Why do I get the feeling that I should've brought my tin boots?
Oatmeal sounds good for a gray, rainy day. It is too bad that there are no BNSF lines near me, I actually think overcast light brings out the orange better than direct sunlight.
Man, what a week it's been......
After a week off last week, it was back to the grind this week, and to start it off, we started UPS trailers. Right now I feel like I got ran over by those trailers. And to top it off, we ran only one line last night, as the UPS line was about three to four days behind in production.
Had a good time on my week off, though, which included a few trips on Metra into Chicagoland. Stopped in LaGrange and got a few shots, which are posted in Mark Hintz's Fuzzyworld 3um. Took a bunch around my hometown, as well, have yet to get to the photo processing on them, though.
Grilled fish? //ZING!!// I'm there!!
See everyone later....

Yes I did, Joe, and that is the only way to fly on the weekends, five dollars for the four trains I rode on Saturday. Was packed, though, due to the St Patrick's Day festivities, we were full in each direction. Metra should think about expanding their weekend service, it's great for a day or two in the Chicago area.
how about some more fish?real tasty today and I like the coleslaw too.the maumee & western had a special delivery today.they got a new engine. while we were there CSX had a non stop with a stack train east and a up led powder river coal empty west. also we saw some gvsr ore jennies at omni source too! wish the water would shut off for awhile.
Fish, slaw, fries. I'm full!
Hopefully work will be a little less zoo-like next week. At least I have a three day weekend (it's my regular work schedule).
I'll miss pizza night tomorrow - another fire department banquet....
Got an email from the trainmaster - rules classes at the beginning of May. Won't be long and we'll be running trains!

Crawling out of the trenches and taking tomorrow off from getting vast sums of money from the government for my select clientéle. I will be at Lake Forest College for the annual program of the Center for Railroad Photography & Art. An interesting day of presentations by some of the top people in the field and a chance to see many friends who share my interest on the topic.
I was going to see if the DD&CS could cater the affair, but there might be contracts and unions to deal with, besides our cook and crew already work to hard.
Enjoy the weekend.

Far, Far away in a land that no way looks like Texas, one woman wonders, what fun it would be to be at Lake Forest tomorrow. I don't know if many of you have met Jay, but he is truly one of the nicest people I've ever met. And as far as that annual program presented by the Center for Railroad Photography and Art, it is class 1 all the way. A lot of the people involved in this conference got their start being published in TRAINS. Check it out. http://www.railphoto-art.org/
I hope this doesn't violate any forum policy, but this is a non-profit entity that celebrates and seeks to elevate the photographer who has railroads and railroaders as his/her focus.
Enjoy the day, Jay.

I wouldn't be too sure about the rest of it but you do have the part about the Center correct. And I will enjoy the day.
Tina,
One of these days, if you guys are as smart as I know you are, you can carve GTT on your door post and head back home.
The door is always open, and we'll leave a light on......

Oh Ed,
Just today I was looking at ropers and Lucchase boots and was instantly transported to the land of wide open spaces, FAA shows and pick-up trucks with rifle racks against the back window for the fishing poles. I noticed on this boot website the current shirts being available to purchase for showing. My children showed sheep and hogs. Getting rightly dressed for "show" was almost as important as having your animal look its best. At least for my daughters; a little glitter in her hair, a little glitter on the lamb.
I passed a funeral possession today and pulled over. I was promptly passed. That bugged me. You can the girl out of Texas (I claim it as home,) but you can't take the Texas out of the girl. GTT- like some dream where Cowbows ride into the sunset with their girl and live happily ever after..wait, maybe the cowboy rode off with his girl to another state and the story still has a happy ending. I guess it isn't too bad. I have my cowboy, worn out boots and all.
Been wanting to go two-steppin. Tried to teach that cowboy of mine and he's good. Now to explain why that leg of mine is swelling again. Swells everytime I try to be active. But I can't sit still when there is a good country song on.
So, everyone here in the diner, I'm putting music in the jukebox, (do we have one?) and courtesy of John Michael Montgomery, here's one of my favorites.
Boy am I glad this week is over. I havn't stopped by the diner because I have been going to school then sports practice then another sports practice and then going home to study for tests and work on presentations for school. All this left me with out any time for the diner. Now I need some . At least I did well at my track meet yesterday, I got first in the discus and second in the shotput. Thanks for the fish CW, it is nice to come back here and read up on the goings on in the diner. Maybe next week won't be so hectic. Tomorrow I am spending all day judging 4-H public presentations then on Sunday I have sports practice again, but hopefully I will be able to stop and look for some trains on the way. If I see anything interesting I will stop in and tell everyone. Hope you all have a good weekend.

