One of our so-called energy savings light bulbs exploded today, emitting a small cloud of mercury. I put a piece of cloth over my mouth and nose and collected the remains of it and took them outside into the "bin". I then bought replacement bulbs, but this time the LED type. They save even more energy than those "energy savers" and are supposed to have a much longer service life. And they even cost less!

For those interested, here are some vitals of my new loco´s prototype:

The loco is rated at 8,650 dbhp, which is about 40% more than a Big Boy had. Top speed is at 88mph for the freight version and 145mph for the passenger version. Due to its much lower mass, the tractive effort is about half of the big Boy´s figure, which weighed about 5 times more. One of the interesting features of this loco is its ability to run on various different systems, like the standard German, Austrian and Swiss system of 15kV, 16 2/3 Hz AC, the French and Italien 25kv, 50 Hz AC systems, as well as on 3kV or 1,5kV DC networks. The loco is also known as the "killer" of the Swiss loco industry, as the Swiss Federal Railway turned to Siemens for their new generation of locos, cancelling all orders with SLM in Winterthur. Subsequently, SLM was closed.

Railfanning has become a little boring, as this type has developed into the mainstay of electric traction in Europe!
