G'day Guys!

Things are just not the same 'round here without West Coast S Dave at this time of day. Last time we heard from him, there was no way he was going to miss our Oktoberfest - HA - he missed it! [swg]

Speaking of OKTORBERFEST
- BudKarr YOU ANSWERED THE QUIZ QUESTION CORRECTLY! [wow][yeah][tup][tup][tup]

We were suppposed to have a month of Saturday OKTOBERFESTS. None took place this past Saturday. BK You are the WINNAH! And have unrestricted use of the pool tables from 4-8 PM, Mon thru Wed. An alternative prize - all you can eat 'n drink during the same time frame. Your choice! [swg]

Nice Post, BK you coverered quite a bit of ground with that one.

Seems like we are "getting to ya!" Talk of Churchill and Toronto - my oh my, the "adventurer" is beginning to show his colors! (see BK's profile)

No plans from this end have been made for Churchill, although it remains as a trip I would dearly love to make; with my bride - solo - or with the boyz. Just haven't seriously put together an itinerary. Now Toronto is 'nother story. I am going to atttend - so we have two "absolutes," Rob and me. Others who have committed are: Al - Chris - and Ted.

By all means send me an email and we can get started on the discussion. Would love to have you join us. The Rendezvous in Toronto is ON! [tup]

Appreciate the thought regarding how to keep us "on top." Pretty much along my line of thinking. The rest is up to that small core of ours who keeps us going.

Thanx for the request for the Fallen Flag the New Haven is next up! [tup]

Appreciate your stopping by on this otherwise very slow Monday. Feast or famine as they say!

Catch y'all later (maybe). Tonight is make or break for my Cardinals. Taking nothing away from the Astros, but one team is hotter than the others, isn't that usually the case [?]. Congrats to the White Sox! Fantastic - four straight complete games - that's a first in the playoffs and perhaps even the regular season for a long, long time. Whoever faces them is going to have quite the uphill battle.

Okay - it's up to the rest of you to keep the dialogue going. I've done my part for the day - just check this page out (139).

Hello Again - I neglected to add that I think your quiz question involves the Oktoberfest. You had indicated there would be a festival each Saturday during the month. None this past. That is my offering.

Good Afternoon Gentlemen (using the time zone of the Proprietor),

Thank you Sir Nick for the photographs. Nicely done and they are appreciated. Have some vivid recollections of European and British rail experiences, but alas, I just do not archive them into photo albums. Regrets. Requests? The Swedish X2000 titling trains would be interesting to see on your Sunday photograph postings. Thank you.

Things are rather slow these days for me in my travels. The Scandanavian trip seemingly is a mere memory. The North Sea may be next - -perhaps Scotland. That would be agreeable as I have always enjoyed the people and their land. Trains? Well that probably could be arranged, depending on where my point of entry is to be. I generally fly into the major city, before being deposited ship board. Now that this cyber bar and restaurant has become part of my ritual, perhaps a train excursion is in order.

Nice Fallen Flag, Captain Tom - if I may refer to you that way. Oh yes - good day, Sir and I would prefer a frosty mug filled with Robert Burns Scottish Ale. Familiar with it? Nothing to eat, thank you.

Do you take requests for your Fallen Flags? If so, I would like to see the New Haven. As with your experiences, I had some interesting trips between DC and Boston and preferred them to any other at the time. This was circa early 60's.

I am guilty of being rather overly analytical in my reading, perhaps cause for some to take issue with my statements. Nevertheless, it would appear that you need not have a large following in order to keep this idea of yours at the top, as you put it. Just a few, submitting at intervals on a regular basis would do it. The occasional insomniac of course is appreciated, but not doing much for keeping the bar where you want it. Too much time between midnight and 6 AM with hardly any readers. Just thinking.

Next time I visit, I will provide some classic train information, which of course is why all of you are here.

Oh yes, Mr. Al passengerfan, you have asked for information regarding domes that did not appear on your list some pages back. I am not the Aficionado, as Tom puts it, but cannot for the life of me recall any roads that may have been omitted. ( I would suggest that an easier to read format might help.) Your dome information is comprehensive and something to dwell upon. That generally makes for good chances at being published, so I have heard. Good fortune.

I see that Tom and Rob have been discussing the Churchill run. That is something I would like to do. Alas, I would prefer to do this with the gentlemen, since at present there is no female in my life and to accompany couples would make me odd man out - never a good position. There is a possibility for my being back in Winnipeg late this fall, if that is what you are thinking. It would be a good opportunity to meet you both.