Congrats on the first and second places. My youngest daughter used to throw those heavy objects. Again, congrats.
Does it ever not rain here?
juice coffee and rolls are ready to go.need a place to see trains and stay dry.tower A and CUT come to mind.mattmobile is loaded and we are ready to go.
Good Saturday morning! Joe, thanks for putting on the coffee, making fresh juice, and thanks for the rolls this morning.
I believe that you should be very dry while you're at Tower A and CUT today. Enjoy your time there, and HAVE FUN!! Look a little towards the southwest, and yell "Hello Louisville!!"
Willy
Congrats on shot and disc Emma. I played with those implements of destruction back in HS and that was a blast!
Willy I hope the weather holds (read that either way!) for your convention. I'm sure you guys wouldn't mind too much a live example of what's being talked about...within reason.
Off to the jewelry store today...going to buy a certain sparkly ring for a finger on the left hand...
Dan
STarted out nice this morning, then Mother Nature (or was that Willy's machine?) decided we needed a quarter inch of rain. It's stopped now.
Emma - Nice show on your events! I ran track and cross country in high school. One track event that was part novelty, part serious, was the shot put relay - essentially a half mile relay (800 meters) run by shot putters carrying shot puts instead of batons. I helped them with handoff practice once - not as easy as it might sound....
Off to dinner with a neighboring FD...
Hi everybody, back from a little bit of railfanning, and getting ready to go out to eat. But first, I wanted to post the SATURDAY NIGHT PIZZA FEST menu:
1. anchovie
2. cheese
3. Hawaiian
4. Pepperoni/sausage/mushroom
5. Goetta
6. Supreme
Desserts: apple pie, peach pie, and strawberry, chocolate, vanilla milk shakes.
Message From:The Cook
I will take a whole Hawaiian pizza, please! Mmmmmmmmm...
I did some biking today and mosyed around the old IC line through Champaign. I found a really nice place where a parking lot sits right up against a siding (3' off the edge of the tie). You can see from the Amtrak station to the north all the way to the south of town off towards Tolono. It is too bad there aren't more trains per day on that line.
.....66 degrees as we near sundown. Partly cloudy...Finally, not raining and kinda nice. Woe for people here in Indiana in low lying locations. We have had a lot of rain and river is over banks and into the flood plain most places.
Upcoming week forecast is for 5 days of hi temps of 78 degrees and just a chance of rain each day. Bushes and some some trees are now ready to sprout out green. My lawn will have to be mowed this coming week.
Winter has gone....{might not be quite dead, but for now, gone...}.
Rare we have any bad Winter consequences this late in the season.
But with wild weather swings now happening everywhere one never knows.
If we can stay away from the wild Spring nasty weather this is my favorite time of the year upcoming into the real Springtime....

Excellent day, today. We did experience some pretty heavy rain on Intersate 80 between Omaha and Lincoln, but things cleared out about the time we reached the symposium. There were some excellent presentations and also some very exciting storm chase videos from 2006. One presentation was on climate change and another on winter storms. There were also several others that I enjoyed.
We left the symposium at about 1:30 and spent a little over an hour with Mookie and The Driver at Camp Mookie. Five trains wenty by: four were coal and one was a manifest. Finally, we had a very nice dinner.
Overall, today was a very enjoyable day. It's too bad more days can't be this much fun.
