Hey Nick!

Just check out the guys who made appearances throughout the day and I'd say you've had quite a turnout - given it is a work day for many! Good show by one and all![tup][tup][tup]

Nick my man, check out whenever you like - we understand the time difference and tomorrow, after all, IS another day![tup] Glad things worked out for ya . . . .

Party on, Boyz - bars "open" - food in abundance - band is rockin' - place is jumpin' - what more is there[?] Ohhhhhhhhhhhh, yeah - that - well, we have "that" too![swg]

Sir Nick [C=:-)] You wouldn't be trying to lead Moi astray now wudja[?] One more time in life would be . . . . well, probably the last time![swg] However, here in cyber space - why not[?] Let's do it![tup]

Who in blue blazes let those Teutonic bimbos in here[?] Where's that bottle of Jack when I need it[?] Now that's Leon on the congas, right[?] Right now I couldn't carry a beat in a basket!<grin>

Seems like the party is pickin' up momentum - so it should be "safe" for me to take my leave without anyone noticing. Cindy will keep the bar open for as long as there's someone standing - or so she says!<right!> Doesn't appear that Leon the Night Man! will be any help . . . . Still would like to know what the "deal" is with all those "centerfolds" with the flypaper sticky stuff on 'em .... gross!<ugh> BUT rather interesting placment ....... hmmmmmmm.[:O]

Enjoy the night, Gents! Glad you're back Nick - it's YOUR showcase - go fer it![tup]

Well then, caught up with myself at last-So where was I-Oh yes...........................LADIES AND GENTLEMEN,HONOURED GUESTS,LOWER ORDER MENIALS,MUSICIANS AND OF COURSE BORIS.......May I take this opportunity to thank you ALL for taking time to stop in and wish me well.
I`m particularly touched since,as the only member of this group not resident in the cont. U.S and also being under-informed about N.American trains, both classic and otherwise and, like most Brits,America in general, I`ve always felt slightly fraudulant contributing to what is,after all, supposed to be a topic-driven thread.
However, the warmth of your good wishes convinces me that this place is somewhat more than the sum of it`s parts-At risk of getting to philosophical, its a common denominator-an `environment` where people from a vide variety of backgrounds, upbrinings & lifestyles can communicate without being obstructed by pre-conceptions or received wisdoms
Whooa-just read that back-who`s been messing with my tobacco ??
O.K-I can hear the boys tuning up out back-right Leon, you`re in charge,[4:-)][oX)]TOM`s coming with me-Oh sorry, did I forget to mention-I`ve got you down for congas & assd. percussion during the latin shuffle numbers in the first set--You can blame SIR THEODORE "Fast Eddy" KRAMER (bass trombone & musical director)-He was adamant that we couldn`t perform without you [swg]
Well H+H`s buffet looks to be thier finest ever work-lets go and work up an appetite---------right boys-whats the first song,we normally kick off with " I will follow" by U2,but given the current public unrest around the village, perhaps not.........
AH!-All over now by the Womacks-a nice slinky groove with lots of space for the perc. & horns, then straight into "Well Well Well/Coalsville Institute" by Michelle Shocked and T-Bone Shuffle, let Simon stretch his fingers a little--right boys-lets do it <CLANG>

Hello Nick! wherever you are!! [bday][bday][bday][bday]

What in H was THAT post from 20 Fingers! Good Grief Charlie Brown - a NYC Post for the B'day Bash!! [wow] Wonder what HE's been drinking[?] I'll have a double![swg]

Good stuff so far - aside from above - and from the sounds coming out of the back room, the band has the place rockin' - those guys look like a bunch of bikers who are "angry" at something or someone! Boris is beginning to get that "Cyclops" look about him - ever notice how those eyes converge to the center of that sloping forehead of his[?] Better make that a double, Tom!![swg]

I'll just meander on back to the pool room and . . . ommmigawd - didja catch that babe in the halter top[?] Of course I'd love to, my de-ah![swg]

Good Afternoon I have been under the weather since Friday and wll try to find a suitable Passengerfan Al's Streamliner corner. Happy Birthday Nick. Tome guess the least I should do is buy a rounf tor the house. I won't be taking part this day but maybe tomorrow or the day after.

