I think, for once, the title says it all...thought it would be nice to have a single post, rather than ten or so, about this on each board.

Things that should be fixed ?

1- The Enter key should not double space.

2-A member search like the old forum would be better.

3- An advanced search for older threads is needed.

4- FAQ should describe how to do things.

5-The banner across the top takes too long to download to be on every page.

I noticed a problem this morning- the forum seems to have the hiccups.  Currently there is a duplicated thread dealing with Railroading's heydey, IIRC; after browsing through one of the duplicates, BOTH indicated that I had read them.  Within that (those) thread(s), many of the posts were duplicated.  Weird!

I've noitced that the search is worse than on the old forum. I searched for my topic on CGW SD40s and it said no results- then I went thru 10 pages of the forum and found it.

also, when I edited the last post it doesn't appear to have "bumped" the topic.

And, the highlight doesn't appear to work. EDIT- nope- it just makes the text bigger.

I am not able to get links to work. I have done a cut & paste
with keyboard shortcuts (Mac). It worked on the old forum.
I have tried using urls <a href="" target="_blank" title=""></a>. It will link in the preview
but not in the post.
What am I doing incorrectly in the new forum?

My computer will not read a link unless I activate it in edit mode.

If you mean masked links, you print what you want to show and highlight it with your curser.

Then click on that lime with the piece of chain above the edit/post box and insert the url into the box.

Matt, you have this in the MR forum as well, maybe best to have it all in one place?  Maybe just link to one topic from all the forums.

Looks like we are getting a good cross-pollination of thoughts and it would be a shame if the powers that be missed some Wink [;)]

FWIW, I consider this change to be one of the "improvements" over the old style. I pray to Bergie that he leaves this the way it currently is, and not change it.

In the old forum I could highlight the url and copy it to the
clipboard, then paste it into my post and the link worked.
I see no piece of chain above the edit/post box. Any other
suggestions? I am using a Mac on OS10. Everything works
in preview but not when posted, including "quotes".
Thanks

Chuck, beneath the "subject" line, beneath the "Message" line is a line that begins B I  U

On the far right side
of that line is a picture of a globe with a chain and next to that is a picture of  an eraser.

Hold your mouse cursor over the globe with chain and a message saying "create link" should pop up.

I have to agree also, and would add:

6.) Not all of us are as computer literate, and the FAQ is

really better if written at a level that can be

understood by those of us who are not quite as

knowledgeable as the computer dudes [or dudettes]

that have upgraded the Forum we also enjoy.

7.)  And also, please address the issue we have with adding

links to posts. Simple "how to" instructions, Please!

8.)  Absolutely! What Naniamo73 said:

" The Enter key should not double space."

My My 2 cents [2c]

Exactly!! If someone thinks a post needs to be manipulated to the top, let them go on record each time they make that little effort, instead of their little hidey "add a period-subtract a period" gamez

AntiGates,
I don't get any anything beneath the "subject" or
"message" lines, nor any globe & chain when I try to
make a new post. I appreciate your help, thanks.

The red links in the old forum stand out better than the dark blue ones now. The old links could be underlined to make them stand out more and remain that way. New links can't be underlined.

When using a link from the old forum on this forum, you remain on this forum and on the link, and could just exit the link when done. New links when used take you off of the forum so you have to back up back onto the forum.

It would be easier to do things if you could copy while in the post/edit/quote box.

I would like to see the Thread Page values

<BLOCKQUOTE><table class="quoteOuterTable"><tr><td class="quoteTable"><table width="100%"><tr><td width="100%" valign="top" class="txt4"> Page 1 of 616 (15,381 items) 1 2 3 4 5 > ... Last » </td></tr></table></td></tr></table></BLOCKQUOTE>

At the top of each page, as well as the bottom.

Additionally....when posts are diplayed in 'PREVIEW'.....they should display the same way in the forum.....this one is not displaying correctly in this forum with all the garbage surrounding my quoted element.

Never too old to have a happy childhood!

Chuck, try this:

Select "quote" instead of "reply" on the right hand side of this message's header

It should bring up a window similar to the following:

The red arrow in the above drawing points directly to the 'globe and chain' link making control button.

You should be able to find one in yours too, but be sure to select 'quote' not "reply"
the tool bar is only shown if you select 'quote' (don't ask me why. that makes no sense at all, but that is the way it is)

OK?  lemme know

AntiGates, Chuck and I, along with many others i suspect, dont have ANY options to post. All we get is a box to type in, the subject line, and the post button. NOTHING!!!!! Bergie, this forum doesnt like to do the same for every user..........

AntiGates, Thanks for your help with this. I get nothing under
the "message" line but the blank box to type in a message no
matter what I do. No font options, no smiley options, and no
panel that your red arrow points to. No Nothing. I appreciate
the effort you are making to help me out. I'm not very impressed with the new forum just yet...

ALL in ALL, I'm reasonable satisfied with the new set up.

Fresh new look,  Some of the idiosyncracies of the old forum are gone, the web cam now works for me,...and really long posts now get their own dedicated scroll bar, which is cool, but I'll bet that functionality is somehow to blame for the "grey box" syndrome I experienced on the one thread mentioned earlier.

Other than that, I'd say my only gripe is that when trying to highlight text and copy it to my clipboard, for some reason the right click menu no longer works unless I am in "edit" or "compose" modes for that particular post. If I want to copy text from one post for use in another,  I have to lumber up to my browsers "edit" menu and select the copy and paste functions from up there, or place both posts in "reply". mode. This latter option sure is awkward

Big surprise because copy and paste are available as options in the right click menu full time, elsewhere, just as it always has been, but no longer from here, since the change.

If that is 'fixable', (Bergie) fixing it sure would be appreciated from here.

(edited to reflect new findings about the "copy" function's behavior.)

When I use 'reply' with IE 7 I do not get the 'Editing Tool Bar' to set the font and color etc.  When I use Firefox I do get the 'Tool Bar'.
