Good Morning

Sunny but cold. 40s till saturday.

Laz, your welcome. I enjoyed mine too. had enough left for a couple sandwichs next day.

I am waiting for an insurance man, got a call from a company saying they wanted to go over my policy. Translated that means after not hearing from them in nine years they are desperate for new business. Well tain,t gonna work. No train news, no trains run yesterday. Nice chat with Brutus, Doug and Charlie last nite. Charlie left saying gotta go, poopy diaper. Not sure if it was his or the babys :).

Have a great day...S.J.

Ole Timer

Bad news hit he neighborhood yesterday ... a teacher at my grand-daughter's school DIED from the swine flu ! She was a sweet highly devoted woman ... the pneumonia that anyone almost always gets with it did it . Children ... sad to say are dying in maryland and adults .... plus all over the country . Why they did'nt shut the borders from travel both ways is beyond me . What a failure by our government !  Disapprove

That is bad news. Unfortunately, we will hear more of this happening. How old was she? Was she vaccinated, since schools were suppose to get the vaccine first?

Afternoon guys

Lunchtime, had oats raisins and pumpkin seeds.  High fiber diet!

Thank you thank you thank you for your kind thoughts and prayers.  They help a lot!  My bride and I are at peace with our plan of tough love, i.e. let her fall, and not be the safety net we have been in the past.  We did more harm than good with the enabling routine.

My bride said I could have the basement for the next layout.  It will take a lot of work even before I even think about a plan.  It is less than ideal environment at this time.  It is just a hand dug basement laid up 100 years ago.  Water only comes in at one place but I can fix that.  The walls are ugly and the ceiling low 6’6” at bottom of joists 5’’8” at bottom of ductwork.  Starting to dream!!!!

Got to go.

May God bless

Jim

Good Afternoon!! YANKEES WIN!!!! TTHHHHEEE YANKEES WIN!! Thank you, thank you.  Up late watching the Series, good win for the Yanks!!  Man, I’m beat....Banged Head.  Dennis, did you watch? I DID notice that my Devils played the same 3 nights as the Yanks did and all the Devils wins led to Yankees wins...coincidence?  Nah, don’t believe it.Whistling  Thanks for the up lifting; I’m really at my last nerve.  There are times I wish she was 10 again.  I miss my daughter and those good times.Nobody said that parenting was for the weak.....Sigh  Doug, I should have typed PHL – yes, that is Philadelphia.  If the money is right, I stay in the company with the bennies & vacations.  And be 1 hour away from the Homeland.  Many miles to travel before I sleep....Sleepy  Speaking of car repairs – I’m dropping $300 on engine repairs that I can’t do in the driveway, and another $150 in tires.  And I told her not to buy it and if she did, I wouldn’t keep the maintenance on it.  So much for that Banged Head, like I have the money for this rice burner...Banged Head.  All this, I could be riding in my Daddy Wagon @ 15MPG (but really fast...!)  Angel for everyone.  Yep, I agree, with all the trials & tribulations, I think we’re all truly blessed.  And I thank GOD for all my friends here.  Well, gotta go to admin, they have an issue only I can fix (go figureSign - Dots).

Good morning all, went to lunch yesterday with two railroad friends I hadn't seen for a long while.  Picked up some avacados from one of the guys tree.  After that I went over to the house of the fiend who has the large HO gauge layout.  This is pure scale with fantastic scenery.  It operates like a real railroad with CTC and a train dispatcher position when they run.  He let me take a cab hop over the line and he acted as the dispatcher.  He has walk around controls that you take from one station to the next in order to be able to keep an eye on the train.  One thing I found out from him is that it seems to be a lot cheaper to upgrade conventional engines to Digital DCC than it is to go from conventional to DCS or TMCC in O gauge.  He says he can upgrade an engine for about $30 but he probably does the work himself I would guess.  An O gauge engine cost between $300 to $350 when you have to pay someone to do it.  How come O guage cost so much more?

