Evenin' Folks!

Janie, I could use a refill for the decaf please....

Eyes feel pretty good today only one day after the surgery....  Got the call they make the day after outpatient surgery  to see how I was doing.  Other than some swelling (expected), I seem to be doing better than expected.  No pain at all, very little brusing so far.  I have been using the ice pack as recomended though.

Been little by little getting things put away from the train show last Sunday.  One of the companies we are getting a bid from for the Hearing Loop at church sent out an email last friday that the financial guy at church didn't respond to...  He emailed again today (he copies me as I take care of the sound system there) They have a installer that we know well in Geneva this Thursday and he wants to visit the church to look at the job to see what needs to be done.  I called the guy at church who hadn't opened either email yet........  Hopefully he will get this set up tomorrow.  I should feel fine to go over and help at that time.  I got insider info from a member of properties Committee last week.  He said they have put this on the do ASAP list. Since the pastor wants it done soon and they now have the $$$ for it (as soon as I write the check).  Getting it installed will make it much better for some old deaf guys like me to actually hear what Pastor Deb says....  I would like that!  Smile, Wink & Grin

Good to see the Juke Box has been re-installed....

Hope you all have a great night!

Good evening all.

Chloe - A slice of that yummy looking cheesecake, with a glass of milk please. Thanks.

SteveO - Thanks! You do a very fine job moderating, and are not thanked enough. So, thanks! Have a slice of that cheesecake, on my tab.

My P.S - I think I know how you feel, to an extent. I am pretty sure that some nice* customers were deliberately moving items 3-4 feet, and across the aisle, deliberately at w*^k.... My response to my manager, was, "I guess I expect too much when I expect people to not throw items down 3 feet from where they picked it up from."

Nice* Like how Bon Jovi says to "Have a Nice* Day."

My wooden nickle for the repaired juke box, hopefully it won't jam it...

Steven NWP - Did you ever get the pressure washer going?

Ray - Glad the surgery went well.

Ken - Lets just say I have been borrowing some of your rail spikes....

Car - Repaired now, the fuel pump control module went on Sunday...

W*^k - Late on Sunday, due to the aforementioned car issue... Boss was understanding about it though.

Weather - Cold wet and windy. Very windy. Did I say windy? Because if I didn't, it's windy out there.

In other words, the weather report is like this - Windy, with periods of rain, cold tempuratures, and wind.

Trains - Not much to report here, other than I got a track cleaning train running. And, somehow, I managed to get a nail (actually pin) holding the track in place loosened enought to stop said track cleaning train in its tracks... Literally.

Still not sure how I managed to do THAT trick....

Hope all are having a good night!

Rick, no I didn't get it running, turns out that one of the guys that used it before me at Hotel A his kids (who were with him because he's getting a divorce and had no one to watch his kids) must've run the machine dry thereby burning up the pump, so now we're going to have to rent a machine to do the work at hotel B

The pool at hotel A is still losing sand from the filter and depositing it on the floor of the pool, I am going to wait till after the inspection to figure it out. Gotta get one of the skimmer boxes unclogged too.

I would love to be able to take a couple days off from work and NOT come back to a huge Forum blow-up.

.

SteveO... Unfortunately I feel your pain. Came into work yesterday after a couple days off and had a huge blow-up to deal with. Two sixteen hour days later and I have had it. I am worn out.

.

Finally have the kitchen stuff unpacked and put away. We have five empty cabinets! We have so much more space than we had before. This is amazing.

.

I am heading back home tomorrow morning after some sleep to get ready for a coiuple big weeks coming up. Maybe I will get a boxcar finished and relax.

"I guess I expect too much when I expect people to not throw items down 3 feet from where they picked it up from."

I guess he has never worked in a movie theater, you know throw it on the floor.

I had to clean the theater with a leaf blower when we had The Rugrats movie. I blew it all the way to the front and out the exit door. Otherwise we would have never had time to clean it beofre the next show.

I miss the movie theater days but not the regional manager I had.

He made the job use some of Ken's rail spikes.

Mornin' folks!

Zoe, I'll have a short stack of buttermilk pancakes and pure New York State Maple Syrup, and a pot of Seneca Lake Blend Dark Roast Coffee to keep my FGLK Mug filled for a while.  Thank you , Ma'am!

Place is nearly empty this morning I see.  It is currently 43°F under cloudy skies here in the Finger Lakes Region of NYS.  In other words a typical early spring day around here.  I noticed the Starlings are back this morning. Looks like March will be a good month for solar production at my house.  Not the best I have had in March, but certainly not the worst.

