Haven't made 100 feet yet. Does telling the therapist how to do the exercise help? My father came today and told the physical therapy class the exact same thing I've been telling them about confidence. If you've already told yourself you can't do something you've already defeated yourself.  He also told them they'd be wise to take my advice and follow my lead as I'm the most confident and determined person they could meet.

You WILL make 100 feet sooner of later, with or without two feet of your own.

Some people are so used to "having" something, that "not having" is something they cannot do without or deal with!

They DON't or haven't had to, yet, learn to deal with COMPENSATING somehow someway for something lost. BE it money, health or body parts.

I dont have to compensate as much as you do, but:

There are days my back is so bad I can hardly move {come to think of that happens every morning Untill I get meds onboard}, and I do WHAT I CAN, not do EVERYTHING. I compensate and do other chores/things i CAN do, for as long as i can do it, then take a break or keep going if the end is in sight. My knee doesn't help any either in the morning! But I HAVE to take the meds and excersize them to get them "moving" SO I CAN move later without much pain.

There are times, like after getting the injections that I HAVE to "take a break" and let the trauma wear off of the injections, and so i rest a few days so that I WILL be 'as good as new" {or as good as can be} SOONER than later.

Being Bipolar with chronic depression, I have HAD to change my "outlook" so I am not all doom and gloom...Like I used to be all the time...I Changed and try to keep a positive attitude now. Doesn't ALWAYS work, but more often or not it does. Can't worry about the times it doesn't...

Yes, Jeffrey, if your tablet will hold it, you should write a book while you are in there, on positive-stick-to-itive-ness-possibility-thinking-mind-set book!

well, I am up latre with MOH, but shortly to beddy-poo and snuggles wiht the cat...

Evenin' folks!

Janie, another refill for my decaf please...

I have no idea what I am doing up at this hour.  Doesn't matter I guess...

The sun hide behind a bunch of really, really nasty dark, gloomy, wet, rainy clouds today.  The solar panels on the roof made..... 1kWh today.....  Yep, enough to run a 100 watt lightbulb for 10 hours....  Whoopie!  Tonight, well the weather forecast for tonight is, "Dark, continued dark, with widely scattered light by morning." -George Carlin

Later...  Prayers for all in need!

Slept in this morning. Got up at 2:45. Went to the dining hall, turned on the lights and both TV's then made a slow trip down each hall before going back to my room. My roommate was still asleep. Sounded like he was sleeping good as the saws were running at full speed. No plans for today except to keep the positive attitude up.

The phisical therapy staff say I'm most positive infuence they could have in the home. My 'never say die' attitude and the constant reminder that the key to keep going is yours to keep or lose is a very powerful reminder that you can do whatever you put your mind to." I saw somebody do something and I can think I can do that too". To those who constantly say 'I'll try' I say 'Don't try, do it or don't do it. There's no 'try'. Do it or don't.

Inch .... I'm curious why the forum software does not have a reply box each time you post. Not a big problem because I can post from other posts with the reply boxes. ..... It's good to hear the sounds of real trains. One thing I don't hear where we live now, but some of the tow boats have EMD diesels for what it is worth.

Jeff ... You are an early riser. Glad the people there recognize your positive attitude.  You are amazing.

Happy Model Railroading, everybody.

Mornin', I think....

Got out of bed and looked out the window to find some big white things falling out of the sky!  Mostly just rain, but every so often punctuated by a few white thingies....

Zoe, I think this morning would be a good time to get a short stack of buttermilk Pancakes with real NYS Maple Syrup, a couple sausage links, and a very large cup of Seneca Lake Blend dark roast coffee...  Thank you my dear!

Currently 35°F outside with a high of 38°F later in the day...  Tonight the temp will dip to 29°F.  Coldest it has been here in the Finger Lakes this Fall.  My son from Chicago will be arriving this evening.  He is here for the funeral of his last Aunt.  Aunt Helen was 83 when she passed last week.  She was the last of that generation...  My son has gotten to know a couple of her sons fairly well doing geneology stuff on the family, so he wanted to be here for the service.  Haven't decided whether I will attend or not.  I would have to get up fairly early to drive to Bristol for the service.  There will be some other relatives from my wife's family that I haven't seen in a while most likely.  I'll see what the day brings.

Jeffrey, you make a good Yoda!  Keep up the good work.

Catch you later!

Good Afternoon!

