CoolCool  Hey Brent, check out the Alpine Lake homes, near TerraAlta (just inside WV near Deep Creek).

Thanks to all of this nation's Veterans.  It was fun recognizing the Vets on our train yesterday.  Free dogs and drinks as well.

Morning.  Cloudy and rain later.

Off to Veterans' Memorial.  11:00 thing.

Brent, two places to keep up is not my style.  Why we got rid of lake house.  Either you hire someone to do it for you or run back and forth.  Waste of time.  If you do it while you are there on weekends, end up spending most of your time on that.

Have a good one.

Mornin' Fellas

8n - My wife and I are having a house built in a small community about 40 minutes south of our current house. While we aren't meeting with an architect and designing something from scratch, this has been a very eye-opening experience. We have discussed purchasing a plot of land in Deep Creek, MD and building a vacation home but that won't happen for a few years now. We've seen a few properties with existing buildings that show potential - and will give us a place to stay while our house would be built... just not sure the properties can support two buildings at the same time... lol. I've always wanted a log home, and TheVPQ likes them as well (for her vacation home it would be OK), so maybe I'll get to finally design one and get it built... then maybe look into renting it out when we aren't using it.

Fife is making it harder and harder for me to avoid a trip... Sigh

Found out I have to make another trip to Pittsburgh to remove the old garden fence and trim back the neighbor's tree... seriously... why can't/don't people maintain their properties??? It isn't just your house you have to keep up with, but the trees, yard, retaining walls, drive way... there is more to home ownership than just the house itself!!!! Bang Head

This software really blows....

Good evening all,

Better weather day.  Spent 2.5 hours mulching today, much longer than I planned but did more area than originally thought.  Should have to make one more pass in a much smaller section of the yard.  Watched Man City defeat Man U 3-1 on Telemundo.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good afternoon all!

Gray and 52 right now. Possible rain tonight. Temps Mon and Tues night will hit the 20's!

Slow day. Watching the snoozer NASCAR race in Phoenix. Other than determining who is the champ for 2018, the race in Miami will also be a snoozer....they said Phienix race was sold out but grandstands don't support that statement.

Headed with the kids to an event at a movie theater across town this afternoon.

A salute to the vets and my uncles, great-uncle, and a cousin that served in WWI, WWII, and Korea. They all passed years ago.

Regards, Roy

Never got above freezing yesterday but the sun was out so it got rid of the snow it could shine on. 33 now and they say 40 later. Today is my brother's and sister's birthdays. Different mothers, 11 years apart and on Veterans day to boot. Huh?

Things are pretty slow here otherwise.

Please don't forget the Vets!

Morning all,

No snow this morning, but still around freezing. The deck was a little slippery when I let the dog out this morning. Not much on the go today other than the usual. (Hockey, church and watch football.)

I've been looking at redoing some of my ballast on my Super O layout. I think I might get a few bags of Brennan's to try.

Continued prayers for those in California.

Remembering those who made the Ultimate Sacrifice today......

Have a good one and prayers.

Good evening all,

Quiet day.  Watched Tottenham defeat Crystal Palace 1-0.  Went to see Lion King, Jr. tonight at local junior high as some of the soccer kids were in it.  Good show.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Hello there,

really cold and windy here today. A couple more days like this and I may be able to get into the yard.

Not much going on today,  Took Mrs for a mammogram, stopped for breakfast, looked for a craft show we didn't find, stopped for a few groceries a few minutes with Mom and home before lunch. Did a few things around the house and it was time to head to Mass.

WOW!!!!!..those fires in California must be something. Gotta wonder. The way California legislates everything why they haven't legislated fire resistant houses. Especially when building in a forest.

Bed is calling.

Prayers for those in need

Evening,  Thought I would provide a fire update....

As of an hour ago 70,000 acres burned/burning, 5% contained, 2 fatalities (found in their vehicle), over 174 homes lost so far, over 265,000 people evacuated!  A haze is hanging all over Los Angeles area east towards Palm Springs.  (We are close to the beach, and therefore don't have lingering smoke, but can smell it.)