PASSENGERFAN AL'S STREAMLINER CORNER #71

SOUTHWESTERN LIMITED NYC Trains 11-311/12-312 July 15, 1949 New York – St. Louis daily each direction 881 miles 22 hours 30 minutes

The New York Central System introduced another stainless steel full service lightweight streamlined train the SOUTHWESTERN LIMITED on July 10, 1949. This train was a New York City to St. Louis train with a connecting section between Boston and Albany. The new lightweight streamlined SOUTHWESTERN LIMITED replaced an earlier train of this name that was comprised of both heavyweight and lightweight equipment. The 22-hour schedule of the SOUTHWESTERN LIMITED required three sets of equipment to maintain daily service. The New York Central route was much longer than the B&O or PRR routes between New York City and St. Louis. The PRR all Pullman SPIRIT OF ST. LOUIS and all Coach JEFFERSONIAN were both scheduled for twenty hours between terminals. The B&O operated the NATIONAL LIMITED between Baltimore and St. Louis this train primarily drew its passengers from the Washington area. The NATIONAL LIMITED was a full service train offering Coaches and Pullmans although at one time it had been an all-Pullman train, as had the SOUTHWESTERN LIMITED at one time. Even though the SOUTHWESTERN LIMITED wasn’t all Pullman it was a fine stainless steel streamliner by any ones calculations. Cars assigned to the SOUTHWESTERN LIMITED were the same as those operated in the OHIO STATE LIMITED and NEW ENGLAND STATES. The one difference between the SOUTHWESTERN LIMITED and the other two full service Budd built streamlined trains was in the 5 Double Bedroom Buffet 25 seat Lounge Observations. The three built for assignment to the SOUTHWESTERN LIMITED were fitted with large picture windows around the Lounge area of the Observation almost identical to the Pullman Standard built cars for the 20TH CENTURY LIMITED. The three Sleeper Lounge Observations built for the SOUTHWESTERN LIMITED were SINGING BROOK, SUNRISE BROOK, and WINGATE BROOK.

O.K-Pix:-
ROB-Nice touch with the before and afters-bet that shot from 1925 would look pretty different now....
Now that trackwork one-wouldn`t fancy trying that full size or scaled down-Are you planning anything like that for your Trolley section?
DOUG-First of all-love those musician smilies-going to drive me crazy now working out who they all are [^]
Excellent `mixed bag` for us this week-those early cars just oozed atmosphere [tup]-particularly liked the horse on the tail platform.
Nice contrast in Lima products-that Shay is a wonderfully perverse example of the genre....[^][^]
The streamliners still look futuristic to me-wonderful fusion of form & function
Glad you noticed the best china-will endeavour to use it more often-as long as Boris isn`t washing up...
SIR THEODORE-Delighted you could make it [tup][^][tup]-enjoying the latest installment from Southern Territory
Full marks for rendering your friend that final service-dignity always important, hope it hasn`t left you too drained.
[4:-)][oX)]TOM-first,loved the jokes-a fair spread and all on the mark [tup][^][tup]-Officer assessments should be visualised as delivered in a poker-up-the-pole Brit accent, reeking of (very)old money and in-bred stupidity [swg]
now those pix-those P.G.E locos are graceful little beasts-as a modelling project, the detail differences would make them all worth building for a nice little base to a stud for a smallish pike..[tup]-I guess there are enough 2-8-0 models out there to make it plauseable-topic for P/P day on Weds.perhaps ?
Nice contrast on the C&EI locos-bet that high-steppin` Atlantic was quite the very thing back in the day [tup]
LARS-Ringing the changes with some infrastructure-nice selection of depots (& map[tup])-some fierce railroading once you get that far north-good one !
CM3--That interview-I knew it would come back to haunt me [swg]-In truth,I had been plied with free beer all night and with spooky presciense you have captured my likely responses almost verbatim, editing out only the almost Tourette like profanity and innuendo for the protection of delicate sensibilities
Right better get this posted, back in a bit,n[C=:-)]

Ah, Peter m'lad!