I had two pretty bad days the last days, but today it was a good day. Despite all health issues, I made it to the Bremen model railroading show. The layouts on display were disappointing, only one Colorado narrow gauge layout from a UK team was worth looking at. I spent some time with those guys chatting, and we had a great time. MAde me forget my aching back and feet. The vendors had only the usual overpriced junk to sell, so I did not get any of what I was looking for. I did buy a new loco, though. It´s a Minitrix Deutshe Bahn boxcab electric, similar to the one I already have, but in a different paint scheme. At Euro 40 vs. Euro 170 certainly a steal and brand new! I bought at a stand manged by Deutsche Bahn to sell souvenirs. OK, I´ll have to invest another Euro 20 to "chip it", but that´s a plug n´play job. I am quite happy with this haul!

Jeff - good to see you are in a good spirit and a big motivator for your fellow "inmates" Laugh

Have a happy one!

For lunch today we had fried catfish and hushpuppies. Now the nurse can't figure out why my blood sugar level is over 500. Duh! Having crab salad, garden salad and a zest cookie for dinner tonight. Got a new guy in the home today. He spends a lot of time talking about his favorite subject. Himself. When he gets to the end of the line he starts over. Same subject, no changes. I've been looking for his volume control. He's hard of hearing and assumes everybody else is too. As he launched into the twelth retelling of the recent points of his life a woman at the next table turned around and told him to shut his yap or she'd come over and nail it shut for him! Maggie Davis looks like Mt Everest with legs! Even I'm not big enough to scare her off. The guy started to say something and I waved a finger at him and he shut up and the other diners applauded.

Well

~saw the psychiatrist, He agrees, I am still certified crazy in the head, with more papers to prove it! He called in the wrong med though, bad bad psychiatrist! By the time I got the results, it was to late for him to change it as he wasn't in the office any more.

~ We got a  *nasty monster storm* hitting the USA in ALaska will cause a major *cold snap* to descned on the USA...even into Jeffrey's territory! I hope he has someone turn on the heat at his trailer so his pipes don't freeze! I HOPE that home has heat!

~We went and bought a new mattress, finally. Vets day sale at Raymour & Flannigan, on sale. Had to the springs poking out are poking us to death. GEts delivered next wednesday, and MOH finally got the new area rug that has been wanted for what, 2 years? To replace the oriental thread bare one. MOH lOVES the oriental, BUT wanted a "whole different look'. SO we got a random geometrical shapes one. This one:

http://www.raymourflanigan.com/bolero-area-rug-170002661.aspx

in the 5x7,6" size. The 7,6' will leave exactly 1 inch on either side before the furnace vents which if you know trailers, are in the middle of the floor. I pick the rug next week when in. The saleman didn't get a sale the last sale they had as we didn't buy, deciding to put it off, but no more, we can't stand the springs any more. But, he got an easy sale tonight. I will hate the payments, but what are you gonna do?

~a warning theives are stealing cars out of driveways without even keys. Every 40 SECONDS a car is stolen in the USA, A WARNING.  I don't think MY minivan is among the *hot ones* to steal as they are stealing luxury cars and, but i think MOH's is-its NOt a luxyry, in fact a base model Hyundai Elantra. But brand new anyway. But they don't exactly care what kind it is, a working car is worth some $$ to someone! also buy from a  REPUTABLE firm when buying used, these stolen ones you are out of the money spent if you buy one that is stolen.

~well, we had dinner. Beouf, mushroomed rice, carrotas.

Have a delightful night's sleep, I think I am due for a nap now...

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, Beer Please

Has Not Been A Good Day Off. It started at 5:00 AM and Sparkie had to go out real bad. The fact he woke me up told me he really had to go. He went 4 times while I had him out. Then when we came in I saw he had pee in the kitchen before I got him out. There was Blood in his Urine, the meds he is on cause Kiddey Infections and he has one! Dam, I hate the meds he is on!

Been exhausted all day. I don't know if it was because I got up at 5:00 AM to let Sparkie out, or just slept bad. Fell a sleep with the TV on and started to dream about Ninja Turtles? Woke up to a Ninja Blender Informerical?

Did a lot of running. After picking up Sparkies new Meds I did the needed buying. I was gone for 3 hours!

Lost my AOL Acount? Seems AOL turned off my screen name because I had not been using it? Guess it had been 6 months, now how do I get that turn back on?

Train Front. Bang Head I have to many turnouts! I wanted to break in the new B&O GP 30 and need to park two coal trains on passing spurs. Then I needed to move a Monon mixed freight on to the main line. Took me around 15 mintues to move all the trains.

Then it seems I lost a Monon B unit! Bang Head It is a PK 1000 engine and they seem to eat motors if the decoder does not BBQ first. I really should swear off of them.

