qJust dropped in to say hello.
This weekend we're going to have a "fun nite" in our local congregation. I'm going to plunk my guitar in two different acts. In one I've teamed up with a beginning violinist and we'll do "Swallowtail Jig." I've been wanting to do Celtic music and work with a violinist for some time. It will be fun. Maybe it'll be incentive to get my chops back up to performance level again. Been a long long time. The other act will be a 12 bar blues with another guitar player. He's going to play lead and I'll throw in the rhythm. Not going to improvise much with the chords. Tempting, but we'll play it fairly straight. Really looking forward to this.
Also been playing around with the old Atlas/John Armstrong "Yardmaster" track plan on paper. That was the track plan I had when I was a kid, but instead of a cross track, the figure 8 was an over under, which made for one steep grade on the downside of it. I'll probably never build it, but it's fun to plan.

The yellow paint and prominant Xes are to indicate this car is in excess of forty years old. No interchange. None of these H-1 class cars ever had rotary couplers as near as I can tell.

York1 Good morning, diners. Yesterday I mentioned I needed to change a turn signal light. It turned out to be a five minute job. I spent more time walking to the shed to get a bulb than it took to actually change it. I was surprised that the six-year-old Expedition uses the same bulb as my 20-year-old Durango. I had an extra bulb so I didn't even need a trip to the car parts store. The truest sign of old age -- I got a letter indicating I have to begin withdrawals from an IRA. I wonder what I can spend that extra money on each month? I will have to travel to Spring Creek Model Railroad store for some ideas! (Let's keep it going, diners, to move the page.)

Speaking of K cars, I had a Lebaron coupe that I drove for 12 years and was quite trouble free. A guy at work had a '87 Lebaron hatchback he used to commute. He put over 300k miles on it.
Nothing new here, I watched the last of my Canadian steam dvds today. It was Don Krofta's film done in 1958. Lots of great footage including K5a Hudsons. Sound too.

Good morning from the cloudy West Coast where it is 8c.
John, the feds had bought a couple of K-car wagons that I would occasionally drive around the airport. At the time I thought it would be ideal for my retired parents and drove it over to their place for a look. My Mom could get three dog crates in it for her dogs and was sold. They had it for quite a while and then she bought two Voyager vans after that. My wife also owned two Dodge Caravans, altogether five on that frame between my Mom and wife. Never had a problem with any of them.
I really like that Orca model, it would go perfectly with my "Molly's Reach" (a Canadian thing) at my harbour scene.
Henry, thanks for the best wishes for my sister. There is a 98% ten-year survival rate. She is mad that she has to cancel her dog show judging schedule all down through South America and then across to NZ and OZ. She loves that trip. She is a real fighter and will likely make it next year.
My Daughter has to write an online exam today and then it is a couple of Dr. appointments to deal with her newly discovered issues. She will likely schedule the surgeries over the summer once she is done with school. She works for the feds and will want to work around the summer schedule there as well. I will then take her to the ferry. Three more weeks until she is home for the summer. I will get the piano tuned while I am waiting.
My son showed up yesterday, he needed to get away from his desk and wanted to go for a rip in his Mustang. It was a beautiful sunny day and the highway was empty so it was just what he needed. He went to the local pool to swim and work out and is looking pretty good. He was not happy about his fitness level and his workload was cutting in on his rec time. I would like to see him back playing hockey.
Time to hop on the bike and then go for a scoot with the dog.

Just got off the phone with the roofer. I have three quotes, and they are all within $500.00 of each other. I am going to go with the one that has communicated the best.
I am looking at a late June completion date. I guess I rushed to finish the soffit for no reason.
I am getting a 22ga steel snap standing seam hidden fastener roof. It is a high end residential option, and I sure hope it is worth the money.
This better be the last roof I ever buy... another lifetime supply!

