There is a show called "A Taste OF History" On RLTV where a chef cooks as they did in the 1700-1800's in a large open fireplace with a side oven, by using "spider pans", dutch ovens, hanging pots wood colas and the like. The AMount of freshly churned butter he uses in cooking would give a heart surgeon today a heart attack himself just watching!

Now a days a "Dutch Oven" has a totaly different meaning.....  ClownBlack EyeWilted FlowerDead

GOOD SATURDAY MORNING!

October 18th, 2014!

~This month is sure speeding by quickly, already past halfway mark!

~Jeffrey sent you a PM {again}.

~FIL home after scare. We go up to the Nat'l cemetery to visit MIL. Today is the anniversary of when she was buried. We pick up flowers at 8:30 and on the road at 9 for the 1.5 trip up. We will probably stop at a diner along the way for brunch.

~! My aunt called all up in arms over not hearing from my father for over a  month. I just was emailing him and he responded day before yesterday, so he is all right, he's just a stubborn old coot like my FIL who won't answer the phone before 10 am, or after 6pm, or if he is not sitting bythe phone. SO even I have trouble getting him. I will see him the 23rd, but he won't: get caller ID so he knows which calls to take; Won't use an answering machine to screen his calls; won't answert unless sitting next to the phone; if he doesn't hear a voice right away, he hangs up; doesn't like  the ad naseum phone calls form my brother's creditors looking for him as next of kin; So in short, he can't always be reached by phone! Grr.

~ anyway, best get my day started

Today's quotes:

Health is the greatest gift, contentment the greatest wealth, faithfulness the best relationship.

Change your thoughts and you change your world.

As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.

We can't help everyone, but everyone can help someone.

~Anyone who *wants* to help out Jeffrey, Please PM/start conversation with me! He's a tough old coot, but will need some help with things and stuff and stuff and things.

GO ahead!

MAKe it a great day!

Morning everyone,

Its cool and somewhat cloudy out today.

Ray: My wife also battled Leukemia back in 2003, she underwent almost 4 years of chemo treatments. Her type was ALL.

One thing I have noticed I enjoy listening too lately is music from the 30's,40's and 50's. We have a digital cable station that is called swingin standrads and thats all it plays. I put it on when Im downstairs working on the railroad or playing my strat games. Its kind of neat when Im playing a baseball season from the 50's and there is music on from the 50s. I was born in 1981 so dont know what living in the 50's was like, but It gives a sense of travelling back in time.

Jeremy, I love those old sounds, too.  Our cable system has a gazillion music stations, but not one of them really concentrates on that era.  I get some of what I want on a couple of their jazz stations, but mostly I settle on the Golden Oldies channel which plays that old time rock and roll.  I figure that's appropriate when I'm running my Transition Era equipment, and, since I'm usually alone in the train room, no one minds if I sing along.

Happy weekend to all.  I did the first pour of Envirotex in the river channel of my liftoff section last night.  It's set up pretty well now, but I'll wait until later in the day for the second pour.  I'm about to head out to my LHS for more track and rail joiners to finish up the staging yard, LEDs for the control panel and some toggles to shut down the staging tracks and quiet the locomotives.

It's a bit chilly right now, but this could be one of the last really nice days for a bike ride this season, so I hope to get one in.

Good Evening!

I spent the last two days trying to get my Internet connection up and running again, after it died on us Thursday afternoon. For whatever reason, I got it running a few moments ago - big Sigh of relief!

I used much of the computer free time to play with my new train set (I still call it a train set, because that´s what it is. It has to be developed into a layout yet). I enjoyed that very much!

Ken - N scale is standardized, so everything fits together nicely. The only difference there is is couplers- the US has those Kadee-type knuckle couplers, whereas Europe and Japan still use the Rapido-type coupler. I might change to Dapol knuckle couplers, just becaus of the looks. It´s just a plug-in conversion, so converting is no big deal.

The loco is now run in and runs like a jewel - the best performing locoi I ever had!

Continuing Angel for Jeff!

Johnboy - a little package has arrived from Canada!

Make it a great weekend!

Well

~went to the cemetery without the FIL. We suggested he stay HOME, where, if he needed anything a LOCAL hospital would be available. He had just been up there anyway as he was confused on what day MIL was interred. She passed on Monday the 14th, the Obit was Wed the 16 and she was burried Fri the 18th of October last year. Simple, to be sure, I dug out the obit and looked. MY FIL had it all wrong. He placed two containers of Mums there, which MOH was not amused with, but it was the thought that counted.

~Stopped by my father's to tell him to call my aunt from my mother's side. SHe was all upset last night as she hadn't gotten a hold of my father in over a month and so called me to be sure he was still amongst the living. I wasn't surprised she called, though the last time she called me was over my mother's funeral over a decade ago. I wasn't surprised she called as she appeared in two different dreams I had the night before last night, punctuated in the middle by a trip to The Little Room at the end of the hall. SInce she appeared, she called. Premonition I call it. I also get visited by my mother, grandmother aunt and great aunt when they are "in form the other side", though they will not telephone, their visit IS their "calling"..

~Got the vows printed up for the wedding MOH will perform Monday. I printed on nice background paper the whole ceremony on 5 pages, added a title page and a signature/guest page for the 10 guests who will attend. It is in sheet protectors and in a loose leaf binder. SImple, but oh so complicated to get it to look the way I wanted on the background paper! I will have MOH review it soas to make sure I got all mistakes corrected and left none.

