G'day!
Yeah, Rob - we at times are definitely at the short-end of the string on this Thread . . . it's had the "disappearing railroad blues" pretty much since inception . . .
I see Shane has popped "in" with a comment or two . . .
James - Guess it's all in the expectations regarding what one expects from RDCs or any other mode of rail transport. After spending many years traveling aboard NY City subways, RDC travel was a luxury! Commuted to 'n from work aboard RDCs in Boston - had a wonderful experience in 1999 up in BC between N. Vancouver 'n Lillooet - then the TRE experience down in Dallas. I'm most pleased with my experiences . . . Can't think of another self-powered rail vehicle that has had the longevity of those Budd creations!
Mine for this day . . .

Enjoy!

Hey tom that's a nice one, I have to say though that I liked the green scheme with the dogwood logo on the BC Rail but hey it's just paint Nice to see James and Shane pop in with their comments as well Jame's I too wish I had taken more photo's of the blue smoothside VIA cars, they never did it for me on those early pictrue taking runs I went on in the mid to late 80's. Once I sarted to notice them they were basically gone replaced by the Budd's and the LRC equipment ( not that there is anything wrong with them either )
Here's todays offering.
CN RS18 in the Windsor yard 1989
Lets see , one more for the road this evening.
Another RDC for the pile ! Cp at Niagara falls in the late 70's.
RDC is top shelf, Rob!
Some drumheads for this last Friday of the month . . .
Some "Capitol" drumheads there Tom
Here's today's offering,a Cklassic of a more modern nature , a supprise on a Sarnia CSX train in 2003.
enjoy
Rob
Lets see a saturday pop in for this lonely thread.
A CP RS18 that was picked up by the OSR as spares for it's operable units.
A couple of good ones from Rob - snow looks GREAT - minus trucks looks weird! <grin>
Mine for this Saturday . . .
We're CLOSED at the bar on Sundays 'n apparently here as well!
Something to keep things on track . . .
B&O Royal Blue on the B&O Thomas Viaduct, south of Baltimore, Maryland, in a posed 1937 foto. <Public Domain>
Enjoy the holiday weekend!
Some railroad heralds with their start-up dates . . .
Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe (1863) Atlantic Coast Line (1900) Baltimore & Ohio (1827) #1
Hi guys-good to see the best kept secret in town is still around -some good stuff on a variety of topics, since R.D.C`s seem to be a theme.....these have been out before, but none the worse for that
img{}/img
This one has also done the rounds previously, but I reckon it`s a good enough shot to merit a repeat...
Indeed, this shot is responsible for a considerable amount of Citadel `enchanted blue` paint and S.M.P & Microscale decals to be applied to otherwise blameless Model Power locos & cars...........
Enjoy the day now
Good evening Gents. More inetersting stuff on this small but still relevant thread.Great montages from Sir Nick and usual top drawer stuff from dabossman
Here's a meger shot for this Labour day Monday evening.
Fine looking RDC-3 from Rob! As mentioned at the bar, those units came in two configurations - one seating 40 passengers 'n the other as an RPO with baggage compartment. Don't see those on the rails these days . . .
Surprised, but pleased to see Nick found his way to this lonely Thread - good stuff, as usual from our Chief Chef at the bar!
More RR heralds with start-up dates . . .
Boston & Maine (1835) Canadian Pacific (1881) Chesapeake & Ohio (1867)
Hey Tom still hanging in over here I see. Nice heralds all classics to be sure. Those CN RDC3's were generally set up with the RPO,they were changed over when they went to VIA afterwards.
A GMD 1 for everyone to enjoy. This one is in the former NS&T Merriton Yard in St Catharines On when it was leased to Trillum rail in the late 90's.
That GMD1 is a most interesting MoSheen - thanx Rob!
Continuing on with the RR heralds 'n start-up dates . . .
Chicago & Northwestern (1859) Chicago, Burlington & Quincy (1855) Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul ("The Milwaukee Road," 1874)
Been real busy of late, but will be around much more after Friday owing to a bought, (sp) hopefully shorlived, of unemployment. Where was the Via picture of Nik's taken, looks rather CP ish.
Love GMD 1's, there was one assigned for six months or more back in the sixties to the daily Tillsonburg run over the Burford subdivision, and I have a B & W picture of it somewhere, my wife sorted the pictures and I am having trouble finding sone of my older ones, but have actually gotten some scanned so maybe soon I will post a few.
