Good morning it is 5c and sunny out here on the Coast.

Garry, congratulations, you must be very proud of your Granddaughter. My kids do well academically and I know it is just through hard work they do so well.

WOW! is all I can say about my new windshield in the truck, it seems like there is nothing there at all, it is so clear. I walked into the glass place and handed them my keys and the girl says "just hang on until your claim goes through". I turned to sit down and she instantly said okay you can go your approved. A slick operation, $200.00 deductible on the windshield.

It was pretty beat up from boldly going where only the hearty, foolishly go.Laugh I told my son I finally got it fixed and he said about time and then reminded me about the well-known ghost we ran into on one of our trips into an old mining town a few years ago. It is a common occurrence according to the ghost great grandson who we met up with down the mountain. Both my son and I don't know what we experienced, only that it was weird.

Well, I think I will start dismantling some of my wife's dog kennels. It was a lot of work putting them up years ago and when 9-11 happened the dog world suffered by new regs strictly limiting shipping of dogs over the next few years.

We would get bitches in for breeding and they would need to be kept away from the other dogs so no accidents happened with the wrong dog, thus the three kennel runs we put up. The kennels were used once before the embargo's started to happen. The common practice now is to ship chilled or frozen semen to wherever the female dog is located on the planet. It is actually much easier than having visitors having to be picked up and dropped off at the airport all the time. Sometimes the owners would accompany their pride and joys and the wife would sometimes invite them to stay for the two or three days. After getting a couple of real nut jobs we started to limit the invites.

The runs are portable 10' x 10' or 10' x 12' panels that we will sell or take with us when we move if the new place isn't fenced properly. We used rubber stall mats on the floor and I built proper roofs over top, Lots of time and money never used. Sigh

Well I guess I better get moving.

All the best to all.

Good evening folks, I've had what is called a full rich day.

Two cars are now in the shop, the van which is having transmission issues which we have brought it in for before and they returned it saying there is nothing wrong, and now the warranty is up! Earlier this year the entire electrical system some how was fried but that was warranty covered, the sales man that sold us the car wants to buy it back for 2000 and sell us a one model year newer van for 18000 so we'll be 13000 in the hole on the current van and then 18000 for the new one, we are going to figure out how to get the current one fixed. Now the truck is stalling so we brought it to our mechanic. And the car just got out of the shop a week ago.

Had an appointment to get my ingrown toenail removed, I have had it for about a year and a half after I bruised the nail and it consequently fell off, it finally grew back, it occasionally got flared up but the past month it's really been hurting, about 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch was dug in the side of my toe.

I finally got the pool at the hotel cleaned and thats with a numb toe, inspection is next week so I'll be working over the weekend doing some odd jobs.

As I said a full rich day.

Gave the juke box a nudge.

 Eveing Diners

Flo, give the gang and I a Beer please and Steven and Rick what they want. Yes, leave a stein outside for Ulrich.

Been in the dumps the last few days. Sigh Just a lot of worry was about taking early SS will bring. My SS will not cover my current Credit Card and House Payment Plan, I will be short $118.00 a month. Main worry is will the Wife shoulder the ulitys biils? I am pretty sure she will not and will blow the money she will get.

Gary You and I seem to think a like about real wood! No such thing as a staright 2X4 even if it is straight when you buy it!

Gary and other dinner, what do you think of this idea for new layout frame work?

Use 3/4 inch plywood cut in 4" stips long ways. So that would be a 3/4" X 4" X 8' section as the main side support. Use the same 3/4" X 4" plywood as cross support on 14" centers supports. Use 2"X2" 4" sections as mounting points on the side frame and cross support for mounting points and legs. Glue and screw 1/2" plwood for the top of the layout. What do you Diners think about this idea?

 Later, Ken

BTW, I changed my avatar it's now this.

It's now a Lotus 43 powered by a BRM P75 183 CID H16, and was driven to victory by Jim Clark in the 1966 United States Grand Prix at Watkins Glen International...

The H16 is a very fascinating engine to me being that it's two horizontal opposed boxers 8 engines stacked and geared together...

