Awesome!

BNSFwatcher

I don't think the BNSF 1205 qualifies as 'ugly'.  It looks like a modern, higher-horsepower, ALCO S-4.  Rather neat!

It won't smoke like the real ALCOWhistling

aah -- but it can be a wannabe ALCO-Big Smile

Awesome!

Let's be serious this has to be a ugly box and the color as well.

This poor thing is a brick. Who mistreated this poor misbegotten soul?

Is this all NS could come up with for their R&D people?

This is a new tram used in London.  It is designed to scare terrorists off the streets.

I think that'd scare ANYONE off the streets.  I know I'd start running if I was being chased by a gigantic pig down the street.

Its the "Pork Barrel Unlimited"!  Coming soon to Chicago, then the rest of Illinois, California, and the District of Columbia.  Other visits pending.  Maybe even Florida.

Do not forget that not only Union Pacific rostered these monsters, but Southern Pacific as well had a stable of them also:

You know, now that I think about it, I don't really think it's quite fair to really call any locomotive "ugly," regardless of what it is.  Sure, we've seen some pretty unusual things on this thread. "Odd" or "unusual" according to American standards of what a locomotive "should look like?"  Yes.  "Ugly?"  Not really.  I'm sure people in some other countries think our locomotives are ugly.  Aesthetics may not matter to locomotive designers overseas so much as performance quality of the locomotive.  Plus, compared to some of the high speed trains around the world, our passenger trains look pretty old-fashioned, if you think about it.lol

You have a point but keep in mind we are only talking about those units that we could say, "ugly" in our present. Everyone is going to have their own opinion on likes or dislikes.

That's not too bad - looks like an Alco FA with the nose smoothed off - a bit more aesthetically pleasing than the original.

Awesome!

Another Ugly Unit!Banged Head

this one is australian it is a rebuild from an old English electric loco and they now are based in Tasmania

The rebuild was carried out by Morrison-Knudsen and no Australian was responsible for what they looked like. In fact, NREC took over the ownership of the design and have built locomotives for use in Africa to the same design. I think two of these ended up in Africa, as did two with normal low noses rebuilt by others.

When these were built, in Australia, they had a high short hood and looked quite normal, and I assembled a few of them myself.

Four of the rebuilds spent a couple of years on the metre gauge in Malaysia, where they worked the top passenger trains with few problems.