Good morning. It was a busy weekend of visiting grandchildren. It's always an adventure to eat meals with little kids.
Another busy week shaping up -- doctors, stores, house projects, meetings, etc. I like weeks where there is not a single thing on the calendar.
And then -- last night on the Interstate I found one of our turn signal lights was out. That will be my first order of business this morning. I hope it is easy to reach. In the past, I've had to change bulbs in some difficult to reach places on other cars. I think the car designers do that on purpose -- secretly laughing over their designs while thinking of someone like me trying to reach inaccessible places on the car.
After we were first married, we bought one of the Plymouth K car station wagons. I was amazed to find the oil filter right on the front of the motor where you could replace it with no effort and barely getting your hands dirty. I thought those car designers were probably fired over that one.
In spite of the bad news about those cars, we drove that one forever with very few repairs, with it being handed down kid to kid for a high school car.

Good morning everyone. Chloe, I am in the mood for one of those toasted coconut macroons you have in the case. Also, I would like a lot of cream with my coffee today.
We received a good sized bonus at work yesterday for exceeding all goas for the past four months. The reason we exceeded all goals was because of Hurricane Ian, not because of anything we did.
Anyway, it was a nice extra plus in the budget.

It's a cold one this morning, 25 F and not a cloud in the sky. This may kill off our daffodils.
Brent I wish your sister a successful outcome. I'm not sure one ever comes to terms with it. My wife had it in 2019 and it's something she thinks about every day. She is on a hormone suppressant for 10 years and that causes hand swelling and pain. She also has lymphedema from the radiation. Her sister has had it in both breasts and neither have any genetic markers for cancer.
When we moved to VA her new oncologist (a woman, because they care) told her her type of tumor had a high reoccurance rate and was very hard to treat if they do recurr. All true but it's not useful to hear that every 3 months. She switched oncologists after that.
I placed an order Thursday night for turnouts and NCE USB adapter from Trainworld. I'm finally going to try JMRI. It was shipped Friday and is sitting in the local post office this morning. Our mail carrier won't deliver it until tomorrow and usually she doesn't get here until 5-6 pm.
Good day eh. It was an absolutely stunning day today in the sunshine at 18c. It was T-shirt only all day and I sat out on the patio and played my guitar for two hours for the first time this year.
Daughter is home and the grand piano has had the lid lifted and music is filling the house. She also made a large batch of cupcakes, for her cupcakes I will cheat on the very low-carb diet.
My sister stopped by and brought me a really nice bottle of red wine for being a great brother. I think she has come to terms with her breast cancer and will have surgery in a few days.
Bear, Great shot of New Brighton Beach. I have fond memories of Christchurch, sightseeing by day and wrestling with a gorgeous girl from Switzerland at night that I met in NZ. I think of her a lot.
I was going to take the day off in the exercise department but one of the mutts escaped from the dogpool. How could I turn down that look so it was a quick 5km to make him happy.

My next door neighbors to the South are moving out. This is very sad. They are the last neighbors I really like. They were a large multi-generational family sharing the house and were great people, and my favorite neighbors.
My wife went to the court records and looked at the case involving their house. What a mess. There have been legal issues for the past few years. They were led to believe they had purchased the house, but the contract was insanely complicated, and ruled not to be valid.
They had put a new roof on the house and done other major renovations. The owner of the property has been ordered to pay them $40,000.00 and refund the last three years of payments, but he keeps the house.
I hope they actually get that money.
I hate getting new neighbors, especially since most houses around here are occupied by far more people than they were intended to hold. For most people, the only way to afford one of these houses is to occupy them with two or three families. This brings all kinds of extra problems.
Oh well. Nothing I can do about it. I will hope for the best.

Similar to Bear, a Chinese man showed me how they cooked vegetables. I never looked back after that.
On a cruise ship a little while back an Indian chef showed me how to cook Indian food.
Years back I never entertained food beyond the U.K.. Now I cook meals with flavours from around the world. Asian and Italian being favourites.