Aloha all. Wow, picking an avocado from a tree. I pick them from a bin in the grocery store. Wink
Had a productive morning. Got the van checked out - always happy to get out of that garage without something major wrong. Got a power washer - to try to clean the deck - I think these are our last few days of semi-decent weather when I can do it. Saw the Menard's Lionel sets - C&NW passenger with trestle bridge for $219. They had Lionel Lines freight sets for $199. Visited HobbyTown USA - boy, is that place pricey. Picked up two 'tinplate' items at World Market of all places - a doubledecker bus and three wheel 'steam car' for the layout - for 50% off.  Also found three Hornby cars - a GW brake van, LE open wagon and GW flat. Can't wait to get 'em - though maybe I'll save them so I get something this Christmas Wink

Just a gentle caution about introducing political statements in discussions on the forums: please be sensitive to the variety and diversity that comprises the nation.  People have to travel, and since the disease is both mutable and transmissible between species, closing the border is not going to be anything more than a gross inconvenience, at best, to the general populace.  Remember, please, that the huge, overwhelming majority of adults and children of all nationalities, races, and ages, male or female, will only experience mild to moderate symptoms when they do get this flu...and they will...as will you. An unfortunate few, comparatively, will not do well, but you could say the same about 150 other common illnesses and conditions that afflict far more of us from year-to-year, and which result in far greater loss of lives.

Each year, more people die from whatever strain of seasonal flu manifests than have died so far, everywhere, from H1N1.  So, let's keep things in perspective and not bring 'the government' into problems that are largely, and within reason, being dealt with in a tempered and sober way.

It is always keenly regrettable when someone we know, or in whom we have high regard, succumbs in an untimely way as this teacher has.  It wasn't the government's fault.

Well we are about ready to punch the button. Will spend the night and some of tomorrow doing some pointing and extensive testing of the system.

Think I finally have everything in order for the surgery. Podiatrist needs letter from my doc clearing me medically for the surgery and anethesia. Sure seems like a lot of hoops this time. They hit me with radioactive isotopes and ran a speedometer cable into my heart a couple times w/o blinking an eye. Still, best to be thorough I guess.

Yes there is a lot going on within this group, but at least we stick together.  Thanks everybody for being there for everyone.

Good evening, it has been a pretty quiet day today with no phone calls from my Thursday night buddies for getting together tonight.  Everyone must be busy I guess.  Been running my new MTH woodsided passenger cars with the add on set today.  Observation car looks nice with an awning on the back and marker lights too.  Don't have the right engine yet but mean time I have been running the train with an SP Atlantic which is kind of a small steam engine but looks pretty good with those cars even if it is the wrong period.  What the heck!, it's a toy train.  Read an article in Classic Trains Magazine Winter issue about the Southern Railway PS4 #1401 in the Smithsonian in Washington.  Wish I hadn't sold my MTH version.  Maybe I can trade or buy another one and have it upgraded to proto 2.  You know what they say, "hindsight is 20/20".  Best wishes and prayers for all those who are facing medical problems.

Evening all.  OT, sorry for the loss of the teacher.  BTW: every now and then a cold wind from way up north blows through.  Does not know the players too well.  We just put on a jacket and keep on going. Whistling  Watching TV.  Had calls all morning [one lasted over an hour].  Neighbor and I did leaves this afternoon.  He used leaf blower and I used JD and "sucked" them up.  All on the garden to build up the soil.  More to fall.  Going to court with him tomorrow to be sure he is not "run over".  Later.

Good evening everyone.  Wow, what a day/week.  Been very busy with regard to work and family...mostly work.  Really sad note about Ft. Hood.  Have a friend who is a Colonel there, as is his wife.  He said they are fine, but his wife is very busy as she is over one of the hospitals there.  Will raise prayers tonight for them.

Jim, sorry to hear about your daughter.  Tough love is the way to go when other attempts have been made.  Our pastor just gave this message this past Sunday.  He was referring to folks who go against the Word, but I believe it is meant for all, family, friends, etc.

Bob, all patients are having to be screened, and if there is any history of heart issues, they must be cleared.  Even going for minor procedures...it is common practice.  I have actually had patients who had come in for a gall bladder operation, before even waking from the original surgery, they had a heart attack, got cathed, then we did bypass and they awoke in the CVICU.

Brent, I know you have been working hard on the addition, but that is no way to get out of work!  Anyway, glad you are safe and are on the mend.

Well, I have been busy with research for the next movie.  The announcement for the title and theme of the movie will be next Sunday, the 15th.  That is also when Mike Huckabee will be our guest preacher.  Tomorrow is the day for my mother's surgery.  Thanks for the prayers.  Also have been in an emotional situation in that one of our ministers from the church was at the hospital as his wife had a biopsy for a brain mass.  Turns out that it is a very aggressive cancer.  The emotional part of this is that when my son was two weeks old, he had stopped breathing.  While we were facing that challenge, and were not even members of a local church yet (had just moved to town), this minister was in my son's hospital room every day praying over him.

