 Evening Dinners

Flo, Beer Please and one for my son inlaw Shawn.

Been a busy day off. Had some running to do, and made the Hated House Payment to BOS. I blew off going to the VA Clinic today when I found out Shawn wanted to come over and help with the Yard Wars. I did buy some Cranberry pills because of the Kindey / Blader infection (forgot all about Cranberry pills) and they seem to be helping.

Here is the thrid pile of brush / trees I dragged out.

Shawn was going to call around 10:00 am to see what time I wanted him to show up. I got a late start and told Sue to tell him to show up between 11:30 and 12:00. She called me at 10:30 and said Shawn was there? Told her what I would like to have him do, clean around the edge of the pool so I could walk around and not trip.

Got home at 12:00 and guess where I found Shawn? Stand thigh deep in the swiming pool!

Seem he found out the same as I did that the plants had grown into the pool cover. So, he decided if he could not beat them (plants in the pool) join them! To say I was stunned is a understament! It was around 60 degrees and sunny. There was a real strong wind so he had to be cold. Water had to be around 50 at best?

He spent around 4 hours in the pool? Boy he is tuff, good thing with him being married to my daughter! Anyway here is what he dragged out of the pool!

While it is still a mess you can now see there is a pool in there.

 One bite at a time.

 Latter, Ken

Hunter - When we met in January of 2000, you were just a 6 week old pup who walked his way into this heart of mine as the only runt in the litter who would come over to me. And today, I sit here and tell you I am sorry we had to put you down. It was the best thing for you and also the right thing to do. May you now rest in peace and comfort. Love, Dad. 8 June 2010

I love you and miss you Mom. Say hi to everyone up there for me. Rest in peace and comfort. Love, John. 29 March 2017

Mr. B. - What bikes do you have in your stable?

I've got a 30 year old Guerciotti road bike and a 25 year old Cannondale mountain bike.  Both are in very good shape and I'm happy with them.  The Guerciotti gets appreciative comments from knowledgible bikers I meet on the road.

I'm glad you're enjoying your weather.  Ours has turned for the worse, and I'll have few biking days left before the weather takes me off the road until spring.  I spent this afternoon in the gym, getting re-acquainted with "pumping iron" and being bored out of my mind on the treadmill.

Mr. B... Is that your mug shot?

Yes, I'm afraid it is.  I've never had a chance to see the Dead before, and this was such a great opportunity I could not have passed it up.

Good evening Diners,

Just a very quick note.

YGW:  sent you an e-mail.  Your design is very minimalist.  We're yo planning on any HVAC or plumbing?

Ulrich: your dentist looks like a fun person.  She must keep you laughing while she's drilling for oil.

Theres no picture of a lioness for Lion.  Oh well, there's still wildebeast.

I hope everyone is OK, safe, and warm.

Afternoon Folks!

Chloe, just coffee in my RhB mug, please - and I don´t mind if you add a handful of chocolate chip cookies!

I am up to nothing today. Just ran a train for a few minutes, that´s all. Maybe it´s because it´s Friday the 13th today, I don´t know.

If you are also up to nothing, why don´t you join me in a trip from Oslo to Bergen in Norway? It´s a cab ride - all 7 hrs. and 15 min. of it Smile, Wink & Grin

I am really worried about our friend Galaxy. He has been away for two weeks now without a word. My email to him is still unanswered. I´d give him a call, but I don´t have his number. I still hope is just too busy getting things right after the move.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a short stack of Buckwheat Pancakes with real NYS Maple syrup and a couple sausage links please.  Oh, I could also use a pot (or two) of Marrakesh Express Dark Roast Coffee for my R&GV RR mug.  Please and thank you Ma'am!~

I had a nice long post almost typed up and ready to post earlier and I went to check something else without opening a new window...  Duh!  Lost it all.

Ulrich, I don't think that Galaxy was anywhere near actually moving yet.  They haven't bought the house as of the last time we heard from him, still waiting on some details.  I fear that one of his ailments has caught up with him again..........  Hope he gets back in here soon and eases our fears for him.  I have him in my prayers.

I will be spending most of the day getting everything I need to take to the Batavia Train Show this Subday ready to go and packed.  I have to arrive by 8:15 or so and it is an hour and 15 minute drive via Thruway to get there.  If any of you go to the show, stop by the Lakeshores Division, NMRA booth and say hi!

My quote for the day... "Part of the secret of a success in life is to eat what you like and let the food fight it out inside." - Mark Twain

The weather outside my window is Partly today...  Lots of clouds, a little sun, sometimes sprinkling while the sun is shining, but mostly chilly and icky out there...  Currently 47°F with a high of 48°F mid afternoon.

Catch you all later!

