Railroadfan1Do you know the story behind the moving of the locomotive and the type of locomotive?
I believe that's Barney Gramling's Lehigh Coal Co. 126 locomotive.
The Gramlings have a couple small tank engines they take on "tour".

Hard to tell from that fuzzy photo.
I used to bum cab rides from Barney when he was an engineer on the Indiana Northeastern. Great guy!
Looks like I hit the Top- O' the Page!
Leftover Turkey and cranberry flambé for everyone!
Lots of Wassail to wash it down, too.

We are approaching the end of the month. This will be my last picture update for our time in Georgia.
.
I have posted a couple of County Courthouses previously. These that follow are some of my favorites:
And finally... MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE BUILDING IN GEORGIA.
This is the Dooley County Courthouse in Vienna, Georgia. I love this building becuse it looks like it was designed by the architecture students at Hogwart's School. It has a Wizard Tower and an crazy chimney in the front.
I love it!
Well, that was Georgia from my point of view. I have enjoyed this month.

Living the dream.
The Gramlings own two engines. The one shown on Garry´s picture is #126 of the Lehigh Valley Coal Co. John and Barney Gramling take their engines on the road to operate steam trains all over the country.
Happy times!

Eveing Diners.
Flo, the gang and I will have a and Dirk a small dog treat.
Well today has sucked rail spike! Been sick to my stomach all day Dirk all so woke up feeling bad.I wonder if the turkey was left out to long? I had the turkey done at 11:30 AM but my daughter called and she and Shawn would be over to 2:00 PM. As I predicthed to my wife, she showed up at 2:30 PM. We had what I would call lunch and chatted for a hour or so. Turckey got left out for about 4 hours.
I felt fine after lunch, well a little full but not I had a late diner and and it was turkey. Have not eaten a thing today and every time I belch, taste turkey.
Daughter bought me a new TV! This a double edge sword. While it was very sweet of her if for some reason I don't like it? Well there will be heck to pay. More than likely it will be fine.
Stereo I use in the garage has died! Problem is it is a high end unit with a Carver 4000t Pre Amp, Adcom Speaker Slector, Adcom 565 Bridge Mono Block amps and then Keff speakers. Real problem is figuering out what died? It is the sound system I use for the computer.
Later None Smoking and Dirk says Woof.

I enjoyed your photographs as well. Thank you!
Ed,
Thank you for the video. I enjoyed the info.

Good Evening,
An exciting day for me. My K5 was delivered! Well it is at my friends in Thief River Falls, but still it is nearly here. I'll go down and pick it up sometime this month. I saved a lot on shipping by sending it there and if I stay over 48 hours I won't have to pay any duty or tax. I had him inspect it and it looks like it is all intact. I still can hardly believe I found one with factory paint. Most I've come across have been brass and getting one painted would be very expensive due to the multi-colours and gold pin stripping.
Today I went to a specialty grocery store here and bought my mincemeat tarts. They are getting hard to find as I guess they aren't popular with the younger crowd. I do enjoy a nice mincemeat tart at Christmas. These were made in Scotland as are most commercial ones. My wife doesn't share my enthusiasim for them. Not part of her heritage I suppose.
Ken, I'm not surprised you are having tummy problems if you left your turkey out for 4 hours! By the way every dog we have owned got sick if they ate turkey. Don't know why as chicken was alsways ok. Sorry to hear about your amp. We use a 25 year old AR amp for the sound on our TV with a pair of Paradigm speakers. I haven't heard any of those new systems that are any better even with 4 or 5 speakers.
Well I've been running the C Liner lately and really like it especially considering it is a diesel. It is a very smooth runner and also had a remarkably powerful headlight.
Well time to go downstairs and watch some tellie.

Railroadfan1Thank you for the video. I enjoyed the info.
Ken you didn't get your turkey from Corpral Klinger did you? The whole MASH camp came down with salmonela. Sgt Rizzo asked "Sam and Ella? who are they ? "
Garry I saw that picture on the Face of book earlier.
Kevin, Thanks for the photos and the tour.

Okay Charlie, that's gonna hurt my already too large waistline! I haven't had a mincemeat tart in years. When I was a kid we always had mincemeat tarts at Christmas. I loved them! I'm going to have to find some now that you have reminded me of them.
Cheers!!