I totally forgot to make my bi-yearly pilgrimage to Sweet Expressions in Canandaigua for the annual candy purchase for Easter.  Guess I will brave the "Oh My, what happened to you?" looks and drive to Canandaigua on Friday.  Hope I don't have to wait in line there for an hour or so.  The owner of that excellent shop  with fresh made chocolate confections grew up one farm to the East of me as a kid.

I may even buy a nice caloree laden treat for myself.  Weighed in at 227lbs. this morning!  YES!!!!  That means I have now lost 98lbs.!!!!  That is more than my late wife weighed when we got married....  Actually starting to like the way I look again.  Eyes are still quite swollen and I now see some bruising which is expected, but no pain whatsoever.

Ken, this quote is for you...

"My wife Mary and I have been married for forty-seven years and not once have we had an argument serious enough to consider divorce; murder, yes, but divorce, never." - Jack Benny

I have to get cleaning house today...  I have company coming over after the Boy Scout District Committee meeting tonight.  I will be skipping it myself tonight for some obvious reasons. Whistling

Hope you all have a great day out there!

Once, just once, I would love to be able to take a couple days off from work and NOT come back to a huge Forum blow-up. Seriously.

Thank you for all you do. Not only for being the voice of reason (and carrying a big hammer), but also for the pointer to the Lorde video. I now have the album queued up in my playlist for the day. (Right now I am listening to the new Jack White album.)

Well, it looks like we are in for a fairly significant plumbing job. Recently I noticed that one of the cats had taken to lying on the floor right in front of my bathroom sink. After about a week, I happened to step on the floor in bare feet (I am almost always in slippers) and it was hot to the touch. It turns out we have a "slab leak." The way houses are plumbed in the desert southwest is that they set the forms for the concrete slab, the plumber somes in and lays all of the pipe with sections of pipe sticking up where they will be needed, and then it is all covered with the concrete. Well, the one of the hot water pipe has developed a small leak. The fix is to cap off the errant line and replumb it through the attic. (Less invasive than taking a jackhammer to the slab.) Woopie.

Good Afternoon,

A windy, cool day here as in a high of -6C but at least it is sunny.

Ray, great news on your 'lids' surgery.

On the RR front, I did take apart both of those Kato PA's. I removed the DCC boards, cleaned the contacts and decided to solder the motor contacts to the boards. They both are performing much better. I also found that one of them was binding on the rear truck so I took that apart too. Wow, the idler gear in N sure is a tiny thing but at least it didn't go flying away. I found a tiny piece of ballast stuck in one of the axle gears. I am now emboldened so the RDC is now apart too. I need to test the drive so after removing the board I now need to test the motor and drive as soon as I dig out my DC power pack.

Today I took the car to the carwash as I had forgotten what colour it is. Turns out it is silver. I went to a local wash that does the interior too as it really need a clean especially the front mats. They were heavy with salt and sand crud. It was well worth the $23 charge.

Well tomorrow I am off to  the travel agent to put together an insurance claim for our cancelled trip. At most we will get back 50% of the tour cost. Still that is a hefty charge. My wife is devastated about the situation but I hope the docs can help her. This sure has been tough on me too as I had been looking forward to what would likely be our last trip to Africa. I hope we will be able to go again but it depends on what we can do with the money recovered.  I suppose many wouldn't feel too sorry for us but still it has been hard on us.

Oh, I forgot to mention that we did watch the movie Dunkirk on Sunday. It was very well done but you need a high def TV and a decent sound system to get the most out of it . We have both with a Sony 4K tv and an old AR amp with Paradigm floor speakers. The amp doesn't have a lot of wattage but it is a high current amp as in 25 amps so it can easily drive the 4 ohm speakers.  Those Spitfires sure sound great.

Well soon time for dinner here.

Those Spitfires sure sound great.

There is no mistaking the sound of a Rolls Royce Merlin engine! Dianne and I were in downtown Toronto a couple of years ago when I heard the sound of Merlins!! The Lancaster that is stationed at Hamilton's Mount Hope airport was doing circuits over the city. I was in the middle of crossing a street but I stopped right there to look up. Magnificent sight! Dianne had to drag me out of the way of the traffic. Hardly anyone else noticed what was flying overhead.

Afternoon diners,

Worked on the pool at hotel A some more, both skimmers are now operational, the pool store guy suggested treating for mustard algae to see if that's the "sand" on the bottom.

