sir james I

Good morning sleepy heads.

The EAGLE looks tall and proud.

S.J.

We always do. Thumbs Up Cool

Afternoon all.  Sunday School and then checked pond.  Walked in which is what I should not have done.  Soaked by the time I got back.  Found 4 wheeler invasion from path through the woods [been built before we took back over pond].  Will not get into the North South thing but you know what I mean.  Remember, when  we had the pond before, had trail camera photo of Dad helping kids get through cables.  Move here and think they own the whole world. Bang Head

Will now rest up.  Friend Fred in SC for a week so no help on patrolling pond.

Have a great week.

Good Afternoon All !

Back home and pooped. Drove up to Laguna Beach late yesterday morning for the wedding and as is normal much of I-5 was a parking lot. Stayed in a hotel at the beach and the wedding was late that afternoon on the beach at a private residence, the view was magnificent but 140 steps down to the beach and back had a lot of us oldsters stopping at a mid level deck for a breather. The "Father/Daughter Dance" was a great joy and honor to participate in, little did I think that almost 30 years ago when the holiday get-togethers started this would happen. However, the rest of the reception sure was different than all the others I've been to in the past. Let's just say all the 40 and unders really had a great time last nite, the dance floor was almost like a "mosh pit" with the bride and groom doing a little crowd surfing. Laugh All of the attendees were invited back to where the reception was held for a breakfast and goodbys as people were returning to homes all over the country. Back home and a short nap later feeling better.

Later All !

Aloha from the first day of fall. It got down to 40 last night. Fall is... fallen. The house painters are done and the weekend was spent putting everything back today - complete with lots of new accessories that need to be purchased. 'But what about all the older knickknacks and pictures and things in the basement?' I innocently asked... Tune in tomorrow for the answer that will not surprise you. Smile

Good afternoon all,

Went to the Dixeland Jazz Concert yesterday with my wife and it went very well.  My drummer friend in the band was playing his last regular gig with them.  He sang the last tune in the set called Melancholy Blues which was appropriate for him.  He got a little choked up but got through it.  We had a great time and sat with some other friends.

Went to siminar on living trust that lasted about two hours.  In the process of getting my own started now.

Saw the final segment of "The Roosevelts" on PBS this week end.  Very good program for all Americans.  Learned a few things I didn't know about FDR.  I read a book about FDR's last year which gave all the details about his final months in office.

later,

Ray

Evening all,

Cool today...summer is going out like a wimp!

A little birdie told me there are upgrades for Legacy.  That'll show you how little I've stayed in the loop over the past few years.  I must be the only Legacy owner who's still operating off of 1.0.  So I yanked it out of the panel and will ship it back to Lionel when convenient. In the meantime I reinstalled TMCC.  After relearning how to address and stuff I'm really not in any hurry to go back to Legacy.  Will probably leave TMCC where it is and save Legacy for the future attic layout.  Only issue I see is the lead foot ( or should I say lead finger ) feeling operating the TMCC throttle compared to Legacy.

Good evening,

We had a busy weekend running errands, doing chores, and going to the older son’s baseball games and I ran out of time to post.  We went to church yesterday; we are still searching for a new church home.  We are used to doing this since we move so often.  One of the big factors we look for now is what types of programs they have for kids.  Our older two kids are at a point where their opinions matter as much as my wife’s and mine.  I was able to enjoy some football on Sunday.  The weather is nice and cool in the mornings and in the lower 70s for the highs.  The wife is watching the season premiere of The Voice and I may do some layout planning before turning in for the night.

Good morning Chuck – Yes, we’re staying busy.

Don B. – That’s good news about you and Kay.

Good night,

Joe

A Mayor's ribbon cutting this afternoon.  This will be a short little thingy.  All I'm doing.  Nurse talked to me yesterday and said I was lucky I was not hospitalized.  Have to behave or else.

Hope all are doing OK.  Long chat with Shake and Bake.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill.......

I finally got into the Internet. It seems that the overload from all the Oil and Gas companies in this area have affected service. The provider is installing new equipment to handle the load.

Joe....I hope you get some time in the future to explore Ohio. The Amish country, north of you, has a lot of furniture makers and great restaurants.

Weather is nice today. Sunny and 70.

Y'all have a nice day.