~Dinner will be leftovers for me as we stoped at Bob Evans in Painted Post. I had the country fried steak breakfast. Scrambled eggs, biscuits with apple butter {hard to find here anymore and younger folks don't know what "apple butter" is}, homefries and coffee. They were BUSY BUSY. TOok 30 mintues to get our breakfasts.

~ well off to eat the rest of the leftovers and wait for Suze Orman to come on CNBC to tell us what we are doing wrong with what little money we have, and what we COULD do IF we had any to do anything with! Maybe at 7Pm they will run their series of shows on how the rich people play....Must be nice to need a 1 car garage for the storing of the REGULAR use cars. Of course, half of them I can't get into and  the other half I can't get out of! Trucks, vans, Thats my style.Though a nice well placed Rolls woudln't be bad, they are just not very big cars.

Well, have a Great restfull night

Jeffrey Hope you are rested and out of pain{?} Dinner is a mystery or is it "mystery meat"??

Aaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!  Long day on train! Four sold out trips.  Little place for those of us working on train to ever get a seat, so I basically stood on my feet from 9:30 AM to 6PM....  The old body isn't used to that anymore.  Was a great day though.  The questionaire that we gave out to passengers at the end of each trip was coming back with 9 or 10 out of 10 for each catagory, so I would say the passengers had a great time.  This was well organized and well done all the way through.

The LA&L had 3 of their century Alcos on the train.  I asked the Conductor from the LA&L if he thought they had enough motive power to pull the 4 old passengert cars (3 coaches and 1 baggage).  He laughed as told me they decided to add the extra loco due to one grade that might be leaf covered.  They were worried about slipping there.  They did actually stop the train for a short time on the third trip half way up the track...  We all looked at each other and said, "Oh, this is not good!"  The car host from the LA&L radioed the conductor to find out what was going on....  there was a stray dog on the tracks!  We were shortly back on speed to the Museum.

I will be working train crew again tomorrow at the museum.  We are one person short of a full crew at this point.  Hopefully someone will show up to be car host in the PC caboose.  That is the only place where we can have a non-rules class certified perso0n working crew.  That person doesn't need to have radio training and doesn't use one.

Galaxy, Your father is an intelegent man!  I only answer about one in 25 calls here.  The rest I don't generally want to talk to so I don't!  That even includes some family.....  Smile, Wink & Grin

Jeremy, My wife had ALL also....  Sigh

Supper is about ready.  Leftovers.......

Catch you all later!

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, Beer Please.

Worked In The St Charles Store Today. Nancy (Owers Wife) just does not think about what she is saying! I have stated here before I am losing weight, in the last 3 months I have lost 15 pounds. Now, with as large as I am, that is a drop in the bucket. It is like taking the car battery out of your car and saying it weights less!

Nancy asked me how I was doing today and I told her "I have lost 15 pounds so far". (She knows I am lossing weight) What did she say? "You don't look like you lost any weight!" Gee Thanks Nancy! Hmm OK, I don't look a lot slimer, but she sure could have say something driffernt. Puts her mouth in gear before her brain.

Funny With Tickets Nancy Writes! On three tickets today all she wrote was "Mattress, White Headboard and Cover ". Makes for a fun day when I have to correct her tickets!

 Late, Ken

Good Morning!

It really feels good to be back in business with a) my train set and b) the Internet. Being off-line for two days was some experience. It showed me how much we depend on the Internet in our every day life and how much we got used to it. While I enjoyed the extra "free" time, Petra felt quite uneasy not being able to communicate with her friends.

I had to clear the dining table yesterday, so my train is now resting in its box - but only until after lunch. My friend Lothar will drop by this afternoon for some train talk. This morning, I will do some more detailing of my layout plans.

Ken - what Nancy said was certainly not really motivating, if not rude, but she is right. Men tend to carry their weight up front, i.e. the beer belly, but when they start to reduce, the weight loss takes place on the behind ... Guess how I now that! I am also trying to get my weight down, just by reducing my daily fare a touch. It´s a slow process and sometimes there is no progress at all, but I have been told that a slow reduction is better than a quick one. Your body gets used to a lower food intake and the risk of raising it again is lower than with a more radical diet.

Jeff - I am glad to hear your spirit is up and that you seem to be on the mend! Continuing Angel for your improvement!

Have a great Sunday!

I had to check the time-tag on your post to tell if "Dinner is still a mystery" meant that they hadn't told you what was on the menu yet, or you couldn't figure out what was on your plate when it showed up.  Hospital food can be like that.

For that spirit, you are my hero!

There were times recently, when I was really in the doldrums, for health and all other reasons you folks know quite well. In those times, my thoughts often wandered to you, Jeff, and what a load you have to carry - made my own woes look so small.

I know they won´t get you! Carry on!

Afternoon guys

A sunny but very cool day out today. I did a couple loads of laundry this morning and seperated some of my new strat sets. Not much planned this afternoon aside from watching the packers game. I am going to my parents later on for dinner, dont know what they are having though.

Well off to the sofa to watch some football

I walked in the hot sun with my brother's dog stretch to go get cigarettes for dad. If he drove himself it would taken him 10 minutes not 1 hour and 5, normally a 40/45 minute walk.

A few days ago I got a letter that I am disabled and they will help me find a job. I'm not to excited or to hopeful since it took the other lady 7 months to put my paper work together and everything.

Talk to guys later, hopefully not too long.

No I am not done.. I build one.. almost finish.. start on another.  I should be done with all 3 by tomorrow. lol