Evacuated people probably wont get back home till Monday/Tuesday.  Lots and lots of issues, pets, horses.  Electricity/gas has been turned off in affected areas.  Water on a neighborhood basis.  (Some houses in Malibu burnes as a result of low water pressure.)  Most people don't have cell service, and traffic has been gridlocked for people trying to get out.  Really, really a super bad place to be!

Most of the houses are burned as a result of embers getting in vents/chimneys, then igniting.

Also found out our 2 nephews are actively fighting the fire.

Tomorrow (Sunday) is NOT going to be a good day.

Kev - that's a lot of deer corn!

Roy, it sounds like a lot but it is only 1 Folgers Coffee 30oz container a day if it is above 0, 2 if it is below 0. We can get upwards of 10 to 12 deer a day when it is real cold.

Evening folks!

Running about 15-20 degrees below normal here and continuing, with rain, early morning freezes, and (Kev - correction from my last post) possible SNOWHIZO just west of here! Does not warm up to just 10 degrees below normal until Thurs/Fri?

Had planned to go over to a friends house (with a lot of tools) and install a winch on son's Jeep today - but it was too cool/blustery out, so maybe next weekend. I have all the tools also but it was to be a fun event with some friends.

Ray - good to hear from you! Man that was an experience! Glad the knee is no worse for it!

Kev - that's a lot of deer corn!

Prayers for the folks in CA suffering from fires and the shooting Angel

Just cold here, and going to stay that way through the end of the month from the looks of things. Still way better than what is going on in California. WOW prayers for those folks. First the nut case in the bar and now the fires! Angel
8N, we have been blessed to be able to build and design two homes in our time. First was a replacement from a tornado and that was under stress but still rewarding. The second was on un-improved property and building out your vision is one of the most rewarding things I think a person can do in life. I knew what I wanted to do the first time I stepped on the land.  I could see it in my head.  Enjoy your dream. Yes We hunted for a place for seven years, then decided to go with bare land when we found our property on The North Bluff. Been here 14 years now. Big Smile
Chief, we go through 700+ pounds of deer corn a year. A wifey thing. Laugh
Not much going on in the train room but it will pick up with the holidays. Wink

We are spending some time in our 'other place.  We were planning on raking and burning leaves, but the weather does not look like it will cooperate.  Might be a window to get that done tomorrow and Monday, though.

We are planning on going to a train show tomorrow.  It is sponcered by a HO club, so I  don't know how much O gage stuff will be there.

We traveled by way of Ky. this trip.  My wife found listings for two 10 acre wodded lots near the 5 acres we already own there, so we took an extra day to go see them.  Turns out that the two plots are adjcent to each other and have a small stream running through them.  Building will be a challange, but as we re-think what we want to build, we are beginning to visualize some interesting possibilities.  When we go back to home base, we are planning on going by way of Ky. to take another look at the property.

Brought some bits and pieces of train stuff along to tinker with.  I'm wanting to add a track for the Polar Express Trolley to the PE layout, and want the trolley to pause at each end of its track.  Somebody mentioned using insulated outer rails on the mainline to start the trolley from each stop.  I'll play with that idea this week.

About all for now.

Morning All!

We had our first taste of snow yesterday. Thankfully it didn't stay. Not too much on the go. I might go and do round three of the leaves today. I love my trees 11 out of 12 months!! Every year I say I'm going to put in the gutter guards, but I never pull the trigger.

Prayers to the folks in California. Wow, there's always something...... Sad

Banks- I had a similar issue with my bearings on the van. One was shot and other side was fine. Weird....

Spank - If you're still checking in here, good luck this afternoon. Go Blue!!

Have a good one and prayers.