New PK 2000 B&O GP 30. While it seems to run well and farily quite it seems I solder the resistor on the wrong side of the LED. No lights so it is hard to keep track of. What ha me Caboosed is it seems every time I get a new engine up and running, one dies? Bang Head But I do run them a lot.

 See you later.

Jeff - Keep up the good work !

Ulrich - grats on the new purchase. Sounds like it was not a total waste.

Chuck - wow 58 people ? Do you belong to a club ?

Evening could I get a barley pop please. Getting chilly out, already, glad footballs done.

GARRY,,,, it is nice to hear the trains most the time. Every so often we’ll get a cowboy doing the switching into Little Johns, his goal is to make as much noise as he can with empties. They’re loud enough to wake us up from a sound sleep with all the banging. Also CSX has one engine that sounds like a helicopter.

Don’t know why reply doesn’t show on my post

Had another death in the family, my 2’nd cousin, Wauneta, She was in her 80’s and had been in a nursing home the last couple years. It’ll be hard on her middle son, Chuck, he lost his wife to cancer back in June.

Well time some TV n trains catch ya’ll laters.

inch53 - There is always a "reply" on your posts on my screen. But I think there's something quirky about "reply" on this web site. If I post all text, I'll see a "reply" on my post, but if I post a photo, there's no "reply" on my screen. Been this way since the last upgrade, or should I say degrade. By the way, what is Little John's?

As I mentioned last week, we bought a new cloths dryer, but they refused to install it. So the plumber was called & replaced the gas line. I called the store on Wednesday & they sent their truck over today to haul away the old one. Also had to call our appliance repairman this week for the dishwasher. A spring on the right side of the door broke. He came back the next day & replaced both springs. Figured if one broke, the other wasn't probably in much better shape. Springs were inexpensive, but labor, not so much. But this guy is so good, he's worth it. Also got a call this evening from my plumber saying he will be here Tuesday to install new bath & shower controls, as well as replace the shut off valves under the vanity. Neither one of those shuts the water off anymore. I guess we are into one of those cycles where things are getting along in age & need to be replaced. Except for the wife of course. I'll keep her because she has a lifetime warranty. At least that's what she says.

No railfanning this weekend. The wife has a baby shower to attend tomorrow. Then there's a train show on the other side of town on Sunday, so I'll probably head over to that. Think it will be a good time to do some Christmas shopping while she's busy with the baby shower.

Cold, windy & little white thingys in the air here today. I'm not ready. Oh, the snow blower is all set, along with a couple of bags of calcium chloride, but I'm not ready.

Hoping everyone has a nice weekend & stays safe.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a cup of hot decaf for me please...

Spent the evening out at my son's house.  Other son arrived from Chicago so we all had a great steak dinner out there.  These things were huge, I'd say over to a lb. each.  DIL said they looked at one local store and they were priced at $17 lb.!!!  They found them a bit cheaper at another local store.  I cut mine in half and it was still about twice what I normally eat these days.

Good to se son #2.  He is in town for the funeral of his great aunt.  She was the last living person of that generation in my wifes family.  I decided that I am not going to go tomorrow to the service as I really don't know that prt of the family much at all.  I'll see most of the people I do know some time later this fall...  I also have a long list fo items I need toget done.

Got some scheduling done today for the Cub Scout Pack I am part of.  We will be getting a fir staion tour and some good fire safety for the cubs next Tuesday.  We have the possibility of two more new cubs for the pack...  I also started moving the firewood from my side driveway over to the back porch.

My sn0w blower is out and ready to go on the deck....  Need to buy some rock salt to use though.  May get a bag tomorrow.  When I left my son's house tonight, the top of the car roof was white....  Car is Winter Gray colored (dark graphite).  Yep, that time of year...

Ken, hope Sparkie gets better quickly.  Always hate to see pets not feeling good.

Galaxy. so are they "coming to take [you] away, Ha, Ha???"  Has your other half passed the stone yet?  If YOH has been taking Codeine pain killer, that is part of the problem.  It will shut the kidneys down and not pass the stone.  I decided with the last stone I had to use the old Haudenosaunee (Seneca) cure.  After 3 weeks of not passing the stone and being in agony most of the time, I dumped the pain meds down the toilet, and every time I had pain just drank a large glass of water.  Passed it in two days!  The next step at the docs was I would be going into surgery.  If the kidneys aren't producing urine, they ain't gonna flush a stone though......

Time to load the wood stove ('tis all of 33°F outside) and head to bed.  Later!

