Jeffrey! Congrats on the 15 feet...where is this Rosepine, of which you speak? closer to home or further away? SOunds like the title for a Stephen King spooky novel...where guests check in, but don't check out! What type of facility is it?

Now, see, that dinner, to me anyway, sounded very palatable! Depends on if the chix was dried out or not.

Keep striving to reach the gold at the end of each walk, and you will surely win!

Keep up the good work!

Geeked

Rosepine is about halfway between Leesville and DeRidder. The facility is a nursing home and extended care facility. The chicken I spoke of was so dry it was extremely tough and hard to chew.

Good Morning!

Another gray and drab, but busy day. We will behaving guest for dinner and Petra and I are really looking forward to this. We do not have many social contacts these days.

Jeff - congrats on the 15 ft. achievement - a big step forward! Btw, we call those bone dry chicken meat "Gummi-Adler", which translates into rubber eagle... Smile, Wink & Grin Is this going to be a permanent at the Rosepine facility? If so, I hope your room will be big enough to accomodate your hobbies as well!

I decided against setting up a temporary layout and invest the money in starting to build the permanent one. Made some changes so i can use most of the track and turnouts supplied with the starter set. None of those horrid switches with their surface mounted switch motors will be visible, so the visual impact is not as bad as I originally thought. After painting, ballasting and weathering, the track will look OK, even if it is code 80 track instead of the much nicer looking Peco code 55 track. This move saves a lot of money and time!

Here is the adapted plan:

The main line is now a single track line, but that won´t change operation only very little, as I will be controlling one train at a time. I hope to be able to start construction this year and have a train running by Christmas...

Mark H - not really a promising outlook, jobwise! If moving back to PA is your dream, make it happen! You know, there are only two kind of lives one can have - a life of chance used and a life of chances missed!

Galaxy - there is a PM for you!

Make it a happy day!

Good morning.

Jeff .... I'm impressed with your prgress. 15' is remarkable.

Mark H ... Sorry to learn about the work problems. Is that a foreign owned company. I ask because my wife once worked for a US located plant owned by European company, and they were jerks. ... Return to PA if you can. I know its hard to get a good job anywhere these days. ... Of course yoiu always have friends in the Diner.

I posted my new pumpkin patch in the WPF thread. Here is another shot of it.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a short stack of buttermilk Pancakes with Maple Syrup (NYS if possible), A couple sausage links, and a couple over easy eggs on the side.  To finish it off I need several cups of Seneca Lake Blend dark roast coffee...  Huh?  No one cup and keep it filled for me....  Sheesh!

 Galaxy, sent you a reply....

Garry, very nice scene!  Where did you get the pumpkins?

Sun is out in force here in the Finger Lakes Region of NYS today.  May actually make a few kWhs today (I hope).  Yesterday was better than two days ago, but I should make more this morning than I did yesterday.

Have a lot of stuff to get done today.  keep thinking of thisng I need to have for the Fall Meet tomorrow...  Best get myself to w*rk.  Later!

Good Afternoon!

Our guest will arrive in a couple of hours and Petra is busy in the kitchen ... There is awful nice smell coming from that room Dinner We´ll be having French onion cake, young wine  and "Apfelgrütze" for desert - yummy. It´s a frugal meal, but typical for the season.

I placed my first bid on "The Bay" today - two pairs of Minitrix turnouts. If my bid is OK, I´ll be getting for used, but still good turnouts for the price of 1 new one. What I then need to complete the layout (in terms of track) is just 1 Peco code 80 medium turnout, and about 10 lengths of flex track, plus rail joiners and two more turnout motors.

Let´s see, how things turn out with that bid.

I was surprized to see how much used, but still good stuff is available on "The Bay" - new and hard to get items for about hald the regular price - suits me fine with my meagre budget.

Ray .. Thanks for commenting. The pumpkins include vines (hard to see in my scene because of weeds). They are made by JTT which according to the package is part of MRC. .... My SIL gave them to me while were were in MI last weekend. She said she got them at the clearance shelf at Hobby Lobby.

Ulrich .... I have purchased many used turnouts in good working condition at reasonable prices as you are doing.

Excellent gumbo today. I had two plates. Made twenty feet on the walker today. Also lifted eighty pounds for seven minutes on the weight machine. Chair exercise, I did thirty wheelchair push-ups.

Jeff - Thumbs Up for the progress you are making!