Dave, you sure are right about the sound of RR Merlins! I too have heard/seen the Lanc when it visited our city a few years ago. When I was young the Air Force used to use one here for training and it often cruised over our house. Can you say 'loud'.  I also love the sound of radial aircraft engines. The water bombers used here were based in Gimli where we had our boat moored. They were radial powered and the sound of a full throttle lift off after a water pickup was truly amazing.

The mention of Dunkirk reminded me that I will have to make sure to record it on my DVR when it comes to the movie channels. Not that I have a great sound system, but I do want to see it.

Hobby Front: Got the new NP boxcar on Tuesday. I already have it weighted properly. (It was only about .3 oz low. Took a weight out of my spares to fix it. Advantage of having a digital scale.) Carved part of the ladders off to show an updated prototype. It has the first batch of weathering on it. The next batch will require some BN green paint and some decals. (Too late tonight to do it.) I will also need to separate the mounting pins from the roofwalk. (I glued the pins in the holes to fill them and then I will carve them to fit the roof to represent the removed roofwalk.)

As suspected the 50' car will need another coat of yellow on the sides. Still need to get some thinner from the layout in order to do that and paint a corner of the doors black. (Where I held them when they were painted.) I will need to raid the parts bin and see if I can find a brakewheel.

I will also need to order some Earth paint to weather the SW1200. (Still just a little cold for me to want to do that.)

Lots of projects but not much time to do them. (Everyone's lament.)

I was just watching TV and saw a "news" clip of NKs leader Kim going on about wingless planes, special trains, and tired Chinese workers, but then he said that he and Chinas leader mostly discussed the renewal of Roseanne, it was then I realized that it was fake and was part of a late night talk show I then changed the channel... LaughLaughLaugh

Good morning from the West Coast, it is 10c with a high overcast.

It sounds like a lot of our wives are suffering these days from more than having to deal with their train nut husbands. Mine had to quit her career as a Veterinary surgeon because of Thoracic outlet syndrome.  She has had a rough last couple of weeks of trying to do anything with her arms.

My kid flies to Calgary from Ottawa early tomorrow morning and has a game as soon as he gets there. He will find a few pieces of new equipment in his hockey bag along with a large bag of Purdy's chocolate Easter eggs tucked into his helmet. He can share those with the guys in the locker room. I have to take the bag over to his coach later today as he is taking it to Calgary and bringing it home. I am going to give him a $100.00 to buy the first round after the game. It is a good group that attends these tournaments, they come from all over North America. If I felt better I would go along.

Had a kid that we would take in from time to time come by and give me a big bottle of Appleton Rum, "just because" he said. His father yells at everyone in the family constantly and has broken this poor kid. He has lost all confidence in himself, we are trying to get him back on track. He is a straight "A" student and hopefully, he won't end up on the street. So far so good. He knows he can stay with us anytime he needs to get away from home. He said that in the 20 years he has known us he has never seen my wife or me angry and asked why. I told him to pin this on the refrigerator and maybe his Dad will see it.

May go look at this house that has a big train room in the basement, the property is beautiful.

I really want to move away from the condo wave rolling at us.

RAY! What is with the purple eyes? Did you tick off your new lass already? Hope all is going well on that front.

Well, I think I better go take down more dog runs before the rains come. Hope all spouses, children and all those close us that are ailing are on the mend.

I've got the beer for the guys in Calgary, so I'll get them here as well. Start Ken off with two, after all it is the start of a long weekend. I have a bottle of Rum that needs to be drunk.BeerWhistlingPirate

All the best to all.

That calls for some music.

Wow, Billy Joel is young in that video. He's about an octave higher than the album version of the song.

Evenin' Folks!

Been a typical early Spring Day here in the Finger Lakes Region of NYS...  Yep!  Gloomy and wet!  However, the first of the robins are back!  Saw 4 of them in my side yard this morning.  One already tried to fly through one of the picture windows in the dining room......  Didn't appear to be hurt and flew right off.

OK, now you went and did it!  This is what I look like 3 days after the eyelid surgery!

Does that look like anything a beautiful woman would want to go out with???  I did find out from a friend that the lady in question is about 1 year younger than I am.  She looks about 10 years younger actually.

Made the appointment for the eyebrow proceedure today.  The whole thing won't be done until the middle of June.  I don't think the bruising is very bad from the eyebrow proceedure....

I also found out that the lady I should be going out with will be gone the week after Easter visiting her family out in the midwest.  So I doubt I will get a chance to set anything up until after she returns.  By the time we get to go out for an evening, I should be pretty much healed up....

An installer for a sound company that may get the bid for installing the Hearing loop at church arrived today.  I spent about an hour down there just hanging out and answering some questions about what the end result should be and how best to install it at our church.