I have given considerable thought to your rendezvous in Toronto this May. Forgive me for not using email, but as I have indicated previously, that medium is restricted for business use and I am not an abuser of company time or resources. (This posting is on my laptop, using my private connectivity account.) As I was saying, I would entertain the trip, but would like some assurances that there will be other attendees before making arrangements. Tom, I will establish an email connection with you - and only you - to discuss this further if you are agreeable. Sorry if that sounds rather "007" to some of you, but I lead a rather "interesting" life. Each time I utter "retirement," they make it more lucritive for me to remain.

I had never before heard of or seen one of those Official Guides of the Railways until reading about them here. Lo and behold, two of my associates at work are railroad fans and they have issues for me to review. Amazing.

Time to sign off and I hope to be back before week's end.

Another brew, please.

Hi Guys!

A couple of thoughts - but first, a reply to Ted - good to see you up 'n about. Thought perhaps you were out of town, as we've become somewhat accustomed to a morning visit from you. Creatures of habit, we are NOT - but it's easy to lean that way. [swg]

Glad you appreciated the B&M - a great road for sure. My recollections are not as elaborate or extensive as others, but I did enjoy my experiences as a commuter. Used to travel the route betwen Melrose and Boston (North Station) quite regularly when I was assigned to a shore job in downtown back in the late 60's. I know I've chronicled some of those experiences before, but even if it is redundant info - those RDC's were enjoyable to travel aboard. Never tired of 'me. The Siren's Song of North Station still calls my name: Oh Toooooooooooom, Oh Tooooooooom, the Iron Horse Bar is calling you! Ah, the memories ....... [swg]

I have another "surprise" for you - stay tuned!

In light of what Ted has stated about cutting back on his availability to us, I've given some thought to the rather delicate state we find ourselves in lately.

Regulars at the bar? Not very many. Guys with a connection, over a dozen. Now, consider this:

West Coast S Dave is either on vacation - business - or has hitched a ride on one of those "leaning" trains he discussed and is somehwere in the high desert country. He is one of the "main stays" of this thread, especially during the afternoons in all time zones but his.

earlydiesels Dan is recovering from pneumonia. Always good for a Post a day, almost.

CFournier is out - last report was ill and also tending to his son who suffered a broken leg playing hockey. Used to check in perhaps three times per week\, hardly ever on weekends.

coalminer3 CM3 is back and can be relied upon for one Post a day, in the morning - but no weekends.

pwolfe Pete is gone for the week. Another "main stay" for late afternoon and evening Posts.

wrwatkins, our one-way Poster, is busy, busy, busy. Never know when or where he'll Post again or from. Don't recall any weekend Posting when "state side."

passengerfan Al and Trainnut484 Russell - School days (daze)! Both used to be quite regular, but we can't say that right now.

barndad Doug Surprises us when we need him the most! Good for Sunday.

Gunns Kevin No idea when he'll Post, but when he does, it's appreciated.

BudKarr Never did "declare" him a regular, but in comparison with many others, he surely is. Just don't know when we'll see him.

Lordhawke Jeff Long gone, after a great couple of weeks.

Now, the remainder of our group are the regulars , 7 days a week, and we really should try to stick to a time frame that can fit into two considerations: Yours and the bar.

I'd like to see our Posts made between 6 AM and midnight. Even if only one guy makes one Post per day, it will help us if they are spaced out in order to keep the thread up on the page.

Take a look at the SUMMARIES - check out who is Posting and what times they are being made. Check the "gaps." My "numbers" are way up and I'd like to reduce them too, probably will if I see that I'm the only one Posting during these loooooong late mornings and afternoons. Makes no sense to keep on with the Fallen Flags and Nostalgia Posts if they won't be observed by other than a handful.

Okay guys, now that you've suffered along with me, Boris ring that bell and give 'em all a drink on the house! [swg] Drop a few quarters in the Juke, it's time for some "City of New Orleans" - play 'em both - Willie and Arlo. [yeah] Some Johnny Cash and the "Orange Blossom Special" will be good too. Anything else on that box with railroadin' in it deserves to be heard.

