morning all.

I had a nice birthday yesterday after I got off of work, pizza from my favorite pizzeria and ice cream cake for dinner. My gift was one of the Atheran UTLX 30K tank cars, and I love it. One tank down, a dozen more to go to make a crude train lol. Ah well, I still have another gift from my dad coming, so we'll see what that is, because I'm trying to do a Wheeling and Lake Erie High hood GP35 from the Kato release and a cannon and company kit.I've got a Doctors appointment to get my asthma meds renewed today, and I'm actually off today. I'm hoping to hear that a WLE train is coming through today so I can go chase it and see if I can get my 2006 car up to 60,000 miles on the odometer.

(My Model Railroad, My Rules)

These are the opinions of an under 35 , from the east end of, and modeling, the same section of the Wheeling and Lake Erie railway.  As well as a freelanced road (Austinville and Dynamite City railroad).

Stopped by the LHS yesterday for some supplies.  While I was there I put an order in for 2 Athearn CGW SD40's, so when they get her I will have 3 all different numbers. Now its a waiting game. They are saying August but who knows?

True. My son in law is a contractor and has taken doaily photos of his work. It is quite interesting to see his work.

And yesterday their 2 year old daughter shoved a carrot up her nose. It took 3 adults to hold her while the Doctor extracted it. As my daughter said "it was not a good day."

Thanks for the Wildebeest.

So what you are telling me is that I am supposed to wait until the chicken lays the egg before I try to cook it?

LION don't knows about this cooking thing. Him eats meats raw.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a couple sour cream glazed donuts and a pot of Seneca lake blend Dark Roast coffee to tide me over to lunch time....  Thanks.

So what you are telling me is that I am supposed to wait until the chicken lays the egg before I try to cook it?

Are you cooking the chicken or the eggs?  The one that came first?

Another dark gloomy gray day here in the Finger Lakes Region of NYS today.  Currently 53°F almost at the high of 55°F predicted.  Got a little over an inch of rain yesterday.  Of course my car is sitting on the lawn near the back porch where I can plug in using the spare EVSE...  Hope it isn't too soft in the lawn where I will need to drive out.  Tomorrow around noon I can take the marking tape down and park in the driveway again.  He said not to park anything on the new area for a week or so.  The old driveway I can use starting tomorrow.

I've been sitting here at the computer doing an update on which members of the Division (NMRA) have signed the petition.  We are about half done.  So far no one who has been asked has not signed the petition.  I will be contacting the Asst. Super to see if he can help with the Rochester area.  There are a few not too far from me here that I will be emailing today to see if I can stop over and have them sign.

Hey all

Garry I echo your thoughts on the vets. I replied in another stream I think by JaBear

V8 - I am surprised when you stated how bad your engine was overheated etc...I thought that engine is toast !

Ray - NMRA Petition ? I havent seen an NMRA petition going around ? Is that just for your local ?

Lion - Of course you know you can eat eggs Raw too !

Rich/Mike - Houses do take much less to build ! Here some company build them in 90 days!!

Jimmy - That is nice gift

Ken - Try drinking cranberry juice. That is what my doct. suggested.

Charlie - Have his email and sent him an email hopefully he responds. I think Ulrich may have his number ?

Ray - That is odd that it would not leak if there is a pad there. There is probably another problem under that asphalt...

Ulrich - what does Liza look like ?

Good Evening!

I took a cab ride on the Glacier Express in Switzerland, all the way from Zermatt to St. Moritz - a journey of over 8 hours. I was so indulged in it that I completely forgot the time and where I am.

Most enjoyable - brings back a lot of memories of better times I had in the past. My first ride with this train will be 50 years ago next year and my last ride 30 years. If I had the money, I´d go there next year to celebrate those 50, 30 and 60 years (my birthday)!

A big sigh!

YGW - you´d like to know what Liza looks like? You´ll find here on the homepage. In case you miss her - here she is :

Wouldn´t mind having her for a DIL! I guess I need to have something fixed up in that respect.

Well, bed time is ahead - CU tomorrow!

Eggs are food? Who Knew? Food tries to run away, you chase it and catch it, and eat it. Eggs just sit there. You whould hardly know that it was food.

Yes, this is a local Division Petition.  Has to do with the US Divisions in the Niagara Frontier Region.  Not a National petition at all....

