Crescent hit an apparent suicide near Salisbury. NC. Report states third train incident in a month. What is it about NC ? Seems more than its share of incidents.

Not exactly a trespasser but a curious situation just the same...

It will be interesting to see how this plays out!

Guess Momma actually got thrown from the train....
Never too old to have a happy childhood!
Here's another case where Rosie allegedly jumped from the train!
http://fox2now.com/2014/06/15/passenger-that-jumped-or-fell-off-amtrak-train-found/
Train crews found a step box and an open vestibule window on the Texas Eagle. Was she thinking it was an upper berth? Rosie survived. I'd like to know if she ever explained her reason for getting off the train without the convenience of a platform — or even a stop!
Poor Owen... Ed
No links but very bad day Tuesday in the bay area. San Jose VAT hit someone, Caltrain hit someone,Capital corridor hit vehicle delays into this morning, ACE hit auto and had a 14 car combined train, and BART hit someone at believe at San Bruno station.
Did not leave anyone out except MUNI ?
One hundred years ago, something like 5,000 tresspassers a year were killed on RR property.
Amtrak's southbound Vermonter 57 hit a pedestrian early Sunday afternoon November 1 in Brattleboro VT. Two people were reported to have been on the tracks. A 26 year old male was reported to have been killed.
On Sunday, a woman was killed by the Cyuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad's excursion train at the Route 303 crossing in Peninsula, Ohio. Accounts that I have seen were inconsistent, but it appears that she was involved in trying to break up some sort of altercation, and was distracted.
I have heard that there were at least two other fatal accidents involving persons or vehicles on railroad tracks in the Cleveland area during that weekend, but have no details.

The woman struck was 'hearing impaired' but 'officials' don't think that had a causitive effect??????????????
New Jersey Transit's got another one, a tresspasser struck and killed on the tracks in Paterson around 5:00 PM yesterday.
It's ironic: There was a massive uptick in pedestrian strikes by trains in NJ several years ago so NJ Transit started a safety outreach programs in the schools and to the general public. It worked, accidental strikes went down to almost nothing. Perversely, suicides went UP.
NJT seems to average at least one strike a month.
avonlea22I just don't understand all of these people getting hit by trains. I grew up along the NEC and used to walk along the tracks to school (this was early 80's) and never once did I not hear a train coming. Even today, trains make noise. How can you not hear it?
I-Pod and ear buds - and under the right conditions a train can be virtually silent even without those distractions.
Electrics, especially MU cars, can be surprisingly quiet. The lack of engine noise will let them sneak up on you, even if you are aware of your location.

I've lost track of how many i-pod and i-phone zombies I've avoided hitting with my car over the past few years. I even saved a young woman i-phone user from being squashed at a crosswalk weeks back. "HOLD IT!" I shouted as she was about to walk into traffic.
Just unbelieveable.
Running club goes around freight train's gates before they rise with one runner getting hit by Amtrak coming other way..

New Jersey Transit got another one in Paterson today, a 32 year old male found on the tracks. Kind of a paucity of information in both on-line articles I've read about it but one shows an investigating officer on a NJT rail bridge. I suspect the victim may have been taking a short-cut across the bridge, it's happened before, easier than going down one hill and up the other.
The strange thing is, this time they're not sure which train hit him.

Again! today a kid 18 on a bridge over the White River.

One of the two young men struck on the "Woodstock Bridge" was either thrown or jumped from the forty foot high bridge and was killed, the other was seriously injured and flown by helicopter to the nearby trauma center. The bridge does not have any easy access from nearby roads. 55 was released after a three hour delay. Both trespassers were under 20.
And another one on NJ Transit, 11:30 PM Friday, a 25 year old male tresspasser on the tracks near the Rahway station. Suicide by train? A short-cutter? Who knows?

EDIT--May have been an Amtrak employee. Unconfirmed report says NJT running wrong way on westbound track ? ?
Amtrak confirms it was an MOW employee hit by an NJ transit train.
Remember that Amtrak owns the Corridor, so even if the 'employee' were a contract worker that would be reported as an 'Amtrak employee' if the newsworker involved didn't care about the semantic difference between passenger-train personnel and track maintenance personnel, or didn't think to wonder about it.'
Very ugly --- train 172 hit passenger who did not use underpass. High speed train left flesh and bones on multiple cars that drivers could not use. Imagine driving your car after that ? Had to hose down cars and station.

Yuck! Double-yuck! Can you imagine what those commuters had to say, getting to the station and finding their cars impounded, and the reason why?
I'll bet even HBO wouldn't broadcast the comments.
I feel for the Engineer who can't do anything but see it happen.
The crude thing to say is that the poor man doesn't have the guts to do it again. Sorry. Or as I've heard some say, Its culling the herd.
Electroliner, that "guts" comment reminds me of what 'Mater said in the last scene of "Cars"...
"WHOOO-WEEE! Ah'm as happy as a tornado in a trailer park!"
Perfect definition of a a sick joke, you can't help but laugh at it, then you're ashamed of yourself for laughing!