Ray - that´s exactly what I was afraid of. He has been running from a few issues recently - I think some of them have caught up with him.

Let´s light a prayer candle for him!

I feel pretty bad today - the news are really alarming. I won´t bother you with the detail, though - it´ll mean violating forum rules anyway.

The below video decribe my feelings better than words could do it:

Garry,

I'm always around.....I just don't post much anymore....Wish You would have got a little bigger horse...to pull that livestock trailer around...those 47 Chevy's only had a in-line flat head six in them.

Can You send or receive PM's?? Send Me one and I'll give You My e-mail addy. I'm on other sites alot...But everthing goes thru My e-mail...I have a Multi-screen set up on My PC, so I'm easy to get.

Just finished a Alloy Forms tandem axle Ford dump truck that come out great...working on a Autocar Constructor tandem tractor, with a lot of mod's, that weren't in the kit. Hopefully My cameraman will be available soon. He's a ATM at the UP Intermodal facility near us and He's been having to work all kinds of weird times...I swear...I think He's the only one who knows how to run that facility, without screwing up. They just fired two supervisors there for always screwing up, after three warnings. I don't know where they get these people from, but for college grads, supposedly, they don't know much.

I believe Galaxy is trying to get His life in order at home first...Lot more things going..than We know. I have His real name and stuff....But I was asked not to give it out, so I'm just complying to His request.

Take Care! Big Smile

Frank .... My PM's don't work for me anymore in this forum. .. Thanks for your thoughts. I have another idea for the Chevy tractor. My lumber yard could use a small flat bed truck for retail deliveries. I think it could be converted to that. ... What tractor would you suggest for the livestock trailer? How do you clean the resin castings prior to assembly? One guy suggested orange cleaner in another thread. .... Will you be contacitng Galaxy. In my old emails I might be able to find him. I remember his real foirst name but of course don't disclose it as he requests.

Thought I'd drop in; been monitoring the thread, but didn't have much to add...

Our LHS closed on 10/31; it was a Hobbytown USA, the 2nd Hobbytown to close in the last 10 years.   Some weird dynamics involving the closure; there had been a sale for the franchise, but the landlord doubled the rent on the new franchisee; which in effect, killed the sale.  Doesn't make much sense, because now the landlord has zero rent....

Remember the tin can; the MKT's central Texas branch...

Good afternoon all! Garry (Heartland) - The household is doing well, thanks. A lot has happened in my life since I was in here last. I've got yet another new g/f. This one has been the best one I've had since I was a teen back in the 80's. She is super sweet and we get along very well. She and her dog moved in with me and my 3 cats back in July. We are one big happy family. She's currently out of town anticipating the arrival of her 1st grandchild tomorrow at the latest. As for myself, I am also anticipating the arrival of my 3rd niece any day now, courtesy of my brother and sister in-law. This will be their 3rd girl. Back in July, I retired from the military after 21+ years of service. I had been helping out a buddy of mine who is an electrician, but since I know very little about that work, there's not much I can do, and as a result, I have not worked for him in over a month. And, last summer, I started my own landscaping and lawn mowing business. Needless to say, that is not producing any income at this time of year as I don't do snow plowing. So, now I am looking for a new job. How's everyone else on this fine mid November day?

Garry,

Well as far as the PM's go...as long as no one on this thread minds Me posting solely to our Q's.

The reason for Me objecting to the Chevy tractor, is quite simple... It's only a two ton tractor, those livestock trailers when loaded can be upwards of 15 ton or better, depending upon, what is being hauled. If You would like a little challenging kit/body for it and a great show piece when finished...look at GC Laser, all wood, highly detailed bodies. I had made a few and stained them, not painted them so the nail and separate boards show:

http://www.walthers.com/exec/search?manu=292&category=Part&split=30

As far as the Sylvan's....I clean up all the castings with Diamond plated Jeweler's files, drill any and all holes, then wash with simple Green diluted with warm water and soft tooth brush or dish soap detergent. Some I prime and the rest I don't. Some of those parts are very brittle and near impossible to wash without breaking, but I have had no problem with them not being washed before painting or glue not holding. I use nothing but Zap-A-Gap medium CA for assembly, it works for Me so I stuck with it...I'm sure there are other CA's that will work, but when I modify the kits with brass shapes and music wire pins and reinforcement plastic, they all bond perfect with the Zap. I use GS Hypo cement for the window glasing, which by the way is not an easy task to install.....Hope Your patience is up to snuff....You'll need it....might even learn some ''new'' cuss words. LOL.

I would suggest kit V-155 for the livestock trailer....1940-1958 White Super power tandem axle tractor. The common carrier I worked for for 15yrs still used those 1946 Fruehauf trailers, with some mods, like removing one axle, well into the 70's/80's.