Ray - That is odd that it would not leak if there is a pad there. There is probably another problem under that asphalt...

Could be that the pad has nothing to do with the water leaking in at that corner in the basement.  My thought is that since the old pad had pulled away from the foundation (Obviously not a good seal) and that when it rains or snow melts in that location there is water seeping in right below that area, getting it sealed tight couldn't "hoight".

My CPAP main part is back from being repaired.  I will see tonight if it works correctly now.  Also made a short trip to the grocery store for a few things I forgot to put on the list for yesterday...

Last night I didn't have time to sit on the couch and have a cuddling session with Manét so I picked him up and put him on the bed.  He was a very happy kitty to be there!  He came over and did his old snuggle right next to me and put his little head on my arm and one paw on my hand.  I fell asleep and was woken up by Blackie about 3:30AM.  I got out of bed and picked up Manét and put him on the carpet in the hallway then.  I do hope he will regain the ability to jump up onto the bed and get back off by himself.  I feel really bad that he has lost much of the use of his back legs due to diabettes. SadSigh

Ulrich, oh to be about 40 years younger.....

Best get supper started.  Small piece of steak for the grill, scalloped potatoes, and a nice garden salad tonight.

Later!

Evening guys

not much going on here, was off from work today so was able to play a few games of strat o matic. I have had a bad tooth that now has to be pulled. When I was younger I got hit in the mouth with a puck andmalthou no real damage occurred then other then a good cut and bruising my teeth were okay. As the years went on the tooth was always tender and has started breaking and chipping and is beyond repair now so time for it to come out. That will happen next Monday morning. Well just heard ups pull up and drop off the 1948 baseball strat season.

talk to you guys later

Ulrich, you are reminding me of my periodontist who's doing a dental implant on me, and oddly, the same tooth on my wife Penny.

Dr. Cynthia is young, pleasant and very attractive, everything that I'm not.

But, last night I went to a Grateful Dead concert with my daughter.  It was in many ways a step back in time.  I don't think I've ever seen them live before, and it was quite an experience.

Good evening to all.  Want to wish all veterans a big thank you for your service.

CN Charlie, with 80 pots your garden must rival Assiniboine Parks gardens.  I always thought my father kept lots of pots but never that many.

Spent the afternoon dismantling an old swing set the neighbor helped excavate the footings as he was also dismantling the fence between our two lots as it is an old rusty chain link fence.  Did not plan on this job but it needed to be done.

Have a good day.  Time for my weekly hockey fix as the Penguins are on TV tonight.

Good Evening,

A cool, cloudy day here. I just went out to check the bird baths and there was a skim of ice on them so I plugged in the heated one. That time of year again.

Thanks to all the veterans, especially my own Dad, who was a bomb aimer in a Halifax.

Jim, yes 80 pots is a little excessive but our yard has a lot of shade so the only way to have flowers is to put them in pots, some of which are moved to follow the sun.  They do look nice but require daily watering so we can't go far in the summer. The gardens in Assiniboine Park are nice, aren't they and I bet not many people from your neck of woods have seen them. We don't get many tourists up here from your way but a few. I did see a Louisiana plate last year which was a first.

Not a lot new here, my wife's Gerd is still acting up so will try tomorrow to get an appointment to see her gastro guy. I must get back to my N scale road work.

Good Evening to those in AUS and NZ, Good Afternoon to those in good old Europe and Good Morning to you folks at the other end of the Big Pond!

Flo, coffee in my RhB mug and a slice of that cherry crumble pie, please!

Today, the postman brought two packages (it´s not even Christmas yet). One had a new (used) PWM controller in it, a surprise gift from a MRR friend down south, and the other one contained the foam cutter I ordered a few days ago. While using the foam cutter will have to wait until all the electrics are in that layout, the new controller was put to a test immediately, well, not immediately, but as soon as had fastened to miniature plugs to it.

What a difference! There is a step up improvement in the performance from the old Kato power pack, which proved to be just a piece of overpriced junk. Now this old Roco controller is not what I´d finally want to have, but it saves a few $$ for the time being.

Nothing planned for the rest of the day, maybe watching some train videos on Youtube, running a train or two on the layout and enjoying myself - hopefully!

This one´s for the LION:

OK, I have to post this.  It's me at the Grateful Dead concert Tuesday night.