We spent a really enjoyable evening with our guests. Petra´s food was just Thumbs UpThumbs UpThumbs UpYeah and gave us a "solid foundation" for a few glasses of excellent white wine. Sorry, Ray, no Finger lakes wines available here! Our guests were my former comrade in arms of last year´s political quest and his Welsh wife, so our conversation was a hilarious mix of English and German. My tummy still hurts from laughing.

Heading to bed now - have a good night!

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, Beer Pleases

Jeffery Great to hear you are making progress!

Galaxy I can see how it could be taken the wrong way. If you had been there, you would have felt the sameway I did! There is correcting a empyoess mistake, and then there being a Jerk. Today he was in jurk mode.

Far as not bring up the missing comission, boy I wanted to! There was a couple of good reasons no to. First, I understand he is human and humans make mistakes. He was very busy Monday clearing up the aftermath of Sunday. Plus, all I would have done is making him mad, not what I needed. I all so did not need the extra money this week, all of the bills are paid this month.

Ulrich Glad to hear you had a good dinner party!

 Later, Ken

Jeff .. Glad you had a good dinner and it is good to hear about your progress. I bet you are doing better than others in your situation.

Galaxy and Ken ... Good to see you here in the diner.

today was tree cutting day here. We had two tall trees that needed to come down, and we had neighbors wanting firewood who had the equipment to do the work.

Evening everyone, I'll take a egg, bacon, and cheese on a croissant.

After about 2-years of thinking I am done with the hobby, and after selling off all of my train models back when, the train bug hath bitten again, and bitten hard. So I must respond to that! I've been interested in the Pennsylvania railroad post WWII lately, as I've always liked Don Ball's book Pennsylvania Railroad 1940s-1950s, and have had at one time or another numerous PRR models. Sadly, don't have them anymore, but it's not like reaquiring them will be difficult. I'm looking forward to getting back into the hobby! It'll be gradual and overtime, as I'm going back to school this spring to study Occupational Therapy.

Regards,

Alvie

Hi Ken!

I still think you should have muttered under your breath. I would have. Even if only a "gee another week without spiff pay".

Why?

I KNOW he is human, but this is BY FAR NOT the first time you have kevetched in this here diner about NOT getting your "SPiff" money! SO, while human, it is apparent that he does this to you often! THAT is why I would have muttered under my breath...

And as far as "clenaing up after Sunday"...as owner, that is his job, apparently by CHOICE since he owns the business....

I know this day in age one must be careful to not lose  a job, but if an employer is illegallly NOT paying you, you owe it to *yourself* to report it. Indentured servitude is Not allowed,{LOL}, though most emplyers think they can...

WHat will you say when you lose your house over not getting your proper pay? You came very close once already...

I'd Think about it.. .

Good Evening!

It´s been a slow day here. The weather wqs rather dull, more like November already. I spent some time with my friend Lothar, discussing his plans for a new layout. His youngest son moved out a few weeks ago, and my friend is now preparing his son´s room for a layout. Basically, it will be an around the walls, shelf-type layout, depicting northern German landscape with a harbor scene, a lighthouse and all the works necessary to capture this atmosphere. The track plan is still in the making - guess by whom?

I won 1 bid for a pair of turnouts including motors, and I lost one. I need one more pair, a set of clip-on turnout motors, 1 Peco turnout and a few lengths of flex track to have all the track I need for my layout. It´ll take a few days to source all that at "The Bay", but the saving vs. buying new is tremendous. That pair of turnouts cost less than a single manual Minitrix turnout! Next week, I will start on the benchwork. It´ll be the old fashioned open-grid type for ease of construction. I think I will have the basic layout up and running in time for the holidays!

Alvie - congrats on the decision to come back to the world of model railroading. You know, once you are infested, you are hooked for a lifetime!

Time to go to bed - CU tomorrow!

Consider it done, and done.

I have a general candle for all those in need, and now have a special one...dedicated, not just to those young men, but for ALL who fight/deal/have/may have Ebola! It is a disease who does not know how to discriminate for race, color, creed, religion, country of origin, male/female, wealth, status, caste,or any other "statistic" out there! It is now in my state, so anyone who passes through here, I or calls this state "home", could be exposed!

MAKE IT a GReat day! You may never know when it is your last.

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, a Beer please!

What a nice day we had today! So it was not surprising today was sloooow. Well till it was 15 minutes from closing that is! Bang Head Got out a tad late but not by much. Made a few sales and one with a good spiff! At one point he asked me"Do you give discounts too X Military?" My reply was "I am also a Vet, will you pay more"? Got a chuckel out of him and we started talking about our militay careers.

