Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a bowl of hot oatmeal with brown sugar and my  Seneca Lake Roast coffee in my R&GV RR mug please.

Currently 44°F outside with a high of 48°F later this afternoon.  The sun has been peeking through the clouds this morning which doesn't help me a bit as right now my roof is completely shaded by the Maple Tree next door keeping any of the nice sunshine from hitting the solar panels today...  Of course in another half hour the shade will move off the roof and into my front yard, and it will start to rain!  Whistling  Need 75 kWh to break 300 kWhs this month.  Would be nice to almost break even you know.

Todd, why don't you tell us how you really feel...Smile, Wink & GrinLaugh  Love your posts!  As I was in bed this morning snuggling with my 22lb. Cat who had his head up against my beard purring away, I was reminded of a large sign my FIL used to have hanging on his porch.  "The More I Deal with People, The More I like my Dog!"

Have a 1PM appt. to reset my hearing aids today, then I will go next door and get my allergy shot.  After that I shall proceed to the grocery store for supplies.  Also need to stop at the Natural Food store and replenish my supply of world class dark roast coffee beans (and get some good chocolate too probably...).

Later!

 Morning All,

Currently it is 35 with an expected high of 71 under sunny skies.

Todd - I kind of like your rant. That is exactly how I feel at times. The other thing is young supervisors, who really have no life experience, think they know how to treat people, when in reality they have no clue.

Need to pick up a prescription before heading in to w**k later. This is the new BP med that I am on. Still have to take my BP twice a day to see if it is going to do the trick.

Really looking forward to the spring when I can actually retire. I know I will have lots of things to keep me busy, model railroading, reloading and shooting, also will have more time to do my gunsmith business, which will help with finances.

  Prayers to all in need.

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and a pulled pork sandwich with BBQ sauce, macaroni salad and a glazed donut please. Thank you.

Widespread frost before 9am. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 52.

Paul- I know what you mean about working with/for the general public. There are many times when I want to just say to them, “take your greater than thee, smarter than thee, you are my servant and the customer is always right even though I have proved to you I am an idiot attitude, and go back to where you came from and find someone else to put up with you. You’re lucky I don’t just knock you out of your chair right now, but that would land me in jail and you know that. Of course, THAT’s why you do it, because you know you can probably get away with it. Otherwise you’d sit there and act like an adult or get drug out behind the woodshed. Or…..is it this is your last place because you’ve run out of people who’ll put up with you. You do NOT spend enough money in here that the cash register will notice you when you’re gone. But I will. I will give you as much respect as you give me.”

Indifferent Whoa! Where’d THAT come from. I guess I had a little more penned up than I thought. Whew.Embarrassed

Mr B- The poisons have a chemical in them that stops the decay smell. In my experience, and apparently yours as well, d-CON can save some expense and not bother to add that ingredient.

Galaxy- Yup. I read the advertisements and like them. Not so much the old words though. But don’t stop just cause of me, others may enjoy them. Probably because I am trying to learn another language and my brain just doesn’t wanna learn any more words than I already am.Laugh

Welp, every day this week seems something small has come up that just ruins the whole day so to speak. Today I expect it to be no different. I’ve paid some bills and for the rest of the day, plan on only getting the screen panel out of the front storm door and replace it with it’s glass panel for the winter. Other than that 5 minute job, wo*k tonight at 5.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Jeffrey, is this game you are working on going to be PC compatible too?? Confused

Only if someone takes the time and trouble to convert it to run in QBasic. I have no plans for doing that.

Good Morning all!Cowboy

Flo my dear, A lumberjack special for breakfast today....and intravenous coffee too! Smile, Wink & Grin

Oh, it's been a nutty week, and the end will probably be nuttier! The job fair yesterday was a bust. Lots of jobs working in senior assisted living places, or in child care. Not so much for a greasemonkey supervisor of sorts. Of the 2 dealerships that were supposed to be there,, 1 was a no show, and the other I worked for before and left because they pay employees on a 1960's pay scale.

Went to the local auction house last night. Got some more trains to resell, but I think I'm keeping this. $5.00 bid won it!

Kinda looks like an Oscar Meyer product!

