Well, I had a little 24 hour respite from both the internet and electricity. yesterday afternoon winds blasted through here peaking around 70 MPH in some areas. Our power went out around 2 PM. After a little reading by candlelight and doing a few crosswords the old fashioned way, paper and pencil, I fired up the trusty ol' generator around 6 pm. Quite a few trees down and that sort of thing.

Our neighbor has three horses and I asked Dee Ann to text her to see if she needed water for them. Neighbor was at work until 8pm and she replied YES she did need water (they're new to 'country' living and sometimes forget that their well pump needs watts and amps) so I gathered fifteen empty distilled water jugs we had around and filled them for her.

Happy horses, thankful neighbor. I told her it wouldn't be a bad idea to get a few 55 gallon barrels and keep some water on hand for such emergencies.

Back to catching up on news and such on the WWW.

Good morning everyone. Chloe, let me try your oatmeal today, maybe with a few raisins mixed in. Thank you.

-  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -

There is nothing on eBay model-train related that I am bidding on right now, and I have not won an auction in weeks. The least few items I bought were high-end craftsman kits. I would like to get Dunkelmeyer's Creamery from Micro-Scale Models, but there is one on Brass Trains Dot Com right now for just $150.00, and I just won't pull the trigger. I really can't even think of anything else I want to buy.

Good morning

Hoping for a early Spring here like everyone is.

The highlight of the weekend was, Judy took me to PF Chang's for the sea bass, it was mighty scrumptiousDinner

NorthBrit

Where to take the Diner for April?

Would trains operating through scenery work for a month?

That sounds like an interesting idea David.  Scenery certainly covers a wide variety of possibilities.

You have your bridge scenes, your tunnel scenes, your mountain scenes, your water scenes, your city scenes and many, many more.  Sounds good to me.

PS.   Why thank you kind sir.  I'll join ya in a belated Happy Birthday toast, a bit later this afternoonSmile, Wink & Grin

Enjoy your Sunday everyone.

Good morning to all!

Had about 7" of the wet "mashed" potato snow yesterday, slowly melting away.

John, I've watched a lot of box cars while track side, and seen a zillioin photos, but I have never seen one with a door opener like that!

Good morning, diners.  Just coffee this morning -- it's donut day.

Well.... just when I thought Spring was here, we woke up this morning to a blanket of snow.  Not much, but enough to turn everything white again.  Grumpy

I really have no ideas or preferences for the diner's next stop.  I enjoy whatever anyone can post, so where we go doesn't really matter to me.  The Gulf Coast of the U.S. has quite a few railroads that could be interesting.

Today I'm still working on a control panel for some turnout lights and switches.  The way I thought I would do it didn't work well and didn't look good, so today I hope to get that straightened out.

It's time to head out the door -- I hope everyone has a great and relaxing day of rest Sunday.

Good Evening,

TF, that was funny.

My wife does Wordle every day. She has it set to difficult mode, has  a 60 second time limit and does it in 2 or 3 tries. She has even done it in one a few times.

Today I ran the mike with a freight. It is now in the engine house and the pacific with the local is ready to leave the station.

Had our usual Saturday pizza while watching Endeavour. We avoid commercials by recording on the pvr.

Here are a few more unusual pieces of rolling stock.

This one looks like it has been in front end collision:

Not quite sure what this is:

Is this a creation by a scale modeller who lives in a really rainy part of the country?

Half way through the repaint process:

I wonder if the railroads still burn off the weeds next to the track? I can't see that being a very good idea these days.

I have never seen one of these before. It is a British Railways kerosene powered GT-3. It was a bit of a failure:

Jay Leno would want one of these:

Talk about an oversized boiler!

Just try lifting this beauty off of the tracks to avoid an oncoming train!

This steam turbine is a real monster!

An armoured train:

Another Michelin rubber wheeled experiment:

Time to start thinking about where to take the Diner for April. Any suggestions?

Cheers!!

Dave

Greetings from southern Command, man what a night with severe weather, A relaly bad torndao went south of us last night.  We were driving to go hear some blues music and drove thru the side of another severe storm with tornado. sidways rain etc. had to slow down to a crawl to see. Major flash flooding occured. there was a car lot that was 4 ft under water, they were trying to get the cars out at midnight last night. Our road tothe southern command had been under water, but the water was gone when we got back,

Well, I clicked on one of those clickbait traps. This one was titled "25 Hobbies To Leave Off Your Dating Profile".

I wanted to see where my hobbies came in.

Wargaming did not make the list, but "Action Figure Collecting" was #22, and it included Warhammer 40K in the description.