Galaxy Paul is not the owner, he is the GM. He would have nothing to gain by not paying the spiffs. If I had told him I need the funds he would advaced any of us the missing pay.

Have a odd pain in the left shoulder. It started around 2:00 PM Thursday at work. Only thing I lifted was a box of books that I am guessing weighted around 30 pounds. Pain went away Thursday night after a few beers. It was back Friday and was gone again. This morning it was back again before work? Took some pills my wife gave me and it was not as bad. Pain got worse while at work. Took some more pills and it did not hurt as badly. Found if I rested the arm up hight it was all most not there.

 See you all Sunday, Ken

Evenin' folks!

Janie, a cup of hot decaf would suit me fine right about now...  Thank you Ma'am!

Been a long but enjoyable day...  The Division Meet went very well.  Two excellent clinics, and a short histroy of the Model Railroad at Edgerton in Rochester, NY.  The Division Elections took less than two minutes start to finish.  Guess who got raliroaded once again to be the Suoerintendent of the Division...?  Actually all the officers are staying in the same jobs, which is really a good thing since we are putting on the Region Convention next year.  With information about the convention and some other business we only ran an hour late...  Nobody complained and several said this was one of the best meets we have put on!  By the time made the rounds of the Layouts open in the afternoon, got home and unloaded the car I was ready to sit and relax for a few minutes before heading down the layout to finish up a few things on the dairy before taking a few photos.  I just posted 3 in the WPF thread.

Inch, I will keep your grandson in my prayers as well.  Heck, I keep all of people being put in harm's way in my prayers!

I will be working train crew tomorrow.  Last day of operations for the season.  Hope it is a safe day and a fun day for all!

Have a great night!

Good Morning,

Well it is a balmy 40F here heading for 55!! That is well above normal for this time of year. In fact we have had a very mild October so far with temps often in the low '60s.

Not sure why the font is so large but I can't see how to get it small again.

I haven't been in for a few weeks as I don't have much to report. We have been doing a fair bit of gardening as it is a good time to plant shrubs. We had a paving stone pad laid and then had to put down some sod which is a very tiring job.

Nothing new on the RR front. I still haven't made it down to visit my friend and pick up the new DCC system so the HO layout has been dormant for 4 months.

It has now been a year since I retired and I found that the time just continues to fly. I guess life is like a roll of toilet paper-- the closer to the end it gets the faster it goes around.

I haven't seen Dennis from Alberta in here for some time, I hope he is ok.

Well time to get back outside and finish up on the sod before the TV marathon starts since it is Sunday.

Oh I'm kind of checking in now and again. Not much rail roady stuff going on for quite some time however winter is just around the bend here so I suspect that I'll eventually get in the mood. I did do some background painting yesterday but I'm really unhappy about the way it turned out so today I'm going to paint over it with the sky blue I used and forget background for now. Lord knows I've enough other stuff to do on the layout. Actually I'm thinking of tearing it down ... don't know. Just not much intrested anymore.

My good wife keeps telling me I need to keep it just to have something to do other than photography.  I think she may be right

Cheers

Good Evening Folks!

Today was a really slow day. We set our clocks back one hour last night and I am still not adjusted to the "new" time. The older I get, the more difficulties I seem to have with adjusting my biological inner clock to the time change.

There is one more item off my list of track - another pair of turnouts with motors. I have now spent $ 55 on 4 turnouts with motors vs. $ 160 when buying them new. A few length of flex track, some curved track, two more turnout motors, rail joiners - that´ll be it! Guess I will have to spend another $ 80 on that, whhich means I will then have spent the money I got for the old layout. I still have a gift voucher which will cover most of the lumber for the layout.

Jeff - you are making excellent progress, but take your time and don´t overdo it!

Dennis - it helps to step back once in a while, but as you know, whenever the bug has bitten, it´ll be for a lifetime!

Have a happy one!

 Eveing Dinners

Wake Up Flo, I would like a Beer Pleases

Finally Got The New PK 2000 B & O GP 30 Running On The Test Track. Reason it would lock up was bad gears, 3 of the 4 where split and were binding. While it is a good running engine, at wide open it makes a racket. At lower speeds it sounds quite. Took me for ever to figuer / remember how to press the new Athearn gears on. My memory is not worth a cabosse any more, and I have done it some where around 8 times now. Sigh Next I need to find where my LED's and Restiors are, cannot remember where I but them. Whistling

wow, no one in for 6 hours?