Good afternoon all,

Kind of a lazy day today.  Had one slight problem.  Wife thought she might have taken an overdose of tylenol but couldn't remember for sure.  Had a talk with pharmacist and they said no problem as long as she doesn't take anymore today so now I am controlling her meds.  Have already been managing her presciption meds but let this one get by me.  Have to be more vigilant.

Started filling out preliminary paper work for lawyer who is doing our living trust.  Made a good start on it today.

Been listening to CD I bought at the Jazz concert of my friend's band.  Good stuff!

Hope Chief is doing OK with the RMSF.  Prayers.

Heard 611 restoration is about 45% complete.  Should be ready for service by the spring of next year.

Roofing project next door about 75% done.  Should finish by tomorrow and we can have some peace and quiet again.

later,

Ray

Good evening,

It’s quiet on here today.  We had more great weather today.  I had a productive day at work and completed many tasks.  We had leftovers for dinner: basically we used leftover meat sauce to make meatball subs.  It was quite tasty.  I didn’t get to any layout planning last night, but should tonight.

Chuck – Thanks for the information.  We plan to explore the many fun things to do here.

SP Ray – I’m glad your wife is okay.  I’m sure you were both a bit nervous.

Good night,

Joe

Rainy and chilly good morning.  Rain is good.  Radar showed good rain down east at farms [for food plots].  Fall is here finally.

Did ribbon cutting yesterday afternoon.  That was it.  Human Services Dept. Director came by last night with her special chicken soup.  Good.  We chatted a little business.  Nothing today unless new .17 WSM rifle comes in.  If so, go to store and pick up.  Suppose to have Human Services Board meeting tomorrow at 7 AM at town 30 miles south [Southern Regional Center].  Excused.

Glad to see Joe is back and settled.

Shake and Bake really taking the VA to the "cleaners".  Better hospital and service than here in NC.  Might fly out to LA and get their services.

Have a good one.

Evenin' boys.  Cloudy & 70 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Chief  is sending rain our way, but my lawn is already brown.  Attended my last yearly training this week, and even wore a Hawaiian shirt and straw hat to signify my impending exit.  Hopefully, gonna start house-hunting next month.  Wifey has narrowed it down to 30 that she likes. Good Evening,

This going along very well here.  Had a lot of Dr visits the past couple of days, but all were very good.

Visited the my leg surgeon, and progress is being made.  Have a new cast that is a little bigger than the previous one but not bad.  This one prevents any rotation type movement at the knee.  The cast that was initially applied after the last surgery, ended up causing a couple of blisters, that had to be treated.  The current cast will be on for at least 4 weeks.  Then will see what happens.

Also visited the VA, had a physical last Saturday!  I was very pleased with the Dr., was very thorough and easy to talk with.  Ironically had a physical with my family Dr., less than 6 weeks ago.  The VA physical was more thorough.  On Saturday the Dr. said I should see an Optometrist for an eye exam.  (I knew that was a possibility and intentionally waited to see what would happen, as opposed to scheduling an appointment on my own.  Especially since I do not have any vision insurance.)  So I agreed to the eye exam, he indicated he would have it scheduled.  MONDAY, I get a call from the Optometry Dept to schedule an appointment !  The soonest they could get me in was TUESDAY !  Went in had the exam, which was over an hour long, and ended with a new prescription and glassed ordered.  Compliments of the VA !  And these aren't the awful glasses that the military provided.  These are Titanium frames and quite stylish.  The Optometrist was quite adamant to make sure I came for an exam annually.

Then, as we had extra time after the eye exam, went over to talk with the AmVets representative on site.  (They coordinate the application process for filing for a claim.)  Here again, we are either extremely lucky or something, but no wait time, and great service !  He had me fill out a couple of forms in draft mode, as he keyed the info in a computer.  Asked me about various conditions, like Diabetes, (yes), cancers (no), hearing (?).  So what happened is since I have Type II Diabetes and was in Viet Nam, AUTOMATICALLY QUALIFIED, for a disability award.  Then last year I had a hearing test done by the VA, and it identified I had a hearing deficiency at the same frequency range of women's voices!  (Honest !)  Asked if I worked in a high noise environment, Yep, on the flight line with active jet fighters, and necessary ground support equipment.  Boom!  Qualified!  So no telling what it may yield but it is definitely worth it.  May be only $10 or $15/month for the rest of my life, but what the heck.  AND, regardless of how long it takes to process it is retro-active to the date of application.

