around labor day so I can plant some grass and not have to worry about all this moss - yes I have a moss yard, not a grass yard.
