Good evening,

Weather today was weird but I did get caulking done and wood filler. Did the first sanding and will do some more touch up later when it gets good and dry. Just wanted to seal up the top rail and some cracks before I get the stain out in about 6 weeks to two months. SW has a sale this month with 40% off so I will get the stain then and wait till it it is ready to do. Also sanded off all the sharp edges so things are nice and smooth. I am happy with it so far.

Looks like cold and rain tomorrow then warming up into the 70s for the weekend.

SJ and Pat, Congrats,,,WOW that is a long time!

Don, keep up the good work with the ILs  and take care of yourself. Angel

Did I say that daughter and SIL bought a 2016 Explorer to replace the 2014 Fusion? They hit a chuckhole on I55 with that and blew two tires off the POS. Damn no sidewall tires! The Explorer is a 7 seater that Katie will take over and poor Dan will end up with the 2008 Equinox. Laugh I have not seen it yet but I guess it has just under 30K on it. Most likely it was a leaser car. Maybe I will see it this weekend?

Have a good one.

Afternoon all!

Cloudy all day with a cool start, but ending nicely. Possible rain tomorrow and Sat. May hit some low 80's?

Have an event tonight at our daughters wedding venue tonight. They do a tasting of the available food, etc., at a sit down meal similar to how they run the actual event. One thing we like about the venue is they have their own kitchen and prepare all the food on site vs hauling it in in warming racks.

Dennis - sorry about the fall. Hope no further issues than the scraps and aches.

DonB - prayers for your FIL and the family.

Fife - bummer about the MTH locos - they make sticker timing strips that you can use. These are the strips that come in the upgrade kits. However - all the timing strips use 24 stripEs (As I recall). You could paint them on.

SJ - good one! I will have to use that sometime - only 26 years to our 60th

Thank you S-P Jim I tell everyone we lasted 60 years because neither of us wanted the kids. An then when I checked, the marriage license has no experation date. MTH batteries drove me nuts and it's the reason I have only a few of their engines. Things that Lionel didnt offer at the time. Sun, wind and 50s today.

The not so good news is with some of my MTH engines.  Was pulling some of the fleet from their boxes, and firing them up, with mixed results.  Two of the steamers had lost their synchronized "chuff" ability, and a closer inspection revealed that the black/white "speed" striping had deteriorated off the motors.  Also, all of the replacement batteries I had put in have gone bad.  I had always replaced the oroginal MTH white batteries with the metallic green ones from Radio Shack (remember them?), and most have turned black, showing some corrosion around the terminals. Surprise  Looks like I'll be buying BCR's in bulk.

That's one of the problems with MTH engines.  I love my MTH engines, but always replace the batteries with BCRs when they need replacing.  Would not want to store any away for a long period with batteries in  them.  I try, not always successfully, to rotate my engines so the batteries keep charged and I know when they are dying.

By the way I,m still around, just not as active and chipper as I once was.

John, I was taking several guys from here that wanted to go.  We all are not going now.  Actually a waste of money.  Except for seeing the gang, nothing to go for.  Lionel and Atlas not going.  Can buy internet just as cheap.  Probably why York is shrinking in numbers.

Will miss the gang.

Chief, I know what you mean. If it wasn't for the friends that I meet and the short dive to York for me, I probably would not go either.  It's been a number of years since I bought anything signifigant there.  I mainly go for two days now, because I can't walk the whole thing in one day anymore.  About four hours of walking in a day and I'm beat.  Goes with turning 80 I guess.

Local friends and I have been discussing how long the show will last in it's current form. May go to fewer days or once a year before it completely disapears.  One of the problems of the low attendance from the public is the complete lack of advertising locally.  Whenever a show that is open to the public is at that venue, there are billboards on all the major highways around here.  I have never seen one about the York tains show, seems to me that the Eastern Division doesn't really want the public there.

I actually had Redfire on deck for this project, but I wanted to see if I could do it.  That was the good news.

Good Morning from beautiful sunny 54°F Southern Ohio,

I sorted out a few more accessory wires from the control panel last night in preparation to land them on the layout terminal blocks.  I’m glad I labeled the wires and maintained a color scheme.  In typical AF fashion Black = Base, Yellow = accessory power, Green = primary function, Red = secondary function, White = alternative base.  Still moving the accessories around a bit, but the plan is firming up.  I’m liking it!

Fife - Congratulations on the revival!  You have captured the source of my enjoyment in the toy train hobby.

SJ & Pat - CONGRATULATIONS!  May God continue to bless your matrimonial sacrament

Don - Prayers of God’s will for your FIL, and I sooo understand your conversation with you MIL, as my bride’s mom’s health also is in decline and she like Kay is the primary caregiver

8n - Sounds like a great plan to me.

Kev - Nice work

Jefelectric - good to hear from you

May God bless you and your families

Jim

DeadDeadLightning  It's ALIVE!  It's ALIIIIIVVVEEE!!!  Spent yesterday rebuilding the AF 303 Reading 4-4-2.  It's only been waiting for 3 years on the bench.  To be honest, it's my first AF rebuild.  Kinda took me back to my HO days (I could strip down and rebuild ATHEARN locos Blindfold).  The 303 had suffered a few drops, as evidences by broken screw housings, and bent siderods.  Simply worked each issue, and removed a lot of sawdust from its inerds.  Then onto the track.  A hum. A few clicks.  A nudge or two.  Then it spring to life; light shining, smoke puffing, chuffer chuffing.  It is very satisfying bringing a toy train that had been dormant for 4 decades back to life.

