Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have my usual pot of dark roast and a couple buttercreme filled donuts to start the day.

I'll add a quote for the day myself...

"In three words I can sum up everything I've learned about life: it goes on." - Robert Frost

My visit to the Doctor went well yesterday.  My weight was right where I expected it to be...  More than I would like, but no gain so I am glad about that.  All my bloodwork came back in the safe ranges except my fasting glucose level which was 141!  Doc said he considered that to be an anomoly as my A1C was 5.9.  It has stayed under 6.0 for over 4 years now.  He says the diabettes is well controled.  Listened to my lungs and heart, and we chatted about health related things including diet, activity level, and some wierd dreams I have been having for quite some time.  I asked about if they might be caused by the Statin I am on.  He doesn't think so as the dreams are not really Nightmares as such but are most likely brought on by anxiety.  Asked if I had been under some deadlines or dealing with issues I can't avoid...  I started to laugh, and said yep!  Scouts, NMRA, MLK Committee, and other stuff....  He smiled and nodded his head.  Funny, I have always lived on stress for my whole adult life...  May be catching up with me.

I still need to unpack the containers fron the train show Sunday and print materials, then repack for the Division Meet next Saturday...  What did I just mention about deadlines...  Yeah, I still enjoy the things I do!

I better get moving and get things done around here.  Catch you all later!

Good Morning All,

I was in the area and thought i'd stop in for a quick coffee and a blueberry bagel with cream cheese. Met Phil (Flip) and Curt last week at Daytona when we were there running the Classic 24. I've been by but not at the diner a lot, just no time to play it seems of late. I hope we get the diner through this rough patch - we've had some before and survived. Usually it is because of religion or politics and we get reprimanded. It's important to have a spot on the forum where you can just talk about what would be off topic elsewhere but we've always excluded politics, religion and personal attacks just because we need to be here for each other and not to grind axes. Just my My 2 Cents. n  Cheers, J.R.

We have had two separate waves of thunderstorms this morning; the first at 4:00 am; the second at 7:30 am.  The first wave was accompanied by a tornado warning; we are currently under a tornado watch.

We are leaving Thursday night for a 10 day trip to North Carolina and Indiana.  My daughter's conference volleyball tournament is next weekend, and then we spend Thanksgiving at Purdue prior to the last football game with Indiana.

I haven't done much train work lately; although I have been working in the garage to make room for a permanent work bench.  I simply have too much stuff, train and otherwise.

Hi J.R.!

Good to see you.  You have been missed for some time now.  I hope your cars are doing well on the race circuits!  Don't be a stranger here.

You are absolutely right about the Diner.  We'll get through just fine!

Gary:

My daughter never had a choice.  My wife has coached vb in high school/jr. high for 30 years; she dropped down to jr. high so she could watch our kids play in high school/college.  Daughter played competitive (club) volleyball from age 12 on through high school; that's what got her a scholarship; although she also has academic scholarships because she is smart, too.  This week she decided she wasn't being challenged enough academically, so she added a second major; and should still finish in 4 years.  And she loves trains, too!!!!

Good for your daughter; I hope she has continued success.

Tin Can

One of my first mini scenes on my current layout was a vollyball game in the county park (bottom of photo below). ..... I think it is wonderful your wife and daughter are active with this sport. You have much to be proud of. .... One of dughters played in high school and her team placed 4th in the state (Michigan). ... After college she became a teacher / coach. She has coached V B in highschool and in  a V B club. She once was named High School Coach of the Year in Michigan. Currenlty her VB is curtailed as she raises two of our young grand children. Grandkids are beginning to learn the sport.

Good Morning,

Another dull day here and I hear the patter of raindrops on the skylight, drops we aren't supposed to be getting. We have the final push this afternoon to get  the yard wrapped up. It is more than yard work really as we will set up the roosting box and also move a feeder close to the house.

J.R. great to see you pop in! How is that Lotus running? A 23B wasn't it? Any updates on your New Haven construction?

I actually laid down a little road material on the N scale. I'm using Busch road product that looks good and has a glue on the back. It goes down easily but I am trying to get it down neatly under the underpass and that means some very careful cutting. First try and I had to pull it up. I will try again later today.