Was wonderin' if you'd make it through that "Phantom Window" and join us![tup][tup] All the drinks are on the house today - however, anyone wishing to buy a round may do so - the money will just go into the "kitty!"[yeah]

There was an interesting article about Spitfires in today's CBC - but it's gone-zo ... I'll Post the URL if it shows up again.

One of the problems encountered by some 'puters on the Forums with the "big" pages has to do with the amount of graphics being downloaded. Depending on what kind of software one is running and other factors (memory, etc.) one's 'puter may simply not be able to handle it all quite the same way. Perhaps you should get "the boss" to show you how to do some basic "cleaning" and once things like the "cache" and assorted other places where "temp" files reside can be purged, your situation MAY improve. No guarantee, mind you, as all of these gadgets don't quite handle the situation the same way.

Love that story about the sailor . . . Probably something I would have said as a young man![swg][tup]

Enjoy the Bash!

G'day!

Tweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet! Tweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet! Rules Violation! Rules Violation! Rule #17 - falsifying a Tweeting when a Tweeting never occurred! Okay, barndad Doug that's IT - you get to take care of Tex AND Awk for the remainder of the Bash!

Now, the Post that you deleted had already been responded to - so the Post "counts" and is in tomorrow's Summary. Otherwise, I'd have to delete my reply, thereby causing a reaction perhaps never anticipated here in cyber space, you know, something like that giant sucking sound heard when a tub empties! Our entire 'core' could be swallowed downwards into a spiraling abyss, never to be see or heard from again! And it's all because YOU deleted a Post that had been responded to! There, now see what you done did[?]<huh> Now, where did I put that bottle of Jack[?][?]

Hi Tom and all.

A pitcher of Bathams please if it survived last night.

Great bash going on for[C=:-)] NICK's[bday] party. The band are really buzzing and the day is young [wow][yeah].

I think the fumes from last nights unofficial party have got into the puter as the pages on the site have gone real big and having to go from side to side to read it, tried to correct it and logged out [D)]. I knew mixing the imported Winter Brews in one keg would end in tears, no wonder TEX is playing up, his feet were steaming after treading in some spilt brew[:-,].

Great to see DOUG TED CM3 LARS BK and of course NICK AT THE DO.[tup]. The Zepher posts were a great start to the day.

[alien] It was a foggy morning in Mid-Mo today and as I took the pooch for a walk in the park the low sun through the fog into the woodland was so reminiscent of the trip on a Cross- Country DMU through Pembrokeshire I took in my youth. You are lucky NICK to live in such a wonderful part of a beautiful country .

TOM Many thanks for the jokes and the Navel reports. Some of the Captains were a law into themselves .On one ship my Dad served on, the sailors who were late returning from leave had to appear before him, if he had not heard the excuse before he would let, the one who gave it him, off with no punishment. One of the best excuses was."Well Sir when I arrived home the wife was in the bath and it took longer than I thought to get my clothes dry again."

Just a quick thing that appeared on the local TV news in Jeff City this morning. It is 70 years ago today that the first Spitfire took flight,
A nice point was that the Test Pilot who flew the maiden flight went up again in a two-seater Spitfire at the age of 93[bow]

Oh well that pitcher didnt last long I had better have anither one. Care to join me NICK. PETE.

Hey Nick!!

Figured it was something like "that" - domestic life does have a way of taking precedence, ya know![swg]

There's quite a crowd in the back room, although the bar is rather empty. Seems that the Galsof "Our" Place are rather popular. Even moreso with the outfits Cindy arranged for them to wear.[wow] I'd say we probably need to double up on security, for when the Track Gangs arrive, well it's "Katy, bar the door!"<groan>

That's quite a spread you [C=:-)] had prepared and taken care of and it looks as if there's plenty to last well into the evening. [dinner] was suppposed to be served when you arrived, but they couldn't wait![swg][tup] Good chow!<urp>

Okay, Mate - do your catch up, and perhaps we'll connect next time around . . .

