There can be beneficial vandalism

Never too old to have a happy childhood!
Maybe it is a "what if" the C&O became part of Penn Central?
BaltACDAt least it was authentic to the spirt of heritage units.
It's been fun. But it isn't much fun anymore. Signing off for now.
The opinions expressed here represent my own and not those of my employer, any other railroad, company, or person.t fun any
zugmann BaltACD Maybe it can work its way to Cartersville, GA and get an attack of beneficial vandalism. That foamer vandalism crap was just as bad as the black spray paint on the nose of the C&O engine.

Okay, so this is not a CSX heritage unit but if you squint real hard and turn your head sideways it could be.

LOL! Got me! At least it did not hurt to take the hook out of mouth! My compliments to the artiste!
kgbw49 Hmmm, I wonder why they did not go for 1968 for Penn Central as rdamon suggests? Here is an article by the great Don Phillips summarizing the proposed Conrail split between NS and CSX. https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/business/1997/03/05/conrail-merger-map-shows-proposed-lines-of-competition/b37ee266-1198-4542-9402-3ea02a92b569/

The PC photo above looks like the work of MS Paint. :)
His look so much nicer. At least he painted the entire locomotive with the heritage scheme. I can respect the symbolism CSX was trying for, but the execution of it just gives the locomotives an unfinished appearance. I agree with everyone who says the WM unit is actually the Texas flag unit.
maybe if the cab and nose were the CSX pattern, but in the same colors as the heritage scheme?
Your friendly neighborhood CNW fan.
A few years ago railroad artist Andy Fletcher, who had worked on the Norfolk Southern heritage units, came up with a slate of proposed CSX heritage units.
CSX is doing their own versions of course, but so far Mr. Fletcher's proposed slate has seen a number of proposed heritage units from that slate roll out of the paint booth at Waycross.
Here is a link to Mr. Fletcher's work.

Conrail got 1976
kgbw491997 was the year CSX and NS agreed to acquire Conrail through a joint stock purchase.
Which would be good for a ConRail unit - but not a PC
1997 was the year CSX and NS agreed to acquire Conrail through a joint stock purchase.
CSX owns 42% of that Penn Central paint - NS owns 58% of that Penn Central paint. (Note tongue in cheek.)
rdamonShouldn't that be road number 1968?
That could be the year that ConRail paid off all PC's debts through bankruptcy courts, with ConRail becoming solvent at that time.
The Western Maryland one doesn't quite do it for me. While I'd of course prefer to see them go all the way with these, the blend job manages to work for most of what they've done in my eyes. But it's not quite there with this one.
Shouldn't that be road number 1968?
Penn Central heritage
Just released heritage unit 1852 honoring the Western Maryland
CSSHEGEWISCH Lord Atmo Agreed. I wanted to like these, but I'm just not feeling it. I get what they're trying to go for, but it just doesn't really excite me. But hey, lots of other HUs to fan from other railroads. You should come over to Chicago. Metra has four Heritage units (C&NW, MILW, CB&Q and RI), each running on their respective routes. Iowa Interstate has two distince Rock Island Heritage units.

I definitely need to spend more time around Metra when I'm down there. I make a handful of Chicago trips each year too! I just usually spend most of my time at IRM because of CNW 7009. But thanks for reminding me to head downtown more often!
This pair showed up in Cumberland yesterday, on CSX M216. It was 1897's first trip thru here, but not sure if same for 1853...
Heritage Units in Cumberland! CSX 1897 MONON & CSX 1853 NYC - YouTube
BaltACD - I agree with you on the dual-scheme MONON thing.
Trackside, the MONON striping appears slightly more gold then the side sill striping. But the NYC unit looks quite sharp, in person.
Overmod BaltACD Personally, for the Monon it should be black and gold on one side and crimson and white on the other as the Monon paid tribute to both Purdue University and Indiana University with the paint schemes for their equipment. But it's a freight engine. Wasn't the red for passenger?

It started out that way, although the passenger colors with that wide gray stripe made it look more like Ohio State than Indiana. I can recall what was left of the "Thoroughbred" in black and gold pulled by an RS2 or C420.

Part of the Monon is being revived and rebuilt by NICTD between State Line and Dyer. An interesting turn of events for those who remember that Monon bid on South Shore in the early 1960's, only to be outbid by C&O.
