Good evening, it was a warm sunny 16c day today.
The kid is 3-0 in his tournament in Alberta. He has two goals and a bunch of assists. Last year you could watch it online. Not so this year, Oh well. The wife cleaned up at the dog show today, came home and cooked us an incredible steak dinner. A good day all around.
I don't care where the diner goes but it is a big world out there and staying in one country gets a little monotonous for us world traveler types. Maybe next month we can do British Columbia. How many states or indeed countries can you fit into the Province of B.C. There is lots to see and at least it is a baby step away from the usual.
So in a shameless moment of self-promotion, I offer this ad from 2010 when the Olympics were on as a way to encourage some to widen their horizons.

All the best to all.

Okay with me.... Feel free to include FL with the others. ... if you want to also include TX as a gulf state, that is okay with me , because Houston is where I was born .

If you move it to Florida, April might be our last month of tolerable weather.
In May we start getting daily thunderstorms and humidity near 100%. June is the start of Hurricane Season.

If everything seems under control, you're not going fast enough!
My 2 cents .... I prefer more than just one city or just one mountain pass etc. ..... An entire Canadian province such as British Columbia would be great.
Heartland Division CB&QCanada would be a fabulous country, but how many Canadians are volunteering to take us there for a visit ?
Ok, how about putting the diner in Squamish, British Columbia? Squamish is home to the West Coast Railway Association which, among other things, is where CP #2860 resides. CP#2860 is a Royal Hudson which has been maintained and even run back and forth across Canada recently. It is under repair right now. In fact, there is a 10 year master schedule for repairs which has just begun with the rebuilding of the boiler.

Squamish is also half way up the Sea to Sky Highway which runs from Vancouver to Whistler, BC. It is incredibly beautiful scenery.

How about Squamish Steven?

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
Evening Diners
Flo, I will take a Big and give the gang what they like.
40 Years Ago Today I was realesd from the US Army! I have mixed feeling about that. In some ways I wished I had been a Lifer and would have hit my 20 years at a mer 38 years old. On the other hand, my MOS was not on the fast track for promition and was told if I wanted to be a E-6 by 27 I would have to go to infantry. No Thanks! So I was out of there!
And Yes That means I went Active Duty on April 1st! Yes April Fools Day. Go figuer?
Later Ken

Got all set up to do some airbrushing and the little fitting where the paint bottle attaches fell off. Maybe it was brazed?
Badger has a lifetime warranty so it's going in the mail Monday.
Next I tried molding some lead weights, using bird shot, a propane torch and some wet sand. It sorta worked. It was slower melting than I expected. My weights came out lump but they will work.

Dave .... Yes, Steven NWP SWP does very well .... I just thought others might want to take a turn. .... Where? Canada would be a fabulous country, but how many Canadians are volunteering to take us there for a visit ? .... Even Steven does it, perhaps he would like to tour the Gulf states of LA, MS, and AL ...
Heartland Division CB&QDo we have a volunteer to move the Diner for April ?
Where shall we move it to? Any suggestions?
P.S. I'm not volunteering. Steven does a fine job.
I don't know, do you?
Good afternoon .
Do we have a volunteer to move the Diner for April ?
Good morning from the South House.
Not much going on around here since the plumbing is all back at work.
Been working on programming for arduinos to do various tasks around layouts.
I have the railroad crossing signals working with a sensor to activate them. Now I am working on adding sound to the mix.
Looks like nice sunny day here.
Tomorrow we will be heading back to the North House, looks like wintery mix is in store for the drive. we may beat it home though.
Heartland Division CB&QGood morning ..... Wake up, everybody ..
I'm awake! Finally have a day off at home. Work was very stressful this week and I am glad to be home and away from it all.
I have so few stressful weeks now that when one comes around it seems super-bad. In my previous position every day was stressful, so I guess I just adapted to it better. Maybe I have just had enough.
I am going to paint all day.
Good morning .....
Wake up, everybody ..... I'll have coffee and a donut, please.
Henry ... I watched the caboose video. I see the locomotive has two units with one being a road slug made from a GP30. It was not hard to click on the link to watch on You Tube.
Good afternoon from the West Coast. It was a beautiful sunny warm "T-shirt" kind of day and stall mats weigh a lot more than they did 20 years ago. Got the dog runs down, just need to pressure wash them and put them up for sale.
Ken, the property is about 3 acres I believe. The quiet is what I like about it. We will see, the wife has dog shows for the next four days so house hunting is on the back burner. It is nice to not be under the gun and having to move.
The kid made it to Calgary for the tourney, however, his team coming from Vancouver was delayed an hour. Not sure how that will affect their game today. The kid is running on two hours sleep and a cat nap on the plane. I will be surprised if they win the first game. The University is letting him write his exams to accommodate his movie work. He had to ask the Dean and got the Okie Dokie when the Dean learned the pay would just about pay his next year's tuition.
Feelin a little bummed out as my arthritis is really affecting my guitar playing. I use to sit and play for hours at a time. A good friend of mine use to play lead guitar and we would play all day. He is now a pretty well known classical guitarist and we lost touch as he moved to England to study at Guild Hall. I hear he is back in Vancouver, so I'll have to look him up.
We ended up playing for about 300 people once on a Canada Day weekend at a campsite at Shuswap Lake around 1980. We played mostly Gordon Lightfoot and a beautiful young lady came and ask us if we could play Miguel. We played it perfectly and she came and hugged us and kissed me on the cheek afterward. It is the hardest Lightfoot song to play as far as I am concerned, not sure why. I couldn't get through it today as my hands were just too bad.
A good topographical tune and his best guitar work in my book.
Looks like Railstream disabled it, Henry. You have to go to You Tube to watch it.