Doug You're hangin' in there and it's appreciated![tup] I saw Pete in and out and also Al over on the "my other thread!" Also rather confusing to say the least! Oh well . . . .

I'll be "in 'n out" for the rest of the day - maybe we'll have better success later on.

Boris and Tex the Armadillo are creating quite a disturbance in the back, so I better get going to find out what in blazes is going on NOW!<geesh> Cindy will you take the bar for me[?][swg] Figured you would - after all it's NICK's Day!<envy>

Oh yeah, if anyone sees Awk please let me know, for he's NOT to get outside under any circumstances. While he always comes back, the little flying devil has a "thing" about "diving bombing" the DEPARTING customers. He's just that way, hates to see a party end.[swg]

Certainly words to live by ... brother CM3. It make more sense when you say the words out loud ...for some reason ...

Hey Lars! Great to see you here. I'll check my e-mail immediately!

[:I] Chick was on the local beach one day and just couldn't make it with any of the girls. He did notice that Bob, the lifeguard, had no trouble with the ladies at all. So Chick walked over to Bob to find out what his secret was.
"It's obvious, Chick " said Bob. "Do What I do... grab a pair of Speedos - about two sizes too small - and drop a fist-sized potato down inside 'em. You'll have all the babes you want!"
The following weekend, Chick went back to the beach with his brand new, skintight tight Speedos and before he went strolling down the surf, he made sure to drop in his potato as Bob had suggested. To his surprise though, the reaction he got was worse than before. Everybody on the beach was acting disgusted as he walked by, covering their faces, running away screaming, and looking sick! Chick ran over to Bob and asked him what he was doing wrong, and Bob yelled "Chick, you idiot the potato goes in front!!" [:I]

Hey Tom

I'm going to have to check out pretty shortly, sorry that I missed Nick. Maybe those guys who jumped the gun knew something the rest of us didn't![swg]

Anyway, I'll take a Schaefers in a frosty bottle and a new cold mug if you please. I'll nurse it for a bit, but then I gotta scram.

Bk Things are somewhat back to normal. The basement wall/foundation work continues. Thought they'd finish up on Saturday, but they ran into a few problems. Nothing upsetting, just "things" that go along with what they do. They will be done with it all today - an in fact, probably are as I heard the heavy equipment being loaded onto thre flatbed just a bit ago. That's a good sign![tup]

I agree with what The Boss said regarding time on this "thing." It can surely chew up your personal life - been there done that and ain't gonna let it happen again. That's my concern for our "Steamed Properietor" as well. Just have to step away every now and then. Life will go on. Anyway, good to see you and perhaps one day the Three Horsemen will rendezvous! Wouldn't that be something![yeah]

Doug Good stuff![swg] Did you get my email[?]

Tom I'll try to make it back before the end of the evening . . . .

Good Afternoon Barkeep and all Present, coffee, please, round for the house, and bail money for Nick's birthday. I noticed that there are several tank cars spotted out behind the building - different strengths or different compounds - why do they all have Chemtrak labels and MSDS documents?

I was looking at the TV the other night when I picked up a strange broadcast drifting in and out. It turned out to be a live feed of the press conference following Nick's initial outing with the band(s). Some of you may have not seen it on CNN (or Outdoor Life Network), but here are a few quotes I managed to decipher through the static. As always, Nick (like Yogi) provided aphorisms and points to ponder. For example:

"I never said I had no idea about most of the things you said I had no idea about."
"I have nothing to say about that, and don't quote me on it."

When asked about his view of music he remarked, "Human salvation lies in the hands of the creatively maladjusted."

Reflecting on his early years in show business, Nick recalled, "How do you like my luck? Every time opportunity knocks, I don't have enough money to open the door." Responding to a question from a reporter, Nick said of fame, "A celebrity is a person who works hard all his life to become well known, then wears dark glasses to avoid being recognized."

Rushing to his Mini Cooper limo, Nick left with two cryptic remarks, "Don't start comparing yourself with me. It will make you crazy," and then he said, "Be true to your teeth and they won't be false to you."

