Planned on smoking my turkey today, but on my last cook on the Big Green Egg, a huge piece of charcoal knocked in a chunk of the firebox, that was only cracked before.

Cooked the turkey today 4:30 in the oven and the breast was 180 and the thigh was only 150.  Cut it apart and cooked the legs and thighs another 30 min.  Wife cooked the mashed potatoes today,  didn't know you could do that.

Dodged an invitation from my ex tomorrow, and will be entertaining my wife's sister in law, daughter and friend and my mom.

Happy Thanksgiving to all my Diner friends and Forum friends.

Henry: I hope you have a happy Thanksgiving as well.

.

Since the girls have moved away, my wife and I try to spend a few days each November on the beach.

.

We are now in Daytona for the next few days. It is absolutely lovely here. The hotel is almost empty. There are only about ten cars in the parking lot.

.

I really feel for you guys that are enduring that storm. Take care.

.

We arrived just as the sun was going down, so the picture lighting is poor.

 Eveing Diners

Flo, give the gang and I a Beer please and Dirk his Buffalo.

Last year we had Thanksgiving diner at Golden Corral due to my wife resent knee replacment. While I missed the leftover it was a blessing in many other ways.

Not this year. We are hosting again for our daugher and her husband. While it is a small turkey at only 14 pounds it should be good with me cooking it. Wife over cooks them and when I try to lift them out of the pan the back bone would pull out.

My wife micowave's the stuffing, while it sounds gross it is quite good. For me the stuffing is the worst part of Thanksgiving! With being a diabetic the stuffing shoots my glucose levels into the 230 range. OK one day that would not kill me. But there will be stuffing in this house for the next 4 days. Dinner

Later None Smoking Ken and Dirk say's Bring On The Turkey Woof Woof.

Happy Thanksgiving to all my Forum friends here. Yes, the MR forum has its little quirks with sign-in, spell chekker and photo hosting but, overall, this is a good place to hang out.

Thank you Mr. Otte and all your cohorts for maintaining a place where we can all rub elbows and share some stories, railroad or otherwise, let off a little steam — with just a hint of coal smoke in the air — and have a good, safe place to chat and reminisce.

Thanks to our moderator, Tom Stage (are you the sole survivor ?) and lets not forget the others that have passed through these doors before us.

Thank you, everyone. It is a pleasure to know you and to have the time to spend with you.

(side note:) Back in 1974, Thanksgiving dinner was $4.50. Today a bottle of water is almost $4.00. Just a hint of inflation at work. That's if you can even find a diner on an Amtrak train anymore.

Now if any of you would like to partake in Thanksgiving dinner before we round Horseshoe Curve, follow me to the Budd, twin-unit diners located toward the middle of the train.

Hi Ed,

Couldn't have said it better!

Happy Thanksgiving to all our USA friends!!! I hope the storm doesn't do too much harm!

Interesting menu! $4.50 for a proper turkey dinner!! Sounds incredibly cheap. Maybe somebody can convert that in to 2019 dollars.

Also, interesting ad for Pabst Blue Ribbon beer! 'Let's keep everybody drinking all day and then have them pass out drunk at night!!'LaughLaughBeerThumbs UpLaugh

Thanks, Dave SmileYes

Yeah, the Pabst ad is sure a period piece.

Lunch? Time for a Pabst. Dinner? Ditto. Right hand curve ahead? I think I'll have a Pabst. Signal bridge, time for another.

Judging by some of the anecdotes I've read, Lucius Beebe, et. al. — on many trains the booze and beer flowed like it was boiler wash.

Happy Turkey - Day!

My oh my! The countdown till Christmas has begun - only four more weeks and only 5 more  till the year is done! What a year! Few pleasant surprises, but lots of unpleasant ones. It is not yet the time for New Year´s resolutions, but I sure hope that next year will be a better one and our move to Denmark will actually happen!

I spent the entire day "assembling" the single unit house into a duplex. Basically a copy and paste job, but I had to do a number of corrections, so I spent way more time on it than I had figured. Well, it´s done now, but I won´t bore you with more pictures. Afterall, this is a model railroading forum and not an architectural one! The drawings are complete to be sent to builders for quotes, once I get the green light from Sylvia. I also have a few properties lined up, which could be worth having a look at. Not this year, but next!

Have a happy holiday with your loved ones and a sumptuous turkey feast!

Happy times!

Happy Thanksgiving from Daytona Beach.

.

There was a beautiful sunrise this morning.

.

.

.

And now the beach is completely empty. I walked in the surf for an hour and only saw two other people.

.

.

Thanksgiving dinner will either be Chinese Take Out of Cracker Barrel for me this year.

Everyone be safe.

Wishing all a Happy Thanksgiving. Front just passing over the Island at present, wind has gone from NE to NW, gusting to 40, 36 deg.

Mother wants to eat around 7 PM. Today's dinner is lobster, sea food stuffing (shrimp, crabmeat--I picked out just over two pounds--and diced lobster meat)

and broccoli.

Hope all are warm, well fed, and safe.

 Eveing Diners!

Flo, give the gang and I a Beer please and Dirk needs more Turkey! Dinner He Lovvvves Turkey.

Very Good Turkey Day! Big Smile Stuffing was good, trukey was good and the green bean casserole was good. Enjoyed seeing Sharon and Shawn and we had some good conversations.

