I just had a glance at it Brian and it worked fine. I won't be able to check the links for a few days.

If anyone wants to post links that are always underlined, like we could do in the old forum, copy the above links and change them to suit. These would also keep you on the forum when you go through them, while new links take you off the forum.Disapprove [V]

nanaimo73 and Bergie, you might want to take a look at the Iowa's Counties thread in the Trackside Guides- I've tried a couple of times now to scroll down to my county (Linn), but can't get past Blackhawk, the text starts repeating itself at that point.  Very weird.

Lynn, the smileys posted in the new forum work, and those from the old forum should be the ones you see in text.Smile [:)]

For your links to work, go to your Update Profile and put your curser against the back of each link and hit the spacebar. Make sure they turn blue.

Well couple things I would like to see the smileys as smilies and not text. Also I was wandering why in my signature my link doesn't show as a link but only text?Other than that I like it .

Pictures work the same as they did in the old forum:  The image has to be hosted on a website somewhere, then use the tags [ i m g ] and [ / i m g ] (minus the extra spacing).

This code:

The forums appear to be a standard version I have seen from the UK to the US.

My only gripe is that I can rearrange the sequence of posts in a thread, but not the sequence the forums are presented to me.  I post mainly in TRAINS Magazine forums, as, I believe, most people do.  Why not stick them on the top of the forums listing?

It would be nice to post pictures on the forums, too.  I know, it wasn't done on the old forums either.  Still, I've noticed some folks able to do it now... and they appear to have PhD's in IT.

Thanks, Bergie, for all the hard work.  I owe you some aspirins.  Keep on going!

OK, here's a weird one for the powers that be... go take a look at the page that allows you to choose between this forum and the Trackside Guides forum.  For me it currently lists the latest post for the Trackside Guide as being submitted by Nanaimo73 on the Milwaukee Road Mainline thread sometime back in 2005.Oops [oops]Confused [%-)]

When I use 'reply' with IE 7 I do not get the 'Editing Tool Bar' to set the font and color etc.  When I use Firefox I do get the 'Tool Bar'.

ALL in ALL, I'm reasonable satisfied with the new set up.

Fresh new look,  Some of the idiosyncracies of the old forum are gone, the web cam now works for me,...and really long posts now get their own dedicated scroll bar, which is cool, but I'll bet that functionality is somehow to blame for the "grey box" syndrome I experienced on the one thread mentioned earlier.

Other than that, I'd say my only gripe is that when trying to highlight text and copy it to my clipboard, for some reason the right click menu no longer works unless I am in "edit" or "compose" modes for that particular post. If I want to copy text from one post for use in another,  I have to lumber up to my browsers "edit" menu and select the copy and paste functions from up there, or place both posts in "reply". mode. This latter option sure is awkward

Big surprise because copy and paste are available as options in the right click menu full time, elsewhere, just as it always has been, but no longer from here, since the change.

If that is 'fixable', (Bergie) fixing it sure would be appreciated from here.

(edited to reflect new findings about the "copy" function's behavior.)

AntiGates, Thanks for your help with this. I get nothing under
the "message" line but the blank box to type in a message no
matter what I do. No font options, no smiley options, and no
panel that your red arrow points to. No Nothing. I appreciate
the effort you are making to help me out. I'm not very impressed with the new forum just yet...

AntiGates, Chuck and I, along with many others i suspect, dont have ANY options to post. All we get is a box to type in, the subject line, and the post button. NOTHING!!!!! Bergie, this forum doesnt like to do the same for every user..........

Chuck, try this:

Select "quote" instead of "reply" on the right hand side of this message's header

It should bring up a window similar to the following:

The red arrow in the above drawing points directly to the 'globe and chain' link making control button.

You should be able to find one in yours too, but be sure to select 'quote' not "reply"
the tool bar is only shown if you select 'quote' (don't ask me why. that makes no sense at all, but that is the way it is)

OK?  lemme know

I would like to see the Thread Page values

<BLOCKQUOTE><table class="quoteOuterTable"><tr><td class="quoteTable"><table width="100%"><tr><td width="100%" valign="top" class="txt4"> Page 1 of 616 (15,381 items) 1 2 3 4 5 > ... Last » </td></tr></table></td></tr></table></BLOCKQUOTE>

At the top of each page, as well as the bottom.

Additionally....when posts are diplayed in 'PREVIEW'.....they should display the same way in the forum.....this one is not displaying correctly in this forum with all the garbage surrounding my quoted element.

Never too old to have a happy childhood!

The red links in the old forum stand out better than the dark blue ones now. The old links could be underlined to make them stand out more and remain that way. New links can't be underlined.

When using a link from the old forum on this forum, you remain on this forum and on the link, and could just exit the link when done. New links when used take you off of the forum so you have to back up back onto the forum.

It would be easier to do things if you could copy while in the post/edit/quote box.

Exactly!! If someone thinks a post needs to be manipulated to the top, let them go on record each time they make that little effort, instead of their little hidey "add a period-subtract a period" gamez

2-A member search like the old forum would be better.

3- An advanced search for older threads is needed.

4- FAQ should describe how to do things.

5-The banner across the top takes too long to download to be on every page.

I agree 110% ( computers+me=Dunce [D)])  I'm still dealing with the fact that the pictures of the smilies are gone.

I have to agree also, and would add:

6.) Not all of us are as computer literate, and the FAQ is

really better if written at a level that can be

understood by those of us who are not quite as

knowledgeable as the computer dudes [or dudettes]

that have upgraded the Forum we also enjoy.

7.)  And also, please address the issue we have with adding

links to posts. Simple "how to" instructions, Please!

8.)  Absolutely! What Naniamo73 said:

" The Enter key should not double space."

My My 2 cents [2c]