If you haven't already noticed I'm also a car nut.

Ah, am I the last person on Earth? 21 Hours and not a post and the Dinner is still on the front page?

Hum, think I will help my self to a Beer.

So where did all the people go? Work was just as dead, only one customer in 8 hours on a Saturday?

I am blowing this Fire Trap, Crusie Some Chicks and get Trashed.

Hey guys

Hmm, I thought this was a trains forum. I don't know it was a share your music and cars forum too. Thought they had Youtube and other forums for that.

I know we all share our daily lives and interests here, but....Maybe Vinnie will visit...no one wants that.....

Just wondering...

I haven't decided what to do. I mean the stair case ride toy is too expensive for my budget, and right now my knee is so bad I can barely walk let alone navigate stairs, so I guess a new layout in the new house in the basement is out of the question. Only a 2 br, the other room is for guests and the computer room, so there is literally NO SPACE upstairs to put it, and Im not going the garage route, like to get it cleaned out and actually put my van in it.

Iam actually going to the ER tomorrow as I am working tonight, as it will take too long to get into the orthopedic surgeon, so the ER may be my best option. tonight at work I can barely walk on it, and it wants to buckle every step I take. The torn ligaments may have gotten worse and the pain injection shot I got doesnt do any good.

See why I can't do stairs to a basement layout?

Im here at work, been a crazy day. two kids birthday parties, found about 35 kids in the very small pool. The manager came in and made them sign an insurance waiver to stay, but really doens't want the outsiders just walking in using the pool for a play thing even if they attend the guests party, as the pool is for GUESTS only.

well, i got 2 1/2 hours to go...cant wait to put my leg up in bed..tomorrow first thing when the ER is less busy, I'll go in. I don't think I have a choice before it buckles and I fall HARD.

Have my heart stress test the chemical one on fri.....oh joy of joys, I'd much rather have a bowel scan....

Health and well being to all and thoughts and prayers....

Howdy diners,

Ken, we're all still here, if everyone else is having weather remotely similar to here in Louisiana they're all outside!Laugh

Galaxy, the diner is open to discussion of anything as long as it's not in violation of the forum rules, I am not advertising, preaching, or endorsing a political candidate so I'm in the clear as far as I can tell, after all this is a "diner" so we need a "jukebox", please I encourage everyone to drop a "quarter" (or two, or more) into the "jukebox" and play one or two of your favorites. As for the car thing I gotta drive here somehow, might as well go in style!Laugh

It's all good though.

Went to a lawn mower dealership today, saw a Scag that the salesman said is a "hybrid" between residential and commercial, and it's in my price range!

And, THE DINER IS OPEN!

Stephen NWPSWP,

May I tenderly remind you this and all the fora herein are owned solely by Kalmbach, and this forum{the diner thread} IS a place you can relax and share your day, though not exactly train related, but loosely connected, in that we all share a passion for a hobby.

This thread {the diner} GOT SO OUT OF HAND BEFORE YOU CAME ALONG, THAT MR. OTTE was strictly and Permenantly installed to moderate it daily to be sure it stayed in a good realm of a pleasureable place for all to come.

IT IS NOT YOUR forum, to start changing a format that has worked so well for years here by insisting we all do somehting different at the top of the page {you got SHOT DOWN on that one by several others, I DO remember, }to rush in to open new diners well before the close of the last day of the month, it IS NOT YOUR FORUM to DICTATE to others, as you have just done to me. IT is NOT YOUR forum to post about all your OTHER hobbies...there are forums strictly for those other outlets, AND, AS I recall, AS MR. OTTE WAS ONCE SO KIND ENOUGH ONE DAY TO ALLOW YOU TO POST AN EXTERNAL LINK ONCE, JUST ONCE.

You are more than welcome to go to the other foras across the net to post about your lawn mower racing hobby, your taste of music {which I AM SURE I am NOT Alone in disliking} {hence the refernce I made to YOUTUBE Where YOU CAN share your music all you'd like}, your desires to have race cars, etc.