Cleaned up my garden today and planted some lettuce and 3 radish seeds. Yep 3 seed is all I had but I had 7 packages of cucumber seeds. We are still not past are frost free date and snow is forecast on Sunday night.
I'm not clear on the changes, but Amtrak has put an end to some charter trains and has the Private Varnish owners worried that their million dollar restorations may have no place to go.
Another unexpected sight from Youtube, a caboose, on the move.
Afternoon Diners
Flo, give the gang and I a and Steven and Rick what they like. Yes, leave a Stein outside for Ulrich.
Pretty Pleasent Day Off. I invited my daughter to breakfest with my self and wife. I seldom get to see Sharyon but my wife does all the time. Main reason I wanted to give her a check toward what we owe her from when my wife's car intake manafolid cracked last year. I was going to pay the tab but the restarnt CC machine was down. So Sharyon paid the bill.
Train Front Cleared my SP SW900 from the RIP track. Pulls better than I remember. While I was only pushing 1 flat car and pulling 3 50' covred hoppers it ran well.
ATF On The Rails Been a year and it been working great! Reason I bring it up now is because of the SP SW900. It is a small Proto 2000 swithcher and does not weigh much. Use to stall all the time even after cleaning the wheels. Today the wheels where pretty nasty looking but yet not a single stall!
Ray You are looking way better now. Never cared for the beard, looked like ZZ Top want to be.
Henery Good to hear your wife is doing better!
Brent Good looking house. How much land comes with it?
The South house plumbing woes now all fixed.
For those who may not remember, last week we tried coming to our getaway house in Mississippi, only to find a lot of busted water pipes from the freeze over new years. I fixed all the pipes last week, only to find that the cartridge in the shower faucet had cracked and was leaking. We cut our trip short due to lack of water and I did not have the tools to fix the shower. ( I was afraid I would have to tear out the shower and replace the faucet. ) We came back down this week and I was able pull the innards of the faucet and figure out the brand, I went to the local hardware store ( a mom and pop type) and they had a replacement. three screws later its in and I am done. We now have water again here at the South House.
Mornin' folks!
Chloe, just need a refill for the Seneca Lake Dark Roast, Organic, Fair Traded.......... Uh Coffee.
Thanks, Garry, I have been told by many people that I look 10 to 15 years younger than I did with the beard. At the moment I feel about that much younger..... My sister informed me she found a photo of me back when I weighed about 95lbs. more. I will see her at Easter Brunch on Sunday. I hope she will bring it with her. I can then scan it to gross everyone out.......
The VOLT has to go in the shop for a brake sensor repair this afternoon. It has developed the "Dreaded Cruise Control" failure problem. A new part in the brake pedal mechanizm hopefully will take care of the problem. We shall see.
Other than NMRA business I haven't even seen the layout in a few days.

We'll get there sooner or later!
Mmmmm.... schmaltz.
--Steven Otte, Model Railroader senior associate editorsotte@kalmbach.com
I haven't had a Matzo ball in 40 years. My Jewish grandmother said my Catholic mother made good Matzo ball soup. I just looked at the recipe....4 tbsp of schmaltz. She probably did use real schmaltz...chicken fat for you shiksas.
Last thing I need is more schmaltz, I think I will just treasure the memory.
Garry,
The moved from the old IC building on KY ave to a brand new building down by the river near the Carson center. They tried to give the museum the old IC building, but we had to decline as the eletric bill alone was $30k a year on that building. Let alone any reno we would have to make to bring it up to code and ADA standards. The old IC building is a neat building. i noticed it has either sold or someone is renting it as there is a used car lot on the parking lot now and the for sale sign is gone. They moved their dispatchers from South yard to the new building into a state of the art dispatching center. They also dispatch for the Evansville Western and the A&O ( their companies) from here.
Good morning! If you're looking for a hot and hearty lunch, don't Passover today's Diner special!
Wake up everybody, or you will miss breakfast.
I'll have coffee and a pecan roll please.
Ray ... if I ignore the bruises , I can say your appearance has improved since some older photos I have seen .
MLC ... seems like I don’t get to Paducah very much. I would like to see the P&L HQ you mentioned .
Brent ... LOL at the Boo Boo. The plate on the locomotive might have said “Athearn”, but I was not close enough to read it.
BATMAN Heartland Division CB&Q Garry, this pic looks like a model.

Garry, this pic looks like a model.
Strange you should say that. The paint scheme and logos were actually desinged bt a model railroader back when the P&L started in the late 80's Their new headquarters building is nice . it is out our museum's back door.