Jeffrey, is this game you are working on going to be PC compatible too?? Confused

Galaxy, The Ex-Lax thing reminds me of a stunt a buddy of mine pulled in high school. There was a teacher/basketball coach who was a real jerk at times. And he used to drink coffee from a beer stein. Coffee with a chocolate creamer. Well this buddy of mine slipped some chocolate Ex-Lax into his coffee. Poor teacher almost beat a path in the carpeting running back and forth to the bathroom that day! Laugh I found out about it from my history teacher in the next room, who he kept asking to cover for him while he ran to the bathroom!

Ray I feel you pain. I had to do the sleep study thing years ago. My doctor told me I had 2 options. Go with a CPAP machine, or lose some weight, or both. I dropped 80 pounds over the next 6 months, have kept it off, and now only snore if I have a head cold or forget my allergy meds. (allergic to cats, have 2 in the house,,,,duh!) I sleep well with no machine.

Garry, Never heard of a Gramps tanker being full of Geritol. Make me shudder to think what could be in my Hooker tank car? Whistling

Well, gotta finish packing up, I'll be spending time at the GMTS show in Timonium this weekend. Got a few boxes of stuff to sell, and stuff to search out and buy.

Easy come, easy go I guess Smile, Wink & Grin

Good morning. It's 50° with 81% humidity. The high will be 70°. Sunny with some clouds.

No plans for today. I have someone coming to pick up a copy of parts one and two of Native Fury. He'll beta test it on an Apple IIc for debugging and will recommend changes. Meanwhile I'll be going through another copy seeing what I can find.

Hi

Does anybody actually READ the tibits now? I include the medicine claims now as many are outdated and legal when some substances were legal back then, SOme medicines may just be a lot of Hooey like "swamp root".

Does anybody actually pay attention and try to use the "weird words"? They ARE real words, we either have no use for them today or they have become outdated like the buggy whip.

Let me know how you view them! If you want to see something in particular, word or phrase, or other "fun thing" lemme know what you'd like to see for future segments!

RAY says:

Also got a call from the Medical equipment place that they have my CPAP Equipment for me.  I will get fitted and learn how to use the stuff next Tuesday  The first 6 weeks will be a study to see if it works for me and what settings will be the best...  Went over to the Halloween Party for the Pack and Troop tonight and found that two leaders there (one who is a longstanding friend in Scouting) use CPAPs as well.

RAY- I have used a CPAP for years. Its fairly simple to use. I feel I get a Better QUALITY of sleep, but not necesssarilly feel better RESTED {than I did before, strangely enough}, though I am sure its true too.. I Have an O2 feed to mine as we discoverd through additional  testing that my Pulse Ox drops to 78 at night whilest I sleep. We found witht the testing that I actaully do NOT breathe for aobut 40 mins out of an hour's "sleep".

I also don't snore anymore and when the time comes we are out of power, I can tell my sleep is interrupted by my own snoring-asuming I get some sleep!

I call the two machines together my "respirator".

So good luck with all that...you should feel a better quality of sleep.

Evenin' folks!

Janie just a hot cup of decaf please.  I'll be in the back by the wood stove keeping warm.

High today was all of 49°F and it is currently 38°F with light rain outside.  Low will be around 35° with a possibility of some white stuff coming down along with it.  Won't stick around long, but it is getting to be THAT time of year again.  There was frost on the neighbors roofs this morning when I got up...  I spent part of the morning gleaning things from the garden, mostly peppers.  I saw there is one small zucchini out there.  I will bring it in tomorrow.

Watched #2 Granddaughter for a couple hours this afternoon.

Hope you all have a good night. Prayers for all in need!

I didn't get much more accomplished today than I've already posted so I won't bore you by posting it again. I did however make one slight change to part two of Native Fury. The character can now find a hole in the fence around Mr Addams' garden and get in. Trouble is once he's in there he has to get away from a very determined triffid. What, you ask is a triffid? It's a tall, mobile, carnivorous and highly venomous plant that's fully capable of hunting down any animal or person it detects. Don't worry. It's fictitious as well. It exists in a few novels, some TV series and a couple of movies that I know of and now it exists in a private game written in a nearly dead computer language on a computer that's more than half my age and I ain't exactly a spring chicken. Well enough humor for one day.

It's time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

One of the things I worked on today. An old Apple disk drive. Yes, it's solid black. I'm getting it to run fairly well but can't get it to track as tightly as it needs to. I need to get the read/write speed set. I have no diag software so it goes on the back burner for now.