Here is a link to where I get My Sylvan's..He give's a discount on most kits. His name is Frank also and He's involved with some of the other sites and clubs I belong to....also a retired Teamster.

http://www.amerproto.com/sylvan.htm

Like I said as long as no one objects....I'll help any way I can.

JPOWELL, Don't know You...But Hi!!

Take Care, All! Big Smile

Frank

BTW: Garry the truck in the pic', Transcon in between the two cars, is a white super power, but with integral sleeper, cars are Sylvans also:

Good Afternoon,

It is only 20 past 4 here and the sun is going down. It will be dark by 5, oh well, that time of year. At least the weather is nice. We are expecting 52F the next 3 days!!! Normal is 30F.

Today I took my wife to see her gastroenterologist and he will be doing an endoscopy on her in 3 weeks. He doesn't think there is a serious issue but it has been 5 years since her last one so he wants to have a look.

I went in to get some blood drawn for a PSA test as I see my Urologist for my 6 month check.

Today a couple of books I ordered 6 weeks ago finally arrived. They are Canadian National Steam and one of the roster books with detail info on several classifications. Should keep me busy for quite some time.

Well soon time for supper. Robbie will be letting me know it is that time shortly. Yesterday I had to fill his food container and told him so. He promptly led me to the spot where we store the large bag of food. Sometimes I really wonder about that dog as he just seems to undertand so much of what we say.

Well time to head out.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just another refil for my decaf please...

Been a busy day today.  Printed a whole lot of hand outs to take to the Batavia Show on Sunday.  Plugged in and checked the old Mac laptop.  The battery was down to 35%.  Let that charge the rest of the day and it stopped charging at 95%...  The old thing still works fine but it looks as the battery is starting to fade on it.  Almost never use it without plugging in so I'm not terribly concerned.  I only use it a few times a year anymore, but enough that I really need to have one.  It has to be about 16 years old or so as I had back when I was still teaching.   All it gets used for is showing Powerpoint slide shows at places for organizations I am involved with.

The new batteries for my keyfob on the PiP arrived this evening.  The New driver for UPS here is one of my students from back when and he was all grins to see me again....  Switching the Batteries was a piece of cake since I watched a video last week on how to do it.  It might have abeen a bit intimidating if I hadn't...  The fob costs a few hundred $ so I sure didn't want to screw it up.  I have two fobs and the one that has been sitting in the drawer in the kitchen was completely dead so both got new batteries and now work.

Spent about 3 more hours doing rivet work on the bridge......  I have it all done now except for the bottom.  That shouldn't take long.  Photos tomorrow.

Catch you all tomorrow...  Prayers for all in need!

Good morning ...

JP ... Thanks for serving 21 years! .... We attended the Veterans Day parade. We appreciate the Armed Forces. .... Glad to learn about your family situation. Congratualtions for the new arrivals. Best wishes finding a job. If you like working with electrical stuff, you may consider taking classes about it.

Ulrich ... We are saddened about the Paris attacks and what is going on in Europe.

Frank ... Thanks for the info and suggestions. The suggested White tractor sounds good. Thanks to the link to your friend's site, too. ... For the flatbed truck I'll show you what I did before. .... First, a little background. My lumber yard has had one flatbed truck and two stake trucks. I moved the two stake trucks recently to my new rural scene where they look more appropriate. So, now the lumber yard has only one delivery flatbed truck. I was already thinking there should be one more. ... So you said the Chevy tractor would not look right with the livestock trailer. (I should have asked you before buying. Oh well.) ... I think I can make it into a flatbed. I may make a longer frame when I do so. I appreciate your suggestion of buying a kit for adding a flatbed to a chassis. However, look at what I made with Evergreen styrene pieces in the photo below.. The truck is made from a Stoney Mountain kit with solid resin cab.

You can see that flatbed truck backed up to the lumber dock in the picture below.

As you can tell, the vehicles on my layout serve as scenic props.

Also, Frank, if you can contact Galaxy, please let him know we Diners care about him.

Just coffee please. Thanks. Say, what's this dent in the rivet counter? Oh, Ray really HAS been counting rivetsIndifferent.

Good to see JP stopped in a couple times. Glad to see things are good there. Good luck with the job hunt and congrats on the retirement!

Happy late B-day to Johnboy, Charlie and Frank!

Also good to see the Lion is on the prowl back on his home turf as well.