Sorry if I have missed anyone, it seems that the last few days have gone by too fast.  I had hoped to do some layout work this week, but alas, trains have been out of the picture.  I did make contact to get one of the latest Georgia Power car offerings.  I should have that car this weekend.

God Bless,
Dennis

Another crisp, sunny fall day here in Sedalia.  Supposed to be nice all weekend, too.  Actually looking forward to raking the rest of the leaves.

Had health screening today at work.  They decided I was still alive.

Stopped by the LHS on the way home.  Got to look through the new Williams catalog for a few minutes.  Owner says he will try to obtain a copy for me.  I noticed that the BL2 is still listed.  Several months back I called Williams service trying to get a spare shell for mine.  The reply was that the shells are not available.  Maybe I'll try again.  I'm wanting to paint a shell in non-prototypical, fictional, Katy Central colors.

There was one more subject I was going to comment on, but I can't remember it.  Must not be that important.  I know where to find y'all if I remember.

My thoughts are with those who are healing and dealing with other of life's problems.

 Later.

Dennis,

            Prayers on the way.

I had to work tonight, but I did manage to do more cleaning on the 302 and watch Planes, Trains, and Automobiles this afternoon. I really like that movie. I was going to buy a minty Flyer 342 on ebay for Christmas, but someone beat me to it. I'll never find one like it again. It had the wrapper, and supposedly it was only used one or two times at Christmas.

We we are off and running. Maybe things will calm down here a bit.

Just heard about the news from Ft. Hood. Very sad.

Dennis - I figured my recent soirees might have had something to do w/ all the extra fun. My docs office has been great about it. I think she was wondering mainly "what are they doing to you know?". Hey, you wanted me to see the podiatrist...

Prayers for your pastor's family.

Off to unwind w/ some train videos and then find a pillow. Not sure if I'm going to get used to this day shift stuff. Night all.

Dennis...realy looking forward to the movie announcement. You guys just keep outdoing yourselves so no doubt that this will also will be something very special! AND you get to hear Mike speak to boot!

Sorry to hear about everyone's health and family issues. Seems that the old saying "when it rains it pours" has some merit with you folks here. I know I don't post much but with all that I have been through health wise I can relate to what many of you are dealing with along with the parenting issues. Just wanted to say that prayers are going out for those here that need them! Please also remember those that gave their lives at Ft. Hood earlier today. Pretty sad when one cannot be safe on a military base!

 Hello all,

Brisk morning here, ice on the bridges. It's supposed to warm up tomorrow and Sunday.

Dennis prayers on the way for your friends and family as well as those at Fort Hood.

On the bid I submitted. 2.61 Million Dollars, I was 51,000 dollars high. Oh well.

Grandkids'll be at the house when I get home. We'll Run trains before supper. They're coming back in the morning, more running. After they leave I hope to get the chimney and furnace cleaned while it's nice. After that get the flowers dug and in the basement, that may be a Sunday afternoon project. Never did get the tractor put back together.

Prayers for all who may need them.

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 50s.  Dennis, sorry to hear the news about the minister's wife.  Sounds like a fine family from what you wrote.  Anticipating news of the next movie as I have enjoyed the others.  If there is a soccer theme to this one and you need a consultant...... :-)  Great news for the IRL yesterday with IZOD signing on as a title sponsor.  Could be just what they needed.  Terrible tragedy yesterday at Ft. Hood.  Son-in-law had been scheduled to be there this week for training.............   Not wanting to start a political discussion (except when it concerns the mayor of a certain NC town :-)), but when I got home yesterday, I saw on the news OUR president was addressing the American people on the situation.  Like the person or not, agree with the policies or not, I was impressed by his response to this incident.  It is times like this when we are all of one country.

Onto more mundane items.  I did weights, treadmill and soccer drills last night at the YMCA.  The "saucy wench" is a bit under the weather and so I did the workout first before eating leftovers.  It is easier exercising on an empty stomach :-)  I had bran muffins on the dining car before sending it to "Points East".  TBIL after "Numb3rs" tonight, but make sure there is lots of Old Mils on board.  I hope everyone (espcially those on the prayer request list) has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Thanks for the kind words and thoughts/prayers guys.  Will be waiting on the page from the surgeon up in NJ.  I am still on call, so I will have plenty to do today.  As I am writing this, I see that the unemployment has hit 10.2% for the nation.  While it is quite a bit higher here, I know it doesn't matter where you live, if you are out of work, it is painful.  Prayers for those folks as well.

God Bless,