I've got the bugs in part two pretty much ironed out. The map below is the basic layout of the game field. Yellow areas are the road. Green areas are yards/forest/etc. The blue areas are the first rooms of structures. The numbers are the starting line numbers of each area shown. This is nowhere near all the map. Only about one-sixth as most of the rooms of the structures and additional parts of the yards and such aren't shown. It's just to give you an understanding of how the area is laid out.

Well

erm

went to the Dr. nothing serious it turns out. GOod.

FILs 'puter in the shop so he came over to type a letter. naturally, MOH and FIL got into a fight-they are just alike so they each think the other is out to get them...Unfortunately FIL has MOH so trained that any word comes out of FILs mouth is a fighting word to MOH, so MOH told him to leave. The fight? over going to the cemetary to visit MILs grave! FIL is adamant on going on Sunday, and MOH doesn't know yet if that day is a day off or not. MOH wants to go too. FIL says will go alone if MOh can't go, MOH doesnt' like that idea...FIl is getting on in age, you get the picture. MOH is resitant to FIL and FIL is resistant to MOH. They fight instead. I am trying to change it,and often I have to take FILs side as MOH is too quick to jump to nasty behavior {fight back}. But FIL also doesn't learn to let things go when he should either. If MIL couldn't change them, why can I? Even in death she can't change them. Now if the two of them could only get along...Sigh

Oh well

Did usual chores and have roast {on sale the only kind i buy} in the oven. CHilly here...43F for a high thus far. Is only 66F in here, but we keep the heat low to save money. SOme of you would freeze visiting us with a temp of only 64F registering on the thermostat. The oven will warm it up in here.

Mr B. we had a cat chase a mouse and only injure it.. It crawled into a corner in a box we couldn't figure out where, just the gosh-awfull smell told  us that the mouse was dying/dead. Finally MOH tore apart stuff to find THE box it was in...{I could not as it made me vomit constantly anytime I got near the room it was in} . SO no 'eat and die off " stuff for us either...they NEVER leave to die!

well, I'd better get a nap before the roast is done. Tired.

later have a good evening and a good dinner..we will!

I use Victor mouse traps, the spring-loaded kind.  I bait them with peanut butter.  If I find one that's been sprung, but there's no mouse, well, I'll set it again.  The mouse got lucky, but his luck will run out.  If I find one that has not been sprung but the peanut butter is gone?  That means I've got ants, not mice.

I hate the glue traps.  SWMBO has a Terminix guy come in every year, basically to spray for termites, but part of the "service" is to put glue traps around inside.  Of course, I don't know where they are, so I have to wait until I detect the odor of decaying mouse, and then follow my nose to the trap.

Even worse are the poisons.  In theory, the mouse goes off and dies, supposedly of something that causes the body to dry up, but in my experience it doesn't work that way.  This time, the odor of decaying mouse is there, but the corpse is somewhere in the walls where I can't get at it, and the only thing to do is open windows and wait a week or so for the smell to stop.  Why anyone would use these things is beyond me.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

I'm pretty sure the place they're getting in here can be summed up in two words.

Good Morning/Afternoon

Another cool one here in Winterpeg. Sure wish Dennis would stop sending his weather here. I would much rather have some of Jeff's or Garry's.

Dennis,  The loco I'm thinking of selling is a Life-like Proto 2000, MLW/Alco S3 in CP maroon and grey livery with the script lettering. It really is a nice unit but as I noted I"m 'purifying' my roster to only CN so out it goes along with a TLT CP caboose or van if I'm being correct about names.  I suppose I"m beyond the 'thinking of' stage as I got the the boxes out for them last night.  Besides the BLI NW2 has sound and I do like sound in my locos.

Another very boring day here at my desk but I must admit it seems strange that this will be my last 'week-end' coming up.

Paul,  ask me in a couple of weeks about retirement.  Although I have a very light work load now, I don't think I'll miss the stress of dealing with other staff here. I'm in charge of the credit department and there is always some conflict not only with customers but also with the sales staff. In credit you are largely dealing with negative situations. In the past I've actually had to put some businesses into bankruptcy and believe me it isn't much fun introducing some store owner to the Reciever of his business. I'm ready to go.

Hope everyone's day is a good one.

Mornin'!

Zoe, I'll have a bowl of organic granola, yes, the Pumkin seed Flax stuff would be good, and lots of dark roast coffee in my FGLK Mug for the moment.