The rest of the transmission was lost when a coal train rolled by the house, but I was left feeling that I had truly heard some words to live by.

Happy birthday Nick

work safe

Hello BK

Great to see ya again and happy that you could stop by![tup]

Don't be concerned about the frequency of your visits, just don't forget us! Well understand what you said and we've all been there - especially astute to pick up on that stuff, especially at the stage of your relationship. (Free comments from the Marriage Counsellor himself![swg]) Anyway, everyone doesn't have the "luxury" that I have - retired, days pretty much to myself, so it's no big deal for me. When Carol is home though, then I spend far less time at the keybooard - unless she is doing school work - then ..... so, that's just life.

That BK Sack 'o Cash will be exhuasted at the end of this party, as will the Lars Box and the general "slush" fund that we have comprised of rounds bought by our regulars, CM3 'n Al who put the money up even when there's no one here but Moi. Anyway, we'll be "rock bottom" come the 'morow![swg]

Okay, Gents - take a stroll into the back room, that's where the "action" is . . . Unplug Herr Wurltizer will ya, Lars don't need the competing sounds today![swg]

Hi again Tom and boyz ..... this party seems to be missing something .... but what could it be? Yeah, I killed that first post because everything wasn't coming out right. I figured it was a problem with the board, but it turned out to be stupid-ol-me all the time! Where's the party boy ?????????

[:I] A pastor, a doctor and an engineer were waiting one morning for a particularly slow group of golfers. The engineer fumed, "What's with these guys? We must have been waiting for 15 minutes!" The doctor chimed in, "I don't know, but I've never seen such ineptitude!" The pastor said, "Hey, here comes the greens keeper. Let's have a word with him." "Hi George! Say, what's with that group ahead of us? They're rather slow, aren't they?" The greens keeper replied, "Oh, yes, that's a group of blind firefighters. They lost their sight saving our clubhouse from a fire last year, so we always let them play for free anytime."
The group was silent for a moment. The pastor said, "That's so sad. I think
I will say a special prayer for them tonight.
"The doctor said, "Good idea. And I'm going to contact my ophthalmologist
buddy and see if there's anything he can do for them."
The engineer said, "Why can't these guys play at night?" [:I]

Hey Guys! If you want to stay current with what is going on today for Nick's Birthday Bash! use the REFRESH/RELOAD "button" at the top of your screen on a frequent basis. What it does is bring up the MOST CURRENT Posts so that you will see who is "on" and also get the latest submissions. To remain with the screen that you called up when first logging on STAYS dormant. REFRESH/RELOAD changes things for the better.

Happy Birthday to Sir Nick![bday]

Good Afternoon (almost noon here) Captain Tom and all assembled!

Quite a gathering thus far, perhaps not quite on time with it all, but nonetheless a good show I would submit.[tup]

Sir Nick I have read with much interest and viewed with a grin or two, your postings and the photographs Captain Tom provided for us yesterday. Amazing what a mixture we have here! Just like real life, so to speak.[swg]

Another great effort put forth by all yesterday, but in particular our leader! Where in the world do you find the time? I know that I am not the only one wondering this. Amazing what you do with this thread of yours. The pictures were very captivating and I must say that Mr. Barndad puts an awful lot of energy into his postings as well. The narratives are splendid and very educational. Much appreciated.

Lars How are things at the home front these days? Construction finished? Insurance adjustors gone? Life returning to normal? Surely wish you and your Mrs. the best as you have endured quite an ordeal from the descriptions you have provided.

I have been rather tardy in my attendance, or perhaps the better choice of word would be sporadic. There is a reason and it has to do with my new lifestyle. When in the solitary mode, I found the time to dawdle the hours away doing this and that. However, how that I am part of a duo, it is not quite the same (as all of you married and otherwise connected people surely can attest). I find that the time I am spending doing things like this somehow detract from what I really should and want to do as well. Make any sense?