Keep em coming guys.
James
Good Afternoon All:
Nice selection of heralds and enjoyed the switcher as well - an exotic item, for sure.
work safe
Evening folks.Lets see what's in the ole photo bucket tonight.
Somthing unusual in the CN / GT Battlecreek yard a Conrail GP15 T
Good afternoon All: Interestimng CR picture - not too many of those around anywahere.
Always can count on something unusual from our Manager at the bar! Thanx, Rob . . .
Appreciate seeing Shane here <again>
Mine for today . . .
Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul ("The Milwaukee Road," 1874) Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific (1866) Erie (1859)
Good evening folks.Glad everyone liked that unusual one.The GP15's were an interesting experament by EMD. They were a new locomotive aimed at the class ones for a way to have their old engine replaced by a similar low horse unit.Several of the big roads bought them but it was a short lived production run.Nice set of Heralds Tom Lets see mine for tonight.
Another Conrail shot from the early 2000's this is a GP38-2 in Buffalo
James,Hi there -Hope the work situation resolves quickly -As an outside worker in the wettest summer since Noah put mallet to chisel I can fully sympathise....
The VIA pic is Sudbury,Ont-the main train is the eastbound Canadian To. portion whilst the Alco in the bay has a portion for either Montreal or Quebec-love all the fine detail in this one(which I aquired as part of a calender)-loads for the modeller
Have looked for clues to the " C.P.R`ish feel" and have concluded its prolly the 300 or so C.P.R wagons in the yard that set the bells ringing
Right, lets have something to look at.....Hmmmm
When in doubt, look to the west...
Here`s a couple from the Cork City line-which connected the two principal temini in Cork and allowed through access to the Cork,Bandon & Southern Counties line
Enjoy
Couple nice steamers there sir Nick
One of the short lived ( on GO ) GP40-2W's at Burlington West station
TOM-Apologies for temporarily hi-jacking the thread-As a great fan of Irish rail,James`s enquiry struck a chord and as we can`t seem to drag him across to the bar I thought I would hump my projecter and screen over here-it is after all a network of seductive images, strange operational practices and general weirdness that one might travel far and not see twice
ROB-Hi-Youre pix are all showing some sort of P/Bucket fault-I think you need to stick another shilling in the meter there mate
JAMES Hi -Hope things are good...Now,Irish railways-fairly complex (but rewarding) area of study:-kick off by typing C.I.E into your browser and see where that takes you...
Heres a few more images that you might find resonances of as you search around
Well here we have a range of standard gauge diesel power-from state of the art back to 1st generation
We had Std G. steam in the last post and here is one of each from the narrow gauge (an enormous component of the Irish rail scene)
Hope this whets your appetite
P.S-the narrow gauge steamer (Tralee & Dingle Rly-your next clue,is my favourite)
A.T.B
Good evening gents. Odd that my shots are gone. I wonder if P bucket is having some server issues or something, when I go to my albums all the shots are there and the photo's came through before Guess we will wait and see till tomorrow an see if it clears up.
Lets see a last kick at this thread to see if P bucket's working or not.
West Bound Ocean at CN Lemoine just outside of Halifax
Well that was anoying.I had changed to teh unlimited acees pro plan for photobucket and it changed the coding on the photo's for posting purposes. I fixed this page as it seems the new coding effects all the stuff posted before the change. No way I'm going to go back and fix em all sorry at least I have it working again.Lets see one last one for herer then I think I too shall concentrate stricktly on da bar.
One from Fergie's Neck of the woods.A Winsdor and Hantsport's RS 23 ex CP on an Ex CP ( Dominion Atlantic Line )
Ahoy Cap'n Tom!
Just had to swing by with my final one for this idea of yours . . .
See ya at the bar!
Lars
Hello Classic Train Buffs,
My name is Jim and I live in Connecticut. I have been browsing this thread and your other one (Our Place) for well over a year.
Just wanted you to know that I am one of those "silent guys" who does appreciate what you put forth here and at your bar.
I hope you (Tom) and the others who have kept this thread going have a change of heart. It is a fine example of the way things should be done on these forums.
Best to you!
Jim
Hello Jim . . . I'm a Navy man myself from too many years back. Went "Merchie" 'n am now on the beach, retired, in Staten Island, New York.
Anyway, nice of you to drop off your comments here and over at "Our" Place. The guys really appreciated it as did I.
This thread is a gone-er, but thought I'd drop these off for YOU!
