Dave, you are right on the road, but you are way, way, off on one direction. Incidentally, the Florida Sunbeam did not go through Jacksonville; the Southern handed it off to the SAL at Hampton, Fla, taking it down from Valdosta on the Palatka line of the GS&F.
The car arrived in Jacksonville about breakfast time and left for Greensboro after giving the passengers time to digest their suppers; it was overnight in both directions from/to another city in North Carolina.

The railroad is the Southern, and one direction included Atlanta, the other Savanna and Columbia. About the trains, i am less certain. Possibly the Piedmont Limited, and the Kansas-City-Florida Special. Possibly the Florida Sunbeam and the Piedmont, again.
Since I named the never was train and the roads which would have operated it, here goes.
In the early thirties, there was a through Pullman between Greensboro, N.C., and Jacksonville, Fla., operated by one road and did not follow the same route northbound as it did southbound. What major city did it serve each way that it did not serve the other way? What was the routing and what trains carried it?
29 & 30 was the Arizona Limited. The board is up for grabs.
Not the Choctaw Rocket
I know 29 and 30 were NOT the numbers for the Choctaw Rockette, the RDC replacement for the Choctaw Rocket. My 1957 OG doesn't have a 29/30 pair so I don't know what the Rockets numbers were.

This sounds like the cars that the Rock Island and Southern Pacific ordered for the Golden Rocket (a train that never was). The SP canceled its order, but the Rock went ahead, bought its cars, and put them into service. I would name the cars, but I have packed both my books that have the names since I will be moving in about a month (from about fourteen miles from my closer daughter into a house that she and I are buying).

Alrighty...EZ. Orders were placed at Pullman Standard for car sets for a new train. Only one railroad actually took delivery; the other cancelled their order. Name the roads. The name of the train for which they were to be used. Extra points if you can name the car names for both sets of cars.

It interlined freight with one railroad in Milwaukee and that railroad alone. It could not interline freight with other railroads. On occasion, there were special through passenger services with that one other railroad.
The one I am thinking about was in Wisconsin.
Any rail use is a good answer. Streetcar, light rail, interurban, rapid transit, commuter railroad, frieght railroad, whatever. I have one in mind. It is/was in the Midwest. But I know there are others.
And so corrected. Thank you! We know of railroad rights-of-way usurped by highway construction or busways or trails, but name at least one case where a highway right-of-way was converted to a rail line, without continued use of the highway. So I am not talking about medium-strip rapid transit lines but the actual use of a former highway right of way for purely rail purposes. Or possibly rail and power transmission line.