There have not been any complaints, but I am selecting my online time to coincide with periods of either absence or preoccupation by my intended. So if she is out or working on something, then I will use that time for these hobby interests, which I suppose is what this is. First hobby I ever had, truly.

I await the arrival of the Birthday Man himself, just hope it will not be too long, as we will be departing in a short while.

Bartender Captain Tom, I will have one of those fine looking brews from England if you please. Your choice and buy the lads a drink from that BK Sack 'o Cash thank you!

Also see CM3 "down there" so, I'll step aside and await "The Master's Voice" (remember that one??)[swg]

Tom

Meant to thank you for putting North to Alaska on the movie schedule! Appreciate it - just can't get enough of that babe, Capucine - she's probably in a rocking chair at the "farm" these days, but there was a time![wow] Only other flick I remember seeing her in was one of those Pink Panther funnies from years ago. Sure would like to have smuggled her aboard in my seabag, I'll tell ya.

Anyway, thanks again. Liked that Abbott& Costello match up as well. Good choices.[tup] Figured that sooner or later you'd have to throw in some "regular" flicks as the railroad themes can get rather hard to find after 20 or so titles.

Ok - I'll shut up and wait for something to happen. I hear the band banging and blaring away in the pool room - that's where some folks are raising the roof, so at least someone's having fun.[tup]

Hi Lars!

Appreciate your sticking with this .... don't want to expend any of my energy over the habits of others when it comes to this stuff. Been there, done that and it goes absolutely no where. I've had this NOON start advertised for a sufficient time. Maybe later .......

Those gals you saw come in are the staff who take care of the tables on Thursday, Friday & Saturday nights. You just didn't recognize 'em all dolled up, eh[?] Behave, sailor, behave![}:)][:-,]

I'm going to check out for a bit - have a little housekeeping chores to take care of - watch the "store" for me, will ya[?]

Good afternoon Tom and friends. Because of the anticipated riot and mayhem which is sure to be a result of Nick's party, the musicians (the only prisoners) of the Mentor lock-up have been entrusted to my custody to free the Inspector so he could work on assembling a large deputy force to deal with the problem. Hope ya'll don't mind the noise! Thankfully, there were no bagpipe players ... I believe they were at a "dress rehearsal." By the way ...please set me up with another bottomless draft, and accept another round on me!

Good idea to tell those jokes early Tom. I'm not sure how long we'll be able to understand them! Speaking of which:

[:I] A cowboy rode into town and stopped at a saloon for a drink. Unfortunately, the locals always had a habit of picking on strangers, which he was. When he finished his drink, he found his horse had been stolen. He goes back into the bar, handily flips his gun in the air, catches it above his head without even looking and fires a shot into the ceiling. "WHICH ONE OF YOU SIDEWINDERS STOLE MY HORSE?" he yelled with surprising forcefulness no one answered "All right, I'M GONNA HAVE ANOTHER DRINK, AND IF MY HORSE AIN'T BACK OUTSIDE BY THE TIME I FINNISH, I'M GONNA DO WHAT I DONE IN TEXAS! AND MAKE NO MISTAKE, I DON'T LIKE DOING WHAT I DONE IN TEXAS! Some of the locals shifted restlessly. He had another drink, walked outside, and sure enough his horse was back. He saddled up and started to ride out. The bartender came out and said "Say partner, before you go.... what happened in Texas?"
The cowboy turned back and said "I had to walk home." [:I]

Hey Tom!

I see that ONLY the two of us are signed on ..... saw 20 Fingers over on the other thread ... what's with that[?]

Anyway, liked those Brit jokes - looks like we're going to have to tell one another stories to keep this going, huh[?]

Let's see - it's about 12:15 PM - that makes it 5:15 PM where Nick is ..... he's probably preparing dinner for the family - just a guess![swg]

I'll stick around for awhile - this time, I'll take one of those Budd Lights in a frosty bottle and cold mug if you please. I'm ready for a large hereo - ham, swiss, mustard and butter - two large pickles from the barrel AND another beer when it's all ready![swg]

WHO are those lovely ladies that just walked in[?] Good grief - be still my heart![wow]

This is becoming more and more interesting ..........