This IS STILL a model railroading informal diner thread, loosely based on model railroading where we can come and share our day, NOT EXACLY ALL OUR OTHER HOBBIES. Thats WHY those other fora were formed!

IT IS NOT UP TO YOU to DICTATE HOW THIS FORUM IS RUN. THAT is MR. OTTE'S job.

AND since YOU GOT here, I certainly, and I am SURE I am not alone in the feeling, that YOU have tried to turn it into STEVENS PERSONAL FORUM. Wrong Answer.

Not to discourage you, by all means share about your expected layout, your trains, come here and talk about your college choice, how your education proceeds, and later how your day on the job went {when you have one}, how your life in general is going. THAT type of thing.

We've gotten along very well FINE without a jukebox and an onslaught of music specific to a certain persons tastes, at least Since I have been here in 2006.

I once mentioned us OLD fogies are die hards in our ways, you will learn that AS YOU AGE yourself.

THIS IS the format under which this diner has ALWAYS been run, since I joined here in 2006.
WE have THE RIVET counter {for those who count rivets to be sure its exact to prototypical 1:1 RRs} to sit and eat at, or booths,, we have our dame wait staff to serve us. WE have our top o' the page buying a virtual round of whatever, and at the stroke of midnite east coast time USA, its time for the new forum of the month to start, with the new opener to pick a local, albeit with input for the desires of the general populace here. We have always had COUSIN VINNIE to control things {AKA Mr. Otte}, hes our bouncer.

At one time due to my work schedual ending at midnight, and ULRICH in Germany {where IS he?} being 6 hours ahead of east coast USA time, we were the only ones opening, and to be honest I got a little tired and decided someone else should take the reins on that and stepped out and away for a long while just to make it so.

We all know the other basics:

Religion is not allowed, but thoughts and prayers are, as we DO have the few ANGEL emoticons {Angel  Angel, for that but other than that religion is prohibited.

Politics is another subject restricted and all those topics that go hand in hand with it.

...et al....as recorded under forum rules.

Change may be a good thing, BUT I feel it is YOUR wishes that are directing this as though IT IS YOUR FORUM, it is not, any more than mine.

STICK with the ORIGINAL PLAN and program, and you'll do fine, but don't come in here as a kid telling US HOW IT WILL BE RUN. Thats not going to work well, as others have gently told you in the past about trying to change our format.

If I want music, I'll go to Youtube, I AM POSITIVE YOU would NOT like what I listen too, especially because its in foreign or ancient languages. {as a former Music teacher, Ray might appreciate it}. I don't need to come here to find YOUR music. If you wnat to mention "I like XYZ band singing XXXX", fine, but we don't really need a video of it. Sure I can pass it by and not read or play it, but its on several pages, adn gets distracting.

SO enjoy, but DON't try to DICTATE to us how it WILL be run, as I said that Is MR. OTTE's Job.

Thank you Steven, for taking the time to read, adn hopfully digest this, BEFORE you get the DINER thread abolished on all of us. I am NOT attacking you, just providing gentle guidance.

Cousin VInnie ISN"T pretty when he comes around.!!

have a great night.

thoughts and prayers for all.

A classic USRA design, Galaxy! Thank you for noticing.

Actually, at the time that photo was taken, I was pretty close to Steven's age. I was fortunate that many of the "old-timers" that were on the crew were very patient with me and taught me at an early age how to behave when in the company of adults.

I have carried many of their words of wisdom with me to this day. Not a day goes by that I don't pause to remember them (this is only a small part of the whole group).

 4070_crew by Edmund, on Flickr

That's me on the far left. Some of us, including myself, worked round-the-clock the entire week, catching naps in an old B&O caboose outside the roundhouse, to paint, reassemble and fire-up the 4070 for a dedication ceremony on the day this photo was taken.

I just came to the sad realization that everyone in that photo, including the photographer, is no longer with us, with the obvious exception of this writer!

Angel Oh My! Angel

Steven, I hope you accept yet another gentle reminder to take a little time to "go with the flow" here.