Cool

Good Evening,

A VERY VERY belated HAPPY 60th to SJ and Pat. That is really huge!!

Glad to hear Char did well and on the way to recovery.

Our situation is about the same, FIL had pacemaker and defibrillator removed today.  (Due to infection as a result of replacing it two weeks ago.  The old one's battery was almost dead.)

The plan was to remove the one just installed, then allowing the chest to heal a little, and ensure all the infection was gone, this was anticipated to take 4-5 days.  Then put in a new one, #3 in.  It was determined today that a "temporary" pacemaker is required, so they have one attached to his neck, until the permanent is installed.  Given his current WEAK condition I have doubts he will make it through the week.  Last thing he needs now is extended bed restriction.

MIL is "doing well"  had to explain to her 10-15 times what was going on, and that he was going to be having another surgery but she insists know one told her.

So on it goes.

On a much brighter side, Chris found a  situation where we may work the Long Beach Grand Prix, checking credentials.  That would be cool.

Take Care All !!

Just got back from our Michigan place late Monday night.  Up early again today to take my wife into K.C. for a follow up appointment with the pulmanary doctor.  The outpatient proceedure she had done a couple of months ago is doing what it was supposed to - all is good.  The rest of the week will be spent with a little time working on the layout at the museum and getting set up for the robotics meet that the local high school is hosting this weekend.

While we were up north, the lakefront house across the street went up for sale.  That property is two lakefront lots with a small house built on one of them.  I called the realator to see if they would split the lots and just sell us the empty one.  Nope.

We are afraid that the new owners would build a garage or tear down the current house and build a larger one and end up blocking the view of the lake we have from our back yard, so we put a good enough offer on it to get the sale.  We will own the view of the lake now.

Don't really need the house, but we now have the empty lot.  Figure we will use the new house while we do some rennovations on our current house, then sell it this fall or next spring.

I've floated the idea of using that lakefront house as a train house with my wife.  Didn't seem to go over very well.

All for now.

Hello there,

hard to believe the Pot is 15 years old.   I joined in January 08.  Miss all those who used to post. Especially the ones that have passed on. Those who remain don't post as much they once did. Lot's going on. Contractor started yesterday .  All three roofs and the back porch are off and felt is down to keep things dry. About 15% of the  house roof back on.

Good afternoon from a cool but okay North Bluff. Calling for rain later so I had to get with it early.

Yesterday the deck was all but done, ran short on 2"x2"s for the last 5 pickets so I got those today and finish it up.

Phase # 5 Railings are done. Nothing left but to let it cure for about two months then some caulk and wood filling and it will be ready for stain. Big Smile

Afternoon Fellas

I won't be at York in April... just too much going on. Dealing with 'stupid' stuff related to the Pittsburgh house, keeping the house in MD straight, and dealing with work. Hopefully will be able to make it in October... if they have it?

Disappointing that the big players in our hobby are chosing to ignore the people buying their products.

Wow! 15 years! Cake

I remember the Chief putting out the word that he thought I was not real because he could not find Rogers Corners on a map.

Ah the Buckeye.  Does he ever tell the whole truth?  Think there is a picture of me standing under the Rogers Corner water tower with me handing Buckeye a bag of GRITS.

37 and COLD rain.  No snohio.  I hear the Weather Channel is passing false info.

Meetings this afternoon and evening till late.

Have a good one.

Overcast and 50s today.

A lot of names have past through this pot in 15 years. Remember the time a box car was sent from person to person, signed and sent on.

Good evening all,

Semi-quiet day at work.  Sunny but cold at noon.  Got Indiana taxes done tonight.  More pieces of paper than the fed forms.  Go figure.   Girls soccer team has new head coach.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Anybody started a York discussion yet?

John - not really. Many of the regular Yorkies here have commented over the past weeks that they are likely not attending.

I will be there as you know. For those going (I.e. Banks) We are planning a breakfast at the Cracker Barrel for Friday morning (as has been our habit the last couple Yorks due to the NY bus crowd hitting the RoC Diner Friday mornings in recent years.

Good Morning from sunny 34°F Southern Ohio,

Busy weekend!  The new bishop of our diocese was installed Friday and it was a really grand affair.  Over the rest of the weekend between regular outside and inside work I worked on the layout.  I added 8” to the 12 leg of the ell, and reconfigured some of the accessories, and now have four of the accessories working from the control panel.

Oldest girl got her driver’s license Friday; a mixed blessing.  She can now help with transporting herself and her siblings, but an increase in coordinating car use.

Lunch break about over

May God bless you and your families

Jim

Friday was a long day, didn't get home until 10ish.....

Saturday, got a small section done with grass and started putting some accessories on the the completed sections.  I'm really pleased with the results up to now.
Spent Saturday night helping a friend move stuff around, her daughter is moving out with her BF (who's become a real a$$h0le), and Sunday, tossing out empty boxes and some light repairs around the house.

Got home a did a few more things to the layout.  So far so good.  Update 11 possible this weekend.  Trying to solve a problem with roads and curbing on the Christmas and Main Street part of the layout, once the Spooky Town part is completed.

Brutus, hope Char is ok.

Off and running, already had computer issues...Did 22 scans Friday...up to 7 right now.