Dirk was so well behaved we all where impressed with him. I did give him a little truckey but not much! He finally got to explore the living room and dinning room, it had been a mystery to him till today.

I think it is time for a new TV for the family room. One I am using now is a old RCA TV that is, well 35 years old. I am fine with the picture quality but the sound is just about dead. Boy TV's have changed! Bang Head I don't know if getting old sucks rail spikes or newer technolory sucks rail spikes. More than likely getting old.

Old fart none smoking Ken and Dirk say's I want Truckey!

Good evening and Happy Turkey Day to all those celebrating Thanksgiving today.

It was yet another sunny day today but as the Sun has set we are at 0c. That is considered quite cold for this part of the continent.

Ken, that TV of yours has had a long run and sure doesn't owe you anything. My favourite big TV is getting on and is showing its age, I am looking forward to a new smart TV. I really like being able to mirror videos and pics off the phone which it only takes a second to do.

Speaking of video, I deleted all my You-Tube videos as that new COPPA law is ridiculous and I just don't want anything to do with You-Tube. I was surprised that there had been 7000 views in the time I had the channel, I would never have guessed. There were also 45 subscribers and I have no idea what that meant.

I think Herrinchoker had the best Thanksgiving menu that I have seen. MMMMMMMdoggie that did sound good.

I got all my Christmas lights up yesterday, not quite the display I use to do. When I was young and had the energy it was an all-out war between my best friend and I to have the best display. I was in the papers as one of the houses you should drive by. The power meter would be spinning so fast we had to try and cool it down.Laugh Christmas spirit was measured by total wattage in those days.Laugh

Last year both my sister and wife bought me high-quality laser projectors so I have two set up as I write this. I was a little skeptical about them but these ones really put on a high-quality show. I think I still prefer old style decorating.

This time of year is tough on #1 son in Ottawa as he loves the season and we always did a ton of stuff related to the season like getting hampers for the less fortunate delivered. Some years our garage was stuffed to the rafters with hamper stuff that would get taken to the school and sorted out and then delivered.

I bought myself a CMX track cleaning car to open on Christmas morning. I often buy myself something and when I open it go WOW THANKS SANTA! Then, who got me this? The whole family all start looking at each other saying, not me.Laugh You would think that after all these years they would catch on.MischiefLaughPirate

I started lifting a few more weights a couple of weeks ago as I did not feel up to specs. I was surprised that my strength has pretty much doubled in that short period of time. I just try and stay toned, no big muscles on this guy. I know my wife tries to stay attractive for me, so I try and do the same. Just as long as she looks from the neck down she should be happy.Laugh

Well, I think I,ll see what's on the tube, I know why I didn't watch much TV in my life until recently, though I did go to a lot of movies to unwind after a long day. Watching the tube seems like such a waste of time, unfortunately, that's all I feel like doing some nights. I would go a long time without sleep sometimes and it never bothered me, not sure how I would do now.SleepSigh

All the best to all.

Brent

Hi maxman,

I couldn't help but to laugh at your comment. I don't drink a lot of beer, but I do know what I like and none of the American beers that we are offered in Canada appeal to me. I like a beer with some taste to it, not something that meerly wets my throat.

Interestingly, my favourite brew is Corona. That is one thing that the Mexicans have mastered! My second choice would be Alexander Keith's. Moosehead lager is pretty good too.

Thinking of those brands has made me thirsty despite the fact that it is 3:30 in the morning. I have all of them in the fridge right behind where I sit, but I will pass. Time for bed.

Good Morning All,

And a belated Happy Thanksgiving. Eldest sons sister in law (theres a mouthful) hosted dinner at her home. She and her husband just moved into their new to them home so she wanted to show it off. Nice house.

Had the entire family together - oldest and his wife and Sam the grand kid. Daughter and boyfriend both managed to get time off (they are both nurses), middle son and wife came up from the city for most of the day and my youngest son flew out from California so a rare occasion. Also didn't have the Turkey Bowl this weekend so I was home as well (nothing like Thanksgiving dinner in Va at a Waffle House - the only place open Thanksgiving day in Winchester).

Hope you all had a good day as well. Back in the shop today to finish loading for Sebring.       Ciao, J.R.

.

I would like to know more as well.

.

The B&O docksiders supposedly weight 120,000 pounds alone, and that trailer looks to be set up as Gross Vehicle Weight of 120,000 pounds.

.

Is it actually a prop or parade float, and not a real locomotive? Maybe it is a lighter locomotive since all the B&O 0-4-0s were scrapped in the 1950s.

.

Anyway, I got a good chuckle from it.

Yeah, it wouldn't have been the stuffing, wine or pumpkin pie.

My wife's SiL, daughter and daughter's best friend came over.  Supposedly the best friend had no where else to go, but she showed up right before dinner and left immediately after desert because she had someplace to go.

My wife's brother passed away 3 years ago with his CPAP mask on.  He looked like he was pregnant with twins or triplets but his wife was very thin.  Now she is the thinnest human being I have ever seen in person.  Imagine pictures of Civil War or Japanese POW's or concentration camp victims.

I was told not to discuss it because she is very "sensitive" about her weight.  I guess she is, she has to be anorexic.
