Old stuff, that bubbles to the top> Do you notice how holidays tend to bring out the best, and the worst in people? My son and I were standing along a bike trail, across the river from our fairgrounds, waiting for the July 4th fireworks to begin. When the National anthem was played, most everyone stood up, took off their hats, and showed respect. Most every one. About 20 feet down the way from us was 2 highly intoxicated men with two teenage boys around 13 or 14. When the music started playing, drunk #1 took off his hat. Drunk #2 did not. About halfway through the National Anthem, drunk #2 leans over and slaps his kid on the shoulder, and shouts "TAKE OFF YER F#%$@ING HAT, AND SHOW SOME F#%$@ING RESPECT FOR THE FLAG!". Oof-duh.

I watched something on tv last nite that showed a forklift driver. It was side-splitting. One was an expensive (aren't they all) car being rolled out and a forklift came at it at a 45' angle. Ran right into the side of it. I told the Driver, Joe would never stand for that!

Every five years, except at thirty, I was given a pin; at thirty I was given a thing to hold keys--and I had been keeping my keys in a case for more than forty years so they would not wear holes in my pocket.
At twenty years, I was given a certificate good at some company--which did not have anything that I had a use for. At twenty-five and at thirty years, I was given a certificate good at L.L. Bean--and I did get usable merchandise from there; I still use a suitcase and some belts I got there.
As to forklifts, every person who drives a forklift is supposed to have had instruction in the safe operation thereof--and there are some who never catch on to the fact that they are dangerous machines.

There was an interesting report on weather this evening: the average number of summer days with the temperature higher than 100 here is six. However, if there is no day in June with a temperature of 100, the average number is three. We had no day that hot this June. But--if there is even one day in June that hot, the average number for the summer is eight.
Don't ask me for the numbers; I am repeating what I heard.
Life in the Adirondacks - the temperature might reach 80+ during the day, but the furnace is likely to kick on at night - as it did in our camp car this weekend. It was +51F when we went to breakfast on Sunday morning.
Computer is giving me fits. For some reason it has decided to not let me log in to my user account, which also happens to be the admin account. If I hadn't set up another account for a project, the thing would be virtually dead. I managed to get access to my files, but that's going to be an issue, too...
The weather is all staying south of us here. We'll see some rain, but nothing severe so far.

Brian/Johnny - I can see it happen on my puter while watching radar. However, the weather service never acknowledges that there are any strange phenoms around the city. We were excluded from the weather warning, but did have one house roof get hit by lightning. Left a big hole! We never miss that part!
And - right - cats don't like getting wet. However, they do love sitting at the window and watching the rain. Unfortunately it mostly rains after dark, so you shut your eyes and listen. I notice trains and rain both active after dark. Hmmm

Our weather modifier is Lake Ontario. I live just off the east end of the lake.
In the summer, the cooler weather of the lake tends to decimate summer storms - sometimes leading to almost no rain here at all.
In the winter, the relatively warmer waters of the lake bring us the well-known "lake effect."
Actually, we do occasionally get "lake effect" rain, but it's rare.

I am glad to hear it isn't just here that we have that odd weather. I guess I notice it more because I love it when it rains. No bad storms, but rain is always nice. And if it never rains/sleets/freezes in the winter, which it seems to do a lot, that would be perfect.
Joe - 1/2 over and I am still behind this week. Too much fishing and not enough getting work done!
Storms just rumbled through - lots of noise, and 2/3" of rain, but nothing untoward in my area.
Points south weren't so lucky - here in the county there were plenty of trees and wires down, and it sounds like Syracuse and points northeast of there took quite a beating. The state police were saying something about damage reports in that area, but I didn't get the whole thing.
The rest of the night should be less exciting.
ns had a coal train and local cars ready to go when I left work.Went into town csx had a grain train come out of the new elevator.When we came back home they had a westbound grain train and an eastbound short frieght with up power on him.so much more to do.
Joe - rain whizzing past us as fast as it can. We aren't getting any of it.

We've been having marvelous weather so far this month. The Fourth was absolute perfection, so was yesterday, and the next couple are supposed to be just like it. The weekend, not so much. We even had good weather while we were in Michigan this time.However, our Michigan-travel luck continued. We got an unfixable flat tire from something we ran over (I heard it, but didn't see it--the tire went down slowly after the fact). The car is now in the body shop to have the last traces of our encounter with the deer removed.
Going to take Patty Jo on a date this afternoon to a movie in a good old Thee-ya-ter. Maybe I'll be able to hang around for trains afterwards.

Well, Pat and I had a pizza lunch before the movie, and were able to eat it on a bench by the BNSF "Racetrack" before going in for the movie. Saw one dinky and three freights while we were in the area.However, after the movie, we took Pat to the Urgent Health Care center in Lombard. She had stumbled and fallen on a hike we were taking last Saturday, and--although the pain has been subsiding--it also has been moving and spreading a bit.
So now we know: Pat sustained three broken ribs in her fall Saturday. Two of them were clean breaks; the third was a hairline fracture. She has to take things easy; it will take a while before she feels better again. She should have a small pillow with her to ease the pain if she need to cough or sneeze (or to whop me upside the head with if I make her laugh too hard).
Speaking of which, I absolutely adore the doctor who fractured the news to her (sorry...broke the news): Pat said it hurt when she had to go to the refrigerator. The doctor said, "Well, don't MOVE the refrigerator in this condition!"
I think, though, that I'm going to banish her from the bedroom for as long as we can stand. She'll be able to get up a lot more easily if she's sleeping in the recliner.
