Good Morning!

The sunny weather seems to be over  October is saying goodbye with the usual dull and gray weather.

Today´s mail brought one mor of my purchases in The Bay - a pair of Minitrix turnouts. Again, the ad said "used", but they look brand new to me. Including shipping, the saving was 60%. As it looks, following german prototype is not as expensive as I thought it is.

We are pretty much done with this year´s Christmas shopping. Hard to belief, that Christmas is only 56 days ahead of us...

Ken - I am just glad I don´t have to rake leaves any longer. We had plenty of trees around our house, dumping tons of leaves onto our property. It took me 3 to 4 days to get rid of them all.

Have a happy one!

Dennis - nice work. Did you take any pictures of the work as it progressed ?

Galaxy - Well HELLO fellow Hillbilly ! I have several friends who worked for IBM, Ive Been Moved. Top rate folks ! Did you retire from IBM ?

Jeff - Prayers lifted up for you. Hope all is as well as expected ?

Garry - Do they think the murders are gang related ?

Finished the prod. meeting. Geez I hate those things.  A day and a half of prep for 2 hours. While the rest of the site gets turned to choas because I am prepping for a meeting. Sigh!! The site looks like an ant hill someone stuck a stick in and stirred. Men and equipment EVERYWHERE. Its exhausting just solving the problems. For instance my site guy thinks this is his sandbox and no one else should be allowed to play in "his" sandbox. So he tells a loaded dump truck with 20 tons of stone for the plumber to turn around and he canot deliver his stone in "his" sand box. So the plumber comes to me wanting to be paid for a $125 delivery charge Bang Head Bang Head Bang Head Oh my gosh I wish some people would JUST GROW up. I swear sometyimes it is like I am managing little kids. "He touched me ! No he touched me first !" that kind of stuff. Sigh Ooops sorry guys I will get off of my SoapBox. You know retirement is looking better all the time.

Prayers to all in need will TTYL

well,

Good morning i think? I say I think because I am having trouble with the 'net/modem/computer any/some/all of the above.

Apparently While I was out, and after MOH left, but before I came home, the power was out. I caught the cable box reset-rebooting when I walked in the door and the clocks were flashing {the non-battery ones}.

It has been a pain to do anything online...

TWC checking?

Later?

Well Now that I am online..I hope this posts as well..

Healing energies, thooughts

and prayers for those

who need them

~I'm back, they had to reset the modem again. its now about every 2 weeks they need to reset the modem. SHe argued wiht me as I said maybe its time to replace it? SHe said "it shows fine on our end it has to be your computer"..of COURSE they are going to say that....the computer people meanwhile say it is the modem. Maybe I go buy one. Have no clue what I am buying though...We are paying TWC enough for the modem. If TWC has to keep resetting it, what does that tell you? never mind.

~Didn't do a morning greeting as I was out the door early as I will be tomorrow too...so iff'en y'all miss me, that is why. Plus Lately MOH has been hogging the computer in the A of Ms.

~Today was "free bread day"...also came with a chocolate cake...yum. Its a small roudn one. to keep prices down they have gone from 11' roundy to 9" roundy to now a 7" roundy, they have "two server 5" roundy" ones,,, soon there won't be any cake left! Not at a price one can afford anyway.

YGW: MY FATHER worked for IBM...not me, I am not so tech savvy, and it shows!. IBM Tranferred HIM to NY, though he was hired in IL. and was living in MI at the time. My mother's roots are in KY, though moving to MI was a great wise decision they made. My fathr rented an appartment from my G-ma in MI, and met my mother, and soon proposed. If you can't figure it out now, lets just say its a complicated mess, then. "I've Been Moved' is an old moniker, and since My father got moved out here, it fits. Fortuantely it was a gov't contract location and so my father had a steady job the whole of his career there. My FIL worked for another high tech company locally here and they called IBMers "Itty Bitty Minds" people. IBMers never liked that one! Neither is "Fix or REpair Daily" for Ford people....

~Haven't seen Jeffrey in,,, he was supposed to be moved {talk about "I've been moved"} to another facility. Wonder how that is going? WIsh he'd check in and tell us the latest in the fine cuisine the recouperation ceneter is serving!

~ well, I have accomplished  the shopping and got some new weather proofing stuff, so maybe I should get at doing that installation. Nwo to find the hair dryer...The lady at check out asked how they worked..the window plastic insulation stuff. I said great, helps a lot,,, she asked if you really do use a hairdryer on it, I siad yes, but even if not, they work better'n not having them! wonder if she will buy them?