A short time ago I had a 68 year od man telling me he couldn't get off a coach and onto his wheelchair. I'm a super positive thinker! Don't tell me you CAN'T do something. This guy has all his limbs and he has the ability to do it. But he chooses to whine about not being able to do it because he's afraid of getting hurt, so he atrracts someone to help him do something I do ten times a day, at least. I can bathe, clothe and if needed feed myself UNAIDED and I have no legs! Another man demanded that I get him a cup of coffee. I looked him in the eye and said that if I, a man with no legs can get coffee for myself there's no reason he can't get his own coffee. He's just too lazy to do it! And if he doesn't like it he can kiss my butt.

Good Morning!

My back is still hurting a little from yesterday´s tour to the Bremen model railroad exhibition, so today will be a day to relax.

I just uploaded the few usable pictures to "The Bucket" to share with you:

A small and highly detailed Z scale layout:

A US prototype N scale layout with a dramatic skyline:

A well made, typical German N scale layout:

Most of the displayed layouts were mounted way too low and lacked lighting, so taking pictures didn´t work out very well. I took about 40 pictures, and only those three here are worth looking at Super Angry

And here is a picture of my haul:

I started to look for a suitable DCC decoder, but I am afraid I need to get some advice which one to buy. There is at least a dozen which seems to fit into the loco without any moification and I have no idea which woukd be the best choice for me. I wrote emails to various vendors and am now waiting for their reply.

Jeff - you certainly live to what your Indian last name implies!

Have a happy Saturday!

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a bowl of Organic Vanilla Almond Granola, a 10 cup pot of Seneca Lake Blend Dark Roast coffee to keep my R&GV RR Mug filled, and last nights paper to prop up in front of me to give the appearance i am busy....

Another dark, gloomy, chilly, damp, gray day ourside this morning. Currently 38°F ourside with a possible high of 46°F sometime when I'm not looking.  I am about to go light the woodstove for the day.

Hope to get several more wheelbarrow fulls of firewood moved to the back porch today.  My son from Chicago will be stopping by to spend a bit of time with Dear old Dad sometime this afternoon after all the "festivities" surrounding the funeral get finished.  I also need to run the vacuum cleaner to make the place look a bit, ah...., well you know.

To balance out Galaxy's nice positive quotes for today here is another from George Carlin: "Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that." Whistling

Later, maybe....

I got one to beat Carlin:

Remember this: a full one half of ALL doctors graduated at the bottom of their class, what position was your doctor in?

LOL

One of our so-called energy savings light bulbs exploded today, emitting a small cloud of mercury. I put a piece of cloth over my mouth and nose and collected the remains of it and took them outside into the "bin". I then bought replacement bulbs, but this time the LED type. They save even more energy than those "energy savers" and are supposed to have a much longer service life. And they even cost less!

For those interested, here are some vitals of my new loco´s prototype:

The loco is rated at 8,650 dbhp, which is about 40% more than a Big Boy had. Top speed is at 88mph for the freight version and 145mph for the passenger version. Due to its much lower mass, the tractive effort is about half of the big Boy´s figure, which weighed about 5 times more. One of the interesting features of this loco is its ability to run on various different systems, like the standard German, Austrian and Swiss system of 15kV, 16 2/3 Hz AC, the French and Italien 25kv, 50 Hz AC systems, as well as on 3kV or 1,5kV DC networks. The loco is also known as the "killer" of the Swiss loco industry, as the Swiss Federal Railway turned to Siemens for their new generation of locos, cancelling all orders with SLM in Winterthur. Subsequently, SLM was closed.

Railfanning has become a little boring, as this type has developed into the mainstay of electric traction in Europe!

Ulrich: good job on replacing with LED "light bulbs" Ours are not qquite so cheaper-than-the-CFLs here, but we are supposed to 'save energy"...we MUST be using it elsewhere as we don't seem to be saving much on the electric bill...Whistling

We did it becasue A] the "bulbs" are supposed to last like 20 years and we have some that are almost "always on", and they often needed replacing. These were the full daylight spectrum CFLs.and B} the bulbs are supposed to cost pennies to operate.

Now we have the "daylight" LEDs in the primary most lamps, the two ceiling fixtures that are enclosed we CANNOT use them in as the bulbs say so.They need to dissipate heat I guess...

Except the expense of going solar like RAY, we are doing what we can to save energy!

To many "phantom devices" likethe cable box, which if you unplug it {the only ay to NOT draw electricity} it has to reboot each time, so it draws phantom energy or you have to reboot anytime you want to watch tv!

have a great evening...wonder what JEFFREy is having for dinner?
