Good morning

Another day off with Judy.  She had one of our cook days yesterday, as she likes to do that.  Then we have our meals to warm up at night for the rest of the week, so there's no need to fuss when ones tired.

Hi Bear,  so important.  Cabbage can be a tough act to follow.  We've learned through the years, to cook cabbage separately, with it still having a crisp.  Keeping the chicken stock it was cooked in for the rest of the cooking, and parking the cabbage in the refrigerator.  Until it's later introduced to the rest of the dish, (as the last thing) after the heats turned off, to retain its firmness as it was intended.

Corn beef and cabbage. Always liked corned beef with mashed spuds and mustard sauce. My Mum was of the generation of generally fine cooks I should state, whose culinary downfall was that the proper (??) way to cook vegetables then, was to boil them until they were the consistency of a colourless soggy slop, then strain out the water, which of course contained all the goodness. To add injury to insult the grey mush that used to be cabbage was often served in White Sauce consisting of flour butter and milk with the vaguest hint of salt and pepper. We were only saved by the introduction of Chinese restaurants in the 80’s, who showed us how to cook vegetables properly. Steamed crisp cabbage, love it!! Incidentally so did my Mum when she tried some. Dinner

I'll have an Extra Stout, if you've hung on to a few of those.  Like the 16 oz'ers in Black aluminum that have the fizzy ball, and look pretty settling in a clear glass as well.

Nighty Night Kids, I'm hitting the Rack!

Good evening everyone. I just watched the recent Tom Hanks film News Of The World. It was a good story, but completely predictable and moved slowly.

Guess the red potatoes and carrots are for something else tomorrow, for the rest of the corned beef.

This is what we got.

Huh?...Sisters!

It was pretty good though.

And pour the onion, garlic, gravy over the whole thing via phone call with Judy's sisterWhistling

Evening

That was some good stuff Ed.  Was thinking I've done some serious relaxing all these years, after placing a few logs in the fireplace.....Until watching that catLaugh

Had just came across that very same thing the other day Kevin.  Ray quoted some lyrics from a really good tune, and after posting a video from Woodstock, the video had to be replaced.  It contained some poor taste towards the end of it.  I've learned to watch a video in its entirety now, (before) postingWhistling

I never posted a meme before (if that is indeed what this is?) or a .gif?

didn't work...

Oh well, guess I'll just have to post it as a YouTube vid:

I usually have six or eight cats gathered 'round the wood stove.

Seems like many movies over the years try to strive to get an R rating so they can attract a larger market share. I remember enjoying Beetlejuice and right in the middle Michael Keaton has to shout some obscenity for no good reason. Really trashed a good movie.

Another one I'm trying to remember has a full-screen view of a kid's face and he then shouts a vulgar phrase. Completely uncalled for. Marketing people probably wanted it left in, though. I don't mind crass language when it is in character but not simply sprinkled in for the "wow" factor.

Cheers, Ed

Agree with you 100% Kevin, that swear words are completely unnecessary and can spoil a good thing.

I was going to post Old Man Markley Living And Learning on your Train Songs thread.

It really isn't about trains, but uses trains as a thematic element, and it is an enjoyable tune.

Good evening

The brisket's been cooking for the better part of the day, and just got done resting to be cut against the grain.  Judy's got some Irish dinner recipe from her sister she's making this year.

Go ahead.  Your all welcome to a sliceSmile

I just picked up a take-out order of corned beef and cabbage for my wife.  I like corned beef on a Reuben sandwich, but leave the cabbage off my plate.  I'd rather have some of TF's pizza than the corned beef.

Hi John, there's a whole one of those pizzas from last night and you'd be more than welcome to it.  Really do enjoy a good Rueben myself, and know where to get a good one.  Cecil's is a Jewish deli and restaurant in Saint Paul, that is just incredible.

Have always wanted to make one of those Ruebens out of some fresh brisket sometime.  A lot of work for just a sandwich though, as it's much easier to go to Cecil's, cuz they're always goodDinner

Good afternoon, diners.  Just coffee right now, Brunhilda.

Wow!  It sounds like the doctors are going to be able to buy new cars over the next several weeks.  I hope everyone with health issues has good news outcomes.  It also appears that quite a few diners have benefited (benefitted?) from modern medicine.  We often take for granted the huge discoveries and breakthroughs in medicine.

Ed, I really like all your detail work on the presidential car.  That kind of detail separates a great layout from an average layout.  I'm glad the medical procedure went well.

Brent, I hope your daughter has a good recovery.

Kevin, I know what you mean about the curse words.  I feel the same way about movies.  It's amazing that some of the best movies from the 1930s -1960s had almost no bad language, and they were still good.  I really believe that screenplay writers seem to think that they can make up for bad writing by adding bad language.

In my area, it's Sandhill Crane time.  For about the next three weeks, over 80% of the North American Sandhill Cranes will be stopping here.  There will be nearly one million cranes in about a 40-mile stretch of the Platte River.

It really is an amazing sight.  Along with the Sandhill Cranes, the Whooping Cranes also are here.  However, they are difficult to see.  When someone reports seeing a Whooping Crane, the Game and Parks wardens try to restrict access that is too close to the cranes, trying to keep crowds away from bothering the birds.

At dawn, you can stand in some elevated bird blinds near the river and watch thousands of cranes wake up and take off to find food.  After several weeks, after filling up on corn and other grain, the cranes will take off for Canada, Alaska, and some even into Siberia.