Another of the "Joys of getting Older!" Sigh

And regarding other matters, may I suggest that a nice cup of tea, some scones, a little quiet contemplation, and prehaps a relaxing lie down, might be in order.

Egg and mushroom omlet please.

Had to call 911 for my wife.  She was sitting on the stairs and asked me to get her some compazine.  I went to the next room to get it and came back and she was unconscious.  Her eyes were wide open and her lips were as pale as the rest of her skin.  She woke up about a minute later.

I drove myself to the hospital and found out patients who arrive by ambulance have to wait their turn, with the paramedics, in a hall way!  We were there about 20 minutes, a nurse checked her vital signs to make sure she wasn't going to box it in the hallway.

I must say once they got her to a room, the nurses and doc where on her quicker than the last time we were there when she had a fever and no white cells.  She did not need a transfusion, which her oncologist had hinted at and all her other lab work was good enough to send her home after giving her fluids.  It was a vagal reaction to her GI symptoms from the chemo.  We were out of there in less that 4 hours.

Music is a very personal thing.  Those of my age and older were exposed to jazz watching movies from th late 30's and 40's that used to be a staple of TV, we were born in the Rock & Roll era, remember our parents not liking Elvis much and hating the Beatles.

Depending on where you lived, and not your race, Soul music may have been more popular than the early psychodelic music and rock of the time.  I was re-exposed to jazz by a college classmate and happily missed the disco era.  Somewhere along the line I liked classical music for quite a while.  One of my kids memories are driving to the airport (too early for him) with classical music playing on the radio.

I am not interested in wading through anyone else's musical suggestions and am in agreement with Galaxy.  It's true we discuss a lot of off topic things.  If the noise gets to a level where I can't find the chat, I will leave the diner.

Good morning diners,

Looks like tempers flared some overnight. Everybody drinks are on me, consider it retribution and a peace offering for my offenses against you.

Today I've got some work to do at the hotels being that inspection is coming at both.

The men are coming later to haul off the jukebox sorry for any inconvenience.

Henry hope your wife is doing okay.

Well not much else going on, so I'm going to hop in the Lotus and roar on out of here!LaughSmile, Wink & Grin

Happy Sunday to everyone.

.

I hope my kitchen remodel updates are not too far off topic for everyone. It is model railroading related because the end phase of the house remodel is that I will get a layout room. This is the first step.

.

We are trying to decide on a backsplash tile now. We narrowed it down to these six choices, but when I tested them on the wall, and we don't think any of them is perfect. I guess we are going shopping again.

I kind of like the bottom one, but it's not my kitchen, and I have been accussed, lightly, and jokingly, with smiles, that some of my decorating ideas look like a Dr.'s office.

Maybe it's because during my working life, I worked on so many hospitals and clinics, I dunno, Confused Laugh

Or maybe because has one gets older, you end up spending a lot of time in one or the other!  Laugh

I kind of like the bottom one,

.

I like that one too, but one of my reasons is that it will require less work since the tiles are bigger.

.

In the end, my wife needs to be happy, and she likes tiles closer to 3 inches by 5 inches in size.

G'd Morning Diners, I guess it is noon for some of you. I'll have a double denver sandwich with home fries and onion rings and a Dr. P. to chase.(if only)

Kevin, I like what you have done there, but I am with Mike too and like the last one although I might be tempted to put the bottom line of them in the brown and then go lighter above it to the upper cupboards..

Henry, Prayers and blessings for you Wife, hope she does well.

MBK. had some good prices this week end so I picked up some Oxford models of vehicles that my Father had and I had back in the 70s.and a few other items to benefit the postal chgs. Also got my home road decals ordered. It was a pleasure dealing with Circus City Decals, great communication and speedy replies with great art work. When I find time right now I am working on building the top (3rd) level on the penninsula. This will hold the second community where most of the buildings will be. I have quite a few of them built and a closet full of kits to get at to finish that project, so that will keep me occupied for quite a spell. Hope I live that long. But I do know that I will live longer with the LM&E than if I didn't have it. It's good for body and mind.