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
Good Morning!
Saturday, November 30th! Just got home from my end of the month banking run, getting the account statements and drawing some cash from the ATM. Germany is still very much a "cash country".
As the month is coming to an end, it´s time to find a new location for the upcoming month of December, preferably a location where Santa will find us, which excluded the North Pole! How about Christmas in Vermont, or Maine?
Petra and I will start to decorate our home for the season this afternoon. Most of the Christmas decoration stuff is up in the attic, where it is quite cold. Unfortunately I don´t have any light up there right now, as the bulb in the one and only lamp in the room is out. I just grabbed any bag within my reach, hoping it was the right one. It was, but we need other stuff from up there. I need to buy a new flashlight, so I can put a new bulb in. That will have to wait until coming Monday!
Hope you all have a good one!
After four weeks away from the house, my wife and I are finally heading home today, but first we have some "Small Business Saturday" shopping to take care of.
This is the last sunrise picture from Daytona Beach.
Tinplate ToddlerAs the month is coming to an end, it´s time to find a new location for the upcoming month of December,
I have no preference at all.
However, I want to thank you all for the placement of the diner in Georgia this month. This was the only time I have made a suggestion for diner placement, and I am glad you allowed me my request.
BigDaddy BroadwayLion LION ate too much of that home-made sourdough bread Yeah, it wouldn't have been the stuffing, wine or pumpkin pie.
LION ate only a normal portion of stuffing, a skimpy amout of dark meat turkey, and some wonderful sweet potatoes with a carmel glaze with walnuts. LION had no pumpkin pie, but him did eat about six slices of the sourdough bread. Good and CRUNCHY.

Where are we going tomorrow ???
Maybe we should try Omah Nebraska, I hear they have some trains there. nMaybe they are all filled with corn husks.

Hey Kevin-
Okay, you got a great coffee table book of community churches and one of county courthouses in Georgia.
When you get back to the Sunshine State, I need you to run around and get some photos of ante-bellum plantation houses and turn-of-the-(last)-century mansions. You know, living in Florida before air conditioning. To deal with the heat and humidity, a particular vernacular architectural style evolved that was called 'Carpenter Gothic' or 'Conch'. It was also called 'Cracker', which is a perfectly good descriptor but nowadays some people might look askance at that term. Sad.
Anyhow, I need some prototype mansions to use as reference for the maritime museum I intend to build on the cliff next to my St Augustine inspired lighthouse.
Thanks.
Robert

And..... Gained how many pounds? LOL
Afternoon folks! I ate at least as much as Lion, twice on Thanksgiving and again went over to my son's house for "leftovers" last night and made the mistake of getting on the scales this morning.... UP 5 LBS.!!!!!!!! Grrrrrrrrrrrr.... Back to dieting. Only problem is they will "officially" celebrate my birthday (which was last Tuesday) this Sunday. The Fieldhouse was closed yesterday through Sunday for the Holiday, so I didn't get my run in yesterday either. That said, this last week has been a wonderful week! Yesterday, I got a beautiful and sweet Birthday Card from a certain Lady I really like. Called her last night when I got and opened the card. She had hoped it would get to me by my Birthday, but seemed pleased that I really was touched by the sentiments in it..... (grin)
Back on my normal schedule next week, I guess. I am again cleaning out "stuff" (I'd use a different word but don't want to get banned) around the house again. Amazing how much "stuff" gets accumulated over the years.....
Sun is shining here in the Finger Lakes at the moment, but tonight they are calling for cold sleet, freezing rain and sn*w. About 2 to 4 inches of "Partly Cloudy" white "stuff"...
Next Month? Wherever the diner goes, I'll try to be aboard.... Have a great one out there!