~got weather stripping for the door too, as the old stuff turned brittle and broke off its stickyness. should instgall those now.

~ several packages on the way I see...good! About 6 or so  of them..will be like Xmas when they get here! That is not quite all I ordered...some clearance stuff may not get here atall if spoken for before I got them. we shall see.

Galaxy - a couple of weeks ago, I had the same problem. I just could not get access to the Internet. A call to my provider resulted in the stereotype answer "The line is OK, it must be either your WiFi router or your computer", which, in fact, wasn´t true at all. I walked over to their service shop and got a new DSL modem and a splitter - free of charge. I wired them up, but still no access. This time it was my WiFi router - I had reset it and while configuring it, I used a wrong password. Took me two days to find that one out Embarrassed

I am still making changes to my plan - no big things, just shortening the layout down to about 6´, so I can use the hollow core door I have. Saves on money and speeds up benchwork construction considerably. I just made a drawing to see whether this will work out and there is hardly any effect on the overall appearance of the layout.

I hope Jeff is doing OK today!

Ulrich...hte modem IS hardwired nad has NO password. On a side note, they called here, thinking they had someone else they just serviced yesterday, who said to me MAYBE the problem is NYSEG..and the electric supply, as if it 'back surges' it will shut down the modem, or Maybe a ground fault somewhere. Well, guess when they replaced the feeder lines to our meters and the modem first started acting up? Whistling

~ got laundry going, then have to tackle taht ohter never ending chore..the dishes...and I have to put away pantry stuff, after i get it organized so I can FIND my counter top. we have about 18" of counter top betwixt the stove and sink, and it is all covered right now.

~MOH speaks of getting burn out from work. Working with Special needs people is a hard job, and wears on the brain after awhile. Can't afford to quit though. Wants to take an expensive vaca next summer,, with what money I don't know.

~ I may have to drive to my father's to find out if he is alive. He isn't answering the phone, and rarely does these days. He says "someone always wantin' to sell me somethin' all the time". I've tried all week. Maybe an email he will respond to.

Next time You have a power surge/power outage. Unplug/replug power to router, after waiting a few seconds. Resets the signal, after being scrambled. If you have to continually do that, your router is going south. Same thing you would do on a cable TV, router, tells you that in the instructions.

Hi Frank with the stripes!

Did that FIRST, before I even called them! Always do. Unplug wait.try again. Reset button, wiat again. Wait a half hour, try again. Rinse and repeat.

Dunno.

They did {the park that is} had some hanky-panky outfit put in new elec. supply lines from the pole to the meters panel {5 meters per panel} and new wood for the panel as the old wiring WAS shot and the wires were bare...the code enforcement office AFTER we complained IN person twice, fined them {The park} for the violation, after the park refused to voluntarily do it, SO,maybe TWC is right-besides the power outage the lines may be fouled up.

I DO know a friend who had a home business i once worked for nearby had either the cable company, the conputer repair comnpany or even NYSEG tiself test the lines nad foudn the "static on hte lines was the worst ever seen"..whatever THAT means and how it relates to the computer.

Could ALSO be the modem is going bad. COULD be as simple as that too.

~Got that STRANGE call from TWC who ARGUED with em that "he was just out to your place yesterday"...I said 3 times "NO, you weren't"{no body was out here any tiem recently}. He said "I ASSURE  you I was out there with Ken yesterday"...I repeat tha "neither you nro anyone else was here yeasterday"...he had 33 Laurel Ave confused with 33 Jody drive in two different towns.
So much for the customer "always being right".

Ah well, maybe it the modem, maybe its the electric lines, maybe its the computer. maybe its mice in the walls. maybe its moon spots.

Amazing thatt in days of old VERY COMPLICATED things could be made mechanical that did amazing things and WORKED RIGHTwith thousands of moving parts, and yet modern tech can't function right half the time...Whistling

Mint tea, please.

Good to hear Jeffrey is healing.

Figured I had better get in here before the Diner is moved to a new location.

My daily/nightly train fix right now is hearing the distant freight trains that periodically run through the not too distant town of Fairmount.

Healing thoughts to those in need.

Cheers! Cowboy Rob

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, Beer Please.

Work was busy today? I was surprised, and in a good way. Sold a lot of lower end stuff but a sale is a sale. Did make a little extra is spiff money, guessing about $15.00 or less.

Health Front Last Thursday I mention here at the dinner I had a small pain in my left shoulder / neck area. It comes and goes but it is there now more than ever. Had awfull night last night. Woke up around midnight and could not fall back a sleep because of the discomfort. On a scale 1 too 10 I would rate it only around a 3 but it kept me from falling back to sleep. Finally got up and played on the internet till 3:00 AM and still had a hard time getting back asleep.