Have a nice day,

CN Charlie

Garry - That is pretty neat - nice photo

V8 - Yes one of those driverless cars did get pulled over for driving to slow. Wonder how they issued the ticket

Ray - What is BSA ?

Jim - How was the James Bond flick ?

JaBear - How does one do that with the pictures and the message and then post it ? Think those are pretty neat

JR - Hello

Tincan - How far do you have to go on the garage ? Building yourself or hiring out ?

CNCharlie - I came from a long line of rebels. My family is related to the confederate General Garnett who made it to the Northern Invaders line at Gettysburg before he was killed, I also have family who fought with the Rebels along side George Washington another famous rebel

Now back to MRR - On ebay there was a sale on brass locomatives from some guys collection - I wanted to buy some but the ones I wanted went to high. Did anyone pick up any in that sale ?

OK, folks, I gave you fair warning. The Diner's off-topic status is not license to violate Forum rules. Any further political/religious/otherwise inflammatory discussion on this thread and I bring out the ban hammer. Last warning.

All,

Thanks for the welcome back. Model Railroading took a back seat to w..k (another 4 letter word that needs banning) and I haven't been at the layout but once all year and that was to rob some hardware for another repair job. Last race is in Dec and then a couple of months to the next one so I hope to venture to the basement soon.    J.R.

Good Afternoon Diners,

Whoa!  What's been happening here.

Flo, do I want my usual coffee or TNT?!

Well, it's been raining much of the day here, but at least the temps are a little warmer than "normal" for this time of year.

Slightly tangent to MRRing, I found my old models that I built back in the 60s and 70s.  What a trip down memory lane.  Some of them I didn't even know that I had.  Fortunately, I know where all of my MRR stuff is.

Big SmileBig SmileBig Smile

Going to the symphony orchestra not this weekend , but next.  The program is going to be music from Disney.  Nice family fare.  Got MOH to like the symphony who was decidedly not a fan.

I hope everyone is OK, safe, and warm.

Less is more,...more or less!

Garry: I love that scene.  That is one of the neat things about model railroading; relating personal stuff to railroad stuff.  Neato!

Y:  Don't know yet.  Whatever I do, I can do myself.  Waffling between building a shed or finishing out part of the garage.

Afternoon gents!

Chloe, I could use a cup of decaf to tide me over to supper.  Please and thank you Ma'am...

I just put a half frozen chicken in the oven for supper....  I put it at a lower heat for the first half hour to see if I can unfreeze the rest of it before turning up the heat to 350°...  Probably will be 7:30 or 8PM beofre dinner will be ready.  I did just go out to the garden and brought in some shoots from the Broccoli plants.  They will become my vegetable and boxed stuffing will round out the meal.  These days I get about 7 or 8 meals out of a small chicken when I roast it.  Four or more regular meals and then the carcass gets boiled down to make up some home made soup!  That is ussually the best part of the whole thing.  I am ready to have something besides chicken before I run out though...

Progress....  Progress is being made, I hope, on the Girder bridge.  After several more hours of tedium the rivets are basically in place on the first half of the bridge.  I am not going to put the rivets in places where they will never be able to be seen.  I was told that shouldn't affect the outcome of whether the bridge will qualify for an NMRA Merit Award.

Rivets will be added to the top and bottom of the girders after the second half has been finished and the two sections are joined.  The bridge will then be ready to paint and weather....

Other than a couple other things I got done (I made a run to the post office mid afternoon), I have spent most of the day down cellar riveting the bridge...

Catch you later!

Good Afternoon,

Well we got most of the yard jobs done but as it is 4 p.m., we have packed it in so that the birds can have a last feed. It is starting to get dark here.

Jeremy, I bought Canadian National Steam by Donald McQueen. It is published by RailfareDC Books. Anything you want to know about the various classes of CN steam is covered in detail including modifications. It is a good book. There are also more detailed seperate volumes on the various classes. I just finished reading about the K5a which was CN's only Hudson. Of the 5 built 2 are still in existence, one at the museum in St. Thomas. I saw it there a couple of years ago. It is a beautiful engine with 80" drivers and I was told it often hit 100 mph hauling passenger trains. I missed my chance to get model of it a few years ago. BLI put out a limited run of them and I found one in a shop in Quebec but thought the grand price too high. I didn't realize at the time that it was a brass engine so it really wasn't too much. The one engine I regret not buying. They are very hard to find now used. There is a brass Van Hobbies version but the BLI one has DCC and sound.