QUIZ What was missing this past Saturday [?] C'mon, just T-H-I-N-K about it a bit, and perhaps a comparison with previous Saturday's will flick your switch. Prize [?] Hmmmmmm, a week night with one of Boris' dolls! Nah - he'd be most unhappy about that; doesn't share very well. Okay - I got it - the WINNAH gets unrestricted pool table use between the hours of 4 and 8 PM on Mon thru Wed. I hear that Chrissy likes shooting pool at those times. [}:)][:-,]

Catch ya later!

Tom,, no clue on the "missing clue" quiz. I think I'll go with the Crown and soda thing today.[^] Finally, cooler weather has made it to Tampa Bay area.[tup] Now that I can work in the garage without fear of heat stroke, I'll be a tad less frequent on the Forum. Arm chairing is all well and good but "the real thing" takes us from Monday morning Q-backing to a learning experience. [swg] Sunday's photo ops was a sucess and let's plan ahead for many more. Ah yes, the Boston and Maine. That was a standout feature for the Summer Stock season I worked at the North Shore Music Theater in Beverly, MA. That was 1957 and the R.D.C.'s were running good schedules on the North Shore. Good pick Tom[tup] Thanks for th "Monster" Nick. Now, just what is it?[:O] If it does, indeed, run on rails, it would've won the "ugy duckling" hands down.[8] Right, I always get a kick out of the Victorian era train drivers and street car motorman posing for the wet plates. Often they pose with throttle in hand.

Good story CM3, sounds like your Father had one fine Honeymoon. My own Honeymoon was focused on rail as much as possible. Durango and Chamas, Colorado were among the "must" stop overs. I planned it so Carol hardly detected the underlying plot of train watching. I planned the highway routes for maximum ROW along A.T.S.F., U.P. and W.P. mainlines. Of course, the jig was up when over 4 rolls of film were dominated by trains.[:-^] Rob, I hope "snail mail" reaches you before long. Take your time, there is no rush and I thank you in advance. I suppose it is incredulous to some that prudent fiscal choices on a "fixed" retirement income are a necessity. All too often, the situation is "either, or" and rarely "the whole Enchilada."[V]

Gunns, that shot looks suspiciously like an arial of a span Xing irrigation channel in your "neck of the woods?" Alburquerque has so many of those elaborate flood canals and they are impressive. One of the most striking scenes on my trip (1998) was the city lights from a distant ridge before dawn on my way to Santa Fe, N.M. The ballons, of course, are a world-class event too. Santa Fe is quite a atrists/tourist area and a "high dollar" retreat if there ever was one.[;)]

Boris CLANG Okay, this round is on me. I was going to ask you for the newspaper.[:(!] Happy rails and please know that I may not be on-line as often. First, I want to see what Wilma decides to do in the Gulf of Mexico. [:O] Not again![banghead]

Morning CM3

Figured you'd appreciate the B&M! [tup] Stayed tuned, there will be some others comin' at ya for the New England area, but not all at once. Kinda like that "film at 11" stuff that we used to hear on early TV. [swg]

Such a shame that the routes between Boston and Canadian destinations were discontinued. Man oh man how nice that would be, especially with family and friends in Halifax. Oh well ......... [:(]

The rule of thumb 'round here regarding Posts, is bring 'em on! Just as long as they concern steel wheels on steel tracks, the length of the Epistle matters not! Go for it. [tup]

Appreciate, as always, the round and quarters for the Juke!Q [tup]

Chicken wire [?], not in this upscale bar! You MUST have us confused with another place in another time! [swg] Rowdy yes, live entertainment - nope - unless one considers the antics of Boris and the track gang pool tournaments in that aspect. [swg]

Thought for sure we'd be beating to death that GN info exchange, but not so. Good for us to have that kinda dialogue and there surely will be more. Once Al gets going with those Domes, well .......... [;)]

Catch ya later!

Good Morning All: Coffee for me, round for the house, and quarters for the jukebox. We'll put some Kentucky Headhunters on this a.m. to get us going.

I think I saw some interior shots of "Our Place" the other night on CMT. Toby Keith's tune, "I Love This Bar" was probably taped on location; the chicken wire around the stage and the crowd shots were dead giveaways.