Looks like I am going to spend another day off at the VA. Need to have them look at the shoulder before it becomes worse. Never used the walk in clinic so I have no idea how long I will be there?

Inch Funny in away how no units in the Military can get along unless someone is shooting at them! Laugh

Ulrich Will the layout have any grades in it? While, a layout on a door! Makes me want to buy a N Scale starter set to play around with! I had a N Sacle set when I was around 12 or so, it was junk and dad took it back and got me into HO slot cars.

Missing Jeffery Up Dates. Hope it just no time or no Wi Fi that is keeping him out of touch.

 See you all Thursday.

Galaxy,

It very well could be the Modem. That's at the pole and a lot of cable guy's will give you the brush off, saying it isn't, cause they  are just too lazy to go up there and check. Had three guy's come out to fix my neighbors cable never once climbed the pole and He constantly had issues. He has AT&T cable, so I always had to call for Him, cause His phone would not work. Finally had one guy come out and I asked Him why does the cable from the pole rubbing on the roof of His garage? He got his ladder went back there and found the cable connection broken and had intermittant contact, once replaced, problem stopped, but took six months of BS. to get someone to get up there. Sad but true.

Have A Good One! Big Smile

Good Morning!

I did not catch much sleep last night, so I am feeling freight-trained this morning. Need to get going soon, as I have an appointment to get the tires changed. Seems to be just in time, as the nights are gong to be just a notch above freezing from now on. Winter will be harsh one this year, as all the geese have gone south a lot earlier this year.

Ken - there are no grades in that layout, but the track will be elevated. I will glue risers to the door, using hot glue, to which a fasten the track bed. Pictures will come!

Make it a happy day!

Phew!!!  Uh!!!

Finally breathing again (metaphorically speaking). In light of the job issues I ranted about last week.

Since mid August I've been feeling as though I've been in a nightmarish sort of limbo. Couldn't get anything from anyone in command or charge at work to tell me if I was to have a job in the new facility in Reno (the one I'm currently in is being shut down during the early months of next year). I am moderately disabled and have work accommodations...not to mention being 53.

I found out tonight that I do have a job in the new building. Good news. And it is in writing. I will be required to become a PIT operator which doesn't fly well with me at all, I detest driving a car...but like driving a car, I'll do it by necessity (to keep the job). Now I got to figure out doing a 130-140 mile per day commute. I dread the search for a new-used car.

None the less...I fully intend to pursue vocational rehab via the state to retrain to do something much less physical than the type of things I've been doing the last 35 years. At present, between living with the aftermath of radical cancer surgery and subsequent radiation treatments in 2010 and moderate arthritis from the waist down, lower back especially...my days of physical work are numbered.

So the railroad will go on...well at least for now.

Take care all

GOOD THURSDAY MORNING!

October 30th, 2014!

Healing energies, thoughts and

prayers for those in need.

The candles are lit for the day!

~Have PT today. Manipulate/massage my shoulder. Then to the CU to move some money around.

~Ken: Could it be possible that you, too, have shoulder impingement from calicum deposits in your shoulder tendons?{Calcific Tendonitis} Mine came on suddenly, but has lasted/gotten worse. An Xray will show it easily enough. It won't "go away" by itself. SO yeah, have it checked out, as it is no fun, I tell ya!

~Jeffrey: I, too, hope he just doesn't have any wifi service, but I DO wish someone would let us know! Miss him!

~I finally got some sleep last night,..been waiting long enough...Now watch me go insomniac again whne we turn the clocks back.

~ FOR those who missed it and DO CHANGE, THE CLOCKS TURN BACK ONE HOUR ON SATURDAY NIGHT!!! REMINDER!

~ SHOULD have 2, count em. 2 packages coming UPS today!

Mark, Congrats on keeping the job!

I was going to ask last week if you "felt better after your rant", but decided to leave it alone in case it did not work out for you. And a rant doesn't replace a good job.

It actaully behooves employers to keep their "minority workers" {such as those who are handicapped-even with accomodations} on their pay rolls, so they comply with state and Federal laws about such things. Unfortunately,as bad as that sounds, that can be a good thing for those like you {or such other minorities}.

Plus, If you are a conscious worker who is reliable, albeit a minority, that helps your situation.

And you are right, trying to start over at that age, with accomodations needed to work, might be hard to find a job, its hard enough for an "able-bodied person of age" to find a job these days.

