I doubt rights issues are involved; NS has both NYC and PRR "heritage" units, after all. If the "rights" were allocated PRR-NS/NYC-CSX, that wouldn't be the case.

Agreed. I wanted to like these, but I'm just not feeling it. I get what they're trying to go for, but it just doesn't really excite me. But hey, lots of other HUs to fan from other railroads.

You should come over to Chicago.  Metra has four Heritage units (C&NW, MILW, CB&Q and RI), each running on their respective routes.  Iowa Interstate has two distince Rock Island Heritage units.
The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul

22 days to do a paint job.

And they still only did the back 2/3 of the loco.

The whole engine got painted - not just the NYC portion.

Maybe it will work its way to Cartersville and the locals will give it the 20th Century Limited Hudson treatment on its lead end.

LOL! Well played, Balt! Well played indeed! Double LOL!

The CSX Heritage fleet falls somewhere between UP and NS but a little closer to NS.  I would give them credit for being distinctive.

I like them better than BNSF's "Sticker" bonnets

CSX not doing the nose of their heritage units is poor IMO.  The ACL purple people eater noses were very unique as one example.

CSX is staying consistent with their 'theme' across all their heritage units.

So the elves weren't toiling away on Christmas Eve shooting another coat of candy apple red on the sleigh?

Wait till Santa finds out!

So where's the Reading Lines? A significant part of the route to Jersey.

It's a mashup with an Easter egg. Their Alco FAs had a similar lettering size and placement. The font is called "Grand Central" and is based on the signage at Grand Central Terminal.

My only complaint is that the NYC's lettering standards got lost in the transitions fron NYC to PC to ConRail to CSX.

As a concept piece the hi-lo mix works pretty well. They probably should have cut the long hood paint at the cab, but I get trying to symbolize transition.

Since prototypical accuracy isn't really the goal (and all of their "honoring" units), maybe they could mash up a paint scheme for a historical never diesel road. That Big 4 cross would look good.

Or how about the P&E logo on a PC or NYC unit?

It also looks like CSX6394 may have gotten a RF&P nose job by someone

1869 finally made it to Cumberland, and I'm a fan...

CSX probably left the spraygun loaded when they shot the 1982, which was leading symbol I015 in Cumberland, yesterday. I think the fade works on the L&N and Seaboard units.

Somebody had a bit of skill and had to work fast to produce this unofficial Chessie The Cat heritage unit:

And of course, this is probably close to what a B&O F40PH-2 would have looked like:

The irony of the the Chessie cat is that it made its debut in the middle of ACL/SAL territory