Well, time for something, not sure what, say I think I hear the whistle of a Pacific calling me from downstairs. Best go see what is happening.

Evening gang.

Hope this finds everyone in good health and spirits. Prayers to those in need.

I'm just checking in for a second... not staying long. What started out as a great day for me turned into a rather sad one earlier this afternoon. Not going to shed much on the subject but my girlfriend has decided she needs a break. She has a lot of issues going on that she needs to deal with and rather than talking to people about them, she just runs off and doesnt say much. Not a good thing for a relationship but this is also not the 1st time she has done this sort of thing. As a matter of fact, they're becoming more frequent than less frequent. I'm just hoping that she finds a way to deal with those issues really soon so they dont put a damper on my holiday spirits. As such, I told her that I won't be joining her at her parents (who live 10 minutes from me) for Thanksgiving, so as to give her the space she wants/needs. I have had conversations with her since she left and she has assured me she's not out to hurt herself in any way shape or form. So, that's a good thing.

Anyways... enough of my problems. Have a good evening eveyone.

Take Care!

Drop by for a late night cup of tea please.

Howmus, interesting you mentioned dreams during your physical.  Last year took a Seniors Learning seminar on the brain.  One of the sessions delt with brain research on dreams.  It appears that many dreams are associated with processing information into long term memory and others related to resolving unresolved conflicts.  Pretty interesting stuff.

YGW, the James Bond movie, Spector, was as usual, entertaining with lots of action.  Some different plane crash scences, lots of intrigue and a real James Bond  love interest.  My understanding is that  this is Daniel Craig's last James Bond movie.

I spent the afternoon and evening playing bridge, the card game, and not layout construction.  Would probably have been more productive to be building a bridge like Howmus' as my cards were absolutely awful.

Time to turn in for the night.  Best wishes to everyone for another hump day.

Morning diners,

Make sure not to put much politics on the thread or the diner will be closed forever.

Winter has arrived in southwest coast region a few days ago with cold wind, and temperature. Has the winter season start yet in the northern hemisphere?

The car only needed  a little air in the tires so no need for new ones. My dad is leaving for Richmond today as he jumps into a plane at 2:30 p.m. It's going to be a very busy day today.

No news on my railroading status.

Angelob - Good first qoute 2nd qoute usually end badly like in handcuffs or hospital visits !

Ken - Love Rogers qoutes : ) !

Jim - Who is your favorite Bond ?

JP - Women - who can know them ? !

Ray - That is some very impressive work !

Tin Can If you build it your self you can save about 40 to 60% in cost.

UP831 - Were the old models ready to run, kits ???

Here are some qoutes I found if you wish to read tehm

The man dies in all who keep silent in the face of tyranny.

WOLE SOYINKA, The Man Died

Enlighten the people generally, and tyranny and oppressions of the body and mind will vanish like evil spirits at the dawn of day.

THOMAS JEFFERSON, letter to M. Dupont de Nemours, April 24, 1816

Tyrants are rebels against the first laws of heaven and society: to oppose their ravages is an instinct of nature, the inspiration of God in the heart of man.

JOSIAH QUINCY, Memoir of the Life of Josiah Quincy

Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom. It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves.

WILLIAM PITT, speech, November 18, 1783

Tyranny anywhere is a threat to freedom everywhere.”
Alex Storozynski,

Enclosed within the tyranny of our minds and there is where we are lost.”
Robert Dodson

And my final one :

“As a nation, we began by declaring that 'all men are created equal.' We now practically read it 'all men are created equal, except negroes.' When the Know-Nothings get control, it will read 'all men are created equal, except negroes, and foreigners, and Catholics.' When it comes to this I should prefer emigrating to some country where they make no pretense of loving liberty – to Russia, for instance, where despotism can be taken pure, and without the base alloy of hypocrisy.”

Steven probably would not close the diner but rather remove some of the "Patrons" from all the forums.....  That is what has happened before.  It would be a very good idea for all of us to tone down the STUFF and just behave ourselves.....  I'll try to do my part as well.