Now, just get yourself into the driving mode, or seek out a moving situation if you can affrod it. {I wouldn't want to drive 135 miles a day either, especially if there is a bit of traffic to deal with either way!}

Good Luck as you pursue your "new career" at your "old job"!!

Guys If Jeff made the transfer to the Rosepine center I called there and they have no wi-fi or even phones in the rooms for patients He would have to order his own cable connection in order to get it so unless another patient has cable and lets him use it we have no communication with him

Good Afternoon!

It is such a dull and gray day, we had to swith the lights on by 2pm!

Mike - thanks for letting us know that the facility Jeff is staying in has no WiFi connections available. I hope he will be able to overcome this obstacle!

This afternoon, I finally went up into the attic and got that HCD, which has been collecting dust and cobwebs for over 4 years now. Mounting it onto the shelf brackets took less than 10 minutes, including cleaning up. It´s a start, but now I have to build up tha various levels I need for the scenery and track. I hope my friend Lothar has the time on Saturday to go to our home improvement place with me, so I can pick up a 2´by 6´sheet of plywood. It just won´t fit into my car.

I spent two hours at the garage this morning, waiting to get the tires exchanged. The car is now all set for the upcoming winter season. While waiting, I had a look at one of Volkswagen EVO cars, which is supposedly getting 262 mpg. If that´s the future of cars, I´ll be getting a bike and quit driving!

Well!  So much for getting my virtual, no calorie breakfast in the diner this morning...  had a nice long post all set to go and when I pushed send, it told me the place couldn't be found....  I tried a couple other folders I have up all the time and got the same thig.  Looked at the modem and it was off.  Tried to reset the modem and nothing happened.  The light above the compter and all my other equipment was working????  Then I checked the back up battery...  Yep, it was on battery power and the electric was out.  Power was off for about 45 minutes.

Mike, thanks for the heads up about Jeffrey!  Hopefully he will be out of there and over to his Father's House sooner ratyher than later.  If you talk to him agian, please give him our best wishes from here in the Diner.

Have several days of stuff to get done today!  I will be multitasking for the next several hours....

Catch you all later!

~after all of that over the internet connection yesterday, GUESS who had at least a 4 hour {out of 6} "outage in your area" today/this morning? TIME WARNER CABLE!!! SO...maybe they found something they had to fix? Besides my modem of my pole connection?Whistling

~on Jeffrey, I figured he would not have access to the 'net.

~Have one package on the truck at UPS, was hoping both would make it after address corrections yesterday, but it looks like only one is out for delivery today. I DON'T knwo WHY these company allow you to enter 4 lines of address, but only take parts of line 3 and squish it onto line three which reads incorrect.

~have some packages in the USPS mail too, but no known tracking number, hate that! If your going to ship it, ship it with a tracking number,,,,GRRR.

~Have some packages from Amazon coming too, but again, no tracking, which is odd! I realize I have the cheapest option, and places like amazon want you to pay for extra services to get extra special service, but really...Shipping from Amazon is "in transit" with FedEx smart post...which means at least it WILL get here.At least USPS know we are here. Expected delivery: next thursday. whcih means it will probably arrive Wed. boy they like to use their 8 days!

~ the US mail SHOULD {and usually} gets slow and late this time of year, now that may happen next month {starting Sat} as then people will like to shop for Xmas,,,if they are even spending this year, but hasn't happened yet! She is actually EARLY now. That doesnt' speak well to the catalog delvery category, though I have gotten two odd ones.

~ well, catch ya later.

It was out here an hour yesterday, RAY..think the Spaniards are trying to tell us something?

Its to bad you cant' run off your panels during blackouts...

Andy’s has 2 kids Priya, who be 2, the day after his funeral. She’s to young to understand whats going on and just hangs on mommy. Kurtis, 21, is in collage and also in the IL Army NG. His wife, Brandy, seems to be doing ok and sounded almost relieved. The last couple weeks been hell on her.

Inch - 40 is certainly not the age to go. Our thoughts and prayers go to those he left behind.

YGW,

That is a LeTourneau Intermodal Side Loader at the N&W Rail yard in Chgo. I knew the operator very well and He let me take the pic., while He was loading a 20ft can on my chassis. The truck is a 1973 Diamond Reo, a true classic restored by me and some of my friends. The pic is from 1983, when I first started out owning my own trucks. I was leased to Galaxy Transport at the time. Great city tractor. Loud with straight pipes with the Detroit 671 cu in blown diesel engine. Same blower cars used at the drag strip.

BTW: You're the first to ask, about the pic.

Take Care! Big Smile

Frank
