Chuck, I remember Spike very well and his band of cohorts. Does anyone recall when his son was born? Shortly after he was born Spike told folks on t. v. that he would be called "Spikes little Tack". I wonder where he is today. The likes of comedy has changed so much. Stan and Ollie sure could get a laugh real easy. The antics of the Keystone Cops was funny , can you imagine who the genius was who came up with all the ideas for those movies.

Spike Jones, Jr., shows up on TV in January of 1952, so probably he showed up before that. His IMDB page indicates that he has been doing TV producing for the past 14 years or so, mostly award shows and the like.
I remember watching "The Spike Jones" show in the mid-fifties and thought it was pretty funny. During that time the funniest song they did was a horse race bit about a horse named "Beetlebaum." There is no goofy comedy like that these days that I have seen. Thank goodness for DVDs of Stan and Ollie, Bud and Lou and Harpo, Chico and Groucho.
Dating myself, but I sort of miss those days. If I could go back to them but have all the conveniences of today.......... In some ways life was easier then.

Went fishing again today. Lots of bait disappeared, but no fish. End of season smart!
Did have a good time watching all the hangovers wandering around an RV area. Had a great football game yesterday and a record 91+K crowd. Then the leftover entertainment for today. That was amusing.
Also caught about 9-10 trains coming and going. Always something to see there. Got the Sunday papers read and then a short nap. Can't beat that with a stick!

Spent all day yesterday painting on the outside of my house, up and down the ladder. Today, my youngest son and I went on a rugged 2 hour hike. I don't think my eyelids hurt right now, but I'll swear that darn near every other part of my body does.

Saturday was really nice, if a bit cool. Jacket weather all day, although some holdouts were still seen in shorts.
Sunday, on the other hand started out nice, but got very wet very fast. That's not so bad for the engineer (in this case me), aside from dealing with wheel slip (and I did). The crew that had to work outside, on the other hand, got soaked.
They'll dry, and I've been there before.
The colors in the central Adirondacks are really starting to come into their own. I thought they might be a little dull, but the are really perking up now. Peak will probably be within a week to ten days.
I'm working this week, during the week. I expect to have some busy trains!
Next weekend I'll be manning the railroad's booth at the model train show in Massena. If anyone happens by that way, stop in and say hi!

I am still enjoying my travels in Canada, despite having something happen in my laptop a week ago which makes it impossible for me to use it to get on line. Right now, I am in a hotel in Prince Rupert, B.C, waiting for Wednesday to come so I can start back to Jasper--where I will spend a night before going back to Vancouver.
The trip from Jasper to here was in two parts--to Prince George one day and on to Prince Rupert the next---with dodging many CN freights. We had at least one meet involving two westbounds and one eastbound, which had us backing past the switch to the south track after the two eatbounds ran by and then running around the westbound, which also had stopped on the north track (around here, CN does not number the tracks, but names them).
Late Friday morning, I boarded the ferry for Port Hardy and had a fair trip (no cabin was available, so I sat up during the night) down, and left there yesterday afternoon, to arrive here 22 hours later--in a cabin so I was able to stretch my weary bones out.
I never saw a whale really out of water, but I did see many spouts, and caught, with my eyes, a tailfin disappearing beneath the water.
While I was waiting to board in Port Hardy, I had a brief conversation with one of the navigation officers, and he told me I should ask for a tour of the bridge--and, just before lunch today one of the other people on board asked me if I would like a tour; I said yes, and was taken up, along with a lady and her son, after lunch and did see some of the works. The communication system between the bridge and the engine room looks much like the old system which was mechanical and rang a bell in the engine room which a change in speed/direction was needed.
It's raining here now.
As some of you may have noticed, one of our young contributors, northwest, and I met briefly in Bellingham as I was on my way up to Seattle nine days ago.

There are artistic things, quiltistic things, logistic things, and other things going on that weekend...in the Land of No Trains.It's been quiet for me for the past week, including the trip to Michigan we took last weekend. There is plenty of work to do; I'm restructuring my file pages for the East Erie Commercial Railroad to make it easier to see former numbers for the cars we know about. I'd get more done if it weren't for the distracting view of our backyard from my work-station. It is a nice day to be inside, looking out at a yard that appears much warmer than it really is. There are about a half-dozen squirrels, and a chipmunk or two, scurrying around (I'm keeping the door locked in case they become desperate in their search for nuts!). There was a female cardinal perched on our gazing ball. No wind, clear sky...I'll be outside later today, I'm pretty sure.One thing I discovered while messing around with my new iPhone...it not only takes still shots and videos, it can do panoramic shots, and slo-mo and time-lapse videos. I'm hoping I can (a) use both of these features while railfanning: maybe grab more information off faster trains with the slo-mo, and give quicker "tours" of our stretch of railroad with the time-lapse; and (b) find them again when I need them!

I am enjoying my stay in Prince Rupert--seeing Cowtown, and trying out several different restaurants. Up early Wednesday morning, and leave here for the day's run to Prince George.

Friday, I head for Vancouver, in a compartment (which VIA calls a "cabin for two, just the same as it calls a bedroom a "cabin for two"--and sells both for the same price (and sells duplex roomettes and roomettes ("cabins for one") at the same price, also).

From the looks of that track, the train didn't have to jump very far!
Well, my trip to the coast of British Columbia is done; I returned to Jasper yesterday, after another two days' travel from Prince Rupert. We were again delayed by freights, though not as badly as were going west. We left Prince George late because CN let a freight out ahead of us--and it had some problem once it entered the only track out of town. It looked to be solid empty iron ore hoppers--I assumed that a warning to use radiant heat only, and not to exceed 250 degrees F. meant that they were for iron ore. The worst problem came when a signal misfunction kept us stopped after a work train that was ahead of us had cleared the main. However, we were only forty-five minutes late getting in ( the three previous delays were at least an hour and more).
Today, I start back to Vancouver, riding in a compartment in one of the cars built for the CP's Canadian.

well Matt had a fog day from school.We ventured up to Bryan to see what NS was up to.Amtrak's capitol and lake shore were both late plus we got a bonus car special in Butler Indiana.Made it back to Bryan in time to see the "Virginian" heritage unit go by the local engines.Tomorrow hopefully our pen pal will be here then off to Fostoria or other places.