A handful of comments on previous posts. Passengerfan - thanks for the info. on the different types of dome cars. Also the GN folks at the bar will appreciate looking at Railroad History No. 143, which is a 160+ issue on Rocky's Road, produced in 1980. The remarks abt. GN 2-8-2s stirred something in what's left of my memory: Baldwin built 145 2-8-2s for the GN between 1911 and 1919. They also blt. some more in 1920 which were truly brutal looking (in the best sense of the word). GN followed C&O practice and hung everything on the front of these. Also, IIRC, GN r/b some 2-6-2s into 2-8-2s; I'll check into this, but I think I am correct here. One last thing I sort of remember is that they converted some Baldwin switchers into cabeese - that had to be an interesting shop project. The GN has a lot of devotees and they are truly passionate about the road.

I appreciate the kind words, but I am (as of right now) definitely not on the disabled list. My remark abt. the EMTs was directly from a friend who "are one." They have a different takes on the world which reminds me of many of my friends who are involved with mine rescue. BTW, one of the local TV stations had coverage of Bridge Day - the BASE jumpers can have it - it's too far down for me. Last to Our Esteemed Proprietor - I begged permission to post a fairly long piece on the Boston subway. I believe you gave me an O.K., but I don't think it got posted. As I said, what did I say?

Now for the Boston and Maine. It seems I write a lot abt this, but it did have a charm all its own. Herewith something form my father's memory book. He and my mom got married in WWII, when, of course, travel was restricted. They did, however, manage to get some tickets to go from Boston to Montreal then onto Quebec City and return. They had reservations in the parlor/buffet/lounge which ran on the Alouette at that time. All went well until they got to Quebec when they found they had been kicked out of their hotel. Nobody could or would tell them why. It turned out that that was when the Quebec Conference was going on. Anyway, he said that he spent a lot of the trip on the rear platform admiring the scenery. IIRC, there is a shot of one of these cars in Steam, Steel and Limiteds.

One quick comment on the routings in the Fallen Flags post. The rotland Division operated between Boston and Portland via Dover, NH. Those of us at UNH "in the day" have fond memories of trips to and from Dover - good training for later years, I think. B&M did go to Dover, MA also which was and still is a definitely UPSCALE suburb on the North Shore, associated with Ayer family, who, in turn were associated wioth George S. Patton.

work safe

Mornin' Nick

Nice to see ya so early (over here!). Help yourself to the coffee and pastries from The Mentor Village Bakery! [tup]

I can understand the mind set when it comes to the comparative sizes of virtually everything on this side of the pond in comparison with where you are. The vast distances made it so in most cases. Topography factored in along with some sense of "bigger is better," would be my guess.

I'm unfamiliar with those naems you dropped - perhaps the guys can comment.

Glad you enjoyed it! I think this one will be an hit with CM3.

Catch ya later!

Mornin` [4:-)]TOM,how we lookin ?-Think I`ve sussed this time zone thing,I`m just 1 meal out of synch with the rest of you-see,easy [^]--Nice to see the B+M up on the board,a `manageable size` road to my Brit perceptions, find it difficult to relate to some of these `mega` size outfits-to much to try and visualise. Love the B+M liveries, both red/gold & blue/white/black. Some nice models about as well-Mike Hamer,Paul Dolkos & Carlo Orciari spring to mind plus of course the `benchmark` photography of Phillip Hastings. As if that wasn`t enough a link to the C.N through the Central Vermont (or Marty McGuirk`s Southern New England-whatever happened to that layout..?..E.Mail to editor Terry I think ). Ooooooooops! Sorry - just recalled that I haven't acknowledged the Posts from passengerfan Al and barndad Doug.

Even though we're CLOSED ON SUNDAY's the Posting of information was never meant to be restricted. The idea is to give the day "off' for however many of us like to do other things on Sunday.

Enjoyed your additional pix, Doug. Perhaps one day I'll get to visit that museum site that occupies so much of your time, attention and talents. [tup]

Thanx for the continuing font of wisdom regarding Domes, Al. Never met a dome you didn't like, would be my guess! [swg]

BK and Ted Glad you two have worked out whatever that was all about! <grin>

Okay - this time, I'm outta here ......

Evenin' Nick

Saw your Inclusive Post and thought I'd respond ...

Your contributions to our Sunday Photo Posting Day! are always right on the mark! Thanx. [tup] Trains, trains and more trains, irrespective of size, shape and form, that's us! [swg]

My guess is that the PE is now at it's designed limit for hauling. The loco is metal, whereas the tender and cars are plastic. The consist is relatively light. I haven't noticed any difference in the throttle setting on the transformer with the addition of those two cars - seems to be operating as it was. The Lionel provided transformer has done well (thus far), although there have been some horror stories Posted on the forums regarding failures.

