Well I had a awful night I couldn't sleep half way though waking up every few hours.
Recently I thought of two things while my brother's dog yesterday on Halloween. Than I called it 2 things I hate about Halloween.
1.) Cars and traffic. I was waiting to cross the street, you know normal traffic. Than a white car decided to stop out of nowhere for me to cross the street while 2 cars had to stop behind the car. It also happened again coming out of the park but this time the car was driving very slow more like 3 mph. for me crossing the street. (No another day that people would stop their vehicles to let someone pass.)
2.) Why decorate your house for Halloween if you're not pass out free candy for the trick or treaters. (FYI don't start trick or treating at 6:00 p.m. when the sun is barely set. There's some sunlight go around 6:45 or 7:00 p.m. when it's fully dark outside.)

Dark, cold, and gloomy outside today here in the Finger Lakes Region of NYS. currently 38°F with a high predicted of 41 sooner or later. I will likely get the wood stove fired up. Will spend much of the day out at my son's house celebrating his 48th. birthday. It was actually last tuesday but this is the first everybody has been able to get together.
Had about 20 Trick or Treaters last night. First two were a couple beautiful little girls! My granddaughters! They got both the candy from the big bowl and some butterscotch toll house cookies made especially for them. I started by giving them each a handfull of candy... I could see the look of disapointment on their faces, so I suddenly said, "Oh! I have something else for you two..." They made a beeline for the kitchen where they each got a bag of the cookies and had huge grins on their faces. Grandkids are fun! Mom got a big bag of the cookies for the rest of the family.
Have to go wrap my son's present and sign the card. Catch you all later!

The day started out bright and sunny - most unusual for Nov. 1st.! We usually have lots of rain on that day. October proved to be the warmest October since they started recording the weather - 150 years ago. The month was about 2°C warmer than the long range average, and had 25% less of that wet stuff coming down. I now slowly start to believe our climate is changing
I am in a strange mood today. I can´t really tell why, but I am not feeling well. My suspect is my new heart meds, accompanied by a lack of sleep. Due to that, I was not up to much today, other than playing with my train for a little while. I hope to get rid of that feeling latest by Friday next week, where I have plans to go to the Euromodell Train Fest in Bremen. It´s one of these modeling hobby shows, but this year with a focus on model railroading. Maybe I can find something I need for my new layout ...

The weather was great, the hotel (actually something like a holiday village) was OK, but the rest did not impress me much. Whatever there was in terms of culture, was not Turkish, but Ancient Greek ...

Well:
~We DOn't "DO" 'Hollerween', so no passing out candy here, besides we'd go broke as everybody and their brother drops their kids off in the park as "easy picken's" of about 200 homes in a small area!
~Which means I took the cat leash and tied it around the support and "arm" of the sliding porch door out front and that "locked it",and turned off the automatic outside light...
~But then we get astrange # from the local hospital health service pop up on the tv screen. I wasn't gonna answer it as it is usually the pharmacy recording for someone else....but MOH handed me the phone and said "answer it" It turned out to be My FAther! From the HOSPITAL!
~The bigger issue was his 1992 van quit working on the way there....he got it there, so he needed a ride home. He thinks maybe the fuel pump as he recently {but out of warrantee naturally} had it replaced.
~ SO he needed to go to the hospital for a bladder infection, which caused him great pain. The blood in the urine was microscopic, so he wouldn't know if he looked. and the CT scan ruled out kidney stones.
~That took 1.5-2 hours to go get him in one direction. stop at pharmacy near to the hospital to get his antibiotic, take him the other way home, and drive the 13 miles back to my house.
~ And watch for peoples along the way on the side roads...
~ he was worried they didn't give him anything for pain, so I said if he was still in pain today, I'd come get him today and take him to the walkin in his town, they'd have access to his electronic records from the hospital. He said he was much better pain wise when i called this morning, so no more emergency trips.
~So THAT was my hollerween. Way down yonder in holler, in the paw paw patch.
~Funny thing IS, I was having my father on BACKUP to take me to pick up MY an from the shop yesterday, and he wasn't able to do it! AND fortunately I didn't need him, he needed me. $404 for pass. half shaft replacement, radiator flush and 2 front wipers. Get 6 months no interest if paid off in 6 months. Will be done!
~Well, wiht a cold front moving in today, I naturally have what? A migraine trying to sabatoge my day. MOH jsut came home a bit ago and woke me out of strange dream....I took more pills to ward of fthe headache.