I wonder where Ray has been the last part of this week. With his new interest in this young lady, it seems he doesn't have time for the Diner anymore. But what do I know, I don't get in as much as I used to either.

Some folks are posting five, six, seven times a day which gets a little tiring too. GALAXY, Good wishes for your medical issues too , sure glad you are back with us now.. How about figuring out some type of layout for in your garden room. Ether among the plants or just clear out a corner for the layout..If it is important to you, you will find a way.

GARY, Hope the truck got fixed to your liking and hope you have another great visit with your family. I as well like to stay fairly close to our boys. We have always bee best friends rather than Dad and Boys.

Speaking of the LM&E decals before, I was always sure that I didn't want to paint the locos so I held off in that area until I decided. Well I did a couple of years ago, but never got around to the decals. I am using the mainly yellow with green roof and running boards of the mid-scheme of the Reading RR. I have several of then right now and my eye on a couple of others. Most of you know, but for those who don't, the LM&E is a wholly owned subsiduary of the Western Pacific RR. ( in my world ) so it does another branchline work just as the SN and TS does. But the Last Mountain & Eastern name has been with me since before I was a teen ager that is 70 years ago so it truly has outlived alot of shortlines and even class1s. A strange fact is after all these years I now have a 1:1 trackage behind my home that is operated by the Last Mountain RR (Google it ) They are a grain and Potash hauler. The LM was on their locos at one time, but now they have Mobile Grain on them.

Well, I an supposed to be retired but, I got called in at the end of the month here for about 8 shifts. (hobby money). So I had better make it look like I am earning my keep. I am never far away, usually in the corner booth with who ever is having a snooze there. Best wishes to all................. and Good night Mr. YGW. where ever you are, and our good buddy Ulrich too.

Good Afternoon,

We were supposed to get a storm here today but it appears to have passed by which is fine by me. I don't want to see more of that white stuff this year.

Yesterday I actually ran a train for a half hour or so while sipping a cup of tea. Very theraputic. It was the light mountain with the express reefers. I was inspired by Ken to get out a couple of engines that have been on the rip track for quite a while. They are Kato N scale PA's. I have a pair in that beautiful D&H colour scheme. I put decoders in both and they both run in a jerky fashion. I will try cleaning the wheels first but I think they problem is between the contact strips and the decoders. The Kato RDC doesn't run well either. I am reluctant to take it apart as it was the hardest decoder install I have ever done. It isn't the tracks as all the other locos run just fine, Bachman and Atlas.

Henry, glad to hear your wife is ok. I have had vagal nerve reactions a couple of times. The first one was right after I had the prostate biopsy right in the urologists office. My wife thought I was a goner as I had virtually no pulse and passed out. Luckily the hospital was only a 2 minute ambulance ride away. After a few hours in ER  I was able to drive home. It happened again a year later the day before I had the catheter out after the surgery.

Galaxy, nice to see you in the diner. Could you do a shelf layout? They don't take up much space.

Well we are going to watch the Dunkirk movie in a little while. I expect I will like it a lot better than my wife.

Afternoon diners,

The jukebox has been sent back to the company so no more music!Laugh

Went to work at the hotel, I was going to pressure wash at hotel B but it was being used at hotel A so I worked on hotel As pool, I think the filter is going to need some work and the sand replaced because there was quite a bit of sand on the bottom, I just vacuumed Friday so I'll look into that tomorrow afternoon, if it does need new sand I'm thinking of going with Ruby Sand which is supposed to filter 3x better that regular sand.

I was looking at the courses available at UT Austin and I called the visitors information desk they said that for the degree I'm looking to peruse (Criminal Psychology) I would take a Liberal Arts course in Psychology and then I would have to transfer to another university to get the final degree, I am also considering an engineering course as well, I'll know more as the time gets closer.

I'm outta here for now, be back later...

Steve

Afternoon all.

My South trip got cut short due to plumbing issues. I got all the busted pipe fixed,  but found that the shower faucet had froze and busted the insides. So with no real tools we decided just to come home Friday nite.

So yesterday I did much of nothing. Today I have been playing with and Arduino and progrmaming it to do Various Model Train stuff.