Welp, business as usual, I did get down in the train room a few times. Only have one stud to put up before I can drywall that area so the shelves and stuff can be built to get the stuff off the floor etc etc etc…. Why haven’t I put the last stud up yet? Well sillies, if I did that then I’d be done with that part!Confused

Sad

Just Morning Gang,  (not good)

My heart and condolences go out to those injured in the Paris raids and to those Families and Friends who lost loved ones. A person can hardly imagine their feelings at this time. I am thankful my Wife arrived home safe from Paris less than a month ago.

Ulrich,  I also feel for you and your frustration in knowing there is little to nothing you can do about the situation there. But, thankyou for giving it a good try a couple of years ago. Ke- sera sera,  (spelling)

Chloe, I'll have a double Denver with homefries this morning and a HC to chase, if you please. I'll be up front and center so I can see who comes in.

GARRY,  Where did you get the HO scale plgb fixtures.  I have found some down to about 1/64 but not 1/87.  That scene looks real good. Great job on that truck too. I have not yet attemped a Slyvan model yet so I will put that on my to do list.

FRANK,  Thanks for all your great tips and pointers for trucks and vehicles. You do amazing things with them. Any of us would be proud to have them on our layout.

V8 DENNIS, Glad to hear your car will be repaired and hope the bill isn't too stiff.

J.P.,  You made it feel like "Homecoming" by dropping in, sure good to hear from you again. Glad your life and family are shaping up and like Garry I encourage you to follow through with some training in Electrical if you have an interest there and sounds like a job if you would follow through.

CN.CHARLIE, now that all the pots are put away and the gardening and pond fish are looked after for the winter, I bet we will see great progress on your railroads now,  hope some of it will be on the HO, side.

Br. ELIAS DONALD LION,  very glad to hear the recuperation is progressing well and that you will be back in your upstairs, second floor, Underground Subway System before long. Those Commuters have been waiting a long time for that train.

RAY, Great looking driveway, sure glad you got it in before the snow flew.

CHOO CHOO WILLIE,   Where art though ?

Well, the second Bluepoint turnout controller went in in less than 25o/o of the time it took the first one.  What I found on the first one was that no matter where I set the slide it couldn't get enough torque to throw the turnout. I played and played with everything I could imagine to do and still wouldn't work. So I thought what else could I try, and came up with the only thing left is to change out the turnout. So I did that and it worked right away. Seems that the original Peco must of had a much stronger spring in it that the controller couldn't overcome.  All is good now.

Back at work for the week end, 7.5 hour shifts, then two days off.

Better get back to work here, so I will check in again later.

Johnboy out, ..................in sadness  Sigh

from Saskatchewan, in the Great White North..

We have met the enemy,  and he is us............ (Pogo)

Foo again.  It will only be in the low 40s today.  I'll be going to the gym instead of taking a bike ride.  I started doing "machines" a couple of days ago.  Bike riding is great for my quadriceps, but it does little for my upper body.  The machines should help tone that up some, and also get me in better condition for skiing.

I, too, am deeply saddened by the loss of so many innocent lives in Paris.  I wish this forum had a "Like" function so I could support Ulrich's post.

November 14: The quotes and word of the day.

Time flies over us, but leaves its shadow behind.

Well it is gonna be nice today, at least for Northern Illinois in November. Wife and I went to the diner down the street for breakfast. Biscuts and Gravy warms ones innards.  My granddaughter, a 2 year old, shoved a carrot up her nose and had to have a doctor get it out. It took 3 adults to hold her so the doc can do his stuff.

Did some major rework to the layout works fine but in eliminatiing 2 reverse loops it means rewiring. It will be worth it tho in the long run.

This is really a sad day! The number of victims is "down" to 128 and "only" 300 persons injured, but we are all aware that this can and will happen again - at any time and at any place.

It´s a crying shame to listen to what the politicians have to say about it - they are the ones responsible for this massacre.

No MRRing for me today - I just don´t feel like enjoying myself.

Afternoon folks.....

Zoe, just a refill for my coffee, please.

After the international news last night I decided to immerse myself in doing more riveting on the bridge this morning, and cuddling with my kitty cats.

My quote for the day?  "In prayer it is better to have a heart without words than words without a heart." - Mahatma Gandhi

My thoughts and prayers go to all people who have lost so much due to man's inhumanity to man and greed...

Edit:  Well said Brother Elias!

I need to start loading the car for the Train Show in Batavia, NY tomorrow.  Catch you all later!

Evening gang! Hope all is well with everyone this evening.

Prayers for those that need them, especially those affected by the tragedy in Paris last evening.

Garry , TMarsh - Thanks! I'm enjoying not being in the military. I had been experiencing a lot of stress the last few years. I guess I didn't know what to expect when I became Supervisor of the shop I had worked in for 12 of my 15 years in the NY Air National Guard.

Frank - Nice to meet you. I'm John... or JP as most in here know me by.