I recall Turkeyville near Marshall, MI.... It is a turkey farm which grew into a tourist trap... They sell fresh turkeys, and you can eat there with various kinds of turkey sandwiches and so on. .... Marshall, by the way, is the birth place of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers..... The town also has a German restaurant which attracts people from long distances.
I'm slowly getting over the cold, and so, it is time to work on the layout again ... Speaking of cold, the weather certainly cooled off. I heard Louisville had a bit of snow overnight last night. Tonight it is forecasted to be 28 degrees there. ..

It amazes me how many people underestimate the strength of a disabled person, especially those with leg issues. While many let themselves go some don't and build their upper body strength. Last night someone ticked me off and realized he'd made a serious mistake at exactely the same moment I snatched him off his feet and commenced sweeping the floor with his worthless carcass. Now nobody wants to makethis big Indian mad. I'm not THAT strong! I can only bench press twice my weight and change and snatch an average person off their feet with enough force to throw a good scare into them. It's not like I'm out to hurt anybody.

I just had a look at some forum statistics. Elliot´s Trackside Diner used to have an average of 600+ posts in the past years, now we are short of about 200 posts in recent months. Quite a number of folks don´t come here any longer, and some of the regulars post less. Time for a MIA role call?
I miss Barry, Chris, Jerry, Jim, DerJohn, Flip, Rob, Todd and those many others, who used to come in here for a chat in those 5 years since I joined. I know some have to battle health issues - let´s extend blessings to them.
Good to see Jeff on a regular basis. He seems to be in a kind of fighting mood, putting the nurses to the floor

I DO so hope it was your nephew you mopped the floor with. He would deserve it from what you tell us.
I am aware of how disabled people compensate for what they lack...especially those with no legs and incredibly immense upperbody strength.
I can't imagine what you would have done if that person had really made you mad, instead of just a little ticked off!
~Chilly, blustery, cold here now all of about 35F.. but Tuesday near 70?
~The furnace only ran a few times yesterday as I kept it down to save on fuel so as to not get to far behind the balanced utility budget. MOH of course wants to keep it high, but i can adapt. If its in the 50 out on the enclosed porch, it stays around 67-70F inside here. If it is in the 40s it will stay around 64-66F in here without much help from the furnace...Thats the way I like it.{NOT using the furnace burnign fuel I mean..I cna always put on another layer or a hevier layer to keep warm. That was what I did during the oil embargo as a teen in the 70s! We had Oil heat, I was first one up as a teen, and I was ALLOWED to turn it UP to 60F {from 58} when I got up. Then My father would turn it up to 62F when he got up, and MY mother got it to go to a whole 64 to warm up the house, then it got settled back to 62f for mother while the rest of us were off to school, work etc.. My mother always said "if you are cold, put on a sweater" {or socks or slippers or "wear your robe"..what ever was cold, "cover it up with another layer"}> SInce they "mismanaged" our budget payment {should have left it alone} We OWE them a hearty sum of money, adn I am going to have them increase over what they already want, which I think will be a short fall as we won't get much in the way of HEAP help this winter, as our income doubled from when MOH was hardly working.

Spent most of yesterday in Paris for Andy’s services went well. His wife held up ok, thanks to a pill. Sis said she was a basket case earlier. My mom, sister and Andy’s sis did lot better than I figured they would.
I can sure tell it’s getting close to x-mas, with the number of containers on the tracks out back. Also been seeing some different power, BNSF running 3 or 4 through with balken crude oil a week. A mixed power [KSC,BNSF n CSX] haulin wind turbine parts. The radioactive waste car. The number of KSC Schneider container up. Still got UP’s PRB coil drags runnin. Some days it’s hard to remember CSX owns this ROW with all the different trains.
Well [has a skiff of ice on top] I best get on ta chores, not much planned for the day, some cleanin n football. Thoughts n prayers for tose in need, n hope ya’ll has a gooden

Interesting ... I lived in Michigan most of my adult life. First location was Kalamazoo, and the next was Marshall (very briefly). Next job was in GTW RR HQ in Detroit, and we lived in Macomb County, Oakland County, and lastly Ann Arbor. .... Kelloggs was GTW's largest customer not in the automotive business. GTW's locomotive shops were in Battle Creek, and I was there numerous times. ... I retired early and we live in a nice location at Land Between the Lakes in KY.
I always liked model railroading, but it was challenging to build a layout because of many moves. I did model GTW in N Scale for a while. Following that I was building my 1900 erea layout, but it was dismantled to move. .... We moved in this house in 2001, and I have been building my CB&Q layout ever since. Growing up west of Chicago, I could watch CB&Q trains from our house. Modeling the Burlington brings back memories of railfanning when I was young.