UNDER THE AUTHORITY VESTED IN ME AS PROPRIETOR of this CYBER BAR ‘n GRILL, I HEREBY DELCARE THIS DAY, NICK DAY! [C=:-)] LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL as we celebrate the NATAL DAY of our FRIEND, nickinwestwales Nick! [C=:-)]

[bday]HAPPY belated 46th BIRTHDAY to NICK! [C=:-)] [bday]

AND NOW ………SOMETHING A LITTLE DIFFERENT for our FRIEND NICK [C=:-)] I(and Pete!!)

There are four kinds of people that live in Great Britain. First are the Scots, who hold onto their children and anything else they can get their hands on. Next are the Welsh, who pray on their knees and on their neighbors. Then there are the Irish, who don't know what they want, but they'll fight anyone for it. And last are the English, who consider themselves self made men, which relieves the Almighty of any responsibility!

"A true gentleman is one who can play the bagpipes--and doesn't."

In England they tell Irish Jokes in the same vein as we tell Polish Jokes. In Eire they tell the same type of jokes about the English, and the folks from county Cork. In a broad brogue: D'ye hear about the man who moved fr'm Cork t' London? Thereb'y raisn' the I/Q in both places. In England they tell cheap jokes about the Scots, in Scotland they tell them about Glaswegians (people from Glasgow). D'ya hear about the horrible food poisin' epidemic in Glasgow? Oh yes it was awful 350 people fell ill. They traced it to a bad tin of corned beef. Where else but in Glasgow could you get 350 sandwiches from a tin of corned beef?

The Scottsman comes to his friend in tears.

"My beautiful comb. I broke a tooth on it an now I can't use it anymore. What am I going to do? Now I'll have to buy another one."

"Well," said his friend, "you don't need to buy another just because you lost one tooth on your comb."
"But you don't understand. It was the last tooth."

Two English men are walking along O'Connell Street when they see a sign in a shop window. Suits £15.00, shirts £2.00, trousers £2.50. One said to the other one "Look at that - we could buy a lot of that gear and, when we get back to England we could make a fortune, When we go into the shop don't say anything, let me do all the talking, cause if they hear our accent they might not serve us, so I'll speak in my best Irish accent."
They go in and he orders, 50 suits at £15.00, 100 shirts at £2.00 and 50 trousers at £2.50 The owner of the shop says "You're English aren't you?"
The Englishman replies "Oh bother... Yes, how the hell did you know that?"
The owner says, "This is a dry cleaners..."

Do you know how the Grand Canyon was formed ?
---A Scot dropped a penny in a golf hole.

AND ………. <drumroll>

British OER Standards

The British Military writes OFRs (Officer Fitness Reports). The form used for Royal Navy and Marines fitness reports is the S-206 and these are actual excerpts.

1. His men would follow him anywhere, but only out of curiosity.

2. I would not breed from this officer.

3. This officer is really not so much of a has-been, but more of a definitely won't-be.

4. When she opens her mouth, it seems that this is only to change whichever foot was previously in there.

5. He has carried out each and every one of his duties to his entire satisfaction.

6. He would be out of his depth in a car park puddle.

7. Technically sound, but socially impossible.

8. This officer reminds me very much of a gyroscope always spinning around at a frantic pace, but not really going anywhere.

9. This young lady has delusions of adequacy.

10. When he joined my ship, this officer was something of a granny; since then he has aged considerably.

11. Since my last report, he has reached rock bottom and has started to dig.

12. She sets low personal standards and then consistently fails to achieve them.

13. He has the wisdom of youth and the energy of old age.

14. This officer should go far, and the sooner he starts, the better.

15. In my opinion, this pilot should not be authorized to fly below 250 feet.

16. The only ship I would recommend this man for is citizenship.

17. Works well when under constant supervision and cornered like a rat in a trap. (This one is a keeper.)

18. This man is depriving a village somewhere of an idiot. (Runner-up)

[bday]HAPPY belated 46th BIRTHDAY to NICK![bday]