Bottom line is I am hoping if any of you are Vets, and have not contacted the VA, do so.  Everything I have done can be done on-line, and documents from YOUR personal Dr. will suffice.

On the train scene,

Got a couple of ER upgrade kits that I'm going to install in some K-Line switchers.  Looking forward to the task.  Been awhile since I done that.

Then, another situation developing.  A friend of mine that I worked with building a O scale layout for a Dr., a few years ago called me.  He has a company that builds layouts.  Has done quite a few covering N, HO, & O scales.  Anyway this large company has had a layout built in the Boston area, and it has been moved out here to a different office.  My friend has bid on the maintenance contract for the layout, and he won it !  "Lloyd" is a great carpenter, but not very deep with electronics.  So he wants me to be "his guy" for electronic support.  Now this layout is HO, estimated value between $80k-$100k, and is DCC.  Now if that isn't enough, the DCC is based upon a German Software product.  (TrainController).  So, going with him tomorrow am, to check out the layout and get an idea of what is going to be necessary.   I do know they want some way of automatically starting the system up and shuting it down on a daily basis.   (This may be a income opportunity.)  What is going to be a real challenge is,      I know NOTHING about HO or DCC and this other software.  Did look them and their product up on the web, they provide manuals and stuff for free download.  So, can see where I could have a path to learn from.  Didn't see ANY U.S. representatives, and only a few U.S. installed systems.  But seems really big in Europe.  At this point I have nothing to loose so will go and see what it is about.

So that's all I got for now, remember Stay Healthy!!

Good evening,

Today was a fun day.  The morning work schedule was light and then we had an office golf outing this afternoon.  We played nine holes and had a great time.  I am not a good golfer, but it beats being in the office all day.  The weather was perfect and I was home by 16:30.  The wife made a pumpkin curry soup for dinner and it was delicious.  It’s about bedtime now.

Good morning Chuck.

Fife – Just 30, you’ll be making an offer before you know it. Smile, Wink & Grin

Don B. – I’m glad you’re getting great service at the VA.

I hope you all have a great night,

Cloudy and misty good morning.  Suppose to clear out.  Sending rains north to Fifey to wash out the yatchet's bilge.  Always wanting to help.

Good luck Ray with the procedure.  Prayers.

Shake and Bake taking VA for a "ride". Whistling  About time the VA stepped up to the "plate".  Ours here seems to be a pain in the ___.

Have a good one.

PS: advice given by someone on another thread:

"I would suggest you lube it with motor oil for everything.  The grease supplied with the loco will likely turnto concrete in a short time.  Motor oil never dries out or gets sticky.  Lionel Lube is one of the worst.  It turns into concrete in a few years.  Don't use 3 in 1 oil, light machine oil, sewing machine oil, lithium grease, most greases, etc.  I have used motor oil for almost 60 years with good results."

Well think I hear the breakfast bell ringing so need to get moving.

Yea I read that guys statement. Did not comment back. 30w motor oil is fine but Lionel trains have been running with Lubes for over a hundred years...Nuff said about that.

Sunny and 70s all week. Finally....no rain for awhile.

Good morning all,

Sitting here listening to music from the roaring twenties and flapper era that I have on CD.  Feel like I'm in a time warp.  Entertaining stuff with the  likes of Paul Whiteman, Bix Beiderbecke et al.

Don, glad you are getting such good treatement from the VA.  My son works at the VA at their West L.A. Campus.  I'm sure he will be glad to hear some positive feedback.  Your opportunity to get into DCC sounds challenging but I'm sure you'll figure it out.  Don, did you already know you had type II diabetes or did they just diagnose it?  I just found out I had it recently.  So far just diet and excercise recommended.

Dinner out last night at Mexican restaurant near us.  Ate too much.  Back on diet today.

My friend Larry says they are going on a group trip with local senior center to New Mexico and Arizona.  Hope it's in the Winter.  Other than the Grand Canyon, don't remember much in that neck of the woods.

later,

Ray

I will have to get back to a bit of radio repair before I leave for Hershey.  I have a few desirable auto related radios that I'm sure will sell well there.  Just love lightening the wallets of Americans.Pirate

After some running of the layout on TMCC there's really no substitute for Legacy.  The low speed ability in Legacy is sorely missed.  Will ship out mine for the upgrades ASAP.