Paul, retirement is great!  At least it was for me.  Took away a lot of stress of teaching the "Sweathog" class of middle schoolers every day, going from school to school to school, dealing with idiot administrators and even more idiot parents!  I didn't stay idle for long though!

Ulrich, it's good to have you back, and have you sound like your old self!  I'm rather glad for you that you didn't get elected, just for your health and well being!

Jeffrey, so far I have 3 snap traps set here and on mousie wousies in them...  hope it stays that way.  Think I found and plugged the place they were getting in.

Had my trip to the ENT doc yesterday.  I have Moderate Sleep Apnea!  Like I didn't already know that....  He says I woke up every 15 minutes while I was taking the sleep test.  He looked down my throat and said, "I see you still have your tonsils!"  Yep, only one in my family who avoided the butcher....  My sister (the one who goes to the very far) almost died on the table when they took hers out.  She ended up having to have two tonsillectomies.  Anyway, I have an appointment for next Tuesday with the Medical Equipment place just a block away from where I live to get set up with a CPAP type thingie for a "Home Titration Study".  "Oh Joy, Oh Rapture."

Got my sister home from her trip last night.  She hadn't slept in 48 hours....  Amazingly she was in a good but as always talkative mood.  Actually had a great trip except for the cancellation of her flight from Frankfort to Astana (that's in Bezerkistan I think...) which got cancelled after they sat on the plane for several hours.  That was on her way to the the area so she had 4 hours of sleep before she had to get on the plane to reach her destination and leave with the group.  She brought me a shirt (which I will tell you about later) and a bar of very fine chocolate from her trip.  On the way home I told her I had done some cat research and think her cat Claude has some...  She stopped me mid sentence and said, Yes, I know, he likely is a hybrid Scottish Wild Cat!.  I asked how she knew that, and it seems before she left for the trip she had seen the same article on line I did and started to look up info.  She too did an OMG that's Claude when she say photos and descriptions about the Scottish Wild Cat.  He was glad to have her home I think.

Will be sitting for my Granddaughters this afternoon, so I have to clean out my car so #2 can have a car seat in the back.  I leave the back seats down most of the time so I can haul stuff in the PiP.

Later!

Good morning. It's 57° with 89% humidity. The high will be 82° and feel like 85°.

Nailed another of Mickey's relatives under the kitchen cabinet this morning in one of the ever dependable cheese baited snap traps. The glue traps are clean.

Today I'll most likely be ironing out some bugs in part two of Native Fury. I'm thinking about what I'm going to do in part three. The character has so far found some of the pieces of the Indian artifact he's looking for but there are still some others that have to be located included the prized ceremonial headdress.

Been having a recurring problem with this computer the last couple of weeks. On startup it's developing a habit of reverting to it's defaulte CMOS values. It's the same thing every time so I'm pretty certain I need to replace the CMOS battery. It's only been in there for over ten years.

  Morning All,

Currently it is 36 with an expected high of 76 under sunny skies.

I thought I had a stress test a few years ago, turns out it was toward the end of 2004, I had my double by-pass in Jan of 2004. Sheesh time does fly. Stress seems to be the issue for me at the moment. As my late wife Bobbi would always say, "You can't help how you feel." and I believe she was correct. I think part of the stress is that I no longer have her council, which I depended on for the 42 years we were married. Another thing is that, anyone who knows me well, knows that I am pretty much a loner, and am not all that thrilled with most people (patrons of the dinner are not in that category, you folks I like). So working retail is not the ideal job for someone like me. Too many people that just set my nerves on edge. Retirement is the cure.

  Prayers to all in  need.

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and ……whatever Swedish people have for breakfast please. Thanks.

Mostly cloudy, with a high near 45.

Ulrich- Working knowledge of the language of the country you’re living/working in huh? Hmm Now there’s an interesting concept. In the U.S., we have to learn the languages of those coming over here because we don’t want to offend them and risk a substantial fine or possibly imprisonment.

Ended up having to wait on tables last night and meet with a couple deliverers during the day. Stock the beer coolers etc. My friend was sick and his daughter couldn’t do it (wait on tables) so instead of helping her like I usually do, I powered through it by myself. I prefer it the other way but hey, whatcha gonna do.

Today, I must get to the Walmart for some coffee, bread and a few odds and ends along with a buffet dinner for one, tended to by a quiet girl with an accent who smiles a lot and calls me sir.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Happy Thursday!  I can say that, because I'm taking tomorrow off.  My daughter invited me up to a "Tastes of Maine" festival tonight, so I'll drive up after work, enjoy myself, stay over and then take the day off.  I may take in one of the narrow-gauge museums, and possibly look into a train shop that's rumored to be in the area.

