Thanks for the pics Dave. I was through the Badlands in the 60's on our cross country trip but never went through the Dakotas after that on numerous trips with the trucks and trailers. We usually ran 80 out and back and even the trips to and from Oregon and Washington had legs in California before and after so we never went on the northern routes. Pretty country though.
Did some more with the layout paving but not much ambition last night. I have another sliding panel track to do for the backround and then more paint for same.

I hired three General Contractors for four seperate projects back in February. One project is 90% done, one is 50% done, and the other two have not started yet.
I am about $15,000.00 out of pocket, and very frustrated.
Still waiting on a window to be custom made, safety PPE to become available, and the back-log of other projects to clear.

I hate hearing stories such as this. Its contractors like this that give the good ones a bad name in a stereotype sense.
My whole life I have started and completed one job at a time. I have a 31 year record with the Better Business Bureau of an A+ with zero complaints.
These contractors who think they can juggle jobs and make more money are only leaving a trail of unsatisfied customers behind.
I would recommend that anyone thinking of hiring a contractor checks out their company name with the Better Business Bureau and do a little research first.

TF As far as still having pneumonia, have no clue. I have not heard a word from the VA for a follow up visit which seems odd. When the local hosptial found blood clots in my leg they where on the phone the next day.
Work Front Going to test the waters Saturday and work for 4 to 6 hours. If I do OK they want me back next week. I have not been away from the house for more than 45 minutes after I broke the rib.
Kevin I know why your shippment took so long! If your shippent came from ILL they took to long route because they where running from Dirk Pip, he hates UPS trucks! He went nut's a few days ago when a UPS truck was in front of the house! Dang near got a way from me and pulled out of his harrnes! Luckly he was in his chair and I grabbed his collar or that UPS truck would had no tires!
Wife wants to sit outside with with Dirk and I so later.

Oh Man, ... Ken, I remember that one time I talked to you quite a while ago. And here's a little something about me. I'm short and sweet but usually not so sweet. From the time I meet someone in a minute and 30 seconds, I either like them or don't.
I remember I did like you in our conversation a while back. I hate how our Vets are treated. You deserve Front Row Center and if it was up to me you would have that. I sure know you are on your road to recovery though.
You're a good man Ken You just let your mind at ease. People are pulling for you and I am one of them. You are going to feel a whole lot better soon and I just know that. Don't ask me how I know that, I just do because I talk to the man upstairs
P.S. I forgot to give an update on the status of Kelly. The report today is she's improving. Yesterday was just stable. They were going to wake her up from her coma on Friday but it looks like they're going to wait till Monday now. The doctor said her Improvement is encouraging and they would like to keep her under for a little more time.

Ken - It is slightly odd they didn't. Especially given the pneumonia. Glad you are improving. Don't overdo it this weekend, as we don't wish to see it bother your ribs. (Or the pneumonia if it's still present.)
Kevin - The contractor I would use is normally extremely busy, but only because he is one who will finish the job before starting his next except in an emergency, and because he does very excellent work. His "normal" waiting list is a couple of months out, but with the pandemic affecting things, it's a bit longer.
The remodel consists of removing two interior non-structure bearing walls, repainting the remaining standing ones, (All of which are weight-bearing structure walls.), and removing the carpet and installing a laminate floor. So while it is not a major task, help from someone more knowledgable in the task would be appreciated. (And keep me from dealing with all the dust, hence possibly avoiding affecting asthma and allergies.) Trying to see if it's at all possible, but we shall have to wait and see.
MLC - Congrats to the MRS from me as well.

Trains - Have the sill primered for the C425, as is the main body. I patched the hole in the cab roof where they would normally mount the horn, and the putty is cuuently still drying. Once dry I will sand the correct roof contour in flush, and then add cab sunshades and the radio antenna before primer coating it. AC unit is mounted to the roof already. (3D Printed part via a vendor. Fit like a glove!) The Reading green paint should arrive in my mailbox tomorrow, along with the decals for the GE unit.
Weather - A much improved temperature after last nights storms. 76°F today, with bright sun and low humidity. Last nights storms did knock out my electricity for about 6 hours, and brought a big chunck of my Mother's Lilac tree/shrub down as well. I was pleasantly surprised the apple tree and the pine tree in the back yard had very little damage done. The pine tree will need taken down this summer, and the apple tree had a section split last year, but somehow it has not had any issues. (Too far from any structure to cause any damage, so it will be left alone unless it gets damaged further or comes down on it's own.)