A subway system [?] Don't laugh, I have entertained the notion, but NOT within the duct work. I'm thinking of something that would wind it's way beneath the Can-Am. [yeah] As a former "strap hanger" from NYC, I've seen some great replicas of subways cars, but all modern. I came VERY close to purchasing an O-gauge three car set a few years ago, but backed out. This was before construction of the Can-Am. I was thinking "shelf" back then, but for the family room! Now that there's a bona fide train room and a "place" for it, maybe, just maybe ...... [swg]

Sorry, no cigar regarding the QUIZ question! At least you NOTICED there IS a QUIZ! [tup]

Regarding the "wedding" of our cloven footed friend, Boris and one of the "matched pair" from Ooooompah Land. Stay tuned, the Can-Am County Attorney General is looking into the legaility of pairing the likes of these two. They are dusting off some rather archaic statutes of law to determine whether "almost human" qualifies for marriage in this jurisdiction. It ain't over 'til it's over, but don't buy any wedding gifts just yet. [swg]

Have a good night and see ya Monday one and all!

Just `refresheshed`-AL thanks for `heads up` on the dome car,as previously noted,www.onrgallery.com will drop you right in there-what a history, that car has seen more travels than the Flying Dutchman of legend-You should get in touch with the O.N.R group-I suspect you know more about their equipment than they do,Frank Volhardt would be well worth seeking out as he seems to have an equivalent encyclopaedic volume of esoteric information to yourself and may be able to fill in any gaps you have (or vice-versa ).... MANAGER TED-now is that ugly or what ?-I mean it must be an engine,It`s got rails under it but for goodness sake-what bits are where, what does what-and how..or even why...?..and those marvellous Victorian gentlemen look so proud of it-a simpler age when anything was possible....................[C=:-)]

Evenin` All-First up quiz-would it be the pic of `Our Place`thats missing ?,difficult to tell as my screen is currently changing format every few seconds, turning the whole thing into some kind of `60`s pop-art weirdness-hey DOUG-youve got steam up on your switcher logo-neat trick [^]-mystery car looks suspiciously like the last `Our Place` charter (what a weekend...just wish I could remember it ). Incredible collection,HUGE respect for you guys that have the vision, willpower & energy to put this stuff back together. In this country, railways just linked up what was already there-over there they opened up the country and as such deserve a far greater recognition as part of the national heritage. Folks like Yourself,GUNNS,ROB & DAN are engaged in more important work than you realise.....keep it up my friend [tup] BK -more than happy to track down any pix you might wi***o see or have to illustrate a submission, although can`t promise speedy response see above French (colour) & Spanish (B+W) T.G.V`s-still looking for pendolino`s & D.R. steam-stay with us,if they are out there,I`ll get `em mate !! By the by-thanks for kind words R.E layout-very much a work in progress ,as previously noted-as much of the pleasure is in the journey as the destination-no real interest in rivet-counting perfection, but happy to make it as good as my skills, time & funds allow-a philosophy that I suspect others of us subscribe to. [4:-)]TOM- Nice to see the `High Line` again-Is that now a 5 car set ?-what is the upper limit for those Lionel locos to haul ?-Imagine with all those car lights the power consumption must be pretty fierce--since You`ve run out of space for new layouts-how about a subway system inside the ductwork with which you had such an unpleasant encounter [}:)] MANAGER TED-likewise,a welcome re-visit-looking forward to updates-this time with some trains in [swg]-if they are as good as the structure modelling, it will be a treat indeed [tup] CHANDLER ROB-what a little sweetie of a car-for one of those I`m sure I can fit in an extra run of track somewhere-thanks also for bringing TEDS work back into the public gaze. O.K-on to my own submissions-the second batch requires little further explanation other than the Landore shed selection-This was formerly the principal Great Western Rly shed in Swansea, mentioned in PETE`s rail trip tale. By the time these shots were taken (through a carriage window on a grey, wet, classically Welsh day) the site was reduced to handling Royal Mail dedicated stock only. Since then the Royal Mail service has been discontinued and the site appears to be mothballed, although limited use for overnight stabling of Inter-City 125`s is a possibility.--N.B-lower right shot shows B.R. `corporate` blue & white referred to yesterday. As to the first batch,a rather fuller explanation is called for--1--the "impossibly narrow"bridge at the yard throat-bear in mind that the track is only 2`3" gauge, 2-- engine #4 Edward Thomas simmering in the wharf stn yard, 3+4-- coaches, including original 1864 stock, wharf stn, 5-- engine #5 Midlander in Pendre yard, 6-- ex G.V.T 1st class saloon ( see pic of `Sir Theodore`,posted last sunday ) , 7-- my all time favourite pic-the grand old dame herself,-#1,Tal-Y-Lyn pulling into the loop at Abergynolwyn, 8-- engine #2 Dolgoch on the headshunt at Pendre, 9--engine #7 Tom Rolt (plus degenerate hippy scribe) at Nant Gwernol, 10--Tal-Y-Lyn again,at Brynglas, 11--see 9, 12--#4 Edward Thomas At Nant Gwernol. In my eagerness to post these,I neglected to put them in any sort of order, apologies for confusing end result,enjoy.....!!-Any requests for next sunday will be supplied if possible. have a good week everybody, speak soon,nick[C=:-)]