Photography was not on the list at all.

Model Railroading came in at #3, beat out for the top spot by weightlifting and sports card collecting.

This is the picture that was included for Model Railroading:

What is happening there? Who wears a hard hat to play with their model trains? I think this poor guy has a "Bob The Builder" cosplay hobby overlap.

Laugh

By the way, cosplay did not make the list either, but Larping was #25. How is Larping less embarassing than Sports Card Collecting?

Good morning all. Just finished moving about 6" of wet heavy snow out of the driveway. While I am ready for spring, it was absolutely beautiful this morning when I got up. Gorgeous heavy snowfall. I do love that.

Ray, congratulations on your granddaughter's achievement. That is very cool!

Hope everyone has a good Saturday!

Kevin, I'm thinking that the color of the material is not at all familiar to MRers. Is it something different than what our kits and cars are cast in? Or the same material but in a tone that is perhaps more common for gaming items?

The resins that Armorcast and Forge World use are both more flexible, and smoother than the resins used by Westerfield, Yarmouth, and Sunshine.

They are more durable, but more difficult to drill. The soft material clogs drill bits. They are also much easier to cut, which can be a blessing and a curse.

Attuvian1
How quickly might you be painting it? If you do, be sure to post some photos on line. We love seeing your work in this genre.

It will be a while. I still do not have my painting desk set up.

Wow!  Yep, I am old enough to remember when we had 30 second commercials!  That was a while ago!

Today you get 30 seconds of program followed by 4 minutes and 30 seconds of commercials!

That is why I DON'T watch the idiot box any more!!! ;)

Good morning

Judy watches TV quit a bit, usually while I'm doing something else.  Sometime I'll switch the idiot box on in the background just to keep me company while she's at work.

Couldn't help but notice all they have is Insurance, drug, and lawyer garbage for commercials anymore.  Remember the commercials in the 70s, which at least had a little humor or entertainment to them?

Ran across this one with a bit of that old world charm.  Thought it might bring one of our well liked friends here, out of hidingSmile

Well!!!  Good Morning everyone!  Fine day here in the Finger Lakes Region even if the weather is YUK!

Why am I so happy this morning?  Glad you asked!

Yesterday my Sophomore Granddaughter who plays Bassoon recieved a large packet of music in the mail.....  I think she was up all night practicing.  Today she is at The Smith Opera House in Geneva (very famous theater) rehearsing for a concert at 2pm.  She and several other students from schools nearby are playing in a concert with the 198th United States Army Band!

The 198th is stationed in Rochester NY and plays all over the Northeast US.

Papa Howard didn't get much sleep last night.  LOL  I will be meeting the rest of the family in the lobby of the Smith before the concert.

I got an update from Ulrich a couple of days ago.

They are now in their new apartment. They had a few minor issues during the move but apparently nothing serious. He didn't provide any details.

I have encouraged him to ask to rejoin the forums and he said he would consider it once they were settled in to their new home. I hope MR would be amenable to that. He did break the rules but he was in a pretty dark place mentally at the time.

Cheers!!

I agree with you, I think this will be difficult. You want to help her as much as you can, but you also have to do some things because of time or situation. Good luck!

It was actually a very pleasent visit. I shared a lot of stories about Chris that she had not heard.

We have a plan. I am going to try to take all of the collection (there is a ton of stuff) to the Historical Miniature Gaming Society convention in Orlando that will be in a few weeks. I will try to sell everything there and she wants to donate everything from the sale to Hope Hospice.

When I saw this piece, my eyes lit up. It is a Chaos Cauldron Of Blood from 1995, the golden age of Warhammer 40,000 when things were a lot more whimsical.

She insisted I take it home with me.

Anyone see the Northern Lights last night?  They were visible here at 11 pm but I did not know they were coming.  Tonight it's cloudy.

We were told they were visible here in Nebraska, which is very unusual.  It's cloudy tonight in our area.

Good afternoon, everyone.  It's late in the day for me -- I'll have a BLT for lunch.

BATMAN
John, where are you going in Europe?

We land in Munich and will rent two vans to fit us all.  We'll drive to see some places in Germany for several days, then through Austria into Italy.  In Italy, we'll get rid of the vans, and for a couple of weeks we will use the trains, since they will go to most of the places we want to see.  I'm along for the ride.  My daughters have done these trips several times, so I guess I trust they know what they're doing.  (I hope)

They are building a new bridge near us, and our house is shaking all day from the pile driver.  I went down to watch them for a while, and those pilings are not going down real easily.

Have a great Friday, everyone.
