Fall will be here tomorrow.Mother Nature sent a little rain but the Temprature hasn't dropped yet.Ns has shuffled more cars uptown.I also heard a couple go by after work.Came home and took care of the swamp.Going to get cleaned up.

PS - The gods of centripital force caught another speeder on RTD light rail in Denver today. When will the bus people at RTD wake up and smell the coffee? Downhill into a flat curve with no cross-level elevation means SLOW DOWN!. There is only so much forgiveness in a set-up like that. Passengers hurt, lucky there has not been a fatal injury yet.

Finally got my TR-7 back from the shop after having the carbs rebuilt; was in the shop for almost a month waiting on Stromberg CD 175 rebuild kits; that and the only shop that I could find that undersands them is about 45 miles from me. Of course with the location of the shop being next to CSX's tracks at JD Tower in Hyattsville, I got to watch I031 going down the Alexandria Extension while I138 was stopped on #2 track waiting for I031 to clear. Had to rent a trailer to take the car down and back.
Tomorrow calls for rain.

Ns had some cars shuffled around after work today.Came home and ran errands.Nothing on Csx.Did see the new signals out west of town.They are not hooked up yet.The ND&W had some more ballast cars in their yard as well.County engineer announced that the new connector roads out west will be the chip and seal variety when all is done.Just another spot for csx to park trains.Glad tomorrow is Friday.Saturday is Fostoria's train show.

What a difference. Front came through this morning and my daughter picked us up to get our third Covid-19 booster. About 25 degrees cooler. No storm. That was a couple of days ago. Next shot will be the Flu vac. And it is NOW FALl! Let the fun begin. Pumpkin this and Pumpkin that. Ghost trains. And before you know it, POLAr EXPRESS trains (or their equivalents)

No Thomas here, but fall colors are now a thing, resulting in sold out trains through the end of the season (mid-October).
For us, Polar starts the weekend before Thankgiving and ends the weekend before Christmas - two trips per night, four days a week. All of the prime dates/times are long since sold out.
I'm usually in the cab, so don't see much of the crowds, etc. Every now and then I'll end up as one of the conductors. Kerosene lantern and all.
Fall has definitely made its appearance here. I definitely need the jacket while waiting for the inbound ride to work.
Got up this morning to a cooler-than-it-should-have-been house. Didn't feel like doing the furnace technician thing myself (I know a little about oil burners, but not enough), so I called for service.
Tech found three very toasted bats and an equally toasted mouse in the firepot. First time (that I know of) that's happened in the 40 years I've lived here. The mouse could have gotten in inside the basement, but the bats had to have come down the chimney...
All fixed now, and the house is nice and toasty. It's 3:30 PM and the outside temp is a balmy +54F...

Temps here have reverted to the 80s this next week. Of course it is fall because the loud sound of migrating Canada Geese fills the air ....

Loud is hardly the word. They have a volume that could challenge a Nathan Airchime at a grade crossing.
Worked on the pickup today, got her annual oil and filters changed, plus two new batteries and a new thermostat. The seals in the old thermostat had disintegrated, and I couldn't get the truck any hotter than 165 degrees, new one holds temp at 190. Easiest thermostat I have ever changed, it's not buried under anything, and it comes with a new o-ring. Headed to Pennsylvania tomorrow for work............

Fostoria was a good time today.Csx was trying to make room for everything.Picked up a few cars at the train show.Matt was helping out his train club.They had to clear out fast because the school had homecoming tonight.Csx was still jammed on the way home.The dispatcher thought he could slip M 353 into track 4 at Deshler but he was too big.Plus the crew was out of time.It also had 3 more of the mega log haulers with WC markings in the train.Gussers say rain tomorrow.

Already under consideration - and I may already have the materials on hand. There are plenty of things I can do with a lift if I rent one. Back in the day, I would have gone up there on ladders, but my balance isn't up to that kind of task any more.
Used to have bats in the attic. Figured out (by watching) where they were getting in. Once they left for the season, that got filled up with foam. Took care of the issue.
Our weather has turned decidedly cooler in the past week, so the critters are looking for warmer quarters. I've been getting mice in the house, too. Old house - hard to figure out where they are sneaking in. I think a "tipping bucket" may be on my project list. I think I have the materials for that, too...

We had a problem with birds getting into the attic some years ago. We put a radio in the attic and tuned it to a rock-and-roll station which managed to scare out the birds. We then covered the hole until the roofer came.

Just remembered, on the Cajon cam I often see winged flying critters at night, probably small owls or bats. Plenty of insects to feed on.

Daughter's cat used to do that - although she didn't bring them inside. We'd hear "mmmmmMMMMMmmmmm" outside the door. On opening the door, there the cat would be, next to her recent accomplishment (usually a vole, maybe a mouse). "That's very nice, Angel," we'd say, and close the door so she could enjoy her snack in peace.
First house had ceilings but no attic. Soffit had vent holes with screening that got rusted. Heard scratching above bed one night. Found hole in soffit screen. Squirrels had nested. Put new hardware cloth over openings. Squirrels teeth were able to cut it. Put heavier grade HW cloth on. Found moma squirrel frantically tryig to get in. Realized there were babys. Lured them with peanut butter to opening. Moma Squirrel hang on brick wall near me chattering at me while I got one out and put it on ground and moma grabs it a takes off down street to another house. Got second baby out and process repeats. Reinstalled extra heavy HWC and no more scratching above bedroom. Heard about some people with Racoons in attics. NO thanks.