I dug out some cantavalier crossing signals I scratch built When I was in highschool and put new LEDs in them and hooked them up to an Arduino i have programmed to flash. My soldering skills have vastly improved in 30 years. I have to repair the other one and then I will have a set.

I am going to work on the programming to detect a train with the Arduino. Neat stuff these little microprocessors.

Here is the micro processor I am using to flash the lights.

Good afternoon, it is sunny and 12c out on the West Coast.

Well got the roof off the dog run, took a lot longer than I thought it would. I may have to do a trip to the transfer station with all the junk we are piling up as we get ready to put the house up for sale next year. I will be planting grass once I get all the stall mats up. Those are quick sellers so we should get some of our money back.

Someone told us about a house that was listed for sale yesterday. We drove out and had a look at the outside. It is beautiful rolling countryside with a large creek running through it about a half hour East of where we are now and very much rural. It has a 32' x 22' train room. The only problem is my Daughter would have a long commute to school for her final year. I don't think it is a starter for that reason alone.

Ed, What year was that photo taken? They are very cool.

Ran a 48 car freight for a long time this morning. Put a trainmaster in as a mid-train helper. Ran like clockwork for over an hour while I sat and drank some pretty good coffee.

Wife was doing kids income tax for him. Mr movie star did pretty well last year, had quite a few $1000.00 days. They were long days mind you. One of the directors he keeps in touch with sent him some footage that didn't make the edit in a TV show he worked on. It is some pretty funny stuff involving him being a drunk in an old West saloon passed out on top of the piano with the piano guy playing away and a prostitute smothering him with kisses. He said that when they were shooting it the whole cast and crew were laughing so hard they had to do retakes because of it.

No music eh! Well, Ray, you and I will have to exchange our picks of the week via PMs I guess.

Well back to work.

All the best to all.

Brent

SeeYou190

I hope my kitchen remodel updates are not too far off topic for everyone. It is model railroading related because the end phase of the house remodel is that I will get a layout room. This is the first step.

.

We are trying to decide on a backsplash tile now.

This is just my humble opinion but I have heard and seen a lot of people use one type of tile for the field and use another to a stripe. In that vein, use the first option as your field and use the larger one that you like as a stripe.

Hobby Front: I have told by Mom that tomorrow won't be a "play day." (Her words.) Sigh I have to help her clean the porch. (I don't know the last time it was cleaned!) The only reason I agreed to it is, that at some point, she will tell me I have to do it anyway. I'm hoping that if we get quite a bit done, Mom might let me have a "play day" on Tuesday. (I need to have some sort of relaxation day. If something doesn't happen in that line, there will be a problem involving me turning into a certain green Sesame Street character. People don't want me turning into that character.)

On a more positive note, I had a coworker who was going to Billings on Saturday. She offered and I took the opportunity and ordered a few things and she was nice enough to even deliver them. I also got some decal sheets that I ordered direct. (Another sheet of BN engine decals, a GN hopper sheet, and a NP caboose sheet.)

Looks like tempers flared some overnight.

Steven I am on your side with this flare up.

Galaxy what is your complaint? Dinner is for talking off topic is it not? You have talked about getting rear ended, going to Wally Word (by the way thanks for the GL Moniter Tip) and other things that where off MRR subject. Far as music and Steven posting videos of what he likes? Heck Ray, Brent and a few others incuding me should have been chasied. Boy I hope I spelled that word right! Smile, Wink & Grin

 Later, Ken

Not too worry--I have a friend that says anyone who spells a word the same way, every time, lacks imagination. You, sir, have a great imagination.

It's now a Lotus 43 powered by a BRM P75 183 CID H16, and was driven to victory by Jim Clark in the 1966 United States Grand Prix at Watkins Glen International...

Steven:

I hope my memory serves me correctly. I used to have a poster on my wall in university with what I believe was that car being driven by Jim Clark at the Glen on the long straight away. The car was about three feet in the air coming off the bump! It was the sort of image that gave you goosebumps!

That was 40 years ago so I could be wrong.

Dave

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
