Evening Railroad Fans
We are in Rogers Minnesota, hopping towns since Wednesday.
Rogers had the Railroad picture on the wall in my hotel room for my most comfortable room.
We had Judy take a picture with the Bear at Cabela's
And the April snow storm is starting, to adventurously try to drive us home, for maybe tomorrow...

My favorite memory of my father was that he took me to a Baltimore Clippers hockey game. It was ok but neither of us were real hockey fans. On the way home he let me control the radio WCAO 600 am. I remember they played the Sounds of Silence and Paint it Black.
My mother died on Monday. She suffered from Alzheimer's for the last 8 years but I think she just died because at 94 her mitochondria gave up. She was among other things, an outstanding seamstress.
She made my clothes and I think hers when I was growing up. She made my George Washington outfit for my second grade play. She also made the window treatments for my 3rd home, when I was 50. One of my partner's wife was an interior designer. Mom didn't like her and called her "that woman with the sprayed on pants" That was an accurate description.

Quick note to David. My baby brother took my daughter to London last Saturday. He is a retired batchelor who tends to spend his money on his nieces and nephews. He has made dozens of trips to London, and wanted to take her for her first trip. She is loving it. He had a slight mishap on Wednesday, falling on the steps to London Tower. He got to visit an English ER, where he learned he had a slight concussion. He was advised to rest. Daughter is continuing to sightsee; she is on a bus trip to Stonehenge and other places today. They head back late Sunday night/Monday morning.
Been a really busy week at work. We finally got current on our annual audits; not a problem I created, but one that I (and my staff) got fixed. That is a great feeling.
Water Level Route I also found out that the Bachmann Hudson I've had on pre-order for over a year has been delayed again. When I first placed my order with Trainworld, they showed an arrival date of 12/31/21. Then as each quarter came and went, they pushed the arrival date out to the end of the next quarter. Now, they simply removed the arrival date. That's not a good sign.

The wife and I are taking our youngest out for a fun lunch today at a Mexican restaurant before she has to go to work tonight. One last attempt at having some fun before her spring break is over. They have pitchers of margarita for $10 at lunch. Should make for a fun day for me too!
Waiting more and more impatiently for the weather to turn so I can start redoing our stairs. The polyurethane I want to use on the treads and risers needs temps above 50-55 to apply, and I have to prep the treads and risers in the garage which has no heat, so the neverending temps in the high 30s to low 40s is getting very annoying.

Mr. B, Coopers eat birds so it may have been hunting. We see them here even in our yaed. A couple of days ago there was a Sharpshinned hawk sitting in a tree but the crows are back and they drive off the hawks.

There's a Cooper's Hawk outside our back windows. It's a bird we've never seen here before. We used to occasionally eat at a high- end restaurant in Virginia by that name.

Mr. B, great story about you and your Dad, made me think back and I have a vivid memory of crashing my little 2 wheeler when my Dad was teaching me to ride. I wasn't hurt too bad but he said let's go see a movie, so we got in the car( '51Morris Oxford) and went to see Robin Hood. It was a summer evening in 1956.
Stiĺl cool here. We have set a record for the first March in 120 years where the temp never went above freezing. The snow is still there but luckily there isn't a lot as we could get a fast melt.
My wife wanted to watch some old trip videos that were shot on 8mm and then transferred to VHS. I dug out the player and hooked it up. It works except there is a tape in it and the eject mechanism doesn't work. I found several players on ebay for around 50 bucks so will order one.
We don't go anywhere or see anyone, not even into stores. I have to put on a mask to put the garbage bins out as someone might have gone by spewing covid. My wife's anxiety hasn't gotten better despite weekly sessions with a psychologist. Going on 5 years now. Actually he has been a big help. I won't explain why here.
Think I may run that brass Pacific today. It is a little beauty and runs great since the can motor and Tsunami sound was installed. Hard to believe it is 46 years old. The detail is really amazing.
Time to check the bird feeders. The racoon has started stopping by again every night so he thinks spring should be here. He cleans up the sunflower seed we put out for the squirrels. Putting seed out for them keeps them off the bird feeders. Besides we like them, they are very entertaining especially the red ones.

He had a monthly pass and I think I was young enough to ride the LIRR for free. We took off and just rode the NYC subways all day, back when they were clean and safe. Our fare was 15 cents each. I do think we got off for a hot dog at Coney Island.

That is indeed a wonderful memory!
My favourite memory of my dad from when I was very young involved a huge box of black licorice. We had a family cottage that was water access only and the trip in was about 24 miles. I wasn't allowed to go into the cottage until I was seven years old. On my first trip 'down the bay' I was having the time of my life, and then my dad sweetened the experience by reaching behind the boat seat mid trip and pulling out a commercial sized box of black licorice! I was in heaven!!! Open boat, beautiful calm sunny weather and a fist full of black licorice!!!!!!! I will never forget!