Good Afternoon,
A very pleasant -2C here today even if it is cloudy.
Dave, the only brand of commercial mincemeat tarts I could find are Jacobsens. They are a bit small and come in a black box. Mind you they are good ones though. If you can find ones made by Walkers, they are really good. Haven't seen them here for a couple of years. Did you order Ian Wilson's latest book? Hopefully my copy will be delivered today. He really does great work on Ontario steam. I assume you have his 'Steam at Allendale' books. Great photos of the station, yard and trains at Collingwood, Penetang, etc. not to mention Allendale.
No plans on going out today. The traffic will be crazy. I plan on going to the gym tomorrow and also I have to pick up more bird seed. We feed squirrels too. Every day a pack of about 6 greys come over the fence. There are 3 or 4 reds too that live in the yard. Although they are half the size of a grey they will send a grey packing if they get too close to their territory. Each red has a section of the yard that they regard as theirs and will drive off intruders. Fun to watch.
The photos of the engine I bought are still on the seller's website so I might just look at them again. Have any of you taken the shell off of a brass steam loco? Looks like it is just held on by screws from the bottom.
Good Evening!
I got my first offer back from one of the builders. It was way beyond what I had expected it to be. The reason for the dramatic increase over my first estimate was the fact, that it cannot be built at their site, as each module is too wide to be transported economically all the way from their site in Greece. It would have to be built "from scratch" on site, which adds a significant amount to the toatal cost. That idea has to be discarded. However, they came up with a counter-proposal, based on two regular 40`shipping containers. It´s an excellent basis to build on, so back to the drawing board is the name of the game.
Jingle bells, jingle bells,

Oh, btw, just before I call it a day - who is going to move the diner? I know one person, and his name is "not me" this time!
Eveing Diners
Flo, give the gang and I a and Dirk his treat.
Dirk had been waking up sick to his stomach of late. Wife seems to think it is beacuse of his Blue Ballalo treats are wheat base. So I have chagned the treats to a Pedigree treat yesterday. He wanted his breakfest this morning so maybe she is right?
Sadly I threw away 3/4 of the Trucky Today. I hate wasting food or anything, but I wanted to be safe. I never blew chunks Friday but is sure felt like ash pitt.
Computer Sound System. Messed with it some and still DOA. Going to be a pain in the caboose taking it all apart. I have a tuner, cassette deck, speaker selector, CD Carrier (fancy word for CD Player) Sub Woofer Amp, Pre Amp and 2 mono block amps with seprate fan for the amps heat sinks.
So I took to easy way out for today. Bought a $20.00 set of computer speakers from Wally World.
Later Ken and Dirk say's "You Threw Away The Turckey?"
Good Evening All,
I'll have a glass of Pinot Noir please and some bacon bits for Bristol and Rattie please. VSCCA winter dinner got postponed until after the new year as we are to have sleet and snow tomorrow. First time in a decade I was home for it but there you go. It was at West Point and the roads to get there are mickle twisty and most of us are game but north of 60. Actually my best friend in the club is north of 90 but he doesn't drive anymore as he's confined to a wheel chair. At any rate with the postponement we decided to go out to dinner tonight to celebrate our anniversary a day early and beat the weather. 39 years so far. Oh and I turn 70 tomorrow as well.
Ken sad you had to toss the turkey but safety first. I gave the woofies left over ham instead. Do you have headphones and a headphone jack on the amp or pre amp? Plug into the CD or cassette and see if sound occurs. If that's good, plug into the amp and see if sound occurs. Only time I ever lost both speakers was when I blew out the transformers at full volume (don't ask - alcohol may have been involved along with "hey listen to this").
Been in the basement detailing bridges and some other spots while cleaning.
Kevin. if I didn't mention it, you did yeoman work this month with the pics of Georgia. Shame you can't make Sebring either but we will start again in February next year if all goes to plan with West Palm then twice at Sebring in March. If you haven't been to a vintage race it's usually fun especially for a first timer. instead of hiding the cars as they do at pro races now, most teams let you walk right in and look all you want. Pictures? No problem. It's one of the reasons I still enjoy this enough to spend 20 or so weekends on the road. In any event the invitation is always open - just let me know so I can get you on the guest list.
All for now. Ciao, J.R.
cudaken Computer Sound System. Messed with it some and still DOA. Going to be a pain in the caboose taking it all apart.
Can you see the cabling behind all that stuff, Ken? Maybe the mice made a meal out of the soft insulation of the connecting cables?
Try setting CV 8 to 8... Oh wait, no, that won't work
Yes! Thank you, Kevin. Your photos were a pleasure to see
Good Luck, Ed