Entertainment has been for those eager to be entertained, no? I welcome the cerebral as well as tactile at any time. BK, your "cerebral" contributions are as honored as any other input and perhaps, more so. Please do not find offense where there is none. Looking forward to your insightful thoughts, whether it be Sunday or on Boris' Birthday.[:D] Be of good cheer mon ami. Happy rails

Good Afternoon everyone and thanks for the dome picture. That particular car is rather interesting. It is now numbered 900 for the ONR. It began life as a smooth side full dome for the Milwaukee Road delivered by P?S in December 1952 as there number 57. It was operated in the OLYMPIAN HIAWATHA between Chicago and Seattle/Tacoma originally later operated in the AFTERNOON and MORNING HIAWATHAS between Chicago and Minneapolis. Sold to Amtrak in 1971 becoming their 9381. It was then sold to a private owner in Portland Oregon and named the SILVER GARDEN for conversion to a restaurant in Portland, Oregon. Fortunately the car was never converted to a restaurant and was resold to another private owner in 1985 becoming the WARSAS EXPRESS at that time. In 1991 it was sold to Westours and became their number 557 for service in Alaska summers.
In 1994 the car was sold to Transisco Tours and was resold to Washington Central in 1997 and while under their ownership it had the fluted stainless panels added fo give it the appearnace of a stainless steel car. Thank goodness the car already operated on six wheel trucks as I.m sure this added a lot of weight to an already heavy car. It was sold to The BCOL and was named Stardust for service between North Vancouver and Prince George but lasted only a few months in this service before that operation was shut down. In 2004 it was sold to its present owner Ontario Northland Railway.
The ONR owns two additional dome cars one a former Santa Fe pleasure dome 500 now numbered ONR 902. This car was sold to Amtrak in 1971 becoming their number 9350 and and in 1993 went to Transisco Tours becoming their TEXAN and was sold to Washington Central in 1997 becoming their 153. It went to the BCOL as their 153 TWILIGHT and now is the property of the ONR.
The other ONR dome traces its origin to the California Zephyr and was built as Western Pacific 812 SILVER FEATHER a Vista-dome Coach. In 1981 the car was sold to Auto-Train becoming their number 461. In 1993 it was purchased at Auction by the Texas Southern. The Washington Central purchased the car in 1997 and numbered it 151. It was converted into a dining car by the WCRC for its dinner train operations. It was transferred to BCOL ownership with the number 151 and the name MOONGLOW was added. At the present time it is not being used by the ONR so it probably is going to become a spare car.

Here's another pic of my mystery car. It's been totally gutted by fire, and is absolutely empty inside. I could see no markings on the exterior to help me identify it.

This car resides in the back portion of IRM property, but it's easily seen. Even further back on our property are 4 more lines of cars which few people ever visit

...and then there are 2 more lines even further South

Believe it or not, there is more property not shown which is currently being groomed, and track is being added to expand the existing layout.
Heyyyyy ... Cards are looking good in the 4th!

Barndad, the # 2 pic: a badly disfigured car, as if from the "Wax Museum," appears to be a standard 70' passenger car. From the upper window panes being (apparantly) done over with sheet metal, it could be nearly any Road's "re-shop.". I will guess A.T.S.F.! Do you have another shot? Shot #1: those are North Shore trucks, wrong? And that Line had many variations within the #200 series, right? Okay, more questions than answers...I'll guess ATSF and North Shore "clones."

Gentleman Theodorebear,

It appears I have somehow tweaked your sensitivites with my commentary.