Ulrich: we do the set-back of clocks next weekend, the 2nd. I dread ti. It will be getting dark as I go get the mail almost! 4pm dark zone straight ahead!

~Speaking of mail, it will now start getting here later and later as the holidays near, IF people are going to spend any money, or like us have any to spend at all...our budgets have gone up on things like energy, the phones, car repairs, cr insurance, so that shortens the budget for other things.Glad I got the pay-down done I did these last two months as it looks to be impossible later on to have any extra budget wise...I have worked th current budgetfourteen ways to sunday and MOH wants to quite the second job, which I don't blame, so it will cut us shorter still.

~I do have a package coming via mail, slow so with no tracking ID on it so I will have to wait patiently, the old way,  no its not train stuff, its needed though.

~Clothing. Trying a new company with cheap prices to see how well their clothes hold up! The added weight I gained with  the help of a new med has caused me to need new clothes. I am buying them sparingly as I don't intend to stay the added weight though...

~I will order a FEW items for Xmas..Santa will spend only about $100-120 this year. And that will have to Jan to pay off.

~I will have to see what MOH wants to get me {it will be a surprise, but will need my CC to execute the purchase}, I will only allow $50 as half of the $100-120 will be for both of us from Santa, you know.

~Hopefully the Santa gifts we get form parents will be "green" in color....that will help out a lot. But will probably go towards medical bills. MOH has a surgery coming up we will need to pay for.

~well, enough moaning...I guess,

~been a sslow day for me, and OH came home, collapsed into bed in bad shape. You know it bugs me....

~It bugs me that MOH was SUPPOSED to receive an infusion of medication that wil help the pagets disease in the bone in the L hip. The Drs office is being a pain about it...1st, they claimed the 'order didn't go trhough as we are waiting for the insurance pre-authorization'...so we call the insurance company..It doesn't NEED pre-auth as is generic!, but BTW, 2nd, the insurance mans tells the Drs office, here is authorization anyway..{we spent 1.5 hours on the phone on hold while the insurance man calls the DRs office and the hospital}, 3rd the insuarance man calls the hospital and they DID NOT RECIEVE THE ORDER, NEVER DID a month AFTER tehDr was to have issued it. 4th: the Drs offcie refuses to make an appt for MOH to GEt THE ORDER RE-ISSUED, adn REFUSES To LET US TALK TO THE DR. 5th, MOH has a follwoup visit with the Dr for aFTER THE INFUSION IS SUPPOSED TO HAVE BEEN DONE in Jan! It has NOT BEEN ISSUED according to the hospital!

Now I ask you [ not really, I'll tell you ] WHO has the power to issue/re-issue the order? THE DR! OR his OFFICE STAFF! MOH says "what will we do come January?" I said we GO AND while we SEE The DR express graphically but cordially, our Disdain for the handling of this matter by his office! Unfortuantely, he is the ONLY GAME In town!

~GRR now i am all upset over it again., but I cannot bear to see MOH in such pain! I have enough pain for both of us...MOH doesn't need it {pain}, especially when a treatment CAN HELP. IF only we can GET IT.

well, have a great nights rest, {I have NOT been sleeping well lately at all}..

After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.

Good Morning!

It´s nice to be woken up by the sunlight in the morning. Due to setting our clocks back, sunrise is now at 6.45am, but sunset already at 4.45pm. By December 21st, that will be at 8.30am in the morning and 3.15pm in the afternoon.

I bought a pair of switch motors from the bay. They are brand new, but only half the regular price. I guess by the end of this week, I will have all the track I need at hand. Coming Thursday I have an appointment at my garage to get my tires changed for those fur-lined ones. The garage is right next to the store I have the give voucher from, so while I get the tires exchanged, I´ll be able to buy the lumber for the benchwork. What I am not yet sure about is, whether I should mount the layout on those brackets I had my old layout on, or whether I should built legs with casters. If I mount the layout on those shelf brackets, I will have some difficulties reaching the staging tracks later on. May be a wise move to put the layout on legs, although this will add to the cost.

Galaxy - I have given up on trying to understand how the US healthcare system works. It seems to be inefficient and overly bureacratic. All I have to do is to present my little chip card when I go see my doc. When I go to a pharmacy to get my meds, I have to pay a prescription fee amounting to anything between $ 6 and $ 12, depending on the medication, but not more than $ 140 a year. The system is astonishingly easy to administrate - at least for a patient.

Have a great week!