Good Morning!
I had an early start on this rather wet and grey day. Took my car to the garage for the bi-annual technical inspection and the annual service (I skipped the last one - we hardly put any miles on the car). This is going to cost about $550 - a hefty draw from the getaway kitty! I hate tp send amounts like that in the current situation, but we need a car. Unfortunately, laws prevent us from driving a cheap old clunker.
I hope the technical survey does not unearth any costly problem!
A regular and a blueberry bagel toasted with cream cheese please Zoe. 66F but the humidity is all over the place already. Patches of warm and cold air both on the way to the shop this morning so the screen would alternately mist on the outside or fog on the inside. Finally used the old school method and opened all the windows and got on with it.
Glad to hear Kelly is doing better and I hope Lions brother Brian is getting better too.
Ken - good to hear you will start up work again but take it easy.
Ulrich - good luck with the inspection. We get annuals on the rolling stock here and it always costs something. On the other hand I'd rather fix stuff here than on the road.
Kevin - you got lucky. Usually when the package ends up in Knoxville it is for reinspection and it disappears. They never did find our transmission computer they impounded when it returned from service in Germany. I have a funny Hoerr brothers story (HRP) if you want to hear it.
Cleaned the embedded rails and touched up the paving last night. I still need to add fencing and parking spots and maybe some other paint lines to the area but it is starting to look like a road and parking area.

It reads "server error 404 file or directory not found ". Does anyone else have this problem or is it just me? Or does anyone know how to fix this?

P.S. I do have another question. Is it possible to paint an N-scale through truss bridge with a rattle can? I'm looking at this thing overwhelmed wondering how to get the inside painted with out over painting the outside?
Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. This one has got me really baffled.

Spartan SD-20 is an industrial cleaner that really is not for sale to the general public. Hoerr Brothers has it available. After being involved in the industrial world for so long, I have an appreciation for how much better some products are than the consumer stuff on the shelves.

Yes. I painted this Kato bridge when I was in N scale with a spray can. I held the can a good ways away and applied light coats from lots of different angles.
It was factory painted silver before I painted it gray, so lapses in coverage are not too visible.

Just picked the car up from the garage. It passed the inspection with flying colors. The bill including service, changing the oil and brake fluid, new air filter, new cabin filter, came to a little less than the estimate. They even cleaned the car inside out and disinfected it. Good service!
The technical inspection is quite stiff! I bet half of the cars on US roads wouldn´t pass over here. But there is a good reason for being so rigid. Germans drive much faster than others and their cars need to be in excellent shape to cope with the speed.

You just hit a serious hot-button issue with me. I take safety very seriously, and highway safety is a joke in the United States.
We have a commercial vehicle inspection force associated with the Florida Highway Patrol and Florida DOT.
EVERY time I have seen them stop a vehicle for an inspection it is a Wal-Mart, FedEx, Ryder, Amazon, Publix, or Southeastern Freight truck. These companies have the best maintenance programs you can imagine. They will never find a violation on these vehicles. While they are wasting time inspecting a well-maintained UPS truck, you can watch eight or nine owner-operated dump trucks go by at 85 miles per hour with parts and rocks falling off.
It is a great example of professional laziness. Given the choice of inspecting a perfect truck like Wal-Mart, or an obvious rolling hazard like Local Hotshot Speedy Service, they choose the Wal-Mart truck, walk around for an hour, do nothing, then leave.
The highways are just as dangerous and nothing is accomplished.

Me too, Garry! I just couldn´t afford a major repair at the moment. So, cars are not inspected in Kentucky? OMG! If you drive like the guy in the following video (speeds up to 250kph), your car needs to be in good shape.
Good morning. I just finished the lawn, and I need a cup of coffee.
Every Tuesday during the school year, our church's youth group has Taco Tuesdays. They call them "walking tacos", but they sound exactly like MLC's Frito Pie.
They open a bag of Fritos, and the kids dump in all kinds of stuff -- onions, chili, cheese, tomatoes, sour cream, etc. The kids then can leave to head back to school with the bag of food. It's messy to eat, but no one complains.
Another South Dakota landmark. During the depression, a man had a drug store near the highway. He looked for a way to get customers to stop, so he blanketed the highways with signs advertising "Free Ice Water". The business took off.
Today, it is two square city blocks of tourist souvenir shops.
