Speaking of bloody noses, I cought this one last night. (now owned by NREX# 8250 SD40T-2)

Did SP own any new SD40-2s?  I don't mean ones rebuilt to -2 standards or tunnel motors.  I am under the impression that all of the ones considered -2 (non-tunnel) were rebuilt from other units they weren't EMD built-as SD40-2.  Is this correct?

I think that SP only bought Tunnel Motors during the Dash Two era.  I don't remember ever seeing an SD40-2 ever delivered new to SP.

They had lots of tunnel motors, however.

Correct, SP never bought any SD40-2s, new or used. In their roster they call the SD40Rs SD40-2s, at least in the one I have.

SP's 7300 class SD40-2 units are/were units that started as SD40s and were rebuilt to Dash Two in '79-'80 at the Sacramento shop.  These were classed as SD40Es though (E for enhanced, like the e in SD70ACe), some people referred to them as SD40Rs.  The 1994 MK Rail rebuilds were classed as SD40-2Rs.  Some of these actually were delivered as Dash Twos.

     I recently read an article ablout the Lucien Cutoff in an old Trains Mgazine.  For the life of me, I though the cutoff was on UP, but the article showed it being re-built by SP.  Was it built by Harriman when he owned both UP and SP?

I just Googled "Lucien Cutoff" and clicked on the third one under "http://historytogo.utah.gov/utah_charters/statehood_and_the_progressive_era/thelucincutoff.html" has a lot of info.
It sounds, to me, as if Harriman had it done unde the SP in 1906.
I know MK did the rebuilding work later on, but can't remember when. One of our club members had a video, I think was called, Mariners in hard hats that documented its rebuilding.

Wouldn't surprise me if MK did work on it.  Much of the eastern end of the Phoenix Line, from McQueen to Coolidge, was built by MK in the 50s.  In fact, the MK built portion is the only part of the Phoenix Line that uses CWR.  MK was a busy company, having also built the Hoover Dam.