Good evening all, just checking in.  California got a double whammy lately with the shooting in Thousand Oaks followed by the big brush fire that is still going on.  I guess I was lucky with the voting.  I went to my regular polling place about 2:00PM and there was hardly anyone there.  Girl had trouble finding my name on the list but is was there all the time.  I finally got my "Real I.D." part of my drivers license done after three trips to the DMV.  First time I went, I didn't know anything about it.  Guess I should read the papers.  I pulled a dumb stunt today.  While out running errands, I could not get my car started.  I thought something was wrong with the ignition because it felt funny when I pulled the key out.  I did not have my cell phone with me so I caught a ride to the nearest place with a phone and called the auto club.  The guy came out and I tried to start the car when he noticed it was still in gear.  Duh! So after I put it back in Park, it started right away.  Not my day!  The ignition and the gear box must be interlocked somehow so that you have to be in Park to start the car. Duh!  I don't know how I was able to take the keys out without putting it in Park to begin with.  The whole thing was not my best performance.

We are having Santa Ana winds again along with the fires.  Wind blows a lot of leaves in my pool and dirt.  Be glad when it's over.

Still coping  with my arthritis in my knees but I am wearing a brace which helps a lot.  I had to get in this big AAA truck that came to start my car and I almost killed myself getting out of it because it is so high and has some wierd steps.  I twisted my bad knee and thought I did some permanent damage but it feels OK tonight.  I guess the brace saved me.

Need to get busy in my train room and start packing things up for protection except for ones I want to run.  They just sit around and collect dust.  Need to decide when to sell some stuff.

Ray

Evening all!

Sun came out today and low 50's. We will stay in 50's and high 40's until late next week, then back to 60's which is still 10 below normal.

Kev - No snowhizo Here!

Banks - can never predict with bearings anymore, China steel. Good luck on selling it!

Fife - I'm sorta happy there is not a well equipped toy train store close by!

Hello there,

another really soggy day. 42 degrees and rain most of the day. Had some sleet mixed in this morning. 2 inches in the rain guage this evening about dark.

Pulled the front wheels and brakes on the Blazer. Brakes are like new. The bad bearing is on the right. Same one I replaced a couple of years ago . Left one is smooth with 150k on it. Go figure.......

Kev.......did some research on KBB and similar sights as well as a couple of local classifieds. For it's age and  condition that's about what I hope to get for it,.

Ready to crash.

Mornin' boys.  Cool and damp along the Patterson Creek cut-off.  Wifey and I took a nice country drive to Winchester, VA, and did a little Christmas shopping at Mario's Trains.  In Ms. Kelly's words, "this is the most stocked train store you've taken me to."  2 showrooms, and a warehouse 5 minutes away.  Friendly, helpful staff, operating multi-scale layout, and mostly new products from Lionel, MTH, and Williams/Bachmann.  I encourage anyone traveling down I-81 in VA to stop on in.

Evening,

Not a good day for So. Calif, but the shooting this morning, then the major fire going on now.  Excessive high winds when it started this pm, in 1 1/2 hrs it went from 150 acres to 10,000!  Tonight it is suppose to be really bad.

Kev, would that have been in Stillman Valley?  They are always having weird stuff going on there!  I have relatives in that area.

Good evening,

Banks, that sounds a bit low for the Blazer??

Election drama from North Central IL.
This is about as good of drama as you can get out here, This place is about 15 miles south of here.
Why I love it out here!!!

I call these towns old farmer pocket towns. Where the old farmers moved to when they were to old to work the farm anymore. More in the graveyards than in the towns. Places like this all over around here.

Thinking of getting some Hens for us here,,,, Laugh

Hello there,

43 years ago today Mrs became Mrs.

Prayers for those affected by the craziness in California
Busy doing nuttin. Leaves are mostly down, to bad the yard is so soggy I'd get stuck trying to gather them up.

Started to get Mrs' Blazer ready to sell. It hasn't turned a wheel in almost a year. Jumped it the other day and moved it to the garage. It needs a new wheel bearing and I'm going to go over it to be sure it will pass inspection. The license is expired so can't get it inspected. The body is starting to show some rust but not bad for 18 years old. Probably going to list it for  $1,500. Hopefully get  $1,000.

Spent a couple hours yesterday and today getting equipment put away for the winter.

Voter turnout here was 55%.Usual turnout for a midterm is +/- 25%. Not thrilled with the results but it coulda been worse. Nuf said.

Off to bed soon

Prayers for those in need.