The show was in Worcester, MA.  I borrowed the shirt from the guy we went with, who, despite being rich and successful enough to have gifted 6 of us with tickets, is one of those people who is following the tour around the country and going to every show.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, whose the crazy looking Down Easter Dude with the tie dyed shirt in the back?  Oh.....  OK, I know who that is now.  I'll have a mug of dehydrated water and pot of Seneca Lake Dark Roast Coffee to mix with it...  Oh, A couple of the Bavarian Creme Filled Donuts would be good as well.

Windy out there today! Leaves blowing all over the place.  If this keeps up the maple tree next door will have lost every leaf by the end of the day.  Ain't many left now.  Currently 56°F with winds of 23 mph coming out of the South this morning (gusts up to 50mph).  I will be taking down the flagging tape and moving the PiP back into the main driveway early this afternoon.  Still not supposed to use the new section right by the house until next week.  No problem with that as I will be able to plug in the PiP where it always sat.

Need to get stuff out that I will need to take to the Batavia Train Show this coming Sunday.  Likely will have to print up a bunch of things as IIRC supplies are getting low.

Catch you all later!

Foo.

My LHS is closing.  Maine Trains in Chelmsford, MA, is going out of business after 15 years of serving the hobby in the best way possible.  I've been going there since I got back in 10 years ago, and I will miss them.

The last straw was a significant rent increase, and he said he just couldn't pay that much more and still make a profit.  Gerry, the owner, is in mid 70s now, and he was contemplating retirement anyway, so really all they did was force his hand.

One thing that he said has become a problem is long delivery times on items.  He'd just gotten a box of locomotives in from UPS that he ordered 2 1/2 years ago, and he showed me a listing from Athearn with simple hopper cars that wouldn't be delivered until next June.

Mr. B., that is exactly the way it played out with my three LHS.

Higher rents, nearing retirement, etc.

Unfortunately, I´ll have to chime in! The one and only "nearby" LHS (15 miles) closed a couple of years ago, when the proprietor retired. He told me that he had been working for literally nothing the past years, as the rent ate away all the profits. Now the next LHS is over an hour´s drive away, right in the heart of Hamburg - that´s $ 20 round trip in gas, plus parking! Guess who is not going there?

Whatever I need for my layout, if I can´t get it at our local home improvement store, I´ll have to order it via the Internet.

Good Afternoon,

Dull and chilly here today as in 33F.

Mr. B, sorry to hear about your store closing. Same thing happened here a couple of years ago. We still have 3 stores but none of them carry much and the prices are just too high. Our best store went into an estate situation and the result was a closure.

Not much happening here as usual. We are off shortly to do a few errands and then we have the next session of Tai Chi starting tonight. It is surprising that even moving slowly you do get a good workout. The instructor is a physiotherapist and she is very easy on the eyes.

Think I'll have a cup of tea and just sit in a corner booth for a while.

My layout is mostly built up and almost all the track is layed.  I have more engines and rolling stock than I can use at any one time, and at least a dozen freight car kits waiting to be built.  I've got lots of scenic materials, too.  It's been a while since I bought anything at the LHS because I'm already overstocked.

There's another LHS about 20 minutes away, but they are more MSRP.  They do have a giant sale twice a year, though, so if I wait I can stock up.  That store is actually a hobby shop that deals in other things, and they're larger and more diverse in their products.

I'll miss my LHS, though.  It's been a place I could always count on for a smile.

Before hitting the hay, I´d like to share my fascination by the Rhaetian Railway in Switzerland with you. This video gives some background and nice shots of my favorite railroad:

I am finally back out, riding my bike on the road after my hernia surgery. This is the time of year we love in Arizona. The afternoon temperature was a perfect 72 degrees. The cooler weather means it is now safe to venture back into the garage to work on extending my railroad. My layout was designed for expansion in the middle--it is a closed loop and the loop-back can be disconnected and new sections added in the middle. I have my HD shopping list made to add another 8' to the layout.

Mr. B. - What bikes do you have in your stable?

Mr. B... Is that your mug shot? ... My closest LHS is 50 miles away. I don't need to buy very much anymore also. Now EBAY is a primary source for me.

Bear... I thought sticky buns happened when Lion sat on honey.

Not much MRR news from me today.
