The Danish authorities have granted the permission to acquire property in Denmark, but I just have found out that the house we liked is already sold! It was listed only last Friday! I am very much disappointed!

Dave .... That is very interesting about the mink at your dock. We hardly ever see minks. Foxes are much more common.
JR .... I think you and I are like most model railroaders because we model what we saw when we were young. As I say, I grew up next to the CB&Q, and they were all EMD in the 1950's except for some yard switchers. Perhaps, it was the fact that EMD ws located in La Grange, IL which was a station on the CB&Q. I did railfanning of other roads in Chicago area, and I recall seeing the ATSF Alco PA's from time to time.
I never saw Santa Fe 90 (FM Erie Builts), but I always liked seeing pctures of them. Here is a photo that just showed up on Facebook.

Good evening diners. I got called into work today and actually did some - first time in 2 months! It's gone Teatime in the UK (19:22) and tonight Ladies I would like to sample some Minnesota delicacy; 'Tater Tot Hotdish' and a Pint of 'Surly Darkness' beer, anyone.
I'm glad things seem to be settling down a bit for people. Brent, I dig 'Mystery Machines'. I like seeing all photos on this site.
Ulrich, last time we moved home (at Mrs. L's insistance) it took us 6 months to complete - if that's any consolation. We've spent @£20k on this place and we will never get it back (been married for 44 years and I gave-up arguing 43-1/2 years ago)
Last evening it was Progressive Rail and then I found the DM&IR, pre & post CN. What great footage that was. Those dinky little Ore-cars make the trains seem twice as long - if that makes any sense? Paul

Back when I was born - Minneapolis, 1958 - the Twin Cities alone had 9 large railroads: Great Northern, Northern Pacific, Burlington Route, Milwaukee Road, Chicago & North Western, Chicago Great Western, Minneapolis & St. Louis, Rock Island, and Soo Line; plus shortlines Minneapolis Northfield & Southern and Minnesota Transfer. Go back to 1954 and you could add the Twin City Lines streetcar system.
Outside 'the cities', in the far south you had an Illinois Central branchline coming up from Iowa, and Green Bay and Western had some trackage in Winona MN, on the west bank of the Mississippi. In the far north, a short section of Canadian National's mainline ran along the south shore of Lake of the Woods, connecting with Duluth Winnipeg & Pacific and Minnesota Dakota & Western. In Duluth you had the Missabe Road, Duluth South Shore & Atlantic...and although it primarily served Superior WI, I think Lake Superior Terminal and Transfer had some trackage in Duluth.
Of all those, only CN is still around.

Another long hot day. The 9th day in a row over 90° with high humidity. This kind of weather reminds me of the southern U.S. You can go outside at midnight and the temperature is still in the high 80s. You can tell I wouldn't survive in Florida or Arizona.
Working in the garage is hot, sweaty work. Finally, the end of the garage project is in sight. Maybe tomorrow.
I had to make a run to Menards in Lincoln, NE, today. I was surprised that no one was allowed in the store without a mask. I had one, but they had some at the desk for $1.00. A big sign at the front said no one comes in without one. The store was crowded, but everyone honored the sign -- I didn't see a single person without a mask.
I know several of you diners are battling health issues. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
When my youngest daughter got married at a cabin on a Minnesota lake, we stayed at this resort called Chase on the Lake. Nice place.
Minnesota's license plate says "Land of 10,000 Lakes", but I read the state actually has over 11,500 lakes.

Yes, my wife is very good at pointing out things I really already knew.
She pointed out that I have a HUGE loving family that came with her into our marriage, then we added to the mass, and they all love me. Neither of my sisters have anything like that, and they are looking for family anywhere they can grasp for it.
This woman is not my family, but my sisters are, so we will support my sisters and no further.

You are correct Garry. I grew up a block from the New Haven 4 line main and have been within a mile ever since (excepting time spent out of state of course). I was a toddler when the last steam ran so I don't remember any of that but the electrics especially the EP-5 Jet and the other electrics I do. Riding to and from my Grandmothers to visit we usually took the train and walked from the station to her house which wasn't too far. My father and grandfather both commuted by train so yes I guess it all got ingrained from an early age.
Still plastering the parking lot though I'm getting closer to done. Picked up more stuff for the backdrops this morning on my way in to the shop. Two gensets done, one out to repair, one to plant in a trailer and one left after that to fix. Making progress at last. Time to get back to it. Ciao, J.R.

I was feeling quite depressed today, but now I am happy again. Each evening, I check the Danish real estate platform to see the new listings. Most of them are either too expensive or simply junk, but today I found a house which is just a dream!

The house is on a 3/4 acre plot of land, mainly lawn. everything appears to be well kept. The asking price is about $130k, which is what our friend and us can just afford!
I have sent an email to the real estate agent this afternoon and will ring him up tomorrow morning! If everything goes well, Petra and I will be off to view the place early next week! It´s less than 3 hours away from us. If someone would move the house 10 miles west to the (German) island of Sylt, the same place would go for $4 million!
I am all excited! Keep your fingers crossed!

I just ate my weight in popcorn, I am the king of stovetop popcorn makers. That title used to belong to my grandfather, no microwave stuff here. May this day not repeat. Why is it when I am on call , either the power goes out for the whole hospital or the whole network goes kaput. Atleast it was not in the middle of the night this time.

This seems to turn into a good day! Not only was I woken up by the sun smiling into my face, but I have managed to make another step forward to moving to Denmark. I called the real estate agent and we have set up a meeting at the site coming Wednesday at noon. That is providing the travel restrictions will be lifted and the border to Denmark is open again. It has been announced for Monday, June 15th for tourists with a minimum stay of 6 days in Denmark, outside of the COVID-19 hotspot of Copenhagen. We just want to go on a 1-day "business" trip, a mere short hop over the border, returning the same day. I hope the Danish authorities will let us pass!
Should I have a lucky streak? I hope so!