Still coughing, but it's getting better.  I added an Advil PM to my regimen for sleeping with a cold.  Over the weekend, I took two of them (in addition to Benadryl and Delsym) and slept solidly for 10 or 11 hours.  With 1 of them, I woke up OK after 9 hours.

zabernism: (n. From the German name for Saverne, a town in Alsace) : The misuse of military authority, bullying

Galaxy - the towns name was Zabern until 1918, when Alsace was "repatriated" to France. Alsace has been German or French a number of times in the past 4 centuries, leaving the folks there with an interesting cultural mix. The language is more German than French, but the food is more French than German. If you look for German "Gemuetlichkeit" and delicious food - that´s the place to go!

Here is a picture of Saverne (Zabern):

Ulrich- when I saw that word, I immediately thought of you! That was why I included it today...

Thank you for sharing a pic of Alsace, never thought of that myself.

AT 34F There is Ice on the windshield so I will have to warm up the Kia before I go out if I do.

Going to the ENT Dr. Gonna find out {if he knows} why my voice is like gravel being crushed in blender. It was raspy anyway for a long time, but now it is like gravel being crushed. DOn't knwo what he can do unless there are polyps on h

Gonna be very chilly a lot . At a temp of 65F in the house here,  on the furnace it has kicked on several time automatically already this AM.

Yesterday the dentist altered my partial so it seats better. Feels better.

After the ENT guy sticks stuff down my throat, I will NEED a NEMBUTAL suppository!

Oh the joys of health care.

Pascaff PAUL-hope it turns out to be only stress! I underwent the chemical heart stress test , the cardio-cath, and every other test they could throw at me and found out my heart simply has an extra half beat as it wants to beat again before it is supposed to. SO I take 2 meds for it. ANd I will always have an anomoly in my EKG due to that. It gets scarry at times when it gets stuck in a rhymitc disfunction {even with the meds}. But I pause rest and let it get itself re-regulated to a more normal beat. Feels like I will pass out when it gets really irratic. But I will live, it won't kill me, at least not for now.

Well, every body have a great day!

Good Morning!

A lovely day outside, spoiled only a little by the my appointment with the dentist Crying

Today´s mail brought the modelling clay, now I am all set to start construction of the background buildings! Will give it a first short tomorrow, as I don´t think I´ll be up to much after my appointment.

Today's limmerick:

There was a young lady named Harris

Whom nothing could ever embarrass

'Til the salts that she shook

In the bath that she took

Turned out to be Plaster of Paris.

Good evening everybody ...

Paul .... Sounds like your tests are doing okay. I've had some of those chemical stress tests, and I don't like them. Prayers for you as you decide about possibly relocating near your daughters. Of course, you always have friends here in the Diner, too..

CN Charlie. .. That's very nice about the $100 gift certificate. I'm sure you will enjoy it. If you really want a CN Alco, you could consider getting an undecorated one and painting it. The CN paint scheme is a simple one.

Curt .... you look great with your haircut! Big Smile

Ray ..... I'm sure our leaves will look like yours in a couple of weeks. We are seeing the migrating white pelicans already. So, it may be a cold winter.

Cdb Dennis ..... Brrrrrr...... That's cold!

Jeff ... I see you have your bulk Geritol tank car (Gramps) again. Looks like snow is on it. Must have been in Cdn Dennis's territory.

I'm in a good mood because my retirement accounts got a boost today. I have railroad company stocks. Canadian Pacific stock price jumped up about 9% today. CP shares have increased about 70% in the past 12 months and about 140% in the past 24 months. They haul oil from Canada, and I gotta love the nuts who are blocking construction of a pipeline to haul the oil. Other railroads are doing well also. KCS, NS, and CN had good gains today, too.

On my layout, I'm liking my new reverse loop. It definitely improves operations on my layout.

Happy Model Railroading!

Well my father and step mother got in about three hours ago. Except being tired from the long trip they're doing fine.

No further work on Native Fury apart from that this morning. I have to come up with a grid and flowchart for part three, the final chapter. I haven't yet figured out where that's going to take place. At the end of part two the character opened a trap door in a closet and dropped into a shimmering swirling vortex. When and where he ends up is anybody's guess.

Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.