It's pretty neat to see, and it's an event that very few people know about.

Have a great day, everyone.

Edit:  I took out a photo that I thought was from Nebraska, but found out it actually was from New Mexico.  There's a little bit of difference between the two states.Oops - Sign

Good afternoon

Sounds like you got that cold wind chill up there as well Charlie.  Not liking it either, after having two days in the 40s.

The last time my engine light came on, my mechanic Damian did the diagnostic and said it was a small pinhole leak sucking air somewhere in the fuel system.  He said it wasn't that big of a deal, but the problem he said, was the light will come back on and then you won't know if something else is wrong.

They have the diagnostic testers they'll plug in for you at the auto parts stores here.  He told me to stop in and check it out.  Kind of a pain, but usually need to pick something up once in awhile anyway.  Im thinking about buying one of those things.  I've heard they're a couple hundred bucks.

Good Afternoon,

A cold day here with a nasty north wind. Not going anywhere so it doesn't matter. I have the gas fireplace on so it is nice and warm in my basement lair.

Ed, glad to hear it went well. Hope the results are negative, but even if not, don't worry as it is one that can be eradicated 100%. I speak from personal experience.

Well yesterday when I pulled into the garage I noticed the check engine light was on again. Another trip to the dealership is scheduled but the earlist I can get a loaner is the 29th. The car seems to be running fine. No sign of mice but I can't get under the engine cover. Perhaps it is damage from before that materialized while the car was running. I alerted the insurance co. just in case.

May watch more RR DVDs. I have one with footage of the DW&P in 1957 plus the Duluth & Northeastern.

Good morning everyone. It is a beautiful Friday down here. I think I am going to relax and watch a couple of my favorite movies.

A few cringeworthy moments but if that's the price to pay for early detection so be it. Tonight I'm good to go for some corned beef and Guinness!

I hope all turns out well. I am not having corned beed tonight. It will be pizza for me.

I hate it when curse words are put into good songs.

An unrecognized band, Old Man Markley, released their first album called Guts N' Teeth in 2011. The album is enjoyable and unique. I saw Old Man Markley in Tampa, and it was one of the best concerts ever.

The Album Guts N' Teeth includes a fun song titled Living And Learning, which is a fantastic song, but it drops two curse words right in the middle and just ruins it.

Anyway, rant over.

If you want to hear some amazing Punk/Bluegrass fusion, check them out.

Thanks for all the support and well wishes, folks! I was in by 7 am and home by 10 am, just the way I like it. I chose to forgo general anesthesia as I knew that would have required extra recovery time. Everyone there was friendly and professional.

Good morning

Happy Saint Patrick's Day!  Got the weekend off with Judy which is nice.  No plans for any of the festivities going on, as we're in a cold spell with below zero wind chills.

About the most exciting thing happening today, is Judy wants to go to Mickey D's for a Shamrock Shake this afternoonLaugh

Wishing positive thoughts for the best possible outcome of your biopsy EdSmile

Have a great GREEN DAY everyone.

We had a beer dinner at a local brewpub tonight.  It was the first birthday of the brewpub and also a St. Patrick's day celebration, so the main course was a very tasty corned beef and cabbage.  We sat at a table with a younger couple (they're all younger) and had a great time.  First thing I saw was his Redskins cap, which made us all instant friends.

These dinners are usually too much food, so we have leftovers for another night.

Thanks Henry,

First caught by a ColoGaurd stool test kit, ordered by my Doc. That was in December last year.

Next a colonscopy confirmed it, from a biopsy of what was removed.

Not sure if it was all out,  my GI Doc referred me to a surgeon, and a right ascending hemicolectomy, that was on Feb 23.

Biopsy of that, along with the 28 lymph nodes that were attached, tested negative, benign, for cancer.  It was labeled at stage 1 n0m0, as an earlier scan(after colonoscopy, before surgery) showed no evidence of metastic cancer, full chest, abdomin and pelvic scan.

I have 1 last post op follow up this coming Wed.

Next up is genetic testing, just to see.  Kids want to know,  haha.

Mike.

Ed good luck with your biopsy. As it is in a hospital, I hoe you are having anesthesia.  It can be done under local.

CNCharlie
Ed, my biopsy was done by my urologist in office.

Thanks fellas. The hospital just called and I'm in for 7 AM. That suits me since I'm usually up all night and I'll have to wake up Mrs. Pullman for my ride since they require a driver to be with me. Hopefully I'll be home by noon. It is a smaller local hospital and the staff is pretty friendly and easy-going.

Ed, my biopsy was done by my urologist in office. He just used freezing shots and it wasn't too bad. He took 12 samples that were done with a spring loaded gizmo. Only took a few minutes. I think the whole thing was about a half hour and I was on my way.

My insurance for my 2017 Highlander is $579 USD

That sounds good to me. We get full replacement value for four years, three million liability, $500.00 deductible, covers rental cars when we travel, and my 21-year-old daughter. Too bad I can't buy insurance in the U.S.

My father and that side of the family was Jewish.  My mother Catholic.  We always had thinly sliced, not fatty corn beef for sandwiches.  I never liked thick pieces of corned beef.

When my father was dying from cancer, my uncle told me "All your father's wives were Catholic."

All?  Why was I just finding that out at 22 y.o.?  Then I found out my mother was married before, for 2 weeks!