A partial quote from last Sunday:
QUOTE: BudKarr Posted: 09 Oct 2005, 18:16:58 Quote

I should explain that my interests do not necessarily center on railroads. However, I do appreciate riding them and looking at the photographs. My activities preculde my being able to hobby them and although I am capable with a camera, I regret that my inventory does not include anything of worth for viewing by this esteemed gathering.

Therefore I shall not be engaging in your proposed exchange. I will continue to marvel at the efforts those of you, including you, put forth for the entertainment of all.

A joust on Sunday is unncessary, would not you concur?

Hello to BK, Ted and Doug

Appreciate your logging on this fine day! Doug nice guess - but nope! [tdn] The QUIZ remains unsolved! [swg]

Doug My guess is Rob will "jump" to your question with the answer! [tup] What in the world happened to the car in the 2nd pix [?] Just the ravages of neglect and time, perhaps [?] Hate to see 'em like that. Thankfully, there are people like you who bring 'em back. [tup]

BK That's an interesting posit and I fully concur with the premise: one reaps what they sow in this world. Setting sights too low, will miss the target every time. It goes on and on .... [swg] Thanx for the kind words.

Ted Neat-o, for your work!

Catch ya later! Enjoy the pix to come ......

Sage remarks BK! Anything in the offing? Remarkable from the observer, yet lacking in participation? Looking forward to "singular" contributions in the near future, albeit not from a professional site but, of course, your own hand.[:-^]

First of all, my quiz answer is The Saturday Summaries itemized posting list.

And now for something completely different! In reference to equipment questions by Rob, we have no Kulhman cars at IRM. Of the Chicago Elgin and Aurora flavor cars, we have:
#308 Niles 1906
#309 Hicks Car & Locoworks 1908
#321 Jewett Car Co. 1914 and
#431 Cincinnati Car Co. 1927
Here's a pic of our #308 and #309?

Now here's a pic of a car I know nothing about. Can someone identify it?

Tom, your basement layouts are absolutely incredible!

Gentlemen of the bar!

Although you are officially closed, please allow me to make commentary on the fine efforts put forth this day by Msrs. Rob and Tom on behalf of Ted and Nick. I am curiously bewildered why it is that an intermediary is required for the posting of pictures. However, mine is not to reason why. Thank you for the entertaininment.

Tom, you have quite an imagination with that system you constructed. I visited your album and you have achieved a great deal with the three different scales in your basement. I can see how this hobby of yours can become quite the addictiony. When done well, as Ted and Nick have, there must be a great deal of satisfaction that goes along with it. Or are you creative people never satisfied with your work? Now, that I can understand. Striving for anything less than perfection earns one what they deserve.

Good day and thank you again.

G’day Mates!

Some responses are in order, but remember – We are CLOSED on SUNDAYS! However, it IS Sunday Photo Posting Day! [yeah]

trolleyboy Rob Posted: 16 Oct 2005, 00:04:32, Posted: 16 Oct5 2005, 00:24:09, Posted: 16 Oct 2005, 00:33:05

Hi Rob – Yes, I’m familiar with that Amtrak/VIA Rail route. Last time I checked, there was considerable consternation over the discontinuance of the VIA portion of the route and I seem to recall that a reinstitution was going to be made – however, it was hardly “friendly” insofar as the scheduling was concerned. Again, I’m not certain about that … will put it on my “list” of things to check out. The only possibility for me getting to the Rendezvous in Toronto by train would be along the “corridor.” That’s why I inquired about the Windsor Station and transportation from Detroit. Flying direct to Toronto saves a lot of nonsense – and probably would wind up costing about the same overall. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Regarding that wedding, which seems to be accelerating along – better be ready for the Can-Am County to intercede and put a stop to it. The matter is being researched now, and from preliminary reports, there’s no way the County government will grant the license to these two, given the genetic history and makeup of one cloven footed “being” who goes by the name of Boris. More to follow …..

I could honestly give a Rat’s Patoot if Amtrak sells of the NE Corridor. All I want to see in this country is a modern, safe, reliable and cost effective passenger rail system. That’s all [?] <geesh> I’d have better luck wishing for the moon to turn purple.

Nice shot of that blue trolley! [tup]

Good work, Ted! I can “see” Kansas City and Union Station in your efforts. [tup][tup]

Okay, guys – let’s settle into our day of rest and enjoy the pix! [tup][tup][tup]