Sun has been shining all morning here in the Finger Lakes Region but the weather people say it is mostly cloudy...  Guess the mostly part will be this afternoon.  I have a load of wash going down cellar in the washer and one already being dried this morning.  Started work on the second half of the bridge too.

Catch you all later!

It's more like November here today.  I won't be going out for a bike ride today.  Instead, it will be a haircut and a trip to the drug store to refill one of my "Old Man Pill" prescriptions.

I mentioned earlier that I'm involved in a sports forum that has a Politics section, and invited any and all here who would like to add that to their bookmarks to send me a PM.  At the same time, I started a thread over there about freedom of speech and how much I appreciated the way that forum handled it, and a couple of guys there PM'd me expressing interest in trains and this forum.

A place for everything, and everything in its place, I suppose.  Now, how do I convince my wife that the basement, the living room, the dining room and the stairs are NOT the place for her shoe collection?

Good Afternoon Diners,

Flo, I'll have my usual extra large coffee with lots of cream, please.

Ok, this is Jim's 2 cents.  I hope Mr. Otte approves.

Even though we all know this, a small refresher may help.  This forum exists by the blessings of Kalmbach Publishing.  As such, we are invited guests to use this forum at their consent, which may be rescinded at any time without notice.  That is their prerogative.

We all know that there are plenty of unfortunate events happening in various parts of the world.  These events affect each of us either directly or indirectly and some more directly than others.  Because of this there is added stress and angst because so much of it is out of our direct control.

I would hope that this forum can be viewed as a haven apart from the rest of the world because there is plenty to get upset about out there.

My 2cents!

I hope everyone is OK, safe, and warm.

Was that comment for Me Angellob6660? I would be surprised is Steve found fault with thoses qoutes. That was humor from around 1934 or so not a political comments.

Has Ulrich and YGW Bugged out of the dinner? I hope not, I do enjoy them being around!

VA Visit Had to be there at 8:30 AM for the CT scan, I was in and out in around 15 minutes. All most seemed like a waste of time. Just hope for good results. Went to the walk in clinic to be checked for a kidney infection. Was not to happy with that part of the day. Doctor (male) wanted to push on parts I would rather not have pushed on by a male! All I wanted to do was pee in a cup and call it done! Whistling Then his boss came in, and told him to have me pee in a cup and I was done! Yes

Just donot understand my wife! She hates doing the dishes like I hate cutting the grass. Now, my self I don't mind washing the dishes. She wants to pile all of the dirty dishes in the sink to the point I cannot even get water in my cup. I keep telling her "put the dishes on the left counter top and I will be happy to wash the dishes!" Won't do it? Keeps filling the sinks and then complains she has to wash them? Whistling

Been watching a lot about viedos about the Romans, I like history. Here is one ypou folks may like.

 Later, Ken

Flo, no coffee right now.  I'll stop in later.

Ken:  I don't know for sure, but it's possible that Ulrich and YGW could have been 86' d from the diner.  I sure hope not.

Mornin'...

Zoe, I'll have a large bowl of Natures Path Smart bran Cereal topped with a handful of blueberries and a pot of Marrakesh Express Dark Roast coffee this morning.  My R&GV RR Mug would do nicely.

Man!  The place is empty today!  (snif, snif.........)  Hmmmm.  Niot me I guess, I showered before coming over.   Oh well.

Ray: i didn't mention earlier, that is a very nice bridge you're building. You even have the under supports. Amazing detail!

Thank you sir!  I am pretty much following the drawings from Harold Russell in one the Bridge Books from Kalbach.  Oh and I don't think that anyone has been banned yet, as their posts still have their screen names on them.  When someone gets banned, the "account" gets dropped and their names no longer will be attached to previous posts.  At least that is what has happened when some folks pushed the envelope too far before.

My quotes for the day:

"Anger is an acid that can do more harm to the vessel in which it is stored than to anything on which it is poured." - Mark Twain

"Education is hanging around until you've caught on." - Robert Frost

I have a huge amount of STUFF to get done today that I have managed to put off.  Yep, bad dreams again last night.  Guess I had better get away from sitting here watching the screen and get some things done.  catch you all later!
